Merry Christmas Razzball Nation!  I hope everyone is looking forward to a great holiday.  What have you asked for for Christmas?  A ridiculous stroke of luck to get you a Fantasy Football championship tonight?  A Christmas Day where three of your guys have triple doubles?  Mine is hoping that no more injuries roll through the NBA, at least with questionable return dates.  Hey, at least Brook Lopez has a certain return date.  October 2014.  Huge loss (I was going to say break, but um, yea) for fantasy owners with a broken foot.  Here’s what I said in my ranks with him at 50, lower than most other places: “Love his game, had him top-20 in May.  Foot injury and big trade limits #s.”  That’s me quoting me!  Ok, ok, so I get a ton wrong and you can’t project injuries (which I didn’t really, gotta love vagueness!), but I avoided Lopez everywhere so I am not suffering a stocking full of coal like BroLo owners.  BroLo’s stocking is actually full of a swollen foot, but you get the idea.  Andray Blatche becomes a must-own with the boost in minutes, and was already at double-digits and 19:40 plus of playing time in 15 of 17 games before Friday night’s dud when BroLo got hurt.  I see him grabbing 7 to 8 boards with decent %s – along with his scoring – for a bottom end guy on rosters with a tad of upside.  Here’s what else/who else got hurt over the weekend:

Jeffery Taylor – Done for the year with an Achilles tear.  Brutal stretch for Bobcats’ 3s.  Unravel the red carpet for Anthony Tolliver!  Championship!  I jest of course… Played over 25 minutes the past two games and didn’t top 3 points in either.  I bid on him in REL for a deep 20-teamer upside grab, but man, tough to be optimistic.

Kenneth Faried – The Manimal got his hoof stuck in the ground and twisted his ankle.  X-Rays were negative, but sounds like he could miss at least a game this week.  Timofey Mozgov got a little extra run on Saturday night going 15/9, so you could do worse in deeper leagues streaming a big man play.

Terrence Ross – Struggled again last night.  He was about as bad as when Ross got hot in his leather pants and couldn’t get them back on in that chick’s bathroom… Or maybe when he was in the Armadillo suit, I dunno, either way was baaaad.  2-10 for 6 points, logging under 23 minutes for the first time in the last 7 games since the Rudy Gay trade.  I still have hopes, but 10-teamers or solid 12-teamers should probably ride a hotter hand.

Patrick Beverley – Welllll, there goes the Razzball PBev love.  Punched a wall after getting hate tweets from fantasy owners and broke his hand.  Out 4-6 weeks.  While we saw Anthony Davis with a similar injury beat the identical timetable, PBev needs to handle the ball and is a scrappy defender.  I think it’ll be closer to the 6 weeks.  Jeremy Lin has come out and said he’ll play with his back spasms tonight, but very deep leaguers should keep Aaron Brooks on the radar with a brittle Lin ahead of him and increasing playing time regardless.

Marc Gasol – Reported he’ll be back in 10 to 20 days.  About a fortnight until he’s on the court.  Old school English, yo!  Be sure he’s owned in your league.

John Henson – Got scratched late on Saturday night for a DNP with a bad knee.  Considering he has no muscle to support those joints, not surprised…  Doesn’t sound like anything serious, but man, if you’re a big in Milwaukee it’s like the second half of Final Destination is after ya…  I mean, they had to start Miroslav Raduljica one game!  Rony Seikaly Broke Google!  Miroslav was decent on Saturday, albeit off the bench this time with Ekpe Udoh starting, for 14/4/1/2/0 in 22 minutes, and I’m just talking myself into liking Raduljica in the deepest of leagues plays because I had to add a C in one…

Brandan Wright – It’s an all UNC lanky Cs special!  19/6/1 with another 4 blocks in 29 minutes on Saturday night.  Multi blocks now in three straight and over 26 minutes the past two games.  No C in the Mavericks mix is really established, so Wright should continue to see nice minutes.

Jason Smith – The king of labradoodles got a bone bruise in his knee and had to stay in the kennel.  New Orleans signed some dude named Alexis Ajinca from the French Quarter, err, I mean from France to play some backup center.  In 17 minutes, went 4/11/1 with a block on Saturday night.  Smith shouldn’t miss much time, but with the Brow back, plus Greg Stiemsma still set to return at some point, all non-Brows, non-Ryan Andersons look to be non-factors on the Pelicans front line.

Raymond Felton – With Pablo Prigioni out for a long time, plus Beno Udrih in Woodson’s doghouse and getting benched Saturday, Felton is going to try and play tonight and is primed to get his role back, doughboy body willing.  I’m upping my pickup range to 14-teamers and deeper, but no way going bigger than that.

Lance Stephenson – Who had Lance in their most triple-doubles in the NBA pool?  I wonder if Vegas had odds on that…  12/10/10 last night.  Just like Alpa Chino in Tropic Thunder, I sit around camp fires dreaming of Lance too… “I said Nance!”

Danny Granger – Stranger Granger!  12/5 with a block scoring all his points on 4 treys.  Nothing more than a ThrAGNOF!

Amir Johnson – Just keeps playing fantastic since the Gay trade.  17/13 on 7-11 shooting for another dub-dub.  There’s no reason he should be, but if he’s unowned, for shame… Obviously a must-have right now.

John Salmons – I’ve never been a fan of Salmon, I usually cheer for the bear, but 14/3/2/3/0 in 31 minutes.  Now 30+ minutes in two straight and eating into Ross.  Kinda like Ross’ “faded-salmon color” shirt.  “No, I haven’t seen your pink shirt!”  But I have seen too much of Friends

Kyle Lowry – Still playing great ball despite the arrival of Greivis Vasquez.  22/7/9/4/0 last night and is a great sell high for the Raptors.  Hence, a sell-high for fantasy owners, as I doubt he’ll land into a better situation if he gets exported to a US team.  Plus all that injury history…

Kevin Love – My reaction to him is like James Earl Jones and the old version of the guy from A Clockwork Orange in that phone commercial.  “Love is totes amaze balls!”  45/19/6 in one of the best lines on the year.

Nikola Pekovic – Might be my favorite 4/5 combo in the NBA.  34/14 shooting 16-28 and his second 30+ point game in the past 3.

Rajon Rondo – News came out he might be out until February.  A big womp womp for Rondo stashers.  I didn’t pay the premium for another PG with a torn ACL after seeing the Derrick Rose debacle, so hopefully if you paid the price you’ve built around the busted pick…

James Harden – Said he wants his ankle to heal fully before getting back on the court after Saturday’s game.  I actually think this is a nice buy low window after a DNP or two.

Tony Snell – I’ve been saying for a while I was impressed with the rookie, and with no Luol Deng for a while longer with his Achilles issues, Snell racked up 40+ minutes for the second straight game for a 17/5/3 line with 5 treys.  Worth a look in deep leagues while the Bulls’ humpy dumpties get put back together again.

D.J. Augustin – Definitely in the 12-team consideration mix with another great game, going 18/5/10 and I think has won the starting PG gig even when Kirk Hinrich comes back.  Man, what a find for the Bulls…  I bet the Lakers are lamenting they didn’t grab him first.

Tyreke Evans – I was wronggggg on Evans… After what looked like another bad ankle sprain, Evans got a triple double then followed it up with a 21/6/6 line on Saturday night.  Some jumpy owners probably dropped him at some point, hell I might have… A guy I could see out there in a lot of 10-teamers that should be scooped up.

Caron Butler – I still don’t like him all that much, but came back and didn’t skip a beat for 22/11/4.  Did shoot only 8-21 including a ridiculous 2-10 from downtown.  Dem Gordon Hayward-like numbers!  I’m not touching Butler in most leagues.

Khris Middleton - A love/hate guy for me.  Tough to buy any consistency, but a 27/5/4/2/1 near-rainbow on Saturday shooting 11-15 is a tough line to ignore from a guy who is gonna log big minutes and can hit threes.  Just is a debbie downer half the time too..

Brandon Knight – My boy!  Told you guys!  After that huge 36/9/3 game, 17/14/8 then 21/4/6 and not a single, repeat, not one turnover in those two.  Huge huge stuff.  Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.  “Totes McGotes!”

Have a wonderful Holiday and enjoy all the Christmas games!  I’m back Friday, then I’ll be back for daily recaps starting Thursday January 2nd.  I’m sure there are a million other players and news items out there, but as always, I’ll be around for comments on anyone else and so will our awesome team.   Happy Holidays from the Razzball team!

Hey jb! Merry christmas! Would you do any of these trades?
    1. Pau for jsmoove
    2. Pau and hendo for jsmoove and vasquez
    3. Pau and brandan wright for parsons and mayo
    thanks!

    • matt says:
      (link)

I like #1, love parsons, hate mayo, hate drew, hate the bucks. This jb will agree on im sure.

@mUshi: Merry Christmas man! 1. Yeah I’d take Smoove 2. Ehhh, I like 1 a little better 3. Ehhh again, I think I like 1 best still. @matt: is turning into my alter-ego!

  2. Slim

    Slim says:

Your an Augustin believer!?! It really is a nice fit for him. He’s surrounded by willing passers, a defensive minded coach, and of course a bunch of injuries to the back court doesn’t hurt either. I don’t think Augustin would have been as good as he’s been in LA.

Salmons getting so many minutes is killing me. Unfortunately I don’t see that changing any time soon.

What a boring triple double from Lance. His Yahoo per game rank is 113… that feels about right. If someone will give a top 75 player for him i’d take it.

I finally released Beverley everywhere I owned him. Sigh… it was a sad goodbye. BTW Beverley is ranked 96th by Yahoo by the averages. Even with all the hate he was still a better fantasy player than Lance?! Interesting. Not a surprise though considering how many categories Beverley helps and Stephenson doesn’t.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Slim: Yeah he def would be better in LA. Believer in that he can be semi-scorer and nice source of assists in deeper/desperate 12 teamers. Yeah me either on Salmons as the 6 man. Agree on Lance, but he’s worth owning everywhere as the last guy on your roster at the least. Yeah, injury makes it a easy break up. Everyone except us hated PBev!

      • Slim

        Slim says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: I was saying I think Chicago was a better fit for Augustin than LA. No doubt D’Antoni would have told him to go out there and do whatever he wants but when he’s telling everyone on the team that it’s not too conducive for team play and everyone suffers. Where as in Chicago if DJ passes it up to Noah at the top of the key early in the possession there’s a good chance he’s going to get it back later in that possession. I think it will lead to better opportunities for DJ. And calmer play. The steals… he was never a steals guy in Charlotte but it’s not always the guy playing good defense that gets the steal. So DJ being surrounded by good defenders could very well help his steals.

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Slim: Ohhhhh I got ya. I think if the situation was right, he would have more upside with all the injuries right now in LA. But just speculation of course and more lottery pick upside. Agree on calmer play and more consistency in CHI, probably the better destination

  3. George for harden? I’m getting harden. Good trade or is harden a candidate to be rested during fantasy playoffs?

    • matt says:
      (link)

I don’t understand how this trade helps you? They negate each other’s value. Or what we would call in las vegas “push “

      • @matt:

In the championship week, harden and the rockets have 6 games. George’s pacers have four.

I’m in first place right now so I’m thinking about that time.

        • matt says:
          (link)

Lol..well you didn’t explain that at first. Im team harden all the way but the championship is still a ways away. I rather have a healthy George right now then when you know Man Beard is 100% try pulling it in a couple weeks. I like Harden more than any other player in fantasy except for his ankles right now & streaky 3 pt shooting % . Or you could try a different route, maybe a 2-1 while hes out and possibly keep George also? I like George almost as much, I think that SF is more shallow than SG, but I could be wrong.

          • @matt:

Yeah. I was thinking bout making this deal in a week or too. But in not sure if the owner will take it then. We’ll see I guess.

            • matt says:
              (link)

Try to package a 2 team deal with another guy. I’d work it. If you want someone bad enough make it happen. Unless you are in a money league then I wouldn’t suggest it. I over pay for guys I want, sometimes that’s just how it goes. At the end of the day im in free leagues, with nothing to lose. I can’t bet anything except fantasy baseball cuz I lose my ass every time I play football or nba daily games.

            • matt says:
              (link)

If I.was buying now I would be buying low cuz of the uncertainty of his ankle. I wouldn’t give a healthy George now unless I planned to overpay, cuz that’s an overpay as of right now. That’s my opinion. Hope it works out for you.

        • matt says:
          (link)

I traded LA & Vucovic to get Harden & Felton but I had 4 premier centers then made a couple moves. Yes, I overpaid but it hasn’t hurt me cuz I have one of the best frontcourts in my league now with Curry/Harden, Lebron and Z Bo with Dwight in the middle.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Derrick Yu: I think I’d hold George because Harden’s injuries could linger and knock you out of the finals should he ever get shut down late or something = more risk

  4. Frank White says:
    (link)

Hey JB… I have Marc Gasol on the bench so I’ve been using Leuer but Leuer has been falling off a bit. I need boards so do you think I should hold onto him or would you grab another big guy like Mozgof , Khris Middleton or even Tony Allen?? I know Tony Allen is a sg – sf but he’s been getting more boards then Leuer.

    • matt says:
      (link)

Middleton has been getting decent run 33 per last 2 weeks. I grabbed him in a couple 14 teamers cuz there’s nothing out there at SF. I don’t know much about leuer, I draft big heavy so I only cycle them for trades or injuries. Gasol will prob be back in 12-14 days I assume.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Frank White: I think all three guys aren’t long term solutions, so I’d play Mozgov if no Faried which looks like the case.

    • Frank White says:
      (link)

Why did you skip me..? Lol, Do you agree with Dan or something? I ask more then one person sometimes so I can get 2 opinions

      • JB Gilpin

        (link)

        @Frank White: ?? see above

        • JB Gilpin

@Frank White: Hah ok no prob!

  5. Tony says:

    20 teamer, fantasy pts league

Start HENSON or KANTER this week at center?

Both have 3 games…… I guess if I see henson sitting tonight it makes the choice easy, but say he’s a go? Weekly line ups, Boooo

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Tony: Haha yeah I am not a big weekly line-ups guy for that reason. Def Henson if he plays tonight, probably Henson either way since nothing I’ve seen makes Henson’s knee seem like anything serious.

      • Tony says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: tell me about it, 18 teamer been running for around 20 yrs now, democracy votes for weekly… barely passed, and after this years injuries, i think Daily will come back….

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Tony: Sheesh 20 years and the league changes to weekly?! Blasphemy!

  6. miles proudfoot says:
    (link)

I’ll start up the question…so Kobe has now been dropped in some leagues. I’m in H2H 10 team 9 cat league, currently in 3rd with one of the stronger teams. Drop a guy to open a spot I usually stream and sit with Kobe for awhile?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@miles proudfoot: I think in 3rd I’d probably let him stay there. When I listened to Mike & Mike the next day, their expert doctor had a bleak prognosis… But it is Kobe! Still, I’d be fine letting him stay out on the wire

  7. Ryan says:
    (link)

m in a 14 team h2h keeper league. We keep 5. Which trade do I accept or take both deals?
Im just worried I might lose in blocks.

trade al jefferson and teague for kyrie

trade favors and henson for hibbert and ryan anderson

    14 team h2h keeper

    pg damian lillard
    g martel webster
    sg james harden
    sf kevin durant
    f john henson
    pf derrek favors
    c al jefferson
    c demarcus cousins
    util channing frye
    util Jeff Teague
    bn ben mclemore
    bn Lou Williams
    bn brendan wright

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Ryan: I’d do the first one. I like Jefferson and love Teague, but even in a redraft I probably take Kyrie, and with him so young and it a keeper, like it even more. I’d probably take the second one too, after keepers Lillard/Kyrie/Durant/Harden, it’s probably Cousins over Favors anyway and you get the better guys right now. Man those top 4 keepers would be killer!

      • Ryan says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: can I still be competitive in blocks after dealing al favors and henson?

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Ryan: For sure, I mean you get a good chunk back with Hibbert and I buy Wright being a nice blocker

          • Ryan says:
            (link)

@JB Gilpin: btw I have the option of getting chandler parsons instead of anderson. Do I go after parsons or stick with ryno?

            • JB Gilpin

              JB Gilpin says:
              (link)

@Ryan: Hmmm, I think I would indeed take Parsons, but I love Parsons :)

              • Ryan says:
                (link)

@JB Gilpin: thanks but the other guy rather wants to keep parsons now. So it’s still anderson and hibbert.

                • JB Gilpin

                  JB Gilpin says:
                  (link)

@Ryan: Yeah I still like it for ya in your push for this year

  8. Hinrich Manuever says:
    (link)

Need assists… Would you do Paul Millsap for Ricky Rubio?

  9. matt says:
    (link)

    Hey Jb, would you trade
    Im getting:
    Marc Gasol
    Thad Young
    Steph Curry
    I give up
    Lebron
    Z Bo
    D. Jordan or Gortat (which do u prefer) I only own bron in this league so it’s a tuff call but im getting 2 first rounders for one. What do u think?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@matt: Nah I wouldn’t want to trade LeBron there. I think Gasol isn’t in the first round conversation as it’s still two weeks until he gets back on the court and will probably ease in.

      • matt says:
        (link)

        @JB Gilpin: ok cool

  10. moez says:

this almost feels like the lockout afterwards when all the injys started to rack up lol
    Hey man
Im debating trading my Lowery for A Jeff Teague…. I’m not sure what I should do.. Im always up for trading raptors so im debating it.. just wanted to ask you before I did it.., J.T could be a DD machine and DD is a cat in the league.. I dunno what do u think? thanks a lot and happy h-days!
    :D D:

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@moez: Haha yup definitely been rough! I def would want Teague and would be an awesome sell high. If you get it, would be an awesom Christmas present! Happy Holidays!

  11. Bren says:
    (link)

Aaron brooks is starting to get some hype…is he worth an add? Only dudes I am willing to drop for him are j butler, knight or Farmar. I had him last year on the kings and he sucked. Some insight please?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

@Bren: Ehhh, with Lin probably back tonight I think I’d hold your guys

  12. justin.g says:

Happy Holidays! With T Ross still struggling is it time to move on? Can pick up G Ant, DJ Augustin, Waiters
    Thanks!

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@justin.g: If you need some PG stats, I’d be fine grabbing DJ. If kinda need everything and not a big assists need, I’d probably hold

      • Bren says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: if Farmar were playing do you like him over DJ?

  13. Corey says:
    (link)

Who would u pick for 9 cat h2h. Farmar, Aaron brooks. Augustin? Thanks!

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Corey: Augustin of the 3. Any time!

      • Bren says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: sorry double post and it linked to the wrong comment LOL but if Farmar weren’t injured do you like him over DJ?

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Bren: Haha no prob! Mannn that’s really close, I think it’s tough and I’d take DJ just because I know he can play right now and Farmar is uncertain. I liked Augustin more heading into the year so I’d say him.

          • Corey says:
            (link)

@JB Gilpin: hmm I think I’m going to take a flier on farmar. I don’t think I can stomache augustin’s sub40% shooting and Hinrich is coming back tonight while farmar has no competition for minutes. But to each his own! :)

            • JB Gilpin

              JB Gilpin says:
              (link)

@Corey: All good points, I think it’s a coin flip. I will say I think DJ plays good minutes still, but Farmar certainly has usage upside. We’ll see how it all goes tonight, good luck with him!

  14. Happy holidays everyone! I’m holding Greivis Vásquez in anticipation he becomes the starting PG in Toronto following a Kyle Lowry trade. Terrence Jones just popped up on wavers following a week where he battled an illness. Should I drop Vásquez for Jones or hold tight?

    Thanks as always!

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@WNWDOTCOM: Happy Holidays! If you have a dire need for PG upside I’d hold, but I’d probably grab Jones especially with Greg Smith getting hurt and Asik one leg hurt and the other out the door.

      • @JB Gilpin: thanks man. I’m actually fairly loaded at PG at the moment with Wall, IT2, Ellis and Dragic all elgible. I also picked up your boy Felton because there is a league shortage haha. So I’ll make that move, which is nice since I traded Jones to get Dragic.

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@WNWDOTCOM: Whoa nice move! You got a free Dragic nice work! Agree with ya there, I’d let Greivis go.

hey, love the site. I just got offered A.Drummond for N.Vucevic in a standard cat. keeper league,
Should i take the trade or hold on to Vucevic?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@steve: Thanks man, thanks for reading! I have a long standing feud with Drummond, I think I would hold Vucevic, but I’m a little biased. Very close and both are young so it seems a coin flip/whoever you like to follow better.

      • steve says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: thanks, i was thinking the same thing, drummonds free throw% is the deciding factor

        • JB Gilpin

          (link)

          @steve: Can’t disagree with that!

Was offered Jamal Crawford, Harden & David West for David Lee, Ibaka & Ariza in a standard cat, non-keeper league. Obviously depends on who else I have but curious to know your thoughts as-is. Struggling with this one…Thanks.

@Brian: If you can handle losing two premiere big men, I like it buying Harden low as the only elite guy in the deal

And we back! Ross in sweaty leather pants was bad.. But after putting some talcum powder on it, he was in another stratosphere!! Love Christmas Armadillo too

So I recently made a big three man trade. My team looks like:
    AD
    DMC
    M Gasol
    derozen
    Afflalo
    Jrue
    B Jennings
    Henson
    Wilson
    Pierce
    Drummond
    Sullinger
    Rondo

After today’s games, I may have to decide on dropping either pierce or Wilson to take on someone in the free agency. Not desperate for any specific cat except 3s and it’s looking like Young is gonna get some serious burn in LAL this week. Knowing your love for Chandler (& Ross – super cute together), should I be dropping he or Pierce anytime soon or treat them both like permanent employees on my team? Cheers mate and happy hols to you!

@Lasandro: Haha both were great! Schwimmer gets no credit for making everyone so awkward when he is Ross. I think Wilson is a hold all year I just love him so :) Ross I think is cuttable if you needed a hot hand, not on the Chandler love level. I’d try to hold Pierce too, I think he gets better and better through the year. But that’s just me, Happy Xmas!

      • Lasandro says:
        (link)

Oh JB I forgot to ask: one of the guys I just traded for was rondo. Please tell me he’ll be at least close to a dub dub with a couple of steals when he’s back.. :s Noted on Wilson and Pierce – they’ll stay put

Meanwhile, Ross had me on stitches most of my teens and early twenties. Loved that the nerdiest in the group kept getting the hottest chick. Damn near studied paleontology because of it! Merry armadillo to you mi amigo

@Lasandro: Eeeek, I dunno man, I think close, but it also looks like February return… Haha yea Ross’ girl hauls were always really unrealistic. Def his PHD womp womp… Merry Armadillo!

    Blatche or Brandon Wright

Boards, Blocks and FG% is what I need.

    thanks

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@The Fantasy Dick: Haha, I’d take Blatche right now, Wright wins blocks, but Blatche the other 2 (maybe slightly lower FG% but higher volume). Let’s do this, Dray!

      • Brent

        The Fantasy Dick says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: I have Blatche, dropped Hill for him right before Hill got back on track..man, the carousel continues. At least Harris and Knight proved to be worth the wait (thanks for telling me to hand in there). I like Blatche a lot, but he’s like Javale to me, lots of talent, but doesn’t take advantage of it for whatever reason.

@The Fantasy Dick: Knight killed it again tonight! Looked awesome except spotty at times on D but that doesn’t matter for fantasy unless Larry Drew gets all butthurt about it… I think you’ll get pretty solid production, decent-ish game tonight

    a) my MCW for Al Jeff?
    b) my Kanter for Farmar

    thanks!

    • JB Gilpin

      @hamtime: a) yes, b) depends on needs, both fringe-ownable in 12 or 14 team

  20. Tony says:
    (link)

Background: 18 teamer, Keeper, salaries, the whole 9, and its a fantasy points league:

    Which side:

    A) Harden $54 salary averaging 66 fpts per game, guard only eligible
John Henson $9 salary averaging 49 fpts per game with our settings….F/C eligibility

    OR

    B) Batum $27 averaging 58 fpts per game, forward only
Gordon Hayward $22 salary averaging 52 fpts per game G/F elgible

Take into account Hardens recklessness, ankles/knees, future, Hensons future potential, extremely cheap salary, and the cheaper salaries of batum/hayward, harden has the ability to put up 100fpt nights which are very rare, but batum and hayward are young and put up nice numbers as well…. Henson being a $9 F/C swinger is huge, but Haywards G/F swinging eligibility is equally important. HAHA

    Even or an easy choice?

    I’m torn.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Tony: Pretty even. I’d probably take Batum Hayward side because it’s so close I’ll lean to the $20+ cheaper value. Two guys putting up points like that in 18 team is big too, and doesn’t help Drew brought Henson off the bench today for some ungodly reason, but he still got typical minutes.

What do you think about this trade? We negotiated and it’s sitting in my
Inbox but I wanted to ask you guys before sending it because I’m not so sure.

    I give up
Westbrook, Davis, Amir Johnson and Rudy Gay
    For
Lillard, Cousins, Millsap, and Derrick Favors

The goal is to be trading for 1) depth and 2) better big men because I lost lopez

1- My Cousins and Burke for Vucevic and Teage
2- My Irving and Iguodala for Lillard and Parsons
3- My Irving and Gortat for Bledsoe and Millsap

Was hoping you might have some college basketball knowledge, I have none.

Would JV go in the top 5 of this years NBA draft? In my dynasty league someone is offering me their 1st rounder for JV and their team is terrible, top 5 almost guaranteed. Should I hold JV? I keep hearing this draft class is unbelievable so I kinda wanna get in on it. I traded away my own pick which would have been top 12 at best.

    • @Matt P:

Hey Matt P – Interesting question. I watch a lot of college hoop. BTW, if there ever was a year to get into college hoops and prospects, it’s this one. This draft class is loaded and should be one of the better ones in the past decade (LeBron’s class aside). I think I would definitely want a Top 5 Dynasty pick with the likes of Jabari Parker (Duke) – F, Julius Randle (Kentucky) – F, Andrew Wiggins (Kansas) – G/F, Marcus Smart (Ok State) – G, Joel Embiid (Kentucky) – C, Aaron Gordon (Arizona) – F, Doug McDermott (Creighton) – F, all potentially entering the mix this coming year.

In terms of what you need and deciding between keeping JV or punting him for a Top 5 pick, I think it really depends on what the rest of your squad looks like and who else you want to keep (and at what price). Personally, I like JV – but I’d likely be tempted to grab one of those Big 3: Parker, Wiggy, Randle. The other thing about this class, it really depends on where these guys land and the system- so much of fantasy contribution, apart from talent, is what type of team and opportunity they end up on. Most all the NBA squads that are doing terrible (looking at you – Bucks, Sixers, Jazz, Magic) would probably froth at the mouth to grab any of those guys, but all 4 teams have young guards with upside: Bucks (Knight), Sixers (MCW), Jazz (Burke), Magic (Oladipo), so pairing them with a solid F like Wiggins, Randle or Parker makes a ton of sense, but drafting someone like Marcus Smart, probably doesn’t, however.

In my opinion, the CENTERS in this class are not getting talked about enough. There are some decent upside guys that will likely come out, but my favorite is probably the young Cameroonian kid, Joel Embiid (Kansas), followed closely by Noah Vonleh (Indiana), Mitch McGary (Michigan) and Willie Cauley Stein (Kentucky) are the 4 guys that stand out most at the Center position and could make an NBA impact right away. Again, not sure if you need a CENTER or just looking to nab a Top 5 guy — in which case, I would probably take Jabari Parker, Andrew Wiggins or Randle depending on your needs.

So, while I like JV – not sure what the hell is going on in Toronto. They should try and build around him — and give him the rock more, but as long as they have a shoot first PG and 2 ball hogs in DeRozen and Ross, it might take JV some time to get to the 18/10 type lines he is capable of. Personally, I’d rather opt for the enormous potential and upside of the above mentioned guys…

If you give a little additional color, I can elaborate on positions, projections, etc… Hope that helps.

      • @EL BURRO:

Nice reply. Couldn’t agree more with your college take. Well done.

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@Matt P: I’d take the pick as well. Since their team is terrible it should be an early pick, right? JV is a solid center and fantasy player, but no where near the elite upside of the rooks this year.@EL BURRO: is right on, just way too much upside with so much talent and situations that should be open to not take it. I personally am a huge Smart fan. I’ll be targeting him in our dynasty supplemental auction draft next year

        • @JB Gilpin:

Yeah, so much solid youth in collegiate ranks . Should make for a great 2014 fantasy draft too. Don’t sleep on Kyle Anderson either…

@Tsilaeri: I’m just not a big Mayo fan, and while I love Kawhi I think your side could get more

  26. Over the internet friends,

Happy Holidays. Finally logging in after 2 days of hellish travel to the in-laws… Hope your own holidays are filled with plenty of hoops, booze and fatty fatty fat foods. Who doesn’t like to blubber up this week? Not this guy. Full focus on hoops as fantasy football for a month or two until baseball peeks its head up from the winter slumber. This Xmas, I’m praying for D’Antoni to get shit canned with his cruel punishment towards Jordan Hill. Fuggn ‘Antoni; possibly the worst coach in the NBA not named Jason Kidd or Larry Drew x3. Fire these bums.

Time to go cook some delicious crispy bacon, light a fire and fill the old coffee mug full of tequila. Let’s get weird, razzballers – its XMAS Eve for some of us. So, here’s to that.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

@EL BURRO: Fire them all! Hate D’Antoni. Gettin so weird tonight with no hoops to keep an eye on. I think a midnight slip and slide to separate the man from the boys is where we’re headin

Happy Holidays JB and Razzball readers!

Dropped A. Burks for R. Stuckey. Good or bad move?

    • Michael says:
      (link)

@Michael: My team got rocked yesterday. Playing #1 this week and he had, Plumlee, Millsap, Leonard and Hayward last night.. Tough loss yesterday in almost all categories. Bahhumbug.

      • Michael says:
        (link)

@Michael: One more question. Could you rate these guys in order for my team? DeMarre Carroll, R. Stuckey, JJ Redick, M. Beasley.

Thinking if I should drop Stuckey for Redick as he’s targeting a 2nd week of Jan return.
Or drop Stuckey for Beasley since Beasley will see more playing time while they rest Wade/Bosh/Lebron. Also in blow out wins by the Heats. He should be able to see a lot of PT second half of the season.

        My team right now is
Curry, Wall, Lillard, DeRozan, Pek, Harris, Stuckey, Hickson, KG, R. Lopez, Hawes, J. Green.
Tried trading Lillard/Derozan/Hawes as a package deal but my league does not make any trades. If there is a trade its a Pro-Veto league.

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Michael: I’ve never oiled Stuckey, but can’t argue that move at all. Yeesh yea I’m against Hayward in a league and if the #1 team carried Plumlee this whole time for that big game, then damn that just blows… I’d probably stick with Stuckey for now, I think you’ll be able to get Redick later

  29. Corey says:

Giannis or Middleton for 9cat h2h? I dropped Giannis to get Middleton in a points league already. What should I do in my 9 cat league? I could use the rebounds and blocks of Giannis but is Middleton too good to pass up?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Corey: Still Middleton for me. Giannis has the long term upside but I think gets a shorter leash from Drew as guys get healthy since he is 19 and Drew likes to screw the pooch in his rotations. Think Middleton has earned his role based on how Drew has used him

  30. Michael says:
    (link)

Thanks for the reply. The guy that is #1 dropped D. Carroll for EI. Is he coming back soon? Also what do you think about Ben McLemore?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Michael: Ilyasova has returned to practice and “could play”. But I think it’s a limited bench role. Not the biggest McLemore fan after Rudy trade, only 5 shots last two games and not enough rock in his hands with that lineup

  31. Kevin says:

Got offered Anthony davis and Terrence Ross for my Lowry and vucevic. Would you take this trade?

    • JB Gilpin

    Demar derozan
    Wilson chandler
    Lebron james
    John Henson
    Nikola pekovic
    Andray batche
    Dirk nowitzki
    Serge ibaka

What do you think? If you think it’s a good trade who should I drop?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@CDS: Man that’s a tough one…Since I’m not a big Klay guy and you have great PG depth I’d hold

  33. Fantasy Newb says:
    (link)

I own Brandon Knight in a points league. Knowing he can’t keep up his stellar play for too long, can I sell high and get some long term value in return? Who would you trade for?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Fantasy Newb: It’s worth testing the waters, but I’m a big Knight guy, have been all along since Bucks trade. If you need a big man, maybe Marc Gasol, but I really wouldn’t be trying to sell Knight

  34. Shaft says:
    (link)

Yo JB, merry Xmas. With the news of sanders coming on Friday, time to sell high on henson before it’s too late? Obviously dependent on a lot of things, but any bigs worth targeting for him?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Shaft: Merry Christmas! I just don’t know what value Henson would command… And he should play big minutes still, worth floating some offers, maybe Marc Gasol as a buy low while still hurt, but doubt you’d get much.

  35. Corey says:

Ersan is back at practice. Should I grab him or Middleton?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

I’m trying to move Pau while he’s hot and my biggest concerns here Dynasty. I need to add FG% (from a big man) and STLs, for which MCW is a difference-maker. FG% between Jennings and MCW is a wash, but both Pek and MCW are younger than Pau and Jennings.

Which side of this would you rather have in a Dynasty league?

Rest of the team is below. Maybe I lose too many Blocks by giving Pau? Thanks!

    12-Team 9-Cat Dynasty Roto
    11 starters (2-Cs, 3-UTIL), 7 Bench

PG: Conley, Jennings, Teague, G Hill, R Jackson

    SG/SF: Harden, J Butler, A Burks, K. Middleton, T. Ross, J.R. Smith, Aminu

PF/C: A. Horford, Pau, Henson, Kanter, Mark. Morris, Der. Williams, M. Teletovic

College: Wiggins, A. Gordon, PJ Hairston (join my team in ’14-’15)
