Don't be shellfish...Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+

Anyone stay up to watch some of the Geminid meteor shower start up last night?  I love astronomy.  And it’s not really that different from fantasy.  You use math and all sorts of techy stats like Win Shares or True Shooting Percentage or Gravitational Microlensing to find far off worlds and far off fantasy production.  Then if you’re lucky enough, like having the reigns at the greatest fantasy hub known to man, you get to name your own planets!  Of course astronomers find so many exoplanets these days that H2894B is the best they got for creative nomenclature.  I got Goromotaros!  Rainbow Lines!  And LaMarcus Aldridge fit the bill of them all, with a redonkulous 31/25/2/2/2 slash last night.  He shot 12-22 and is playing like a MVP.  I ranked him too low.  I ranked him like a worthless Neptune when he is really a Jupiter.  According to Basketball Monster, he’s your #7 overall player.  And his only real negative is he doesn’t shoot threes – which is what ThrAGNOFs are for!  I also thought the Blazers weren’t going to be a gas giant out there.  Maybe a little white dwarf.  But they’re going off and my ridiculous conception that LA could be traded if this year didn’t work looks horrible now.  I’ll admit stupidity there, but the Blazers are virtually the same team.  And now it’s clicking.  There’s planetary alignment.  So when you’re done watching basketball, bundle up, grab some adult beverages and head out to watch the shooting stars late tonight.  It helps ease the worldly constraints of stress and fantasy disappointments – at least it does for me – and helps you just think bigger… Here’s what else I saw last night:

Brook Lopez – Looked like a giraffe had just sprained his ankle and was wandering to the water hole.  Man he looked funky.  But he was able to come back into the game, albeit briefly, before getting sent on a safari.  He is traveling for tonight’s game, but I think he sits.

Chris Paul – Oddest stat of the night.  Only 2 assists?!?!?!  What in the wide world of sports?!?!?  Still put up 20 points, but man, a Wichita State there.

Blake Griffin – If you zone out during free throws, like I tend to do, you woulda forgot Blake was in this game.  I mean, can you blame him with all that youthful defensive pressure from Paul Pierce, Andray Blatche and Kevin Garnett!  Clippers were just lost on this second game of a back-to-back.  Bad call thinking the Clips would win big here.  The Beal Deal had this one.  Luckily he imparted his infallible knowledge to me via lottery numbers, but if anything Lost-ish happens I’m comin’ after ya!

Andray Blatche – Got really hot in the third quarter.  21/9/3 on 7-11 shooting.  No BroLo will only help Blatche YOLO.  Worth a very short-term pickup… yo…

Paul Pierce – Looked like Michael Jackson with a black mitten on one hand.  Was it a Kitten Mitten?!?!  10/7/5 and looked decent in just over 26 mins.  I mean, cats have 9 lives, Pierce is probably toward the end of those in his NBA career, but I expect minutes to get ramped up in 2014 and he use whatever lives he was left.

Robin Lopez – Decided he could rebound.  I don’t do much of any “real” NBA reading, so I don’t know if this has been talked about much, but he’s been a real X-Factor for this team turning around.  Put in an awkward Sideshow Bob, and just when you think you’re about to get decapitated by a pseudo-dreadlock poking out, zoom!  Damian Lillard is past ya!  RoLo for 16/10 last night has him with double-doubles in 7 of the past 9 and he’s scored 8+ in 12 straight games.  Has at least one block in the past six games, averaging almost 2 per in that span.  Yeah, I shoulda put more stock in him, Slim had this one right.  All hail Slim!

Damian Lillard – Shot like Gordon Hayward.  Threw up labradoodles!  I need a refresher, who said labradoodles was a good safe word?  Clyde?  Uh oh, now it sounds like me and Clyde are dating.  We’re only casual OK?!  D-Lill for 1-10 8/6 on a night where I pleaded with Slim to trade for him.  But we made a different deal work.  A trade in the REL went through, rejoice!

Dwight Howard – Abused RoLo, but hey, the Blazers won and both were winners in fantasy.  Dwight for 32/17/1/2/3 just wasn’t as good as LaMarcus, but he gave it a run.  Dwight shooting 14-22 and 4-6 FT is delicious as well.  But he took a three point shot in this game?!  He’s actually 0-2 now on the year.  How did that happen?!  Let’s focus on about 10 feet closer in at the FT line, OK buddy?!  Must’ve been a shot clock count down or Howard was just plain lost…

Patrick Beverley – Woooooo!  I feel like one night is a woooo and the next night is an awwwww.  9/11/2/3/1 but shot a paltry 3-10.

Jeremy Lin – Returned, and his main function was lighting a fire under PBev.  15 minutes for 5/2/2.  Getting eased in.  As Chubbs would say, “It’s all in the hips, yeah!  It’s all the hips!  Just easing the tension baby!”

Kyle Lowry – In trading talks with the Knicks for Raymond Felton.  Swap one injury prone PG for another.  Seems asinine.

Steven Adams – They grow em healthy in New Zealand!  Apparently walking fine and is questionable today.  Don’t want him to miss any PT because I want him starting!  It’s no fun ignoring Kendrick Perkins every game…

Steve Blake – Ugh.  Out at least 6 weeks with a pitcher’s injury.  At least he’s stashed a bunch of dimebags to pass the time!  Sounds like the same thing that Matt Harvey got, except Blake isn’t getting a TJ.  Which just thinking of that makes me sad.  I love me some Matt Harvey… Anyway, droppable in all leagues making Jordan Farmar and Steve Nash relevant in deeper leagues as they near comebacks.

Ty Lawson – Looks like he’ll be back tonight.  Lawson owners go crazy.

Rudy Gay – Debut alert!  Should be starting for the Kings tonight.  Nothing in Sacramento has been this exciting since Vlade Divac learned about the discovery of razors…

Tobias Harris – Might be back tonight.  A lot of guys returning to the floor.  I scurred though.  Scurrrrrrrred!  I don’t like any of the Magic F situation right now.

Ed Davis – Another guy returning.  I still think Jon Leuer is the guy you want of the two and Leuer still gets upper 20s in minutes.  He’s just a better all-around guy.  Which was my selling point to the ladies… Because, let’s face it, it’s tough to pick up chicks in a He Hate Me jersey…

Next games:  I’ve got Yahoo highlights for NYK @ BOS then CHI @ MIL.  Both retribution games from recent bad losses.  The Knicks got blown out by the Cs, and the Bulls just plain losing to the Bucks in Chicago is embarrassing enough!  I hope you all enjoy the weekend and win your fantasy matchups!  And hope clear weather gets you to see some major shooting stars action.  See you next Monday!

Alright JB. I got one for you.

Brandon Knight just hit the waivers and its a big deal to me. I’m trying to figure out if he is a great pickup for my team. I know you were high on him in the beginning of the season, but reading through some comments and such I’m not sure on how you feel.

    Details on my team:

I punt turnovers and field goal percentage. I win points EVERY week. So far so good as I’m in first place.

I don’t necessarily show you my squad as I’m not concerned a out who to add or stop. Only thinking here about wether you see him as a good fit on a team punting these categories. He turns the ball over like a maniac and shoot like Hayward but that doesn’t hurt my team. I loose those categories every week by miles.

What do you think about him fitting into that kinda squad? If I’m punting turnovers and ff percentage I feel like his rank shoots up dramatically. Have I been smoking too much nug? Talk to me JB.

    Players I’d drop for him.
    Reggie Jackson
    Andray Blatche

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Rudy: you are smoking the enoightenment nug, those are the only two things against Knight! Losing Blatche for him as I don’t see Blatche doing much in the second half, at least not what he’s shown thus far

  2. Clyde Prompto says:
    (link)

Haha yeah, “labradoodle” started out as my safe word and then somehow evolved into a name for terrible jumpshots. The mind goes to dark places while you’re watching Bulls/Knicks.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Clyde Prompto: Oh man, I’ve got Bulls Knicks Celtics Bucks as the two games tonight, there’s a good chance the NBA rules committee meets and debates making the rim wider… Need to add labradoodle into the glossary and wanted to get ya in there right!

      • Clyde Prompto says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: WOAH that is a brutal lineup. Sweet I made it into the Razzball Glossary! I knew that degree would pay off at some point.

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Clyde Prompto: Haha, I’ll print you off the page your on and frame it for your office :)

  3. Jake Van Zuiden says:
    (link)

Hey JB where would you rank DMC and Dwight the ROS for my league? I know in Cousins’ past he’s been known for his bad temper, but so far so good. He’s putting up great numbers and has the highest usage rate out if anyone in the nba. Do you think he can stay cool all year and not do something dumb? Also Dwight’s been an animal lately and I’m trying to make a move for him, but if I package DMC and let’s say Gortat for him is that too much?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Jake Van Zuiden: Nah I don’t think so if you can brunt the FT% issues. I like it, Cousins to take a few less shots with Gay too you’d figure

  4. Bargnani aka WetNoodle says:
    (link)

    Hey JB,
I was looking to up my rebounding and blocks game so I dropped d.green and was able to pick up a.johnson.

Now if I could swing it, I’m looking for a trade partner to take on G.Monroe for a scrub and a mid round draft pick for my keeper league then dropping that scrub for a pick up of R.Lopez.

Do you think there will be a huge reduction in my cats between Rolo and Monroe swap?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Bargnani aka WetNoodle: Maybe not huge but I really like Monroe. Kinda depends on how good a pick that draft will be after the keepers

  5. Tsilaeri says:
    (link)

    Finally settled the trade
    I’m getting Deron + AlJeff+Josh Smith, giving him Westbrook+DeRoz+PBev
Looks sick to me, just hoping for Deron’s health RoS.

Thanks for the post & trade help JB.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Tsilaeri: Yeah man that looks awesome. You lose probably the best player but get two front line bigs for mid-range scorer and a waiver wire in-and-out. Love it

  6. Bon says:
    (link)

    so would u rather keep:
    andray blatche
    jon leur
    kosta koufus

Another question is, what is al jefferson worth? i drafted him second but he isn’t putting out numbers like he used to =\

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Bon: Depends on time range, right now Blatche and see where it goes. I think he’s still gonna be an end 3rd round value which you can’t really get in trade value most likely so I’d hold unfortunately… :(

  7. The return of Jordan Hill tonight. Set to start – part dos. I’m excited… buyer beware.

    https://twitter.com/mcten/status/411539177763643393

If you are a Laker fan, you should be elated with this line-up. This could be very interesting. Thrilled to see how Kobe runs point. Ha; talk about oxymorons. If nothing else, should be enjoyable to watch.

    • Sio says:
      (link)

@EL Burro: i’m betting he’ll start out passing but as his teammates start missing shots he’ll go all “my ball!” and start jacking up fade away 3s! hahaha! can’t teach an old kobe to pass.

      • @Sio:

We should play “guess Kobe Bryant, the starting PG” offensive line tonight? Winner (or closest to it) gets a BIG shout out in the weekend update? JB – sound fair?

        My guess:
        28-30 min, 17 points, 7 assists, 4 boards, 1 steal, 1 3pm… In a LOSS

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

          @El Burro: Haha sure thing man! 31 mins 22 pts 9 asts 4 boards (I copied) 2 stls 2 3s. Also a loss

          • Slim

            Slim says:
            (link)

@JB Gilpin: Even if this isn’t Price is Right rules… 22 min, 12 Pts, 3 Reb, 4 Ast, 5 TOs. 0 Stl/Blk/3s. Lakers lose by 25. Kobe doesn’t get off the bench in the 4th quarter. Hmm… That sounds slightly pessimistic. He’ll hit a 3. Score 13. OK I feel better.

            • JB Gilpin

              JB Gilpin says:
              (link)

              @Slim: Sanguine Slim!

              • @JB Gilpin:

                Slim’s is more fun.

I’ll throw in 1 technical, 6 TO and 4 personal fouls just cause.

                • JB Gilpin

                  JB Gilpin says:
                  (link)

@EL Burro: Haha well only one foul but topped your TOs! Doesn’t look like he’ll be back, my Asts won though!

                  • Sio says:
                    (link)

@JB Gilpin: tsk! i missed making my guess… wouldn’t have mattered anyway. i was way off! kudos to el burro for almost nailing the TOs!

                    • @Sio:

                      4 points, 13 assists, , 2 steals, 1 rebound, 0 3pm, 0 blocks, and 7 TO!

                      gross.

                      Pablo Prigioni > Kobe Bryant ? ; )

  8. MOpo says:
    (link)

FYI- Dwight threw the ball cross court just before halftime for his 3pt miss.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@MOpo: Ahhhh see I didn’t see that – awesome! Figured it was something ridiculous, was just a fun thing to add in there from his stat line

  9. TR says:
    (link)

I just made this trade and am curious what others think about it.

I give up Lebron, Westbrook, Oladipo, and Jimmy Butler
    for
Kevin Love, Paul George, and Ricky Rubio

I think I won it because I rounded out my team but I also traded away the best player in [real] basketball.

    • TR says:
      (link)

@TR: also, who do I pick up?

I narrowed it down to Nick Young, Derrick Williams, Greivis Vasquez (if Lowry is traded), or Ben McLemore

      • matt says:
        (link)

@TR: This might come back to bite you, just saying

        • matt says:
          (link)

          @matt: lowery isn’t going anywhere….in real world?

          • matt says:
            (link)

@matt: sorry..I guess there’s talks of trading him for felton lol Wow! Smh

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@TR: I think the deal seems like a coin flip, and if it helps your team you won. I’d get Vasquez and hope he starts in a TOR shake up

  10. matt says:
    (link)

Ugh..brandon jennings is the only reason im not hating that trade I did. LA- Please cool off, thanks

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@matt: Haha we can hope but not looking likely!

  11. Bobby says:
    (link)

What do you think of my Klay and Amir for Aldridge? Too much? Gonna try Hayward and Amir first though. Thanks buddy!

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Bobby: Not at all, I think it’d be a dream to get LA for those two. Worth the try though I’d take either!

  12. Mark says:
    (link)

Hey JB! If you had a choice between Reggie Jackson or Rodney Stuckey who would you go with and why?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Mark: I’d go Jackson because he does a little more multi-cat without looking at the numbers. Don’t trust the Pistons G rotations as much, especially if KCP develops

  13. Michael says:
    (link)

    Hey JB

With Tobias Harris being eased into the rotation it’s probably best I keep him benched over Brewer, Leuer and TJones right?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Michael: Yeah I think so, at least for tonight

  14. The Beal Deal says:
    (link)

Shout out! What do you think of Damien Lillard for Kobe? I am leaning towards holding Lillard but it’s tempting.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@The Beal Deal: Yessir! I’d hold Lillard too, tough with him coming off such a bad game though…

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@The Beal Deal: Please don’t. At this point can’t we just say Lillard was Beverley’d. It happens to the best of em. After Lillard had a 1-15 game earlier in the year he came back the next night and scored 25 with 5 3’s. He gets Philly tomorrow night.

  15. Brent

    The Fantasy Dick says:
    (link)

I got offered Evan Turner for Ilyasova. I am point guard heavy, but Turner qualifies at forward. What do you think? I could use the points. My team is lacking in boards and blocks and FG%. I am also low in points but I have had injuries and I am low on Games Played right now.
    Thanks for the help

    • Jake Van Zuiden says:
      (link)

@The Fantasy Dick: No question accept it, Ersan is playing terrible while on the other hand Turner is playing out of his mind, not to mention Illyasova looks completely lost without a slasher like Monta or Jennings to give him open looks

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@The Fantasy Dick: Agree with @Jake Van Zuiden: ‘s analysis. Ersan looks awful. And I’m not even a big Turner guy and I’d take that in a heartbeat

        • Brent

          The Fantasy Dick says:
          (link)

@JB Gilpin: I accepted it. Glad to be rid of Ersan. I have Henson and I’m glad I stuck with him

  16. Brent

    The Fantasy Dick says:
    (link)

I was also offered either Nene or David West for my Brandon Knight. I have Wall, Kobe, Lawson, Westbrook, amd Isiah Thomas, so I can lose Knight.
Would you do either one of those? Which one? I need FG%, points, boards and blocks.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@The Fantasy Dick: I really like Knight, but I’d take West even though i don’t feel great about it… think he fits your needs with a lot less rick involved than Nene and his injuries

      • Brent

        The Fantasy Dick says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: I don’t have to trade knight, he can be insurance for a PG injury. I have Tobias coming back, so he could fill my forward need. Or do you think West is worth trading Knight since Knight is a bench guy on my team?

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@The Fantasy Dick: Knight just has so much friggin potential… I would hold then if you’re affording to keep him on your bench

Blatche, Lee, Butler or Korver in my UT spot tonight?

    • JB Gilpin

@Jay_0321: Ahhh sorry I missed ya who’d you go with?

  18. AJ says:
    (link)

So with Jon Leuer in the mix in Mem and Koufos looking like he is having some regression last 2 games and only 14 minutes of play today for whatever reason, would you say this is the time to drop Koufos?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@AJ: Yeah I think so in most leagues

  19. Brent

    The Fantasy Dick says:
    (link)

To piggy back on that other comment, drop Koufas for Leuer? Or for Frye?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@The Fantasy Dick: Yeah I think I would, I think Leuer has more potential ROS

  20. Jake Van Zuiden says:
    (link)

Was just offered Vucevic and Harden for my Westbrook and Cousins.. Should I accept it?

  21. Fahed says:
    (link)

Should I trade Rubio for Eric Gordon and Pau Gasol, usually I would think this is a must do trade but to be honest my team is stacked and I wouldn’t know who to drop for this 2-1 trade. I am in a 12 team 9 category league Head to head. I recently aquired Rubio by trading for Rondo, haven’t used him in my line up yet.

    My team: http://games.espn.go.com/fba/clubhouse?leagueId=4815&teamId=1&seasonId=2014

    what do you think?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Fahed: I don’t think that’s a must-do trade at all, I’d rather have Rubio. Gordon and Gasol are old and huge injury risks while Rubio is the best player.

      • fahed says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: thank you for your reply.

  22. Carlos says:

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

@Carlos: I’d keep LBJ and love IT2 I’d def hold off

  23. Brent

    The Fantasy Dick says:

Would you trade Nowitzki and Kobe for Kevin Love in a league where you needed rebounding, FG%, 3’s, points and blocks?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@The Fantasy Dick: I would I’d love having.. Love

      • Brent

        The Fantasy Dick says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: What about Dirk and Lawson (remove Kobe from trade) for Love?

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@The Fantasy Dick: Mannnnn, very close. Think it depends on team needs and depths, vacuum I think I’d narrowly take Lawson side, I really like Lawson

            The Fantasy Dick says:
            (link)

@JB Gilpin: But you’d do dirk and kobe? I guess dirk is just playing too well right now. He is top 5 numbers

  24. Ciwa says:

    Hi JB!
Vucevic-Booz-Harden was offered to me for Love-Beal.
I don’t want to sell Love, but i need an advice.
    Good fantasy weekend!

    • matt says:
      (link)

@Ciwa: Nope don’t like it Id want harden over love. But that’s me I traded LA & vucovic for Harden & felton.Guess it depends on the rest of your team and needs tho

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

@Ciwa: I’d take Harden side… Yup big weekend cheering my Panthers on!

  25. Prodders says:

MCDubs has missed a lot of time with a trivial sounding ailment. Is this going to be a recurring theme this season do you think? Would you trade him for Rubio or with a little sweetener for Bledsoe if you could? Oh and assuming Butler is now healthy and stays that way, where would you rank him in 8 cat with heavy playing time? Around 50-60? Cheers JB.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Prodders: Yeah I think it will linger, long rebuilding season for the Sixers waiting on Nerlens too. Def would take Rubio if I could. MCW and Bledsoe for Rubio is close, depends on PG depth. I’d say Butler more in the 70s because I’m worried that the toe lingers a bit. We’ll see.

  26. Shaft says:
    (link)

What do you think of Grievis Vasquez? Is it worth betting that the raptors move Lowry and he can get back to his 9 asts like his last year in New Orleans? i know the talk was moving Lowry to the Knicks with Felton coming back the other way, along with a few other pieces. Would that just be another time share for Greivis and spell doom for the rest of the season?

Would it be worth offering Lin for Vasquez straight up or would I be taking too big a risk? Thanks

    • matt says:
      (link)

      @Shaft: I wouldn’t trade lin for him

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Shaft: I don’t like betting on trades happening even though it’s likely. I don’t think Greivis gets back to Hornets glory days. Lin and Vaz seem pretty even to me, I’d prob hold

@matt: Haha, but you get three players! To your only two! Haha I like to publicly shame bad trades on the league msg board like when someone offered me lincecum for trout in baseball

@JB Gilpin: yeah only bad thing ive learned when I shame ppl is that less ppl will be willing to trade with me later on. I agree though. I can’t stand lowballers

I needed some point guard help and was overloaded with PF and C talent. So I traded John Henson for Vasquez.. Hoping Kyle Lowry is traded. And today sent Amir Johnson for George Hill.. You think I gave up to much?

@Connor: I really really like Henson. I don’t like that one. I like the Amir trade though, i think Hill is a little undervalued with the slow start.

  30. all right F football; just got eliminated in 2 leagues. on to more pressing matters – Steven Adams got dropped in my 20-teamer – should I drop Jeffrey Taylor for him? do you think he’ll crack the starting lineup anytime soon/pick up mins when healthy?

@Sheriff McRawDawg: Hah yeah I hate football too :) I think I would hold Taylor there unless you really needed the big man stats. More minutes and bigger role for Taylor most nights

      • @JB Gilpin: Nice – thanks. follow up – what about droppin taylor for Augustin? who has more long-term value? 20-teamers always make me crazy on the wire

@Sheriff McRawDawg: Still think Taylor because Hinrich will play at some point again haha

    Hey JB,

I’m having a bit of seller’s remorse. I just traded bledsoe, oladipo, howard, derrick favors for kevin love, klay thompson, and david west. Before the trade, I was lacking in 3s and I lose in FT% all the time.

I currently have (until Thursday when the trade falls through)
guards: john wall, bledsoe, oladipo, lowry, trey burke, tyreke evans, terrence ross.
big men: favors, robin lopez, jordan hill, anthony davis, valunciunas.

Hopefully I did the right thing. (Please tell me I did the right thing?!)

@kevin: :/ not in love with it. I’m not a big Klay or West fan, and while Love is the best in the deal, it took 4 real quality guys…

@JB Gilpin: i guess i got too tunnel vision to work on my 3pt towards klay and love.

Anyways, my league vetoed my trade. hahah. Usually I’d be bummed when they veto, but I’m sort of glad this time!
