…comin’ for to carry me OUT of my fantasy playoffs!  Brutal news yesterday that Kyle Lowry has to undergo surgery on his right wrist – his shooting wrist – to remove some loose bodies.  Should’ve kept those bodies in a well, like Buffalo Bill!  “It puts the lotion on the skin!”  Without an IL spot, you’re cutting him in your redraft leagues, even with the prospect he gets a couple games in right before the playoffs.  The timeline is “hopeful to return in 4-5 weeks”, which would put us in early April.  Plus he’s a shooter, and gonna have a rusty wrist.  Hah, that sounds like a sex thing…  Moving on!

In his place, it’s time for the Cojo mojo!  11/1/6/3/0 then 14/1/6/1/0 over the weekend for Cory Joseph, with only 2 combined TO, showing what kind of sexy roto-asset he could be.  But thennnnn, struggled last night – as did the Raps as a while – to knock off the Poppycockers in a 1-point win, going 6/3/4/2/0 with 2 TO.  Still got 33:30 minutes, but he’s more in the fringy starting PG class (your Brogdon, McConnell, et ceteras) than in the most-own zone.  You could say he’s in the friendzone.  Although dudes don’t really have a friendzone, it’s only chicks that apply that logic.  The friendzone is a very sexist area!  After this dunk in the 2014 Western Conference Finals (back when he was on my REL team), Cojo could have his way with me any time he wanted!

Here’s what else went down last night in fantasy basketball action:

Malcolm Brogdon Speaking of Brogdon, maybe he needs to be ranked above the friendzone!  20/3/5/1/0 with 3 treys in 31 minutes last night.  Shared a lot of court with Matthew Dellavedova in his revenge game against the Cavs.  Two straight good games for Broggy Bear, but it’s Jason Kidd, I don’t trust the role.

Michael Beasley F man, after all my good luck with REL health, my players’ knees have had injury and injury lately…  LaVine, Love, and now Beasley.  I know he’s not in the same class as those guys, but he had been playing well!  Injury looked rough – like a hyperextension – in the 2nd quarter, as he could barely put any weight on it going to the locker room.  We’ll likely know the severity today.  While Khris Middleton DNP-rested this one, with Beasley out assumedly a little while, the Bucks will still need some shooting.  I could see Mirza Teletovic playing a bit more if you wanted a spec add in the deeper leagues.  He only played 9 minutes last night and didn’t do much, but is just a thought.

Channing Frye Well, that ended quickly!  Moved to the bench and only played 14 minutes in favor of Richard Jefferson playing 30 minutes as the starter.  Now, this was probably a matchup thing since Frye can’t really guard Beasley, but the fact they’ll tinker by matchup has me thinking Frye is really a streamer-only in most leagues.

DeMar DeRozan Might score a bajillion points a game for the remainder of the season.  Especially if friggin’ Derrick Rose is guarding him at the pivotal possession of the game…

37/8/2/1/0 last night, on 13-25 shooting including the game-winner, with 10-13 FT.

Jonas Valanciunas Ughghghghghg, puke!  Just like Drew Barrymore in Santa Clartia Diet.  Actually kinda like that show…  Pretty solid 10/5/0/2/1 for JV (minus the 3 TO, but did make every basket – 4-4 FG, 2-2 FT), but in, get this, only 19 minutes again!!!!  Ahhhhhh!!!!  Raps playing Serge Ibaka at the 5 and bringing in PJ Tucker to play a super smaller line-up…  Frustration!  10ers I think JV is a cut, really do.

Poppycockers Phallic References – Big Willy Hernangomez got 33:30 and his normal, decent line, going 8/9/2/1/0 on 4-6 shooting.  Get him more rock!  Stupid Melo shooting 9-26, he can’t get shut down soon enough…  Then the backup KOQ, Kyle O’Quinn, went 4/6/4/1/3 in only 14:30.  My fantasy abacus tells me that’s a direct split of minutes!  Was hoping KOQ might get a little more run than that while Kristaps Porzingis is out (kankle), but looks like we’re still only gonna get a small KOQ.

Kevin Durant Returned from a game off with a hand bruise, only to lose his shoe!

But he’s Durant, even with a shoe in one hand, he’s a top end NBA player… 27/8/4 last night in a game the Dubs actually had to fight to win at Philly.  Doesn’t help when Steph Curry is 0-11 from 3pt land, sheesh.  Know your range!

Richaun Holmes As I said on today’s Pod, if Jahlil Okafor is sucking – and Jahlil is mad inconsistent (7 TO and 5 fouls in 17 minutes last night!) – Holmes is gonna play!  And he’s got some mad hops!

15/4/2/1/3 on 6-11 shooting with no TO.  Starting to feel like he might be in the 12er convo, now that Joel Embiid is looking like he could be shut down for the season.  I just lost my EMBIIIIIIIIID, that’s for sure!

Sergio Rodriguez – Overtook some minutes from T.J. McConnell, who picked up some early fouls.  While he should be solid moving forward, McConnell is still in my friendzone.

Dario Saric Continuing his strong play, with a 21/7/7 line and 9-10 FT.  Might be the best player on this team right now!

Avery Bradley Damn, something with the team chemistry was off last night, let’s not hope it was the long-awaited return of Avery!  6/0/0/3/0 for Avery in 15 minutes with a couple of treys.  Good to see him out there, but man the Celtics stunk up the joint.  Isaiah Thomas didn’t even score 20, snapping his streak of like 40 some odd in a row!  4-21 from the field…  Who left the window open, it’s drafty in here!

Taurean Prince 30 minutes off the bench for 8/12/3/2/1.  Even after they dumped Kyle Korver, the Hawks have shown no interest in giving continuity to any of their wings.  Friggin’ bringing Tim Hardaway Jr. off the bench now?!  I’m kinda souring on them all.

Josh Richardson As I said a few times in the comments over the past few weeks, I worried how much run he’d get since the Heat have been winning without him.  After 13 then 14 minutes over the weekend, only 8 last night.  He’s still got upside if you can stash in deeper leagues, but Dion Waiters has completely taken that role.

Seth Curry I don’t want to take all the credit – not like he has a hereditary connection to good basketball – but I think I motivated him throughout this season to be what he is now.  29/1/3 with 5 treys last night.  A little ThrAGNOFfy still, but you’re owning him.  Deron Williams getting the ax is helping a ton.

Nerlens Noel Only 25 minutes last night, which is kinda a bummer.  The Mavs seem intent on playing smaller, and not sharing Dirk Nowitzki and Noel on the court together too much.  6/6/1/1/1 for Noel with no TO and 3-3 shooting is still nice though.

Monta Ellis – Man, he looked left for dead, but 12/7/8 last night and playing 30ish MPG again.  Sure he had 6 TO, and he’s more a streamer in 12ers, but I got a very fortunate REL asset here for a low value, so I got the bias-colored glasses!

Thaddeus Young Gotta think the wrist is still bothering him a bit, only getting 23 minutes of 8/5/1/1/0 and missing both his FTs.  Be tough to leave, like, R Holmes out there in a shallower league and needing some stats now.

Lou Williams Death, taxes, and you can count on Sweet Lou for some scoring!  James Harden was 5-17, Trevor Ariza was 2-10, Eric Gordon was 3-11…  But Sweet Lou kept it close!  8-15 FG (5-10 3PTM 7-8 FT) for 28/3/1/1/1.  I didn’t think he’d maintain value, but he’s made 14 treys in his 3 Rockets games, and making high-volume FT.  His calling card!

Gorgui Dieng Man, I dunno what is going on with the Dieng Train.  Only 20 minutes last night, shot 0-8 from the field, and had an uncharacteristic 2 TO for that low of run.  Plus we saw 35 minutes outta nowhere for Nemanja Bjelica, going 10/12/2/2/0 with no TO and 2 treys.  He still only shot 4-15 though, so not like he caught fire…  While the Kings did go small, it’s still annoying.  I’ve seen comments asking if Dieng should be dropped, but I would hold.  Typically the minutes have still been there, steals and rebounds are still there, he just regressed on a per-minutes basis which is saddening… Choo, choooo, wahhhhh, WAHHHHHH!

Willie Cauley-Stein Not a great game, but KAT is a tough matchup.  14/6/5/1/1, but 4 TO and 4-8 FT.  That said, by far led the Kings in minutes with 34, and he’s virtually the focal point for their offense.  Almost every play started with a pick-and-roll/high screen from him, so I’m still mad bullish on his upside ROS.

Tyreke Evans Came off the bench as Joerger went with the Ty Lawson/Darren Collison combo guards.  Really all of these assets are blah to me right now.  Evans was “fine” for 13/5/2/1/1, Lawson got 9 dimes, Colly was 10/2/2 with no TO, but it’s all so meh for me in 10/12ers.

I hope everyone got their week 18 off to a great start, and getting pumped for the fantasy playoffs!  Shoot your thoughts in the comments, and happy second half, Razzball Nation!

In a 12 team 9 cat h2h daily 4 moves no ir. .. would you drop Josh riChardon or mason plum for zubac ? Holmes is gone 🙁 not much for big out there. I’m battling for 8th. Thx for the help !! Oh also thoughts on courtney lee , does he keep getting run light last night with jennings gone cuz I could drop those two above for these two. Thx again ..

@#flytheW: Yeah definitely giving up on JRich right now, and adding Zubac. Hah funny you brought Lee, I almost wrote a blurb on him, but passed. Nah, I don’t see them playing him 40 mins much, just kinda how that game went. And he needs crazy minutes to be OK

Advice from this website (as well as Westy and Kemba as relatively low-cost carryovers) has me in first place, but playoffs will be tight. I’m looking to fine-tune my bench…12 team H2H 9 cat league, my build is to punt TO/FG%, dominate points/assists/3s, and hope to pick off three of boards, blocks, steals, and FT% each week.

    My “always Starters”
G: Westbrook, Beal, Kemba, Schroder (when he makes the bus), Smart
    F: ADavis, Crowder, Waiters
    C: Marc Gasol, W Hernangomez

    Bench/spot start
    Chandler
    Valaciunas
    Harkless
    Tobias Harris
    Derek Rose
    Cameron Payne (thank you)

With “loss” of Valaciunas, I’m feeling weak on boards/blocks, and would like to augment steals.
Because Chandler is still in my “injury” slot, I need to drop two to pick up one.

Available guys I’m considering are Alan Williams, Richaun, Mirotic, Chriss, Dedmon, MKG (ugh) in that order. Somehow Jarmeer and CoJo are available…Richaun was picked up smartly by the Embiid owner this morning.

My inclination is to drop Tobias and Payne (!) for AWilliams…or would you go Mirotic or Chriss? Or am I undervaluing Dedmon and MKG?

Separately, would you drop Derek Rose for CoJo or Jarmeer? Knicks have a nice playoff schedule.

    • DC Tom says:
      (link)

@DC Tom: Another pick-up option for me is Iguodala for steals/board boost. I can stand to lose the points in his slot. Do you think he might get extra run the last two weeks of the season during fantasy playoffs, as Warriors sit regulars?

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@DC Tom: Glad we helped man, really appreciate that! Hah my REL team with Westbrook is kinda the same idea! Punt FG% and TO haha. Nah don’t think you’re undervaluing Dedmon and MKG, I like the others more. Hahaha your note on Schroder. Ummm, tough to leave Jameer out there… I’m not huge non Harkless either compared to options. Kinda passing on Payne too seeing the list. Prob not taking Iggy. So for me, I would probably lose Payne, Hark, JV, activate Wilson, and prob adding… Miro and Nelson?? It’s so close with those two and Williams and Chriss….

        • DC Tom says:
          (link)

@JB Gilpin: Thanks JB! I will go with Miro and Nelson but keep an eagle eye on Williams.

You’d keep Tobias over Harkless right now? Very, very similar lines.

@DC Tom: Sounds like a plan! yeahhhhh, I would keep Tobias, he should be better and score a little more

  5. Not Your Average Joe says:
    (link)

Yo JB! It’s time for advanced fantasy balling! Per yesterday’s advice, I’ve put in a waiver claim to drop Lowry for A.Gordon. We’re in week 18 and playoffs start in week 20. I’ll know by tomorrow if that comes through. I’m currently in third place somewhat comfortably but without Lowry, I doubt that I can either improve and end up 2nd (and get a bye for first round playoffs), let alone win the title, absent other teams having their own injuries. It’s possible, but it’s also a tough road. Lowry was my best player (because I won last year so this year I drafted 12th).

So here’s my question: do I still try and give a title run a go, based on what I have? Or do I go into sell mode and try to flip some key players for higher picks?

    12-team, h2h, 9-cat league
Team: Conley, McConnell, TyJo, Beal, Waiters, Batum, Markieff, A.Gordon*, Millsap, Zingis, Gobert. (This assumes my bid on A.Gordon is successful)

Zingis I will keep for one more year at an 8th or 9th round price.
Markieff is a possible keeper at a 9th round price
McConnell, TyJo, Waiters are all possible keepers at an 11th round price.

I figure Gobert, Millsap, Conley, and Beal – in that order – are all fantastic trade pieces. None are a value keeper in our league.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Not Your Average Joe: Advanced it is! Damn, yeah the Lowry thing is just really rough. I think you always still go for the title, especially in H2H, where anything can happen in a week. I think I’d try to hold your bigs, but I’d be OK shopping Beal, i think his 3s you have decently covered, and maybe you try to fix the dimes there

  6. Michael says:

    • JB Gilpin

@Michael: Solid upside ROS< would add in most 12ers, 10ers.... Eh might be kinda in range but close, maybe only adding to teams needing bigs.

If not caring about offensive stats besides assists, Brogdon, Yogi or Iguadala. I would think Yogi, Broggy, then Iggy, but looking at Iggys stats across the board, his may be strongest. I guess I’m just worried about his role compared to the other two.

    Hi JB!

    Dinasty/12er/roto/11cat

    Dieng + Eric Gordon
    x
    Horford

I loose confident in Dieng. His ceiling isn´t too much high and is not a strech 4. Few minuts in to many games. Inconsistent is not coming. It´s here!!! hahaha
And Gordon takes a big hit with Lou. And both have contract with HOU for the nest year, so there is no reason for see something different than theese firsts games.

    Thanks

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Toni Vidal: yeah, kinda thinking the Wolves might try to trade him for a stretch 4 as well. I still like Dieng though, especially in roto, that said would definitely do that deal 🙂

With Joseph gone, who is the best PG ROS? 11er roto.

    Collison, Brogdon, Reggie, or Payton?

After listening to your last podcast, you are obviously low on Collison, but which one of the other three would you recommend?

in 12 h2h daily 9 cat no TO 4 moves no IR league my team is in 2 cats from 8th in 9th place with 3 teams battling for 7 n 8th spot. My team sucks at offense… points, FG made, 3’s are iffy more shitty than not. I pretty much only can win at small ball and %’s so keeping that in mind here is my team

G— Schrodder, McConnell, Gary Harris, Tyler Johnson,
Forward— Anthony davis, draymand , horford, Favors, KOQ, Plummlee
    Center— ROLO, Zubac, Nurkic

I have 2 moves left this week. I picked up Zubac today and KOQ yesterday would you grab Cody Zeller soon or Yogi or andre roberson today cuz he still has 4 games left and drop Plumlee although he is playing too. I was thinking about yogi or andre because my only chance is to solidify ast. steals, Blocks, FT % , FG%, Even with Friggin * damn ppl that can play Center I still can’t rebound worth the shit. Thx for the help and suggestions as always JB !! Cheers !!!

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Miracle on 34th street: Hmmmmm, yeah lots to consider. I think I would indeed go Roberson to solidify the stats you’re chasing. He hurts the %s a little, but should be pretty low volume. I duno if Zeller gets enough mins to have a good impact and Yogi will hurt FG% too. Yogi is close though, if AST seem a little closer than the rest, I might go him

3game weeks for rd 2: SAC, HOU, UTA, TOR — That’s 6 players from my team

I’m eyeing Chriss, Alan Williams and Richaun Holmes for their 4game playoff sched final 2 weeks.

Among my 3game week guys, I have a feeling it’s the SACtown peeps Tyreke and WCS who I can let go.. But should I make the move?

    Razzup, JB?!
Bye, bye, Lowry, gonna miss you big time!
Anyhow, my current roster (6 team league, standard 9cat H2H):
    Kemba, Holiday, Lin, McConnell, Dragic
Kawhi, Seth, Matthews, Lord Cov, Ariza, Crowder, Batum, Bradley, T. Harris, W. Chandler
Dieng, Millsap, M. Turner, Noel, W. Hernangomez, Pau, Nurk

Since I’ve lost Lowry, I don’t plan to drop any of my PGs (c’mon Lin, you can handle big mins in the POs), unless it’s for another PG. I know you’re not very bullish on McConnell, but I like his AST, especially with Lowry out.

My first drop candidate is W. Chandler, and might consider dropping Tobias and Gorgui (poor PO sched) in some scenarios, depending on the pickup opportunities.

That said, there are some interesting FAs available, including WCS (dropped by a hasty owner after the 2pt dud), Capela, Holmes, KOQ, Brogdon, Iggy, T. Johnson, Tyreke, M. Barnes, Len, Kanter, Yogi, MKG.

My plan would likely be to lose W. Chandler for WCS. Guess you agree?
Any more swaps you would do?
Got 2 more moves available this week, so I don’t want to rush too much, but neither would like to miss on a nice pickup opportunity.
Thanks, respect and regards from Belgrade!

Payton available as well, because I dropped him a week ago, could not stand his volatility anymore. I know you like him, but the numbers are just not there. I did consider losing McConnell for him, but I still like TJ’s steady contribution in AST and STL better. Maybe take Payton for Lin and keep an eye on Jeremy’s progress and minute restriction?
Thanks, sorry for the long post.

@Nukna: Razzup man?! I know, brutal injury, and now KD last night! What is going on in the NBA?!?!?! Yeah mcConnell is kinda a need for you now with Lwory’s dimes gone. Man, tough to drop Wilson Chandler, he’s still playing really well. I think Lin would be my first drop, so yeah I would add Elfrid. But man, lots of good options available! Capela and WCS should not really be avail, but I like your guys better. No worries, comment as long as you want any time!

@Tyler: Holmes just fits those needs to be dominant in so well… I think I would indeed lose Miro for him for your build

Just a couple of questions regarding next season’s draft. Would you consider inserting Nikola Jokic in the top 10, and how about taking Myles Turner as early as 2nd round? This is a 14ers bud. Thanks bud!

@Dante Green: Nah, lack of D stats for Jokic and high TO will keep him out of the top 10. Turner maybe mid to last 2nd round…? Mid 2nd round for a 14er feels right. Any time man!

        @JB Gilpin:

        Hah. Yea, that’s about right.

I got some good news for you bud, I’m currently battling the #2 team, and I’m leading right now. Lol 5 cats are close (Ast, TO, Pts, Stl, FG), I’m ahead in 4. It could change in a matter of days though but I’m hoping I could get all 5 at the end of the week. I’m well ahead in Blk (11-3), Reb (123-74), and 3PM (26-17). I kinda feel like I got this categories in the bag, I mean even with Willy H missing another game I don’t think he has enough bigs to get close in the reb cat. Regarding blocks, his only reliable center is Marc Gasol and the other bigs are Olynyk and Mason Plum so I don’t believe he could snatch and win the block cat. I hope I could keep him away in the 3PM cat though, he has Lillard, Kyrie and Waiters. Waiters is in danger of missing the game tomorrow, I hope he does. But I’ve got a few shooters myself in Russell, McCollum, Crowder, and Hayward so I guess I shouldn’t be all too worried. If I win my match this week I’m pretty much making the playoffs bud.

@Dante Green: Hell yeah man, sounds like you’re gonna make it! Yeah I wouldn’t be too worried at all, glad you’re making a run this yr my man!

Drop WCS for Alan Williams or Chriss? PHO sched just fits better than SAC.

@Tyler: PHO sched fits my team better with the 4-4 sched and games on off days

@Tyler: Sure, yeah i might take flier on Big Sauce given you get more games outta him in the playoffs. Chriss is close too, depends on rebound need, if that’s not a focus cat, might go Chriss. Although you can make the decision during tonights game and see
