Don't be shellfish...Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+

If you have been stashing (or if you’re Grey, staching) Marc Gasol on your roster, you were feeling some Good Vibrations last night!  Less because of the production, but more with the early arrival and fantasy goodness.  And that good-ol Gasol Wildside.  Now, I may be too young to remember Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, but I am old enough to [barely] remember when Gasol went down that I said he was a hold in all formats.  You may be saying “no duh!”, but he was dropped in several shallower leagues by those darned knee-jerkers.  But as we talked about in the comments earlier this week, I see Gasol getting eased in and a tad rusty the first few games, but then back to a beast.  3-7 for 12/4/1 and 6-8 at the stripe last night.  You’ll take that from a guy you’ve stashed!  The Thunder tried to rough him up and it didn’t work.  Only 24:12 on the court, but the one assist he had was vintage Gasol and should leave you feeling dandy from this point on.  And props to Prodders for breaking the news and hopefully you got him in your line-up.  Our comments save lives!  New Razzball bumper sticker.  Here’s what else I saw last night in Fantasy Hoops:

Kevin Durant - Played like a beast, but was definitely grabbing his wrist a few times late in the game.  Stay tuned as there should be some increased in-depth follow ups from fantasy’s best player.

James Johnson - Man, if only he was on a team not loaded up front!  Racks up rainbows in 20 minutes!  4/3/3/2/2 in 20:06.  I really like JJ, but more minutes from Gasol and a healthy Zach Randolph and Ed Davis has him still on the outskirts of 12-teamers for me.  But look at that athleticism!  If Z-Bo goes down I could see them giving him the starting 4 spot.  Would be a must-add in all leagues then.

Reggie Jackson - 17/6/3, three treys, but 7 TOs.  It’s like a bad Russell Westbrook game!  Man they need Westbrook back…

Steven Adams - Looked really, really good.  Lurch (full credit to Slim!) was lurching all around the paint for 5/9/0/1/0 in only 21 minutes.  But man, if he got 30 minutes next to Serge Ibaka next year, that would be one of the best front lines in hoops.

Courtney Lee - Needs to be owned in most 12-teamers right now.  Yup, bold.  And daring.  Like a Dorito!  9-15 FG (2-3 3PTM 4-4 FT) for 24/5/0/2/0.  While a tad of a ThrAGNOF, he was all over the court and I think given the 30+ minutes I think he’s going to get most games (37 last night) here on out, he’ll board and steal.  I don’t think this was much of a fluke.  I’m not baked… Like a Dorito!

Boogie - Near rainbow!  31/13/2/2/1.  This was the year to get him… Sadly, I did not…

Isaiah Thomas - Terrible 7/1/1/1/0 line in 28 minutes.  3-9 shooting and now single-digit scoring/bad shooting games in 2 of the last 3.  Buy low fa rizz.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist - Maybe the most unceremonious return from injury you could ever imagine.  But got 31 minutes, did his multi-cat thing for 8/7/2/2/0 with no TOs.  Shot only 3-12, but I bet he’s out there in even 16-teamers.  Worth a look up to 14ers.

Al Jefferson - 35/8/2/1/1.  If only someone told you to buy low through the first few months of the season!  Numbers looking a lot like last year’s already – and that includes a lot of smaller minute games easing back from early injuries.

Tyson Chandler - Returned for 17 minutes of auiobroenfqijphperihgfpi2j3fp.

Kendall Marshall - Step right up – you’re next California!  Because Kendall is slingin’ dimebags like it’s legal!  10/2/16/1/0 with only 3 TOs and 2 treys.  A little cloudy in ROS value with Kobe Bryant still looking to come back by the Super Bowl, but obviously a hold right now.

Jodie Meeks - 26/3/4 with 6 threes.  Meeks-a-be-your-humble-servant!

Nick Young - Pshhhh.  I don’t like Nick Young.  28/1/6/0/0 in a nice game.  Sure.  Shot 7-16, hit four treys, but the 10-10 FT made it the big night.  I know he’s been scoring a lot lately, but is just so empty everywhere else.  The dimes a fluke.  ThrAGNOF!

Luol Deng - Best game as a Cav.  27/5/4/1/0 shooting 9-15 and perfect 5-5 from deep and 4-4 from the stripe.  Gotta love the 38 minutes if you’re a Deng owner, easing the worry of his Achilles.

Anderson Varejao - Makes you wonder why they brought in Andrew Bynum at all… Well, I guess Anderson’s health, but pshaw!  18/18/6.  Just 2 and 2 more for a Goromotaro!  Only 7 Goromotaros this year… Let’s get some more 20/20 games, NBA bigs!

Kyrie Irving - Another bad one… I keep holding out that he’s a buy low.  So I still am!  I should make an inspirational poster that says “PERSISTANCE” and it shows a screen grab of someone dropping Kyrie from their fantasy team…  Then I should get one that says “SPELL CZECH” – sometimes it misses things…

C.J. Miles - The decline we all saw Miles away when Deng got to town.  Was a fun ride while it lasted.  Fun like Ride Along.  At least that looks fun.  But I hope Ice Cube doesn’t try to sell me a Coors Light in the middle of it…

Next Game: I’ve got a thriller in CHI @ ORL then an actual good one in SAC @ MEM.  Will be cheering on D.J. Augustin to finally get his due in big minutes and then see who wins the race to 120 points in the late game.  Jam packed schedule in the NBA tonight, so be sure you have your best/full roster out there and good luck tonight!

JB what’s going on? I’ve got a tough decision to make.. Everyone’s playing tonight except for ibaka so I’ve got to have 2 guys on the bench that will be playing tonight.
    Here’s my current starting lineup..
    PG – IT2
    SG – Dragic
    G- Lowry
    SF- Derozan
    PF-Boozer
    F- Lebron
    C-Varejao
    C-Pekovic
    Util – MCW
    Util – Wall
    Bench… Klay, Sanders, ibaka

Obviously keep sanders on the bench he hasn’t done much and I would think out of all my guards and forwards klay has produced the least.. Hes done well for me but everyone else just seems to be doing better right now.. What do you think JB?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@CDS: Yup very busy day in the NBA… I think I would find a way to get Klay in there in what should be a fast paced game there in Denver. I would probably put LeBron at PF and Klay at F sitting Boozer. Unless you needed the boards tonight. Boozer at Orlando just seems like it’s going to be a yawn fest haha

      • CDS says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: ok cool thanks jb

  2. Martin says:
    (link)

I have just offered Nicola Vucevic for my Thad Young. Would you pull the trigger?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Martin: Yeah I’d have to do that one

  3. E says:
    (link)

Was offered Kevin martin for my brad beal. what do you think? At this point i feel their rest of season is pretty similar…

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@E: Yeah I agree, Beal I would take for upside if I needed to climb back in the standings but injury risk, Martin much safer

  4. Gioo says:
    (link)

Hi JB, so im here again to bother you with lame question lol this time i am wondering if i should drop James Johnson for Amir?

    Thank you!

    • Gioo says:
      (link)

      @Gioo:

      or Al-Farouq Aminu?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Gioo: For Amir I would. I wouldn’t for Aminu even with Aminu getting big minutes. JJ would be killer if he was starting somewhere!

  5. Prodders says:
    (link)

Thanks for the shout-out JB. That was great fun, the surprise early return and a great win for Memphis in a belter of a game with OKC. The crowd were going nuts the whole game… I guess they must have started the Big Burrito in their weekly lineups too huh?

ROS value – DJ Jazzy Augustin or Super Mario? Chalm School has a great playoff schedule in our league, and I can imagine Wade and Bron putting their feet up from mid March and Chalmers etc having to do more of the heavy lifting. But DJA is fun right now, lots of assists, and upside if Thibs moves him to the starting lineup / Hinrich gets hurt. Or roll the dice on Alphabet?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Prodders: Haha yeah the crowd was great, especially in their early lead then late. Gasol looked like 80% of Gasol so very good to see. You know everyone in Memphis drafts only Grizzlies! Man, all 3 guys I like respective to their under-utilization. I’ll risk DJ since Chalmers is dealing with injuries and could be on the plethora of DNPs late in the year come near-playoffs.

      • Prodders says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: I like it, enjoy rolling the dice a bit. Will keep DJ or grab Alphabet if he gets consistent minutes. Cheers

  6. Bren says:
    (link)

Would I be crazy to want to drop Jeff green for Terrence Ross? I actually want to drop all my wing players which include j butler, pierce, Tobias and knight. All of them killing my FG and empty stats…not to mention inconsistent! Been trying to do a two for one with these guys but no one wants to bite haha

    • matt says:
      (link)

      @Bren: I wouldn’t be dropping butler or Knight…for who?

      • Bren says:
        (link)

        @matt: for Ross haha

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Bren: Definitely not crazy! But I think you have to hold Jeff Green… PIerce and Butler are more droppable with less upside. But I think I’d hold what you have. You cite empty stats and Ross does that a lot too :(

  7. Winless since Christmas says:
    (link)

    10 team h2h 9 cat
Looking at my team, I am in a couple of moves to allow me to be more comfortable.

Lillard DeRozan Calderon Harden Favors Iggy Hibbert Ibaka JV Pekovic BN – Nelson Redick Jo Crawford

I am thinking it would take two moves and these 2 teams stick out as possibilities and long shots at getting both needs met in 1 trade.

    Team 1:
Rubio Beal Wade Parsons Lebron Ariza A.Johnson Varejao Burke Meeks BN – Smith Millsap Illyasova

I’m presuming Rubio isn’t attainable unless i throw back a PG.So maybe target Millsap? Could use another SF flexibility wise.but i don’t know if a Millsap+Parsons package is attainable, or if it would allow me to meet my other need.

    Team 2
Conley Ellis Wall Turner Plumlee Cousins Boozer R.Lopez Dragic Collision BN – Ellis Shumpert W.Chandler

With all of his PG this could be a get a 2 for 1 for Harden situation.Moving Harden would allow me to take on more TO from a PG.
Any thoughts and advice on offers?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Winless since Christmas: Well if you traded Harden i would want a ton. Wall and Dragic actually might not be the worst trade in the world though, I like both those PGs. I think that would be the route I would go rather than try to pry Millsap

  8. Pedro says:
    (link)

Hey JB…in a 9-cat standard roto would you do my Paul George and JJ Hickson for his Rudy Gay and David Lee? Should I push for Lowry instead of Gay or is that a stretch…?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Pedro: Lowry is still an injury red flag for me… I would probably hold off on that deal even though it gives you great depth. Would want to hold on to George

  9. matt says:

With gasol back hears my bigs Petro,Gasol,Henson,Sanders,Ibaka, Love It’s not fair..the game is cheating!!! Haha

  10. TR says:

What do you think of giving up Jefferson and favors for kyrie and robin Lopez?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@TR: If you can handle losing two good big men I think I would, but if I would be at all thin up front I wouldn’t

  11. Aj says:
    (link)

Thoughts on trading my Batum/Matthews for Cousins? Thanks

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Aj: Seems like an overpay. I know DMC is killin’ it, but I would keep Batum

  12. Steve Stevenson says:
    (link)

Thoughts on how/if the Jordan Crawford trade combined with Rondo’s impending return affects Bradley’s value? Bradley’s had mid-late round value in my H2H pts league lately, in 30+ mpg. Bradley or Courtney Lee ROS?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Steve Stevenson: Courtney Lee by a long shot. Love what he’s doing, starting for the Grizz. Think he gets big minutes here on out

      • Steve Stevenson says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: So you’re not worried about Tony Allen coming back? The Grizz love them some Tony Allen.

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Steve Stevenson: Yeah that’s a good point but I think he can get 25 minutes even with a healthy Allen and that looks to be a little while still

  13. Joe says:
    (link)

How do you rank the following ROS – Knight vs. Redick vs. Korver – and how far apart do you see them from each other in those rankings?

Yay for Gasol returning. My season may just be saved. Maybe.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Joe: Brandon Knight a mile ahead of the other two. So much upside and even the down games are decent these days. Then Korver narrowly over Redick, those two are close. Gasol FTW!

  14. Marcin says:
    (link)

I was offered Nicola Vucevic for my Thad Young. Should I push the trigger?

  15. Eric says:
    (link)

I need to activate John Henson, who is worth a drop out of these guys? Wilson Chandler, Marshall, or Reggie Jackson?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Eric: Damn… I think I would rather all 3 of those guys over Henson right now. Can you keep him in your IR a little longer?

      • Eric says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: I also have Valanciunas, but I’d rather keep him too. And yeah I could just keep Henson in my IR

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Eric: Yeah I agree, I know it hamstrings you a little bit but I would wait

  16. FillyP says:
    (link)

Sup JB, what do you think about Beal for ROS? Thinking about moving Afflalo for him.. standard 10t 8 cat league. Good move?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@FillyP: Definitely would want Beal, even with the injury risk. I like him, and can have some hot games, Afflalo remains a big trade candidate for ORL. And he certainly would have a diminished role wherever he ends up

  17. Thunder from down under says:
    (link)

Who to start M gasol or Andrew bogut? Thanks mate

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Thunder from down under: I’d go Bogut tonight, unsure about back-to-back games right off the bat for Marcy marc

  18. Jake VZ says:
    (link)

Boogie is so good this year, He gets a ton of points, boards, steals, and even assists quite a bit for a big man. You couldn’t ask for better production. Even though is doesn’t say in the yahoo rankings, you have to think he’s a top-15 player?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Jake VZ: Yeah man he’s a beast. Basektball Monster has him at 13 in their algorithms… https://basketballmonster.com/PlayerRankings.aspx I’d say the end of top-20 because there’s still that knucklehead factor and you never know what could come up.

  19. Lasandro says:
    (link)

Nice one JB, as always. Have Channing and R Jax on my squad and thinkin of flippin’ Frye for Henson on the wire (he was a beast for me prior to his time off) and Jax for Nelson (in more need of 3s and assists cats). Think these are both pretty decent moves, ROS?

    • Lasandro says:
      (link)

Nope, went Sully instead of Henson – his game today was STUPID and his wrist injury may be a thing of the past. So long Frye haha. But yes, thoughts on Nelson. He seems severely underrated in my league – been picked up and dropped to death. Jackson gets ok raw numbers but his turnovers and %s can kill me. i know he has a month left in the starting spot, but nelson is consistent if anything

      • Lasandro says:
        (link)

@Lasandro: Or should I forego high assist numbers and take a flier on J Butler instead? Jax doesnt hold much value on my squad

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Lasandro: Nice! Yup buy that move. I was a big Sully believer and think he can finish strong. Yeah I think I’d have to go Nelson now too, but wait until tomorrow, leff in the 3rd OT with what looked like a tight hammy. I’d stay tuned to that

      • Lasandro says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: Great tip, thanks man. Wish I had another spot for Henson – he’s my boy! When AD was down for so long, he really was the Coke Zero to AD’s Classic game

      • Lasandro says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: You know, with my picking up Sully, and Faried not doing much atm, do I switch Kenneth with the now returned Wilson C? Think I may be fine going forward with boards having Sully, AD, Love, Nene (kinda rebounder), and an injured Vuc. My scorers are Love, AD, Parsons, Afflalo, W Matthews and Meeks. Oladipo, t Jones and Jax round out the squad..

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Lasandro: Yeah i think I would make that move to help your needs

  20. Shoop Da Whoop says:
    (link)

Congrats to anyone who had James Johnson in their lineup today.

    • Lasandro says:
      (link)

      @Shoop Da Whoop: YIKES!

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Shoop Da Whoop: Yup had highlights for that game. Absolutely all over the place. I will saw though that the Bucks and their ineptitude helped the blocks total, and Gasol only playing 14 minutes in the back-to-back helped the minutes. Loving the production, but just so unsure about the minutes

      • Shoop Da Whoop says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: He’s clearly a gifted athlete, but he’s legitimately terrible at basketball. He turns the ball over way too often for someone who doesn’t create anything, he’s not an efficient scorer, and he gets beat too easily on defense because he goes for blocks and steals.

He’s slightly better than he was a few years ago, but if he develops a move or an outside shot, he would be a fantasy stud. A frontcourt Gerald Green, I suppose?

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Shoop Da Whoop: He’s improved a lot, a lot of blocks coming ala weakside defense like Ibaka does it. Hit I think 2 threes tonight, but I still am worried about the minutes with healthy Gasol and Zbo. Just not enough to go around unless another injury hits

  21. Hey JB – haven’t checked in a few days. Too much real work. Sorry for disappearing. It’s not you, it’s me.

Real quick — why no love for my guy, Wes Johnson? You gotta give my dude some ink — he’s really coming on for the Fakers. Check his production the last 5 games. Borderline 12 team must add. He’s on both my 14 and 16 team squads and enjoy the shizel outta it.

that sexy combo of 3pm/steal/blocks tough to ignore. Jump on it, big fella. Jump – jump!

Dick Duster has to come around on Hill soon..has to!

@El BURRO: I thought about it, but not much has changed since my last mention of him. I mentioned love for him last week! http://basketball.razzball.com/welcome-poster

So that woulda applied to you. If only you were still with us every day :(

Hill with a start! Coming around!

      • @JB Gilpin:

Clearly, I’m wasted. My bad, you don’t miss a beat, pepper.

Not sure if you get the LA feed out in your hood, but James Worthy pretty much hates D’Antoni. Poignant words on the post-game. Pretty sure it will be all over the papers and wires tomorrow. Fun-fun-fun! Getting them all to turn to my corner, one by one. Operation oust Mr. Pringles from purple and gold land is in full effect…

In other news, Clips with a monster come-back win… Leaving Staples now. Hell of a victory. Wowzers.

@El BURRO: I try not to, salt! I’ll have to check out Worthy’s clip. Pringles is gonna get gone! Yeah big win for the Clips. LA owned by the Clippers now!

What up JB. Just traded Tristan T for Hemson the muppet master. Room for another guard – who you like: Lee (assuming decent tony Allen mins), Barbosa, or Brian Roberts, ROS?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@SheriffMcRawDawg: Nice! I think it’s Lee by a decent margin looking at ROS, it would be Roberts right now though. I think Lee can play combo backup 1/2 in big minutes even when Allen is back
