Entering last night’s game, Giannis Antetokounmpo was 131st on Yahoo rankings, mainly due to the high turnovers, low free throw percentage, and lack of threeecolas. Well, Giannis said F U to all the rankings and went HAM last night:
Granted, it was the Knicks but I don’t see many teams being able to slow him down, especially in this Budenholzer offense. He’s averaging a ridonkulous 16.5 rebounds, 25.5 points, 6.4 assists, 1 block, and 1 steal so far. The usage rates for each game have been 41, 38, and 37! The lack of threeecolas have always been an issue, and I don’t see that improving too much this year. The poor free throw shooting should improve, as he’s a career 74% from the charity stripe, and the turnovers should abate by a huge margin. Currently, he’s at 7 per game, while his career rate is 2.5. Ain’t nothing but a G thang, baby! G will be that top 10 player you drafted sooner rather than later.
Here’s what else I saw last night:
The Kemba Label continues to be a hit at Club Borrego, where the lights strobe quickly and the bass is bumping a hundred times a minute. Prior to last night’s game, Kemba was leading the league in shot attempts with 98. He’s leading the Hornets with a 32.9 usage rate. Kemba on the rocks ain’t gonna cool this Hornet down. No sir.
Played 5 minutes. Not a bad gig for $3.6 million a year.
Played 25 minutes off the bench. Nice to see contributions in the periphery cats, but the shooting efficiency continues to be an issue. He’s a nice guy to have at the end of the bench because he’s going to jack up plenty of shots, plays in a fantasy-friendly environment, and there’s serious upside if he gets more minutes.
Lowry’s a top 10 player for fantasy right now. Hollaa! Beep. Boop. Boop. The Stocktonator was all over Lowry last night (not literally), as he was the #4 overall player. Lesson? Pay heed to the Stocktonator. Anyways, Lowry is playing so well right now; shooting, defense, and getting his teammates involved. And there’s the added usage boost when Kawhi sits. Hopefully he stays healthy.
So inconsistent but he is a true 3-and-D player. When he’s not sucking, Green is money from downtown and will provide the D stats. Otherwise, you’re not getting anny. I’ll see myself out now.
Played 20 minutes. In four games so far, JV has played 20, 19, 14, and 20 minutes. He’s tough to rely on but there’s no doubting his production when he does play. He’s more a points and boards guy, but will occassionally step up from JV and produce varsity numbers like last night.
I really want to like Siakam because he oozes with both real-life and fantasy potential. The minutes, though. Like JV, he’s only getting around 20 mpg (21.3 to be exact). I’m a believer in Siakam and a stubborn mule, but I’d understand if you went a different direction.
Wendell Carter Jr.
Got the start and played 32 minutes. This should be his gig the rest of the season. The offensive game may take some time to develop, but the blocks and boards will be there. 4 dimes? With all the black holes on the Bulls, he may end up with the second-most total for the year.
You need dimes that bad? You’s a dime feign. The percentages will be low and the turnovers will be high. Sounds like the strategy for a buffet joint.
Well, shoot. I may turn out to be a donkey on this one, as LaVine is balling like an All-Star. Gotta give a shout out to Brent. Too bad he’s probably busy jerking off to his LaVine poster. Can’t argue the contributions across the board, even providing the D. You’ll take the high turnovers if he can maintain this level. I have my doubts, especially with the efficiency, but I’m not such a stubborn mule that I’d change my stance if I see a trend has developed.
Played 37 minutes after getting 38 the prior game and has reached double figures in all three games. A 3-and-D player, who will drain threeecolas and get his 211 on, I do have my doubts on the efficiency. He’s a career 39% shooter for heavens sake.
There was a time I used to smoke a ton of weed and go play hoops with my buddies. I swear, the basket looked like a hula hoop to me. I’d be clapping and asking for the ball saying, “Yo, I got this. I’m in the zone.” In my mind, I was splashing Js left and right, but I have a sneaky suspicion that wasn’t the case. That’s who Jabari Parker reminds me of, Stoned Son.
That song always makes me happy, as I’m sure DJ owners are seeing that line from him.
Not sexy but….11 threeecolas attempted!!! And played 32 minutes. And is another year removed from his injury. With Doncic, DSJ, and DJ on the court, Wes is going to get plenty of good looks.
Dennis Smith Jr.
You make it into Son’s Recap one of two ways; by balling out or being a buster. My boo unfortunately fell into the latter. The inefficiency is what troubled him last season and it looks like it’s still lingering around. I still believe in DSJ, but the road is going to be a bumpy one.
Only averages 21 mpg, but is dishing out over 10 assists a game. And he jacks up shots. Now, the assist number is obviously going to come down, but he’s still going to be a nice contributer in that category regardless.
Played 6 minutes before leaving the game due to injury.
That’s what I’m talking about Marc! He had been pretty crappy the first two games, but the real Marc finally showed up. May have been a let down spot for the Jazz after that hard-fought, emotional loss to the Warriors the prior game, but whatever. Grit and Grind and Gasol.
I’ve been high on Conley since the preseason and think he has a very nice year. Will contribute in everything but blocks.
So why did Memphis sign Mr. Anderson to a 4-year, $37 million contract again? He played 21 minutes and should not be on rosters outside of the deepest of leagues.
Ingles shot like an average Joe, but he maintains a high floor due to contributions in the periphery categories. Going into last night’s game, Jingles was the #3 player in all of fantasy.
Rudy! Rudy! Rudy! Was the 19th player in fantasy before last night’s game. Such a beast. Will be elite in FG%, rebounds, and blocks.
Like I said, I’m chalking up the poor performances to the hangover from the Golden State loss.
I feel like I’ve walked 500 Myles for Turner, but man….it’s getting difficult. Played 26 minutes and didn’t do much. Maybe I need to buy some new shoes?
Led the team with 36 minutes and tied for the high in points. Bojan is a good defender, so he will usually see a lot of court time. He can shoot and will go on a heater from time to time, but if you keep expectations low, then you’ll be fine.
I got a lot wrong this year, but I feel good about my call on Collison. He sucks and Cory Joseph is there to siphon some of his minutes. Now that I think about it, I’m the worst. Taking victory laps 4 games into the season over Darren Freaking Collison. My seppuku knives have been sharpened and I will see you guys in the afterlife. Arigato.
Only played 15 minutes. No foul trouble. So strange. He had been averaging around 23 minutes and 11 field goal attempts, so I’ll brush it off as an outlier game. I like Tyreke, as he will contribute threes, boards, assists, and steals. Unfortunately, any kind of ceiling is capped due to the limited number of minutes he will get.
The double-dub leader last season with 68, KAT finally notched his first of the season. Meow.
Only played 8 minutes due to injury, a quad contusion that’s been labeled day-to-day. I’d check on Brent to see if he’s ok, but he’s still probably jerking off to his LaVine poster.
Played 27 minutes and….
Dayam! Rose isn’t the most efficient shooter, but he’s getting minutes and contributing across the board. I felt dirty picking him up a few days ago, but whatever. I’ve done worse.
The rookie played 24 minutes and looked good. He got run primarily due to the Wiggins injury, but he did get the start the other night when Jimmy Butler sat. Rose is probably the better pick up between the two if you had to get down and dirty, but Okogie is someone to keep an eye on.
Yuck. Played 35 minutes, though, and the environment is fantasy-friendly. I like T & A, but TA is messing up the picture.
He is the truth. Will perform his big man duties, but doesn’t stop there. 5 dimes and 8-for-8 from the line? Lovely. Ayton has a nice face up game and can drill the mid-range J. Oh, he plays in one of the fantasy-friendly environments out there.
9 turnovers! No bueno, but the rest of the line is juicy. DA and DB are going to have fun pursuing that C.
Played 19 minutes. Why? So that Isaiah Canaan can play 26 minutes and shoot 3-for-8? Doesn’t a Booker/Jackson backcourt make more sense?
Ahhhhhh, it’s been a while since I’ve been able to post that. Always hits the spot. Thanks TJ. I forgot to mention that he did all that in 24 minutes. Granted, the Suns got blown out by 20 but stats are stats.
Draymond has been…..booty. Going into last night’s game, he wasn’t even in the top 200 for Yahoo and is 135 according to Basketball Monster. He’s not shooting and it’s not like he’s not getting good looks. He’s turning down or hesitating on wide open ones. With that said, I’ll side with the body of work over his career rather than go crazy over a four-game sample. If you can somehow pry Green away from an owner for cheap, then more power to you because he’s more than likely going to end up as a top 40-50 player when it’s all said and done….like he has for his entire career.
Kevin Durant amazing. Steph Curry awesome. Blah blah blah.
Played 21 minutes. Jerebko is the blowout indicator, although he did hit the game winner against the Jazz two games ago. That’s cool of Kerr to let him get his REVENGE!!! Arrrggghhhhh.
The Wizards/Trail Blazers game went to OT, so many of the stats are inflated. For Morris, he did all his damage in 25 minutes. And he was in foul trouble. What a boss. Now, Morris does this once or twice a month so that you actually have to contemplate using him, but don’t do it to yourself.
Otto Porter Jr.
Metric-whore my ass!
Played 43 minutes. Craig was all over Beal in the preseason. Mazel tov my British compadre!
Kelly Oubre Jr.
Played 39 minutes and is the main guy off the bench for the Wizards. Points, rebounds, and threeecolas, but not much else.
Aminu is one of those guys that’s perfect for the end of the bench, outside of a streaming spot. He starts, plays a ton of minutes, can hit the threeecola, and provide rebounds.
Nurkic is so skilled, yet so inconsistent. He has the ability to go HAM every night, but doesn’t. That makes me sad.
Didn’t shoot well, yet still ends up with 29 and almost messed around. 13-for-15 from the charity stripe! Y’all know what time it is….
Sorry. I can never resist.
Played 30 minutes. Won’t always get the minutes, but when he does, will get his shots up and convert. A really good shooter, especially from downtown.
A double-dub machine. Imagine if he could play D? Anyways, currently tied for the lead in double-dubs with 4. He’s played 4 games. Last season, he finished with 39. Me thinks he crushes that number.
Only played 22 minutes, but he’s averaging 27 on the season. Burke starts, will jack up his shots, grab a good number of boards for a guard, dish out some dimes, and get his 211 on.
Tim Hardaway Jr.
Is averaging 28 points and 22.7 shot attempts a game! Also 2 steals a game, but don’t expect much else.
Only played 19 minutes and is averaging 16.7 so far on the season. The points are inconsistent but he’s getting his board on. Don’t expect much else, though.
Did not start, but played 30 minutes off the bench. Super Mario was the main beneficiary of the injury to Kevin Knox, who is out for at least a couple of weeks.
Played 32 minutes and benefitted from the injuries to Courtney Lee, Emmanuel Mudiay, and Knox. The second-year player had a 30 & 10 game at the end of last season, so he has the capacity to fill up the sheet. Someone to keep an eye on if those aformentioned continue to sit.
So silky smooth, Middleton is one of the underrated players in the NBA. With his YMCA game, he’s going to be dominating whatever court he’s on well into his 60s.
#22 on Yahoo and #12 on Basketball Monster. Bledsoe is a freaking beast and the Budenholzer offense is going to unleash him on the rest of the league.
Played 26 minutes. I was getting a little worried there for a bit, but I held strong. Whew. I BELIEVE!
So good, as he can score from inside and out. He was also one of only a handful of players to be in the elusive 1/1/1 club last season (3pts, steals, and blocks). Currently, a top 15 player and should remain there barring health.
Played 30 minutes. Shot like shit, but provided those dimes that you rostered him for. Not sexy but gets the job done.
Known more for his shooting ability, the 10 dimes were nice. Just don’t expect that to be a regular thing.
Got the start and played 31 minutes. Remember when I said Brown could be Kawhi 2.0? Hey look over there! A UFO!
Played 34 minutes. I’ve seen a lot of people trading away Kyrie. He may lose some usage, but he’s still gonna get his. The ceiling may be lowered just a tad bit, though.
Even Statham and Channing had their bombs.
This game also went to OT. Played 40 minutes. No one is LMAO now.
Remember when I faded DD during the preseason? Hey! Look over there. A woman with DDs!
DNP. Dante Cunningham got the start and played 29 minutes. I think that’s all you need to know about Poeltl.
Got the start with all the suspensions and led the Lakers in scoring. Kuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuz.
Played 28 minutes. Is fantasy viable due to the environment and his play, but normally won’t get much more than 20 minutes.
Got the start and played 33 minutes. No more restrictions and should get over 30 minutes a game, even when Rondo returns. Will be a nightly triple-dub threat and his shot from downtown looks to be improved.
I Hart Josh. Played 39 minutes even though he came off the bench. Dude is so solid, as he contributes across the board. A good real life and fantasy player.
