Don't be shellfish...Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+

I won’t sit here and lie to you.  I watch every Miami Heat game (or try to), hence the Mario Chalmers buy last week (speaking of Chalmers he strained his triceps last night but is day to day).  You may be like, “Yo Redacted you’re totally biased cause you’re a heat fan” but I think I’m pretty objective.  I saw improvement in Chalmers’ passing ability and my observations were confirmed by actual, real NBA analysts so it isn’t just my Heat love.  Of course this week Chalmers took a dump on the court and millions of viewers were horrified.  So getting to my actual buy, Ray Allen is the anti-OJ in that the glove fits.  The guy is lighting it up in Miami because he is 1) Healthy; 2) WIDE OPEN ALL THE TIME; 3) See #1; 4) See #2; and finally 5) See #’s 3 and 4.  I’d look for Top 50 production all season long, although in the second half of the season we may see the Heat reduce his minutes some to keep him fresh for the playoffs.  We don’t need to worry about that just yet though.

BUY

Dwyane Wade – My 3rd Heat player as a buy this year!  Maybe I’m a homer or maybe this team won the NBA championship last year so there’s bound to be good players.  Wade has gotten off to a bad start (for him) with 17 ppg, 4 reb, 5 ast, 1.3 stl, 0.9 blk and hasn’t looked himself during games.  So, why?  Well last weekend he caught a bug and Spoelstra made him sit out the Atlanta game and now he has a foot injury that is bothering him.  Every year we know that Wade misses some games due to injury but we also know that he’s an absolute juggernaut in the games he does play in.  If you can find an owner that is worried and can buy him for someone like Kevin Martin or Zach Randolph, I think the injury risk is worth it.

Gerald Wallace – In non-Heat news, Crash has been dealing with a sprained ankle that has sidelined him for almost two weeks now (and has only played in one game all season).  He SHOULD be returning on Sunday vs. the Kings so if you can find a frustrated owner try and make a dash for Crash.

Kyle Lowry – Hmmmmm, Wade then Wallace and now Lowry.  Can you see a trend for the buys?  Yes?  I knew you were kinda smart.  That’s right, injured players that will be coming back soon.  Everybody that reads this blog wouldn’t sell a player like that but that’s why we win leagues.  Lowry is dealing with that sprained ankle (another ankle… when did everybody turn into Stephen Curry?) and will be back within two weeks.  Did I mention he’s ranked #1 on Yahoo’s average rankings for the season?  Yeah, he’s good.

Klay Thompson – I love Klay Thompson.  It’s a near man-crush and he (plus Curry) convinced me to put the Warriors as one of my 5 league pass teams.  How does he repay me?  With an abysmal 36% FG, 76% FT after shooting 44%, 87% respectively last year.  Damn it hurts Klay… will he make it up to me?  I think so.  He’s been playing pretty well outside of the shooting and with Curry healthy he’s getting some open looks but just isn’t hitting them right now.  Look for the %’s to rebound.

SELL

Kemba Walker – Wow.  What a beast this guy has been on the Bobcats…I can’t even get away with calling them the Kittens anymore.  After shooting an AWFUL 37% from the floor last year, he’s now at a respectable 43%.  Part of the reason?  Cutting down his 3 pt attempts from 3.4 per game to 2.4 (shot 30% from 3 last year).  He’s been a top 15 player this year (per Yahoo) so why sell?  He’s averaging 3 steals per game after only 1 last year.  Walker may be in the running for most improved player this year but I would not expect a top 20 finish.  Top 50 is possible, but I think top 70 is more likely.  Let’s hope he learns from Josh Smith and just keeps going to the rim.

J.R. Smith – He’s the most irrationally confident player in the league.  Yes, even more than Jason Terry.  He could go 0-15, then hit a 3, and his swag would blow the roof off of MSG.  This year his swag is reaching new heights with him being ranked 5th in Yahoo’s scoring.  FIFTH.  That would be one spot higher than freaking LeBron James.  He is shooting 73.7% from 3.  Yes, from 3.  Also known as behind the arc or downtown.  Dwight Howard would kill to have that as a FT%.  SPOILER ALERT:  Smith will not shoot that well from 3 all season.  Dangle him in front of owners desperate for 3’s.

Luis Scola – We go from young guns to old men.  It kinda makes me cry that I’m calling a 32 year old an old man, but we talk basketball years like we do doggie years.  If you remember last week’s buy/sell, I had two other 32 year olds on the list.  I hate this age.  I’m going to start my mid-life crisis early when I reach it.  Helloooo Dodge Viper, here I come!  Look, Scola is good and consistent.  I definitely see him as a top 75 player, but not a top 40.  Be wary of his defensive stats dropping some, as well as his FT% (Current 84%, Career 74%).

Tim Duncan – Over the summer while everyone else was playing in the Olympics, Duncan visited a ski resort and a strange thing happened.  No, the strange thing isn’t Duncan going to a ski resort in the summer.  He found this hot tub.  It turned out it was a time machine!  Whoa!  Duncan went back to 2003, ignored various time travel paradoxes, and convinced his 2003 self to play in Today’s NBA!  He tried to persuade his teammate Manu Ginobili to do the same thing but he was tied up in London.  Duncan is averaging over 2 blocks per game for the first time since 2007 and all his other stats are up from last year across the board.  I’m going to go out on a limb and say that he will not finish in the Top 10 this year (currently 8th).  I would sell him for a Top 10 player if you can.

  1. Any thoughts on Singler vs. Stuckey value now that Singler is starting? I have Stuckey and am wondering if I should swap the two – tough call, considering Stuckey will have less minutes but will see more time against reserves, while Singler gets more minutes but could be inconsistent.

@reckoner, It might be more of a 50/50 split. You’ll probably see inconsistent results for both of them. I’d take Singler over Stuckey because I want my SG to actually hit 3′s.

      • @James Redacted, Bradley Beal is available on the wire – is he a better bet than either of those two?

@reckoner, He’ll be up and down. I’d lean towards Singler for now.

Do you think Steph Curry and LaMarcus Aldridge’s FG% will rise? They are killing me so far.

@Jeff, Yes, I think Curry and Thompson are both in a slump right now. Not very worried about Aldridge either. Don’t panic.

Someone dropped Carlos Boozer in my 12 team h2h 9cat league and I successfully dropped Stuckey and picked up Boozer. Steal or is there something I’m not seeing?

@Joseph, Looks like someone just got tired of his bad slow start. He’s not what he used to be but he should still be owned.

My12 team is a messs…being offered George Hill, Manu, Ray Allen and DeRozan for my Bargnani and Bynum.

I get that Bynum is a top 10ish player when back – but not sure if i can wait out 4-6 weeks…lost 1-7 last week, will lose 1-7 this week.

    my team now is:
    Cousins
    Grififn
    KG
    Bargnani
    Danny Green
    JRich
    Foye
    Beasley
    Cunningham
    D.West
    Metta World
    R.Brewer
    Tony Allen
    Tristan Thompson
    Bynum

@mindicohn, See if you can counter offer for less players but more quality. If you make the trade you may lose 3-5 each week instead of 1-7, that’s still not good. Who is on the wire? There’s gotta be someone better than MWP and Tony Allen.

      • mindicohn says:
        (link)

@James Redacted, there’s an awful lot of shwag on waivers…its 12 team 14 player roster size +IR…

some of the guys on waivers:
        austin rivers,
        marvin williams
gerald green (who i dropped earlier this week)
        nate robinson
        kyle korver

that said, trying to get the one guy to throw kemba walker in (yes, he’s on the sell in the blog) or maybe even Hickson/Sanders but those aren’t anything exciting….he’s got Durant/LeBron and those two won’t be in play in this deal.

@mindicohn, Based on your team you should be punting assists. Get George Hill and Manu out of the trade. Try trading ONLY Bynum for Ray Allen, Larry Sanders, and JJ Hickson. It’s not a trade I feel great about but you need to be winning Blocks, Reb, and 3′s every team with that team. If you can’t make the deal, I like Marvin Williams and Kyle Korver over Tony Allen and Cunningham (drop these two if you do that trade). I don’t think Cunningham should be owned in general. Good luck.

@Kevin K, Ha! Out of the 3, I’d look to move J.R. first. Ty Lawson, Curry, and Klay Thompson might be ideal targets. Don’t be too itchy with the trigger finger for Kemba, but if you can get a top 30 player for him, do it.

Would you drop Valunciunas or Bradley Beal? Thanks in advance bud.

    • James Redacted

      James Redacted says:

@Eng, Beal seems like the best bet for more consistent playing time. Drop Val unless you need the boards.

      • in_ertiatic says:
        (link)

@James Redacted, I don’t disagree w/ you here, cause Beal is definitely playing more and providing more.

But given TOR injuries and the talk of Bargs playing the 3, isn’t Val a good candidate to hold and see how this shakes out? Maybe I’m blinded by the potential, but he’s been pretty awesome on a per minute basis and if he’s given an expanded role couldn’t he blow up big time?

I’ve been adding him everywhere I can in anticipation of the four games next week.

        • James Redacted

          James Redacted says:

@in_ertiatic, I took the question as who would produce more now. If it was a deep bench or something then I would also hold onto Val.

LOL Ryan Anderson Leading that grp?
what… are. (or whoever wrote that up ) is smoking loool
he should be a whole diff tier if not last in that grp
    sorry.

@James Redacted, remember this. so at the end of the year, we’ll see if u still have him ahead of those player hah

        • James Redacted

          James Redacted says:
          (link)

@Moez, I’d put money on it that he finishes ahead of Lee. As far as Anthony Davis goes… I think Davis will be higher by the end of the year but he gets a slight knock for being an unproved commodity. Bosh is on fire right now but when Wade starts being Wade again, we’ll see a downtick in his numbers. Ryan Anderson has proven that he can provide top 30 value.

@James Redacted, i money bet sounds good.
I would want all those players before Anderson, 100% easy pick lol
also, like the blog said.. Hotter than you realize ..so yes.. I call him hot sure? I wouldnt use that label but w/e..lol thanks though for pointing that out!
he’s way way way overrated and prob will be one of those players that plays for half the league
            watch.
trading him for Davis???? really?? did you see his first game back from inj? have you seen his stat list? what he’s doing with block and boards? hell even points?? yet you can still say anderson?? really? LOL kk w/e u say.

  10. Moez says:
    (link)

Did you watch Mr ANDerson tonight? eeek.
that prob won’t happen to any of those other guys all year

    he’s just….. not…. as good.. :)

in ESPN leagues( u can really see the numbers as a group, you can see how consistent someone is more so than yahoo.. go look at anderson and look at all the holes…so up and down.. I don’t want that on my team and i seem to do pretty well! he’s good, hot and all but.. not up that lvl!

LOl my mistake i thought the game was over when I said that about anderson tonight..! my bad
none theeee lessss! stilll.. c’mon now!
its close i guess but i just dont see him as one of those types, he’s good but.. not a all-star guy.. the others.. are…..

hey whats going on with Spencer Hawes?? should I drop him!? hmm!

    • James Redacted

      James Redacted says:
      (link)

@Moez, Depends on who is available. His low minutes lead to erratic results.

  13. Moez says:
    (link)

lee is way way more consistent. I would for sure draft him before anderson, like im sure many many others would and have and did lolll lee is not healthy, was he last season? hence … its hard to judge.. alll good…

its easy if u look at the its from above, the stats I mean.. yes, last years rank is nice, right this seconds rank is nice… but knowing NBA and whats what helps :) we’ll see how things play out and come back to this my razz friends :D back to league pass!

Should I cut bait with Ilyasova? If so, mullens or Drummond (I’m getting killed on blks, stls Fg%)

    • James Redacted

      James Redacted says:
      (link)

@Jordan, It’s getting to be quittin’ time on Ilyasova and Thomas. I like Thomas but unless some trades happen he’s going to be erratic with his stats. I’d take Ridnour over Thomas. Make the move for Mullens too. He won’t help you in FG% but he has been tearing it up.

Hi, who to play today in H2h points league between Sanders and Ginobli?!
Thanks for all your usefull articles and opinions – much appreciated. You shouldn’t feel you have to defend yourself as they are just opinions so they aren’t wrong. Put Anderson where ever the hell you want him!

    • James Redacted

@Whitey, I can’t believe I’m saying this but I’d play Sanders. Ginobilinjust isn’t getting the minutes. It’s possible that early in the season Popp is keeping the minutes down due to the Olympic basketball. Very frustrating…. Thanks about the ranks. I just like to provide my rationale behind the ranks to help people understand where I’m coming from.

redact….what do y’think about this offer?

    10 team h2h keeper league(PT,REB,AST,STL,BLK,3PTM,FG%,FT%)

I give up Steph Curry and Humphries plus a 14th rd pick for Joe Johnson and a 10th.

also,Jason Thompson actually had another productive game even w/ Cousins back.

do you expect this to continue?

    thnks.

    • James Redacted

@Shawn Kemp’s kids, Steph Curry is worth more than Joe Johnson by himself. So I don’t like that trade at all.

I think Thompson will be up and down all season. Sacramento is a mess.

Hey so I may have made a big mistake and traded Mayo for Walker. But my team is an utter mess and with Lowry out I was low on steals and assists. I just didn’t see mayo maintaining his pace especially with dirk eventually coming back. My team is an utter mess and I need some help:

    Aldridge
    Horford
    Lowry
    Bargs
    Mac Thornton
    Vasquez
    Vucevic (ww)
    Kemba
    Deng
    MKG (ww)
    Derrick favors (ww)
    Ridnour (ww)
    Beale

Hurting in fg%, assists, steals especially.
    Noteworthy people on the ww:
    Chalmers
    Brand
    Bogut
    Stuckey
    Drummond
    Seraphim
    Kidd

Anything suggestions on ww pickups or players I can sell high on? Thanks in advance!

    • James Redacted

      James Redacted says:
      (link)

@Aawsnap, Mayo for Walker is pretty even. Mayo will give you more 3′s. Is this a H2H team? If so, get rid of favors as you don’t need blocks. I like Kidd over Beale and Chalmers is a cheap source of steals and assists if you can take the hit in points (make sure he’s OK first though, day to day right now). That should really help out assists and steals. FG% is going to be a problem all season for you, you’re just going to have to accept it.

Doubt you can sell high on any of your guys listed with a “ww” tag. The best one is MKG but he may be pretty good this season.

    G – Steph Curry
    G – Jrue Holliday
