Could there be anyone else in the NBA that everyone can get behind and root for than Jrue Holiday?! At this rate, he needs to run for prez in 2020! And just to make him even more likable, he’s now wearing rec spec goggles. Soooooooo dope! It’s like he’s playing ball underwater! When he hit this stepback, I’m pretty sure I heard him say “you miss me?!” on the game broadcast, but I have a feeling it was my mind playing tricks on me…
Jrue didn’t take any time to shake off the rust, going 21/2/7/1/1 on 8-14 shooting against the Blazers Friday night (including that sexy crossover), then 22/2/9/1/0 on 9-17 shooting against the Hornets on Saturday. 14:4 AST:TO to start it off, shot over 50% both games… Just so awesome! I know what I’m thankful for! And just to make things EVEN MORE awesome, he rewarded Tim Frazier owners who remained patient, by showing they can co-exist. Bi-partisan! 12/3/8 and 17/5/8 for Frazier in those two games, plus the Pelicans won both of them. And they weren’t against cupcakes either, winning at home against the Blazers then the Hornets. Pass the beignets, we got a party goin on! As a Frazier owner in a couple RCLs, I’m going to hang strong until his numbers tell me otherwise. Unfortunately, I’m not a Jrue owner anywhere though… Depressing! But I don’t even care, Jrue is a boss, and if he beats me in some fantasy matchups, I will tip my cap and be rooting for him anyway. You’re my boy, Jrue! Here’s what else went down over the weekend in fantasy hoops:
Brandon Knight – Well, apparently the night is still really dark, because the dawn doesn’t seem that close… 17/0/5 against the Pacers was fine, but 12/2/2 against the Sixers was annoying, almost as annoying as…
Tyler Ulis – … seeing Ulis get guard minutes for Knight owners, on top of Leandro Barbosa still getting out there too. You could say Ulis is “stealing” his way into Earl Watson’s heart! 10/0/2/4/0 on Friday, then doubled-down on quad-steals by going 9/4/5/4/0 Saturday. Hey, Watson was only 6’1 and Ulis is tiny too, midgets be banding together!
Alan Williams – Apparently his nickname is Big Sauce, and he comes out of nowhere to blow up the weekend! 15/15/1/2/1 against the Pacers (Tyson Chandler played in that one too!), then 12/11/0/2/4 against the Sixers with no Tyson. He apparently takes risks on defense which is good for fantasy – not so much in real life – but has a crazy rebounding rate that could maintain. Big Sauce had a Big Summer going 11.8/11.2/1.2/1.2/0.5 – maybe the D stats are a big of a mirage – but if he gets run, the rebounding should be solid. Not to mention the Suns blow, and Tyson should see his minutes dry up as the season wears on.
Nik Stauskas – As our friends at Rotoworld noted, on Saturday we had Big Sauce against Sauce Castillo! And both showed up for this barbecue! 21 points in a pretty empty line, but now 12+ points in the last 6 games, so worth a look if you need some deep league scoring.
Joel Embiid – Speaking of scoring, and EMBIIIIIID can give you the sexiest 20 minutes of your life! 26/7/2/0/2 on 9-14 shooting with 3 treys. Such a full line, so much girth!
Paul George – A sleeper pick to make a deep East run, now the Pacers are just trying to stay healthy. Missed both games of the weekend with a sore kankle. Then…
C.J. Miles – … C.J. went down with what looked like a painful knee hyperextension. Apparently his MRI came back clean, but I expect a good further stretch of DNPs.
Glenn Robinson III – Stepping into the wing void, going 12/10/1 last night as this game headed into OT. It was getting late, I was hoping this would finish, but Russell Westbrook was like “Nooooo!” with a late trey to tie it in the 4th. It doesn’t seem like PG13 will be out too long, but you might get some deeper-league streamability from Baby Big Dog.
Cody Zeller – Had his best game on the young season against the Hawks, going 9-10 FG 23/3/1/2/3. Apparently Dwight Howard got too butthurt every time Zeller said “in your face” and Dwight said “in yours”.
Zeller ended up having to sit Saturday due to his shoulder. I didn’t see Dwight elbow him there!
Marco Belinelli – Went mad spaghetti on the Pels, going 22/10/5 with 7 treys on Saturday night. Italy vs. The French Quarter! Hornets lost a game they shouldn’t have, and I don’t see this changing his status as deep league ThrAGNOF.
Tristan Thompson – I haven’t really mentioned many Cavs yet this year in the Daily Notes, but who taught TT to play defense?! 8/14/2/0/4 against the Pistons on Friday night, getting his blocks total up to 1.8 on the year. Did his offseason jumping jacks!
Klay Thompson – Speaking of Thompsons, look at Klay finally breaking out over the weekend! 28/5/3 against the C’s on Friday, then 29/3/2 against the Bucks, and hitting 8 total treys. Despite the nice run, this is absolutely when you sell. 0 steals/0 blocks in those games, and his season average is right at 20.0 PPG. He’s not getting rebounds, TO are up, D stats are at a career-low. Sell, sell, sell!
Al Horford – Nice to see the Celtics finally healthy, and Horford looked absolutely fine, going 18/11/5/2/3. Add 2 treys, shot 7-12, mmmmm rainbow line! His best night on the year, so if you lucked out and bought low while he recovered from the concussion, you’re feeling pretty good.
Jae Crowder – While Big Al looked Big Awesome, Jae still looked pretty tentative out there. REL bias had me watch a good bit of this game, but thankfully he still contributed with a nice 9/4/0/1/1 line. Just seemed like he was maybe 80-85%, or just timid to really push on that ankle. I’ll be watching them again tonight, so hopefully I’ll have some better news in tomo’s daily notes.
Anthony Davis – When the band aids and rubber bands keep him held together, dude is unbelievable. Goes back-to-back 38 point games on 38/9/6/2/4 and 38/16/2/0/3 lines. And just for good measure, added 2 treys in each game too.
Terrence Jones – Stayed red hot against the Blazers for 15/7/2/2/4 – rainbow it up! – but cooled off for only 7/4/1/1/1 Saturday. If he can split that difference rest of season though, he’s going to be a monster. And as with that intro, all the sudden the Pels look like a mad-appealing fantasy source. Jrue is the glue!
Mason Plumlee – March of dimes! After dropping 7 dimes on Thursday, followed it up with a 13/12/7 line Friday then 7/8/4/1/2 Sunday. Almost at 5 dimes a game this season. Noah-ing it!
Ed Davis – Big Ed is getting bigger minutes lately, going 2/11/2 then 3/6/3/0/2 over the weekend. Gotta love those sub-3.0 point scorers! But can bring you some streaming D stats.
Seth Curry – While I still think he was a must-add due to all the injuries, I think we all see why I’ve been pretty low on his value. Goes 11/4/2 against Memphis on Friday then 13/1/4/2/0 against Orlando on Saturday, with a pair of treys in each. It’s fine, and I’d keep holding. Problem is…
Jonathan Gibson – … Seth got completely outshined by another breakout from over the weekend, Senor Gibson. Gibson averaged 17 PPG in Summer ball after coming back over Stateside playing overseas and averaging 42 points a game in GINA last year. Debuted going 11/4/3/1/0 on Friday, then broke out for a 26/6/3/2/0 line Saturday, hitting 5 treys.
He plays defense, plays hard, but does have some butterfingers, committing 4 TO then 6 TO in those two games. Might be a killer for his value. That said, the Mavs are going absolutely nowhere, their offense is atrocious, and there’s no reason to see what they get outta him. It’s easy to see why he got overlooked until he turned 29 – his 3pt shot is a little funky, he points to his head (?) when he hits threes, and he’s a little undersized, but I always like to root for determination paying off. Undrafted player scoring 26 in his second NBA game at age 29! What a story.
Lucas Nogueira – Bebe had his first baby!
Jusuf Nurkic/Nikola Jokic – Both played pretty well for a change on Friday night, with Jamba Jus going a smoothie 14/1/1/1/0 and Joke going a serious 8/12/2/0/1. I wrote this as the Nugs were about to tip last night, so I’m hoping that if I keep mentioning them, they’ll just show up, like a Kardashian.
Wilson Chandler – Kept it rolling on Friday night as well, putting up 25/10/3 in 36 minutes with 3 treys. Guess his old man, trick hip is feeling fine!
D’Angelo Russell – Got a DNP seemingly out of nowhere with a bad knee Friday, but was able to suit up last night.
DeMarcus Cousins – 38/13/7/3/1 on Friday. He’s like, “Hey Dave, you ain’t getting nothin “small” from me!” But Joerger stuck by his small boy wishes and started Matt Barnes last night, so we’ll see how he does in the morning.
Ty Lawson – Ugh, Dave Joerger deserves to keep losing for this. 18/7/8 for his best line on the season, hitting 7-11 from the field in 36 absurd minutes. Darren Collison still got his 33 minutes and went 16/2/2 in this Friday night game, but playing Lawson more and crossing PG swords isn’t the answer. Hopefully in the late game last night, Colly got more jolly!
Trey Lyles – He’s empty scoring for sure (21/5/0/0/0 2 treys), but I think should still be owned for now in 12ers. Getting starts for the time being, should add a few boards, Boris Diaw looks old and hurt… There’s enough to like.
Clint Capela – Nothing is hotter than the Swiss! 20/8/5/0/1 against the Jazz, giving him 12+ points and a block in 6 of the last 7, and he was on a nice run of FT shooting until 0-2 in that one.
Bismack Biyombo – Might be Capela’s big brother, as both started slow, both are heating up, both get mad blocks, and both can’t hit FT. Biz tore up the terrible Mavericks for 13/10/2/0/3, and actually made some freebies after exactly 50% from the stripe in the 5 games prior, by going 5-7.
Dion Waiters – With all the sexier names there in Miami, maybe neon Dion just needed a little push to finally get some prime time. 16/4/8/0/1 against the Wiz Saturday, giving the Heat back-to-back Ws for the first time this year. Drop the confetti! Waiters is now 19.3/3.5/4.3/1.3/1.3 over his last 4 games. Don’t wait, run to get him if he’s available somehow!
James Johnson – Providing under-the-radar production as well, although it’s more underer the radar as Dion, going 17/3/1/1/2 against the Wiz, and a shocking 11.9/4.9/1.5/0.8/1.3 line with 1.4 treys on 58.3% shooting over the last 8 games. Dem fighting numbers!
John Wall/Bradley Beal – Both put up 34 points, and Wall must be happy Beal is looking like an All-Star, just like he is! Unfortunately, it was yet another loss to the lowly Heat. Neither will be an All-Star at this rate, for the 3-9 Wizturds.
Markieff Morris – Picked up a kankle on Saturday and missed practice yesterday, but said he should be good to go for tonight. I think you can roll him like usual in weeklies, although the Wiz do only have 3 games, which I learned from M@’s work on The 7 Ahead!
Chandler Parsons – God F#&$*@ S##* As$ Balls, ughghghgghgh! Gets a bone bruise in his OTHER knee, which makes me go on a Wolf of Wall Street, profanity-laced tirade. Thankfully I only own him in 2 RCLs with open IL spots, but this flat out blows for non-IL or injury-riddled teams. 10er, no IL? F it, drop him. I’d still hold everywhere else though. So annoyed. The one positive of this is an extra stretch of time for the surgically repaired knee to heal up.
Andrew Harrison – Surprising little game from A-Hair, going 13/4/7 on Saturday night against the Timberpups. Although, this was a blowout, and he hasn’t really done a ton with his minutes.
John Henson – 7/6/0/1/0 as the Bucks hung in there against the Dubs. Only 18 minutes though… that said, the Warriors are a bad matchup for non-stretch centers.
Kyle O’Quinn – Joakim Noah sat out (sniffies), so we got to start our Sunday afternoon with the Knicks rocking out with their KOQ out! The Irishman only got 8/8/0/0/1 in the spot start though, in 17 minutes. KOQ could use some EMBIIIID to teach him more effectiveness in low minutes!
Carmelo Anthony – I don’t think he called bank on this one…
I hope everyone had a great weekend of fantasy hoops, and are looking forward to week 5. Happy Thanksgiving week, Razzball Nation!
