Klay Thompson was not having a good start to the 2018 season. He had failed to reach the 20-point mark in any of the first seven games and was shooting under 40% from the field and 14% from downtown. Klay is a career 45% shooter from the field and 42% from beyond the arc. Regression hit hard and heavy last night, though.
The third time he has eclipsed the 50-point barrier in his career and the third time he has notched a record: 11 three-pointers during a playoff game (2016), 37 points in a quarter (2016), and the 14 threeecolas last night bested his teammate, Steph Curry, who held the previous record of 13 (2016). Klay has some of the most ridiculous heaters I’ve ever seen. Anyways, for fantasy, he’s currently the 76th player according to Basketball Monster. The minutes are down, assists are down, threeecolas are down, and field goal percentage is down. The only concern would be the minutes and assists, but the shooting will come around. He’s just too good, and reminded us all in a big way last night.
Here’s what else I saw last night:
Andrew Wiggins did not play due a quad contusion.
Anthony Davis did not play due to an elbow injury.
Giannis Antetokounmpo did not play due to a concussion.
Kawhi Leonard did not play due to rest.
A performance befitting a….? That’s why Taurean is a Prince and not a King.
Welcome to Six Flags Magic Mountain. The Trae Young has some of the largest inclines and descents in the roller coaster universe. Enjoy! We know what Trae is, an inefficient shooter, but he is an underrated passer. There were many during the draft process that highlighted his awareness and ability to deliver the ball in a way not many could. Unfortunately, those voices were too few. Anyways, here’s your nightly nutmeg from Trae.
And next to the Trae Young at Six Flags is the Kent Bazemore. Went for 18 last night, 8 the game before, and 32 the game before that. Fun times! Bazemore does have a higher floor than Trae due to his ability to contribute in the D stats. 1.6 steals and 0.6 blocks to go along with 4.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 2 threeecolas ain’t bad.
Played 23 minutes off the bench. Since returning from injury, Dedmon has played 14, 27, and 23 minutes. Dedmon averaged 25 minutes a game last season, and that will probably be his ceiling for this year. Boards with some blocks and a threeecola sprinkled in are what you can expect.
The Lord couldn’t decide whether to taketh or giveth last night. So he did his usual both, contributing across the board while taking some horrific shots.
The Hawks social media account begged the team to not let Embiid be the one to beat them. Hawks social media director has some serious pull within the organization. Don’t fret Embiid owners. He was being double-teamed and the game was a blowout.
Aaaaaallllllmost messed around. Imagine Bruce Lee fighting a swarm of enemies without using his arms. Only legs. That’s Ben Simmons on the basketball court. Granted, Bruce Lee has the capacity to use his arms, but that’s just semantics.
Played 25 minutes. You play Fultz if you think the game will blow out. If you think it will be competitive, you sit him. EZ PZ.
Fultz with a jumpshot. I kid, but the situation is the same. Scroll up two clicks on the mouse and read. EZ PZ.
Played 25 minutes. Pppphhhhhfffff. Just a three-point specialist they said? Hmmmpph.
Played 6 minutes. Ideal game situation for TJ. The team won, he got to play, but didn’t sweat enough to mess up his hair.
Only garnered a 19.1 usage rate and had his first real stinker of the season. In order to appreciate the good, one must experience the bad. Ooohhhmmmmmm.
Inconsistent, both in production and minutes, Allen is a b&b player: blocks and boards. Let’s remember, he’s still only 20 freaking years old.
Played 27 minutes. My favorite Rondae is back! Expect points, boards, and D stats. Y’all ready? Monday. Tuesday. Wednesday. Thursday. Friday. Saturday. Sunday. Rondae!!!
Spencer Dinwiddie and Allen Crabbe both played 25 minutes and look to be settling there. Dinwiddie scored 17 while Crabbe scored 8. Dinwiddie does chip in some dimes while Crabbe is all about the threeecolas. Don’t expect great shooting efficiency from either.
Got the start and played 29 minutes. Not a high-volume or usage player, Vonleh fills up the stat sheet. In two consecutive starts, he’s scored 15 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, dished out 6 dimes, blocked 2, stolen 3, and even drained a threeecola. If you need a big man, add him and see where he takes you.
Played 32 minutes. Is it happening? The D is there, but if he can continue to develop his offensive game, then it’s on.
Tim Hardaway Jr.
He’s the alpha of the Knicks right now and is going to shoot. Then shoot some more. Then keep shooting. Until his arm falls off, but I’m sure will still find a way to get his shot up. Don’t expect the 8 dimes on a regular basis, but he is averaging close to 3 a game.
Played 26 minutes off the bench and still got his double-dub on. That’s six in seven games for those of you keeping score at home.
Did all that in 15 minutes. Kanter is going to limit any ceiling Robinson has.
I love Kuzma. He’s exciting to watch and his skill set is impressive for a man of his size. With that said, he’s not the greatest fantasy asset. Sure, he will score and drain threeecolas, but that’s about it.
Played 36 minutes and had a 27.6 usage rate, which shockingly wasn’t the highest rate on the team. He’s averaging 27.3 points, 9 rebounds, 8.3 assists, and 2 steals per game! LeGood.
Played 25 minutes due to foul trouble, but led the Lakers with a 36.4 usage rate. Dayam. Good to have you back Brandon. Now, don’t go punching anyone.
Played 31 minutes. Remember when I said he probably wouldn’t see more than 20 minutes of run a game? Hey! Look over there. There’s a guy in a spider suit swinging in the sky with webs attached to the clouds.
Played 32 minutes. Rondo is productive when he plays. With Lonzo back, the minutes will be inconsistent, though.
Has cooled off after the blistering start. He wasn’t going to shoot over 50% for the whole season. With that said, he does grab boards and gets his 211 on (2 steals per game!), so the floor is relatively high. The one possible concern is that he only played 24 minutes, after getting 36 and 32 the prior two games. With Ingram back, the 25 minute range may be where he settles.
Now that’s the KAT we all know. Meow. He wasn’t going to be a POS the entire season, but the matchup with McGee didn’t hurt. Do you know who knew? Beep. Boop. Bop. The Stocktonator, of course. It had KAT as it’s #10 player last night.
Got the start and played 30 minutes, as Andrew Wiggins was not able to play. 4 years, $147 million. That is not an Okogie contract. The rookie looks good and has been contributing across the board when given time. Unfortunately, time is going to be tough to come by outside of injuries or rest for other players.
Played 29 minutes. Rose is the guy that knows he’s lost some juice, but channels his inner little engine that could and says, “I think I can. I think I can.” Points, rebounds, and assists, but will tank your field goal percentage.
He’s heating up…..to mediocrity.
Y’all know my love for Luka knows no bounds. It’s going to be fun owning him all year.
All is right with the world, as DJ went 0-for-2 from the charity stripe. Was getting worried I was in a parallel universe for a sec.
Dennis Smith Jr.
Has gone 27-for-49 in his last three games. We’ve been begging for the efficiency for some time now, so it’s great to see. He’s not shooting 55% all year, though. With Luka running the offense and DJ diving to the rim, DSJ should get plenty of open looks. Wish he would contribute more in the periphery cats, though.
Played 40 minutes! 6 steals! I take back what I said about living in a parallel universe. Man, Gay has scored double digits in every game this season and has double-dubbed in three straight. It’s a time to be Gay.
I was wrong. So terribly wrong. I am man enough to admit a mistake. Now, I shall go collect the seppuku knives from my closet and bid adieu.
Played 30 minutes and continues to start at point guard. Forbes ain’t making anyone rich, as he’s not contributing in any of the periphery cats.
Niiikola with the threeecolas. Not the greatest shooting night, but stuffed that stat sheet.
Jahlil Okafor got the start for AD and played 18 minutes. Scored 9 points and grabbed 3 rebounds. He, of course, did not provide the D. I refuse to give him a stat box.
Is usually the guy that balls out when AD doesn’t play, but last night was Mirotic’s day.
Played 27 minutes off the bench. I also faded Randle in the offseason. I guess it’s good that I’m writing this from the afterlife after performing seppuku earlier.
He’s starting to get into a groove, as in….one game good shooting, next game poor shooting, then next game good shooting. I have faith that Millsap will get his shot going more consistently. The nice thing is that when he does have a poor shooting night, he’s still grabbing boards and providing blocks and steals.
Shot poorly, but almost messed around with zero turnovers. Oh, by the way, the Nuggets still won. What a Jokic!
“Be fearful when others are greedy and greedy when others are fearful” – Warren Buffet. That buy-low window for Jamal is sayonara.
I feel like Harris and Khris Middleton are the two most underrated players in fantasy. Am I tripping?
Played 31 minutes and made some critical plays down the stretch. Prior to last night, Beasley had played 11, 19, 11, 11, 8, and 12 minutes. I’d say nothing to see here, but someone to keep in the mental rolodex….just in case.
Played 24 minutes. Has averaged around 25 minutes over the past four games. Is jacking up close to 10 shots per game and has been contributing dimes and steals (back-to-back games with 3 steals).
Was it vintage night yesterday? So many old timers were turning back the clock. Anyways, with Kawhi sitting, Serge said, “Jump on my back fellas. I shall take us to the promised land.” Raptors lost to the Bucks 109-124.
Holy shit balls! I actually got one right! I love Siakam and hope he continues to get the 33 minutes he received last night.
Worst shooting game so far for Lowry. No Kawhi and the Bucks D is really freaking good. But look at the contributions in the periphery cats? Super high floor.
No Giannis? Budenholzer doesn’t break a sweat, as he knows he’s got Ilyasova. Played 24 minutes and led the team in scoring.
You know things are going well when Thon gets 23 minutes of run and puts up 11 & 7.
The Warriors scored 92 points in the first half and led 42. Final score was 149-124 over the Bulls. No blurbs for anyone!
Played 33 minutes. Is the 20th overall player according to Basketball Monster. He does it all. The only things you have to remember are that he plays when the games are competitive and sits during blowouts, which is Marvin Bagley III time.
At least there’s one Willie that’s been freed this season. Cauley-Stein has double-dubbed in three straight games and is doing his best to try and get paid. The 1.2 steals are nice but 0.3 blocks?
Fox has been playing very well and done a great job orchestrating the uptempo offense. The high turnovers and low free throw percentage have been killing his fantasy value, though.
Played 36 minutes. Shooting 50% from the field and 42% from downtown. The 5 rebounds are lovely from the guard position. Regression should be expected, though. He’s a career 44% shooter from the field and 41% from beyond the arc. The career rebound rate is 3.6. Plus, when Bogdan Bogdanovic returns, he may cede some time.
Received around 15 minutes in each of the first three games of the season. Then, he got 29 and 30 minutes and balled out. So, of course, he received 16 minutes last night. <shrug emoji>
A Mt. Whiteside eruption! It would’ve been nice if someone or something warned us. Beep. Boop. Bop. The Stocktonator did, as it had Hassan as it’s #14 player last night.
My RichardSON!!! He always brings the D, which serves him well down in Miami, but if he gets the O going? Use your imagination. Currently a top 50 player according to Basketball Monster.
Plays around 29 minutes a game and averages 8.8 rebounds per.
Only played 18 minutes. Got into early foul trouble then had to watch Zach Collins ball the F out.
Played 27 minutes. Collins is a favorite here at Razzball. He’s a big that hustles, has agility, and can stretch the floor with his J. It looks like he’s ready. Will he get significant minutes?
Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum both had quiet nights, scoring 16 and 17 points respectively. Trail Blazers still won 103-93 over the Pacers.
Caleb “Biggie” Swanigan
Played 19 minutes. He had played a total of 3 minutes prior to last night.
Played 26 minutes and has been leading the second unit. It seems that Stotts is not staggering Dame and CJ as much this year.
Not bad, but not good enough to break out the Oladipo Ho!
Played 36 minutes. I’m not a big Collison fan, but he’s played 36 and 30 minutes in the last two games and dished out 6 dimes in each. He had been averaging around 24 minutes prior.
The disappointment continues but….I will continue to walk 500 Myles. He’s still only 22 years old. I need to copy and paste that for next year.
Played 15 minutes. Averaging 21.2 for the season. Just not getting enough run to make an impact.
Any thoughts on James Johnson. He was recently dropped in our league and was thinking of adding him and replacing Monte Morris.
Also what are your thoughts on my PG lineup:
Rubio (Dropped by another manager)
I’m currently low on REBs but that’s the least of my concerns. Maybe one can go? Any trades in mind that maybe I can get a mid-high skill level for a wing or a big? Big help, Son!
@Jake: JJ is fine, but I wouldn’t expect much from him. PGs look nice. Good Rubio scoop. As for trade targets, no idea man. All dependent upon league context. Send out the scouts
My team : lowry, dinwiddie, SGA, doncic, fournier, redick, hayward, moore, otto, durant, ibaka, embiid & kanter
I got offer my lowry + fournier for kyrie + lou will. Would you trade ?? H2H 9cat 12 teams
@Rick: Would rather have the Lowry side
I’m sure a million people are asking this today,
Monte or Adobo ? (Okobo)
Maybe we can all chime in here at Razzball and set the record straight!
Ready go !
@Mr.Blast: AYO! Okobo for the upside
Even with Canaan saying his ankle is fine ?
Yeah. More upside. It could take time, but Okobo has a chance to be the guy. Morris doesn’t.
Some of my upside picks aren’t panning out just yet and I’m wondering to what extent to be patient (two weeks, two losses for far). Fournier (will he ever get his shot back?), Hart (back to 2nd class status behind Ingram), and Osman (boy, he cooled off quickly) raise the biggest concerns.
Available FAs include: D-Rose, Rondo, Nitilinka, Matthews, Z.Collins, Harrell, Carter Jr. I figure there could be at least one big in my future. Thoughts?
Team in a h2h 9-cat yahoo league
CP3, Conley, J-Rich, Fournier, Hart, LeVert, Kawhi, Osman, Gallo, Randle, Horford
I like Rose, Collins, Harrell, and WCJ. Possibly Ntilikiina. I think Fournier will be fine, Hart won’t get the 30+ minutes anymore. Osman is going to struggle, but will get the minutes and usage
Dinwiddie or SGA as a hold long term? 12-team, 9 cat.
I know Dinwiddie’s potential is capped but he feels safer.
I’m eyeing Zach Collins really hard right now… Cedi is on thin ice, if he still sucks and Zach C somehow again plays meaningful minutes and manages to provide serviceable numbers, man I’m making the switch. By the way, I’m just loving Spencer right now. Fits my team really well. Shoots a decent amount of 3s and making 0.400 of them. Has upside in steals and assists. Turnovers are pretty low, can score, can get to the line and make free throws. Not gonna wow his owners, but for an end of the bench guy, he’s decent. I’m keeping him for now!
Most of the Razzball writers are high on Collins. As for Spencer, if the glove fits, you must acquit! Hmmm, that analogy didn’t pan out the way I wanted, but I think you get the point
I do! Hah
Damn, I hope Cedi puts on a show tonight. I believe in the kid and know that he really has something to special to offer.. It’s just the atrocious shooting! I can’t really stomach it! I’m praying he does well
@I just wanna Kawhi: I believe in him too, but the ride gonna be bumpy. You know you love it!! You need that thrill, so you can Kawhi…from either happiness or despair
@I just wanna Kawhi: Yo! I think we continue to see ZC get minutes in the 18-22 range on most nights. He also will have the occasional 20-27 minute games when Nurk gets in to foul trouble.
ZC is a legitimate rim protector and the offense is legit as well. I’m out here in Rip City and have been paying close attention to ZC and how he is being deployed. I think what we are seeing is real and his contributions should stay in line with what he is doing now.
@OldMilwaukeePounders: Good stuff OMP. Thanks for the insight
@Son: No problem, Son!
In his rookie year Collins took some lumps with fouling too much as well, but he has really cleaned up his defensive bad habits a lot so far in year 2. That being said, he does try to contest a TON of shots, so he could see foul trouble on some nights. ZC is developing nicely and should be a really solid piece in PDX.
To your point about ET; Stotts is hardly giving CJ & Dame separate run at all right now. Turner looks to have a full run of the second squad as long as they remain productive scoring. I really like ET when he doesn’t HAVE to press to score. I think his values a facilitator makes him more interesting, IMO.
@OldMilwaukeePounders: OWP dropping the knowledge!! Love it!
Damn, these are awesome inputs! Thanks man, this helps a lot!!
Could you please rank for lillard, kemba, lowry, oladipo, wall & doncic ??
@Ace: The way you have it except flip flop doncic and wall
hey Son, back again for my daily checkin lol.
Fournier and Mo Bamba were dropped, and SGA, Cedi, P Skills (Siakam) and Okobo are on the wire as well. Would you take any over Hart, Rose, Lou Will, Harrell, Trae Young? If you could have 1, who would you pick (still have an open streaming spot and could make the move tomorrow). Thanks!
@Wutang: Wutang is for the people!!! Always glad to see you in here.
I forgot what your team was and depends on if you need production now or can shoot for upside. Big men are a premium so I’d take a chance on Siakam. Probably drop Lou Will. Okobo probably has the highest ceiling, as it’s within the range of outcomes that he becomes the starter at some point. I’d be patient with Hart and would drop Rose if I had to choose.
@Son: whoops… first time I didn’t put my team in, figured you had it memorized by now!
10-team, unlimited daily moves:
PG: Mike Conley
G: Josh Hart
SF: Otto Porter Jr.
PF: Jonathan Isaac
UTIL: Lou Will
UTIL: JJ Redick
BN: Trey Young
Streaming Noel for the game tonight, and will keep that spot rolling throughout the year I’d imagine. In a league with unlimited moves like this, I like having 2-3 spots where I pick up a new player every night, normally results in tons of counting stats lol
@Wutang: In your league, the more streaming spots, the better. Adams May play tonight
@Son: if he does, I’ll drop Noel for Siakam. I’m gonna give Lou a shot tonight, but definitely looking at cutting ties in the near future (after i send a trade offer to every owner in my league)
@Wutang: Sounds like a plan
Another year and I’m back to the wizard of fantasy advice!
I currently have Jaylen Brown and what do you think…. is he a hold or should I drop him?
My team (9 cats, 10 players):
Larry Nance Jr.
Zach Collins (dropped Sabonis for him, hopes he is worth the hype)
Kris Dunn (IL)
Ha! Appreciate the kind words. I am no wizard, though. That is reserved for Rudy.
Anyways, as with anything add/drop related, it depends who you would drop him for
Got a guy wanting to trade me Kyrie for my Doncic. Crazy right? Or maybe not?
Guy in my league is offering Kyrie for my Doncic. Take it right? Or not so fast?
I’m probably the wrong guy to be asking about anything regarding Doncic! =)
What do you think are some reasonable trades for Towns, how much would you be willing to give up? Like a Turner+whiteside or adding something like covington or taurean prince to those two?
It really depends on the KAT owner. Send out the scouts for price discovery
@The Future is Bright:
I tried Tobias Harris and Nurk for Towns and got completely rejected (the person said he is not interested in trading KAT yet)
@Andy: Doesnt surprise me. Always have to think from their perspective. They spent a high pick on KAT and know his history. If they wanted to sell him, they would’ve sent out offers to the league. Everyone knows that you are trying to buy low. Best thing to do is alway put yourself in their shoes.
What would you consider equal value for Kyrie Irving? I traded Teague+Brogdon for Kyrie+James Johnson thinking I was getting a for-sure second rounder, but now I’m not so sure.
Which of the below would you trade Kyrie for 1 for 1?
Any other ideas for guys to target?
Was thinking of offering Kyrie+Batum for Jrue Holiday+Jamal Murray. Whatcha think of that?
I would’ve made that trade as well. I think Kyrie will be fine, but the ceiling has been lowered for sure.
I’d trade him for any of those guys.
I’m good with that.
As with any trade, value is subjective and every situation, League, and owner is different.
H2H 9 cat: Ntilikina or Tyreke?
