Don't be shellfish...Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+

Yeah, I don’t think that title made any sense… But alas weather hath wreaked it’s icy cold fist of skulduggery and given me very little time for the update this morning.  Concerns over some sort of phenomenon known as “black ice” perils a return journey.  I have never heard of such things in NC!  Blame those who believe in Global Warming!  It ain’t warm at all!  Sure, sure they’re related, but related in a Woody Allen is married to his daughter sorta thing… The cold is ruining my jokes, I swear, it’s the cold!  I’ll try to get to as many things from last night as a I can, but as you probably realized by now, these are a stream-of-consciousness updates.  There’s no telling where they’ll go!  So let’s go way off the reservation and start with Rudy Gobert.  Cue the Stephen Colbert puns!  After starting with the big boys, Gobert got some D-League seasoning (we all know the French are good at cooking!) and in 8 games averaged 13.9/11.4 with an even 3 blocks a contest in only 27 minutes per.  So the Jazz called him up, and after only 16 total minutes his first two games, got some big run last night with Derrick Favors out for an 8/6/1/1/3/broke Alexey Shved‘s nose line last night.  That’s some solid aggressive play!  “Shot” 4-5 (I think all 4 were dunks) and looked really solid for a terrible Utah team.  If he can get 20 minutes per the rest of the year with an emphasis on late-season development time, he could be a sneaky source of blocks in deep leagues.  The Americone Dream!  Wait, he’s French though… Damn this cold!  Here’s what else I saw last night in fantasy hoops:

Rudy Gay - Tied his career-high going 41/8/5.  Kinda surprised he hadn’t scored more than that in his career…  Be even more a ball hog!

DeMarcus Cousins – Rainbow alert!  Only one steal away from a double rainbow going 18/11/6/3/4.  Is he a first-rounder next year?  I mean, gonna be tough to rank him much lower!

Anthony Davis – Is definitely a first-rounder if not a top-5 pick, and not to be outdone rainbowed as well for 16/6/2/2/4.

Tyreke Evans – Led the Pels in shots with 15 for a 17/3/3 line.  But got blocked 6 times?!  C’mon ‘Reke!  Not like it’s that hard to see where DMC is on D!

Nicolas Batum – Remember when I did the rankings and I said I was scared of his offense?  Another single-digit game scoring only 3 for a rainbow 3/5/2/2/2 line.  I still like Batum a lot, but I think my ranking of him outside the top-20 was correct.

Ricky Rubio – “Why does everyone hate me!?”  Well, if you can’t shoot, then NBA fans hate you… 11/5/13/5/0 and a great bounce-back game.  Looked good, got 39 minutes, the Wolves blew out the lowly Jazz twice in a row, I think Rubio is ready to make my high ranking of him not look so bad… Let’s hope anyway!  Plus might get de facto more minutes if…

Kevin Martin – … Martin misses much time.  Went for a steal and looked like he might’ve cut his pinkie on Alec Burks’ tooth or something funky.  Was bleeding really bad and had to go to the locker room.  Along with Shved’s broken nose bleeding everywhere, this game was a bloodbath!  If you see “pinkie cut” somewhere and shrug it off, it didn’t look good.  Especially if it was a break that bled that bad.  Keep him monitored and might have some rough shooting games once back.

Gordon Hayward – Finally returned from his hip injury and looked great.  10-17 (2-5 3PTM 5-6 FT) for 27/5/5/3/0.   No lingering concerns at all.

Trey Burke – Didn’t do too much and disappeared a bit.  9/2/5.  Chalking it up to rookie inconsistencies and a good buy low.

Kevin Love – Neared a triple double.  Just look at some of these assists!  I bet if it was Kevin Love late in the 49ers game, he woulda put enough juice on it to get to Michael Crabtree!  You hear that Sherman?!

Kyle O’Quinn – Is an O’Boss.  Look at this block!  15/8 with two swats.  Decent fill-in big man in even deep 12 teamers right now.

Andray Blatche – Another good game.  Slim is grinning through that beard at me.  More comprehensive analysis of our bet to come tomorrow.

Sorry again for the short post this morning, but it’s a weather-shortened 6 inning game, and we’ve a full slate that will take us into 19 innings of extras tomorrow.  Drive safe out there you east coasters and good luck tonight!

NBA league pass at NBA.com is free till the 26th. Just a heads up for anyone reading this.

I thought it was supposed to be cold this morning… It’s like 50 something out there. I’ll take a high of 62 though. Better than 95 and 95% humidity.

Didn’t want to mention Brewer this morning, huh? Understandable. I don’t want to talk about Aldridge that’s for sure. Any thoughts on flipping Aldridge for a bunch of keeper pieces in the REL? If you were selling… who would you be selling? Felton I imagine but not sure who else.

I’m glad Rubio had a good game. Hopefully that ends the buy-low offers. I saw the Kevin Martin play, that was strange. Can’t really tell what happened.

I like Gobert too. The problem I see is that I’m not sure either him, Favors, or Kanter can cover a stretch PF. That leaves 3 guys who can really only play one position, center. If one of them gets shipped out then my money would be on Kanter moving. It was nice to see Burks keep up the scoring with Hayward back. This Jefferson/Marvin starting thing has lasted much longer than I thought it should. Another month before the trade deadline… sigh…

O’Quinn seems to always play well when he gets an opportunity. He’s never given a fair chance to keep the job though. When Vuc gets back then the best… Irishman in the league will probably disappear again. I’d rather see him play over Big Baby but that’s not going to happen.

You missed a rainbow line! Jeff Withey 14/5/2/2/2. With 2 good percents and no turnovers in 27 minutes. I watched a bunch of this game too and I don’t know where all those stats came from. He looked aggressive and all but he also looked like he didn’t belong out there at times. Either way that line definitely has garnered my attention.

@Slim: Unfortunately, I didn’t have my computer and had to cook up a really quick post and missed some stuff. I’m going for a huge post tomorrow. Never woulda expected Withey to be a rainbow threat! Haha. I agree O’Quinn probably doesn’t have a prolonged future but has some value right now.

Yeah I mean, the announcers were saying they thought it hit a tooth but I thought it mighta dislocated or something. Looked nasty. Ended up not broken but needed stitches.

Haha no selling Aldridge. Brewer had a nice game with the blocks and woulda been mentioned if I had my normal time.

Screw your nice weather! Haha. I am right at the end of the vortex or whatever and temps dropped to single digits even down here. Stupid ice!

Got offered kevin Martin for my Larry sanders. What do you think? Too much sanders upside or dump him while I can?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@E: Kinda depends on needs, worth noting a pinkie with stitches for Martin could hurt his shot in the short term, I think Sanders is worth the upside.

  3. Dan Gilbert says:
    (link)

I have been offered deng, ibaka, and klay Thompson, for my LBJ. Is that enough to pull the trigger?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Dan Gilbert: Damn.. In a very deep league I might, but in 10 or 12 team I probably wouldn’t

  4. Joe says:
    (link)

    Got a team comprised of Lillard, IT2, Burke, Knight, Tyreke, Deng, J.Green, D.Lee, Ibaka, Humphries, and M.Gasol. 12-team, 11-man, 9-cat, h2h.

Would you drop J.Green for any of: J.Johnson, Faried, Belinelli, Brewer, R.Allen, McBob, Mirza, Gibson, Boozer, PJ Tucker, or W.Johnson? (ok I’ll stop there…)

I may be beating the J.Green thing like a dead horse, but although he’ll occasionally put up points and a few counting stats, his terrible shooting at a high volume kills my soul a little bit inside. I’d also consider dropping Humphries, but he’s had some good games as a starter with blocks potential…

    Thanks!

    • Joe says:

      @Joe:

Oops, forgot to include Sullinger as an option…

      • Joe says:
        (link)

        @Joe:

And it’s James Johnson, not Joe. I need to stop posting early in the morning.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Joe: Haha no prob! Yeah Jeff Green is one of my worse calls and a huge bust across the board. I think I hold Green over all those guys, I do love Sullinger and he’s close, but I think Green’s upside is tough to drop there. Given that Rondo could bring something out of him. You never know.

      • Clyde Prompto says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: Jeff Green makes me want to put my head in the oven. Well, Jeff Green and the subzero temps. But mostly Jeff Green.

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:

@Clyde Prompto: Haha luckily the roads were fine by the morning and I just left then. Stupid winter! Damn, Maine man? I dunno if I could do it haha

      • Clyde Prompto says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: Haha yeah I’m not big on the whole winter thing either. Whiskey and chili do a decent job of getting me through each year. Oh, and fantasy basketball helps too, of course.

        • JB Gilpin

What do you think of this trade? Klay thompson, Deng, and Ibaka for my Lebron James. I would have to drop 2 between Humphries, meeks, and amir johnson

@dan gilbert: Got ya above :)

  7. Anthony says:
    (link)

    12 teams, 5 keep auction league..h2h most categories. Here’s what’s cooken’:

My Love ($2) for his Griffen ($4) and Klay Thompson ($2). Arguably three of the biggest steals in our league. My other keepers are…Rose($19), Lebron ($52) and Deandre Jordan ($11). If I keep Love I will try and just keep a cheap guy with upside as my last or with this offer I get two dynamite 4th and 5th keepers. But it’s Love….what do you think?! THANKS A LOT!!!!

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Anthony: I’m still not a huge Klay Thompson guy, so I think I would keep Love. Any time! Damn if Rose is healthy next year, you’ll be unbeatable!

  8. Furious says:
    (link)

Pick up Jeremy Evans by dropping Marvin Williams. Seems like Marvin is riding more and more pine of late.

    • Furious says:
      (link)

@Furious: Guess I should probably clarify a little bit. 14-team league with 13 player rosters. Also, have A/T instead of Turnovers.

Other players available: Patrick Patterson, Mike Scott, Caldwell-Pope, Jason Thompson.

      Thanks

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Furious: Right now I like Patterson the best of the group, but I like the Evans for MWill move!

  9. TR says:
    (link)

What two would you start between beal, augustin, Tyson chandler, Larry sanders, and butler?

Also, Jeff Teague was dropped in my league and I have the #1 waiver spot. Would you stop Oladipo, Burke, sanders, or pierce for him?

    • TR says:
      (link)

      @TR: or sullinger

      • Prodders says:
        (link)

@TR: The only one I’d think twice about there would be rainbOladipo, Teague’s def better than the others. He’s still a top 50 guy in my view, even with the poor form. Drop Sanders or Burke depending on needs I’d say.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@TR: Yeah I think you need to grab Teague. Probably dropping Tyson or Sullinger. Sanders is still questionable last I saw, I’d probably start Beal and Augustin in a vacuum

      • Prodders says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: agree would rather drop Tyson or Sullinger, just read the Q differently. Get yourself some InsaniTeague! (that is currently on a Hawks league pass commercial!)

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

          @Prodders: InsaniTeague!

Ilyasova,…..What to do, what to do?? Do I hold on to him or drop him for P. Bev??

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

@Ilyasova: Haha, you have been just so damn inconsistent! I would grab PBev indeed

  11. justin.g says:
    (link)

What are.your thoughts on Bledsoe? Coach says they want him back as soon as possible but Bledsoe himself said he is going to take a while to get to 100%. He’s one of my favorite players in the league and I was stoked to draft him but do you think he’s worth the hold? I can handle.4-6 weeks but anymore I’m not sure

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@justin.g: I think he’s a drop in 10 or 12ers. Just seen meniscus injuries jack up knees in the NBA too often… I like him a lot too :(

  12. Jake Van Zuiden says:
    (link)

What’s crackin JB? So a lot of people have been asking me for Kevin Love because he’s an absolute stud in our settings ( FGM/FTM/PTS/3S/OREB/DREB/AST/STL/BLK/TO/DD ). Not saying I want to trade him, but if i can get a good enough offer to put my team over the top, I think I will pull the trigger. Tell me what you think about these…

    1) Davis and Jefferson for Love and Gortat
    2) Pau and DeAndre for Love and Valanciunas
    3) Dwight and Lillard for Love and Rubio
    4) Harden and Lawson for Love and Burke
    5) Drummond and Millsap for Love and Valanciunas

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Jake Van Zuiden: 1) man… Kinda like that one if you won’t miss the 3s. 2) Nahhhhh 3) Nahhhh 4) If you can handle the loss of the big man stats, I think that’s a winner, Harden is playing well again. 5) Nah. So I think it comes down to team needs but I would do 1 or 4 if either is taken!

      • Jake VZ says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: Got offered IT2, Noah, and Knight for Love, Redick, and Rubio.. What do you think?

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Jake VZ: Nah I think it’s selling Rubio too low and best guy in deal is Love

  13. Bon says:
    (link)

Whats the deal with bledsoe? should i hold on to him or drop him for now? they say he’s like a minilebron but he gets injured like mad!

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

      @Bon: Haha in 10 or 12 I think he’s cuttable unfortunately

  14. Don Majkowski says:
    (link)

I asked a similar questions yesterday, but the terms have changed a little

    10 cat H2H 14 team-league (double doubles is 10th cat)

I give: ZBo + Drop Wes Johnson

    I get: Teague & Taj

Zbo is a monster in dub dub league, here is my team:

Westbrook, Reggie Jackson, Kendall Marshall, Collison
    Kev Martin, Terrence Ross
    Marion, Wes Johnson
    Love, ZBo, Favors, Humphries
    Unibrow, Bosh

I feel like this move would make me more well rounded despite giving up the double double monster Randolph….Teague gonna have a big ROS?

    • Don Majkowski says:
      (link)

@Don Majkowski: You told me to do essentally thismove yesterday (was getting iggy instead of Taj)…I reallythink I hould do it, but cant seem to pull the trgger…talk me into it.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Don Majkowski: Teague is an ultimate buy low right now. Would take him straight up for Z-Bo in most leagues, pretty close considering dub-dubs though. The real need for Teague is your PG future. With Westbrook back it hurts Jackson (although in 14 teams both will still be good players for ya), Paul, and the mess that is Lakers PGs all set to return at some point down the road, your PG depth is going to take a huge hit. I think you need Teague to help handle that.

      • Don Majkowski says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: THink Im guna pull the trigger.

Then, my next move…deal Collison or Marshall before the bottom falls out on them.

Who do you like more long-term/who should I deal? what kind of player can I expect in return(somewhat replace Zbo)?

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Don Majkowski: I think Marshall and the flashy assists is the guy to move. Maybe Sullinger? Or someone like that I like him a lot and you can pair the BOS bigs if one gets hurt

  15. 740 says:

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@740: Yeah I would do that deal. No Rose has Noah playing great and Dragic I think can keep it up as I don’t see Bledsoe immediately becoming the guy he was and that’s not even going to be for a while.

  16. Aj says:
    (link)

Drop R.lopez or Valancius for Channing Frye

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

@Aj: Yeah I would drop Lopez

  17. Bren says:

Ersan or Gibson for ROS? Who has the better situation haha

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

This prob sounds stupid but what does ROS stand for….

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Jenning: Haha not stupid at all! Stands for Rest of Season. So is throwing out guys that are only with a good situation now. LIke Sessions ROS isn’t nearly as high of value as right now.

  19. Tsilaeri says:

    Thanks for the post.
Would you trade away Jeff Green for Kobe?
Heard Kobe might be back on 1/28

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Tsilaeri: Sorry it was a short one! Yeah I think I’d take the chance on Kobe there, Green has been so awful

  20. Katrina says:
    (link)

Hey Mike, kind of stressing over a trade that was tossed my way. H2H, points, 12-team.

    My team is as follows:
    I. Thomas
    D. Cousins
    D. Lillard
    L. Sanders
    G. Antetokoumpo
    James Johnson
    J. Thompson
    T. Gibson
    J.R. Smith
    J. Valanciunas
    R. Kelly
    M. Belinelli
    J. Smith
    T. Burke
    K. Korver
    S. Blake (IR)
    X. Henry (IR)

Today a guy offered me Varejao for my J. Smith. I don’t know what to do! Normally I would accept the trade in a heartbeat but I’m heavy on C/PF as it is: we only play PG, SG, PF, SF, C, G, F, PF/C, SF/SG — 9 slots. Am I crazy if I take this trade?

Help me, JB, you’re my only hope.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Katrina: Hah, I think I would pass. Love Smith and the multi-cat and while Varejao is ballin’ you have good bigs. Unless J. Smith is Jason Smith, then yea def Vareajo :)

  21. Katrina says:
    (link)

Don’t know why I called you Mike, sorry.

  22. Katrina says:
    (link)

Okay! Last comment! Also I was just offered Thaddeus Young and JJ Redick for my Josh Smith and Taj Gibson. Is that better? Are either of these good ideas?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Katrina: Haha as many as you need! I think I would keep Smith there too, Young has trade concerns. I like this one more than Varejao straight up though

  23. Patrick says:
    (link)

i was offered LBJ and kobe for Kyrie and Harden. I should decline right? 14 team h2h 9 cat

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Patrick: Yeah I think I’d have to decline that one

  24. Lasandro says:
    (link)

Nice one JB! Thoughts on me trading W Matthews and Sully or Nene for Demar?

    • Lasandro says:
      (link)

Also, going off what we spoke about the other day, I’m still humming and arring over trading my Love for Ty and Ibaka. The other party has offered me a choice of Serge or ZBo.

      Love
      AD
      Sully
      Parsons
      Afflalo
      Pierce

      Nelson
      Vuc (never coming back..)
      T Jones
      Matthews
      Meeks
      Nene

Btw, been offered TT for Vuc straight up, by the league leader. Dont know how much longer I can wait on this guy to come back. Should I bite?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Lasandro: Starting from the 2nd, def take Serge over Zbo. Don’t take TT for Vuc! TT is not that good. Probably wouldn’t do the DeRozan deal either, but close.

      • Lasandro says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: haha we all hate TT!! Hm interesting you feel that way about Derozen. Thought that trade was stronger than me trading Wes and Sully for E Gordon and Henson (then dropping Gordon for Wil Chandler). Perhaps I should go ahead with that 2 for 2 then..

        • Lasandro says:
          (link)

@Lasandro: Good to have Willy Style and Muppet Man back on the squad! Now, here’s hoping Larry Screw doesnt start Butler or Ridnour at the center position next game. Y’see, he’s all about developing the youngsters..

          • JB Gilpin

            JB Gilpin says:
            (link)

@Lasandro: I just like TT more than Blatch against Slim is all :) I like Henson a lot too so I was with you one that. Stupid Larry Drew! Well Sanders has the money and is still youngish too, so he should be getting minutes

              Nelson
              Meeks
              W Chandler

At a crossroads with the guy offering Serge and Ty. He’s been offered by someone else and now it’s pressure time. Think giving up Love (and dropping ??) for those two is a better team move for me? Or should I just sit. I get that value-wise it’s close..

@JB Gilpin: points, boards, FGM, A/To are needed improvements

@Lasandro: I think with those stats, esp. A/To, Lawson is gonna help a ton and Serge replaces boards. I still like it. Probably dropping Meeks with Kobe some point in the horizon

Breaking – Rudy Gay out with Achilles, DeMarcus Cousins with a really bad looking ankle injury

      Gross for both!

Watching the bucks game and butler has 22 pts. Henson plays 15 mins. And all I have to say is FIRE THIS STUPID COACH! Man this team looks terrible out there. Illyvosa gets 30 mins and looks like he’s 42 yrs old. Ugh..done…Garbage with a capital G! Im not even getting started on Philly RANT OVER. LOL

@matt: I JUST traded for Henson! This is straight criminal! He’s played 15min all game and still managed a block, a couple of boards and 10pts on high %s. How Butler and Middleton are playing starters mins off the bench (not to mention Udoh and Ily hardly leaving the court either) is beyond me. I hope to god he gets called out by management or at least the local press. If Sanders is out, how on earth does it make sense to NOT play you’re only other defensive anchor and most consistent per/min player on the entire roster?? FML

@Lasandro: your guess is as good as mine and 99% of razzball nation. We’re all collectively scratching our heads together…Larry “The Jerk” Drew is just that…A straight jerk-off!!!

@Lasandro: Henson was in foul trouble early. Tough night trying to body Drummond. Not to defend Larry Drew though haha

@Shaft: Don’t you dare defend Larry Drew! Haha

        • Lasandro says:
          (link)

@Shaft: Oh he was, I saw. But didn’t he end the first half with only 2 PFs? And the entire game with 4? Sure, the first 2 fouls may have scared Screw to bench henson, but he ended up with only 6mins that entire first half. In the post game, he was quoted as saying that he wanted to play big against the Pistons.. which is why he played Ridnour and Middleton damn near 30min each? This man plays with his rotations the way Pop does every now and then. Difference is, the Bucks are bad. Really bad. Apparently the whole point of his hiring was to develop his young players. I was reading an old Slam magazine of mine from ’04 the other day. There was a para about how good Ridnour is as a serviceable backup point. So yeah – not that young.

Hey jb what do you think about these 2 trades im.trying?
Hayward & MCW for my M. Gasol & Eric Gordon
    Second one…
Kemba & Hayward for my Derozn Gordon
How does that look and which one do you like more?

    • JB Gilpin

@matt: Eh, selling Gasol a little low, but close, Much rather that second one, buying Kemba low and not losing the production of Marc

@JB Gilpin: ok thanks, that’s the one I liked best also :-)

Another league another trade my Howard/Deron for his Noah/I$$ah Thomas.. trading howards bad FT% and Derons bad legs for Noahs bad back for IT2’s dope upside. This is a no brainer pretty much right?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@matt: Uhhh, I wouldn’t say no brainer if you would miss Howard’s big man stats, Noah will help, but is a little more well-rounded. That said I think I like it, IT2 might put up 30 a night if DMC and Gay are out a little while

hey, in my 14 team 9cat league I droped Jarrett Jack for Evan Fournier after information on Rotoworld that he replaces Foye in s5. Right now, should I stick with Fournier or drop him for Gerald Wallace, Mirza Teletovic? Get back to Jack?
