Well, there’s certainly been no lack of news this past week!  No fantasy sport is safe from injuries, even in the preseason!  Well, maybe fantasy fishing (yes, I’ve played it!).

As reported everywhere, even on tweens.com (I hope that’s not a real site and/or not an illegal site!  Not gonna find out in my web history!), Kevin Durant has a broken bone in his foot, and the initial timetable in 6-8 weeks.  But of course given it’s KD, and we’re nearing the home stretch of the fantasy drafting window, there’s all sorts of shrouds of uncertainty.  First there’s surgery vs. non-surgery, which I’m guessing the latter involves rum and Jobu, but I’m no voodoo.  Despite my limited knowledge on Jones fractures, I am hoping he opts for the surgery.  If he doesn’t get it, it seems like Durant is playing with fire.  We saw the Thunder bring back Westbrook earlier than expected last year with his knee issues, then he suffered re-injury (of course, causation is merely speculative).  Which leads to point number two – either way you look at it surgery vs. non-surgery, Jones fractures are all sorts of tricky.  Lingering issues, re-injuring it, it’s all up in the air. My perspective is Durantula has been healthy for virtually his whole career, spanning 7 seasons.  So I’m optimistic he can be a fast healer, and splitting the difference of 6-8 weeks to 7 weeks out.  Given when news broke, that’s missing just over a month of the regular season.

In my re-ranks I published yesterday, I only moved KD down to 2 with Anthony Davis up to #1 (side note – found this article with NBA MVP odds, how can I hop in on this?!  Brow 25/1?!  I’ll throw $10 on him to win $250!).  In H2H, if you’re a confident manager, you can stream and bear a .500 record for a month.  Then you have KD for the playoffs!  I think if you try to sell right now in a panic if you’ve already drafted, or let him fall too far in your draft, you’ll be kicking yourself in the postseason.  All that said, in Roto, I’m probably letting him fall until at least the middle of the first round.  Having by far the best per-game player for the fantasy playoffs weeks obviously doesn’t matter.  Hopefully by early next week there’s a little more clarity on Durant, and I’ll have one final rankings revision next Wednesday.  Here’s what else has gone down in fantasy hoops since the last wrap-up (which will be daily during the season!):

Anthony Davis 26/8/0/1/4 shooting 9-11 FG and 8-10 FT.  Mmmmmmmm.  It’s like he dedicated last night’s preseason game against the Rockets to Razzball’s re-ranks.

Russell Westbrook Moved him up from 10 to 8.  Nothing too drastic, the big debate is John Wall or RW.  Slim did an awesome in-depth look at this two against each other, and said on yesterday’s Pod he’s still going Wall.  It’s just enough time without KD to make me flip the script and flip-flop (double flipping, is that like a double negative?) Westbrook ahead of Wall now.  While you obviously get huge scoring and theoretically a boatload of assists (12 last night against a Mike Conley-less Grizzlies = dimebag dozen!), his FG% and TO are going to brutal some weeks (7 TO in that game).

Bradley Beal Broke his wrist, and will miss a little less than the first month of the season if his timetable holds true.  Wall gets a mini-boost like Westbrook with increased importance to his team, but Beal ain’t Durant!  Don’t think Wall will have to press as much and the TO are about as bad anyway.  Probably filling in is Glen Rice Jr., who after a huge Summer League looked good in his debut to preseason (18 Pts, 3 treys).  But since then has done a whole lot of nothing in three subsequent games, capped off with a 2/0/0/0/1 line shooting 1-6 in 22 minutes as the starter Monday.  It’s preseason, sure, but Otto Porter is looking more and more saucy.  He’s a little big for a SG (6’8″), but I think they could slot him there at times.  13/6 in that same preseason game on Monday night, and played aggressive with 6-10 FT.  I don’t have Rice Jr. ranked, he’s going to be a very empty ThrAGNOF, but with Paul Pierce as old as the peach buckets Dr. Naismith used to invent basketball, Porter is going to get a lot of run (helps he had a dynamite Summer League performance as well – first-team selection).  Shooting up my ranks.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope Razzball Nation!  Start the KCP chant!  Well, sorta.  Jodie Meeks went from seemingly non-threatening back spasms to missing AT LEAST the next two months with a stress reaction.  Nice spending, Detroit!  Can Obama bail out the Pistons?  Anyway, this all but assures KCP a starting gig and Meeks is out of my top 200 and droppable in all leagues.  BUT!  KCP is ailing with a knee strain himself.  And even in a big starting role, KCP really only brings you 3s/Pts/Stls/very low TO.  I’m not sure exactly what this will do to KCP’s ADP (acronym overload!), but he’s still one spot behind Rodney Stuckey (who I like a ton) for me.  Both just out of the top 100.  Still should price me into getting KCP in a lot of remaining drafts.

Reggie Jackson Dealing with a bruised wrist, and sat out last night’s preseason game.  Reportedly bruised his wrist when he was massaging Durant’s feet, and the foot oil made his wrist slip, breaking Durant’s foot for a harsh wrist-on-footbone accident.  RJax should be back in preseason action in another game or two, I moved him up to 85 with no Durant.

Steven Adams Fueled by the haka ritual!  9-11 FG last night for 22/6/1/1/1 in only 21 minutes.  Butttttt, no Marc Gasol on D.  Still, having a pretty ridiculous preseason, shooting 25-28 from the field in three games and averaging 2 steals and 2 blocks a game.  The moral of this story is if you draft him and he starts slow, send him a tweet being ignorant of his rituals.

Jeremy Lamb Another Thunderite having a pretty unreal preseason, capped off by 23/6/4 last night.  He’s always had some pretty good tools, especially a nice rack.  As in, good at driving to the rack!  I mean, like a rack of lamb joke!  Ahhhhh!  This Thunder turmoil is destroying my brain cells more than senior year of college!

Ty Lawson – There’s been a lot of concern about Ty’s poor ol’ Ank’s, but hey, he’s still playing in the preseason!  Sure wouldn’t be if it was that big an issue…  Got 7 dimes in 24 minutes against the Bulls Monday – think he’ll be fine.

Rudy Gobert Holy elbow!  11/20, and despite getting no blocks did register 2 steals Monday night against the Clips.  Meanwhile, awful Enes Kanter played 19 minutes, shot 2-9, and had only 3 rebounds.  Frenchy doesn’t need big minutes to be useful!

Dante Exum Played 22 minutes as well.  And did about the polar opposite!  8 turnovers and nothing else that good.  Aussie doesn’t need big minutes to rack up TOs!

Terrence Jones – Seems like rankers everywhere are catching up with Razzball!  Lines like Monday night’s 18/7/2/3/1 with nary a TO in 27:34 isn’t going to help me get him as a sleeper!  But disappearing in 18 minutes like he did last night will!  Preseason is meaningless… Like how Adam Silver is making a preseason game 44 minutes just to see what it’s like.  Next thing you know, the NBA is using the court from SlamBall, or use the MTV Rock N’ Jock system of two baskets with one 15 feet high.  Gimme a break, Silver!

Kemba Walker Bruised his knee, but doesn’t sound serious.  In other news, he better be OK because Brian Roberts is terrible!  Go Hornets!

Elfrid Payton Got 31 minutes in a start Monday, and got lots of stats on his shelfrid!  Eh, a stretch there… 14/6/5/1/0, hit a trey, but it comes with the bad – 5 TOs and 1-3 FT.  Those are gonna eat into his value.  8/5/5 the game before, only 1 TO in that one which is purdy, but 0-2 FT.  Luke Ridnour wins the “scrub quote of the week” award by saying Elfrid on the Shelfrid is “beyond his years” at PG.  White Chocolate is a better PG than you at 38, Ridnour!

Tobias Harris Looking really good this preseason, in a sneaky way.  I moved him up to 95 in my ranks, and as I mention there, I think the sour taste of bad-ankle-itis that ruined his first half of 13-14 is still lingering.  Plus Channing Frye is still hurt with his sprained MCL, and is like, 67 -years-old. Harris has shot 50% or better every game this preseason with 14 or more points.  Chipping in boards, mix in a steal and a block, and baby you got a stew goin’!

Andre Iguodala 8 assists leading the 2nd unit on Monday night.  When will the Warriors official-ize this?!  Shaun Livingston is still recovering from a bad toe, and Iggy needs to facilitate to the second unit.  And Draymond Green needs to start!

Jameer Nelson – Dimebag alert!  In 25 minutes racked up 10 dimes on Monday.  Raymond Felton slipped on a banana peel, and has a high ankle sprain.  I know what you’re thinking.  “Why the hell was Felton near healthy food?!”  It was at Ben & Jerry’s for a banana split OK!  And he ordered it holding the banana!  High ankle sprains can linger in a bad way, especially for NBA players with the body type of Fat Albert, so hey, hey, hey! to the top 100, Jameer!

Greg Monroe On Sunday against the Wizards, went 17/10/1/2/1.  Gives Monroe two monster preseason games sandwiched with a 10/9 performance in-between.  Interesting; he might be playing with some fire after he went all Gone Gone Chasin’ Waterfalls at the Detroit PD…

Marcus Smart Still looks bad.  5/1/1/2/0 with 4 TOs and 1-5 FG (all from behind the arc) in his last game on Saturday.  Weird.  Friday the game before, 1-8 FG 1-7 3PTM.  Did get 7 assists to 3 TO, but 4-8 FT in that one.  Stevens is like “aight Marcus, only shoot 3s.  It might make you put up awful stats across the board to try to be a player you’re not, but what the hell, I’m gettin’ paid more than bein’ at Butler!”

Mario Chalmers – Missed again last night with a hip pointer.  Here’s a pointer!  Don’t draft Chalmers.  Norris Cole had started the last two preseason games anyway, and while Cole is the furthest thing from interesting, it’s a backcourt I want nothing to do with.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Deep league alert!  Gerald Henderson has a hurt hammy that could linger right until opening night, and is really an unnecessary guy to start for the Hornets.  Kemba/Stephenson/Marvin Williams/Al Jefferson can all score (well, Marvin can camp behind the arc and hit a trey), so offense-only Hendo (and barely at that!) makes no sense to start.  I think MKG is going to surprise.  Near rainbow on Monday (14/4/1/2/3) and while his shot is still awful, can rack up the defensive stats on the starting 5.

Ramon Sessions – He’s good in China!  18/3/4 in an exhibition against the Nets in Shanghai in 30 minutes.  Darren Collison was fine too, with an eerily similar 15/3/4.  Coexisting feels so nice!  Confucius say, “JB move Nik Stauskas down!”

Kevin Love Playing great, capped off with 25 Pts last night, but LeBron James sat and I still worry about Love’s overall volume on the Eastern All-Star, I mean Cavs team.

Giannis Antetokounmpo As reported by Slim on the Pod yesterday, started at PG last night… And was… Dreadful.  0-5 FG and racked up 5 fouls in 23 minutes playing defense against… Matthew Dellavadova?  A snowman could play better D!  Brandon Knight and Kendall Marshall both sat out, so I think the Antetok experiment at PG is now over.

John Henson 24 minutes off the bench shooting 6-8, 13/6 with 2 blocks.  Has 2 blocks in three of four preseason games thus far, but it is worth noting he had 4 TO yesterday.  Larry Sanders sat this one out, so it sucks to see Henson still come off the pine for a walking totem pole like Zaza Pachulia.  Not going to alter any ranks yet though, still a Henson puppetaholic.

Nerlens Noel Captain N!  Huge game against the Knicks last night for 12/11/3/4/1, shooting a great 6-8 from the stripe.  Four steals?!  There hasn’t been that much theft the Oceans crew broke up!

Michael Carter-Williams There’s still a big disconnect with his surgically repaired shoulder and when he’ll be ready.  He says he feels 100% and would’ve been playing had it been the regular season weeks ago.  But the medical staff is cock blocking him like a chick’s ugly friend!  I’m still one of the highest on him, and just crossing my fingers they’re playing it cautious for now so he’s 100% healthy 95% of the year.  0% worried about the news they tried to trade him – the Sixers try and trade everyone!  45% worried I used too many percentages in the past few sentences.

Al Horford Welcome to the hardwood!  Which may be more related to my relief than you may think… Since I have him ranked so erectly ya know… 11 minutes of really nothing.  But good to see him out there!

Paul Millsap 23/5/2/1/1 shooting 9-14 with only 1 TO last night.  Beast.

James Ennis Only got 19 minutes against the Hawks, and only shot 3-9 for 10 points.  But this guy always finds a way to impress!  5 steals!  Count em!  Five!  In 19 minutes!  Gave the Hawks bird flu.  Hit a couple treys too.  Ennis should be a deep sleeper for you.  You’re my boy, Blue!

Jrue Holiday Speaking of rhymes with Blue, Jrue almost posted a rainbow last night in 18 minutes!  14/1/4/2/2 with two treys.  This sleeper PG is looking better for me than MCW!

Austin Rivers Played 30:30 off the bench while Russ Smith, who the Pelicans claimed had won the backup PG role, played under 4 minutes.  Rivers hit some cats (7/6/4/1/0), but only took 2 shots and had 3 TOs.  Pretty boring.  There goes my Russ Smith call though…

We’ll do another preseason wrap-up early next week, then we’re into daily updates as the season starts October 29th!  May your final drafts go well, and thanks for reading!

JB- love the Rock n Jock reference! Bill Bellamy has been practicing his 10-pointers and is eagerly awaiting a call from the Commish!

Seriously can’t stand Silver (aka Dean Pelton from Community), How can you respect anyone that makes decisions based on perceived public opinion 100 percent of the time. (Not defending Sterling here, that guy is a classless asshat who got what was coming to him).

Nice podcast yesterday btw- love to hear your take on High as Greg Kite’s chances for a repeat in the RCL!

@High as Greg Kite: We’ve got another podcast today, we’ll talk about it. It’s a different strategy than I like to take but it looks like it worked out well. I was very much paying attention to your picks, the target is squarely on your back!

@High as Greg Kite: Cool, Slim has you his arch enemy! No way RCL is gonna let there be a repeat champion!

Yeah those Rock n Jocks were hilarious. Looks so much like the Dean! He probably has a crush on LeBron just like Joel McHale. Thanks for listenin!

razzup guys?! just did a mock, what do you think of the new ranks of yahoo? where can we find great values?

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

      @MAC: At first glance.

In the top 50… Ibaka, Dragic.
In the top 100… Jrue, MCW, Wiggins, IT2
In the top 150… Collison @111?!?!, Elfrid, Knight, Henson, Asik, Ross
Outside of the top 150… Stuckey, McDaniels, Hawes, KCP!!!, Miles, Steven Adams, Gobert

I’m really surprised how many PGs are on this list.

      • MAC says:
        (link)

        @Slim:
tnx! i guess enough tym to mock with 4 days before our draft with this new rankings. cmon yahoo, just ruined my sleeper pick of terrence reggie and kieff

      • MAC says:
        (link)

        @Slim:
does strategy change? like still have to prioritize getting 2 or 3 pg in the first 4-6 rounds? with quality pgs in the late rounds. as i see it, getting 2 pg in the first 4 rounds, with 2 bigs, then getting a wing in the 5th then another big is the way to go.

        • Slim

          Slim says:
          (link)

@MAC: It could work. Alot depends on how many assists you can get form your 5th round wing. If you are vs inexperienced players using predraft ranks it should work just fine. In an RCL, I wouldn’t risk losing out on the early PG runs and then watch all the lower ranked PGs get swooped up ahead of the rankings and before you get your chance. If you try to rely on IT2 or Collison being around at 100 you could really be playing with fire.

    • CTMN says:
      (link)

@MAC: I haven’t seen it yet but I hope it doesn’t ruin too many sleepers…

      • Slim

        Slim says:
        (link)

@CTMN: It does… Markieff, TJones @ 74-80. Reggie Jackson in the 80s. Some of these teams we’ve seen have been insane though. Like your team we talked about on the pod yesterday. That team wont happen with Yahoos new ranks.

        • MAC says:
          (link)

          @Slim:
definitely. was getting reggie as my pg4. with the new rankings, thats not gonna happen.

        • CTMN says:
          (link)

@CTMN: @Slim: Yeah that’s why IMO there shouldn’t be yahoo/espn rankings. Have it alphabetical or something, you have to find your own guys. It might screw up people who don’t care that much, but it really just forces you to make your own rankings or at least ideas. Or just use Razzball’s!

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@CTMN: Yup, use ours for the draft!

@MAC: @Slim: My thoughts – KD to 16 in H2H leagues is silly. I guess they’re trying to appease all formats. Feel confident with him 2 in H2H ranks. Obviously much lower in Roto. Dragic down to 37, wasn’t he top 25 before? Noel down to 61 after top 50 before. Holiday 55 is still way too low.

Kieff up to 74. Wow. TJones to 81. He was out of the top 125 I think first time through! Whoa, IT2 to 99! Great value there. Draymond up to 101. He was out of the top 150 I’m sure of it. Annoyed they are stealing our thoughts!

Knight and Elfrid stick out like Slim said, 122 for Knight?! And yeah, Stuckey 151 and KCP 196. Wow. Sessions 224!!!!!!!! I mean, he’s not gonna carry a team, but I think he should be owned in most 12ers

  3. CTMN says:
    (link)

Oh yeah, that Davis game reallly has me thinking about just taking him #1. It seems like the offer I had (picks 8/17/56 for picks 1/48/96) isn’t really there (maybe he was never gonna do it anyway). I think either I pick LeBron for the trade value, I pick AD and build off him…or I might be able to get #12 and 13 overall for my #1 and last round pick (169 overall).

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@CTMN: Yep, I’d take Davis #1 if given the option. But… I think I would take #12/#13. It’s tough cause you don’t know who will be there but Wall/Westbrook plus Ibaka/Cousins is a trade I would take for the Brow everytime.

      • CTMN says:
        (link)

@Slim: Yeah the potential for getting Wall and Ibaka (who I’m sure will be there in my league) is too good. But the new yahoo ranks screwed me up! This is why I wanted the draft to be earlier but my league didn’t listen…I was getting guys like Markieff at like 96. Now he’s ranked 74. That’s not even a sleeper. Westbrook at 6 will guarantee he doesn’t fall like before. Wall at 10 instead of 12 could make a big difference. Durant at 16??? I may have to get him at 13 if possible. Millsap and Horford moved to 24/25 which sucks, but at least Lowry moved down to 23. Bosh moved too high to 20. Marc Gasol went from 44 to 28 (so much for that). Lawson is now at 34 but the latest I can pick him is 25 anyway. Favors moved way up from 65 to 52, so much for that steal. There are still some good values but it’s really killing me that I didn’t have my main draft before this.

        • CTMN says:
          (link)

@CTMN: oh yeah and Reggie Jackson at 83 – so much for grabbing him at 137! Wtf! I’m never gonna get T-Jones or Markieff now 🙁

          • Slim

            Slim says:
            (link)

@CTMN: hehe. I didnt see this and we brought up the same 3 guys.

@dan-o1: The last guy on a team is just as important as the 1st. For the question, unequivocally YES. Stauskus is contending with an extra guard in Sessions while KCP has almost no competition anymore. Even in equal minutes i’d take KCP for the steals upside.

Hi. I’m playing 9 CAT H2H. First time in H2H, coming off as a champion from ROTO last year, what should I expect in H2H? Should I change my strategy?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@John: A little bit, yes. A guy like Durant who you miss a chunk of falls way down in roto, but to have him for the fantasy playoffs is huge. Cavs have a bad fantasy playoffs, I’m avoiding Love and LeBron in the first round most likely.

In H2H, you can have more fluctuations with FT% as the big one. In roto, if you have Dwight and someone else bad, it’s really hard to recoup a 1 in FT with being good in all the other cats. In H2H, it’s not as big a deal, but I still don’t like to punt categories. Also in H2H, it’s easy to stream categories you need at the end of the week rather than streaming in Roto as it can hurt your TO. So my theory of “ThrAGNOF” (threes ain’t got no face) is to stream threes when you need them and don’t draft them. In Roto, you need the 3-point guys. So I pass on Klay for example. Hope that helps!

  6. John says:
    (link)

In a 9 CAT H2H, I got Wall, Beverley, Holiday, Lin, Payton, Beal, Parsons, Tobias, Jeff Green, Drummond, Blake Griffin, Marc Gasol, Tristan Thompson, Jordan Hill, and Pekovic. What do you think of my roster? What cat/s are my weaknesses? And should I do Blake for Melo / Blake for Al Jeff? Thanks

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@John: First, yeah I’d trade Blake for either of those guys. Boards look great so I would do it for Melo if he’ll do it!

Sucks you lost Beal for a bit. Love the PG depth! Actually trading Blake is almost a must, will really help your struggling FT% since you have Drummo and Payton.

TO is a weakness, but doesn’t bother me since you’re strong everywhere else except FT% like I mentioned. Everything else looks good!

    1- Chris Paul
    2- Kyrie Irving
    3- Vucevic
    4- Oladipo
    5- Gortat
    6- Knight
    7- George Hill
    8- Tobias Harris
    9- Draymond Green
10- Reggie Jackson (got him pre-KD injury)
    11- Gorgui Dieng
    12- Andrea Bargnani

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Avant Guards: Haha awesome commenter name!

Very loaded on PG. Vuc/Gortat is awesome since you def need Reb volume. Think you’re a tad light there and very light on blocks. Given your awesome PG early, I might’ve gone bigs over Knight and Hill. And you fell into RJax! But no way you could’ve known that. In 14 teams, you almost certainly have the best PG depth. I would go to an owner needing PG and move either Knight or Hill for a big. Love Dieng late to help with your needs.

Great %s and low TOs too given your bevvy of PG. Nice draft! Esp. for 14 teams!

        @JB Gilpin:
Follow up question: Should I trade CP3 for Durant? The Durant owner’s team was autopicked (and sucks) so he’s concerned with even making playoffs. My team is what you see (one of the best in the league in my opinion) so I could likely weather the storm while Durant is out. Thoughts?

@Avant Guards: Yes, I’d definitely do it! I am 70% sure I’m moving Durant from 2 to 3 and that’s it. In H2H, if you feel good with your team like you do, you’d become a favorite for playoffs

Hey guys! Been doing fantasy baseball for a few years now but this would me my first fantasy basketball draft.

Are there any tips/rule of thumb for drafting? (For example, any positions I load up on early on/positions I can punt?)

    Thanks!

@SamYo: Hey man! Welcome to hoops! I guess first question is what’s your format, H2H or Roto?

        @JB Gilpin:

I’m planning to join one of those standard yahoo roto leagues.

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@SamYo: Gotcha, so for Roto, I avoid the bad FT shooters. If you get even two of those guys, particularly high-volume-FT Dwight Howard, it’s really hard to be so good in the other categories to have a 1 or 2 in FT.

I am probably avoiding Durant, but mid-to-late second round is fine. He’s much better to stash for H2H since he will help in the fantasy playoffs.

Any of the other bad %s/bad TO guys are ones to really ignore since their week-to-week ebbs and flows you can’t cover up. Brandon Jennings and Josh Smith come to mind.

I try to load up on good PG. I might avoid Westbrook though bc the turnovers. More % friendly ones like Dragic, or later, Calderon. Both aren’t terrible at TO and have good %s.

          Hope that helps!

Oh your Arrested references always make me smile! As do your foot massage anecdotes.

So, steve Kerr coming out and saying Barnes is his starting 3 with iggy coming off the pine.. And now took of draymond. What the hell is going on? In a previous post I was going to switch RJax with draymond off the wire, but surely that’s now a stretch right? And giannis being my only SF in my h2h league has me a little worried. I’m as high on his raw ability as much as you guys but he’s been near dreadful in preseason with no defined role. Surely if I’m dropping anyone it shoul be him no? I was even looking at someone like Korver, who’ll at least get the mins, threes, pts, and 4s in assists and brds. My pts league is heavily geared towards d stats and o brds and assists, which is why giannis or draymond fit better.. But not if they’re not on the court 🙁 suggestions please and keep up the great great work. Y’all make my day each time I see a new pod up ha!

@Lasandro: Haha thanks man! Oh, love Carl W….

Wooooooo! What I expected for Draymond all along. He’s had some good preseason games 12/8/2/1/2 with two treys in the opener! Hitting a ton of categories! I know yours is points though, but think he’s doing better than RJax. I think I remember that 3s are only worth 1 pt right? So yeah, in that format, I’ll stick with Giannis and Draymond over Korver and RJax.

Thanks man! Yeah 2 more (Tues/Wed) next week, then 3 a week in the season! (Tu, W, Thur). We’re pumped!

    • Lasandro says:

@jb Gilpin: oh I just realised autocorrect butchered the point of my GSW rant haha. It meant to say “no talk of draymond”, as far as what Kerr said about his SF position? Is this something to worry about?! Barnes starting and iggy coming off the bench. Uh oh.. Where are the mins for dray?

You’re right on the 3s in my league. Would love dray on the team but yes… Keeerrrrrrrrrrr!!!! *shakes fist*

      • dan-o1 says:
        (link)

@Lasandro: am wondering the same thing, lasandro. kerr splitting dray’s minutes between sf/pf a viable option?. if anything it seems like a good issue to have from kerr’s point of view, not so much if you own draymond. i’m keepin him

        • CTMN says:
          (link)

@dan-o1: yeah Draymond plays a lot of PF, he’s good for small ball lineups off the bench. He might start slow but really it’s just the points that look bad, if you ignore points then he’s really solid. So depends on your needs. If David Lee gets injured, watch out. And Barnes has been inconsistent in his first couple seasons so if Kerr sees that to start the year, Draymond might start taking some minutes at SF.

          • JB Gilpin

            JB Gilpin says:
            (link)

@dan-o1: @Lasandro: @CTMN: Harrison Barnes is just not a good NBA player. Disappears too much. Even if he starts early, Draymond just does so much more and impacts the game more. And right now, if Barnes does start I could see Draymond playing more minutes off the bench really easily.

Agree I like SF/PF is good for him, means more minutes and can fit in more given certain matchups. Don’t let anything swoon you from Green love!

              (link)

@JB Gilpin: @CTMN:thanks guys… yeah, i just don’t see barnes becoming much different of a player….Green love ftw

                @CTMN: /@dan-o1:
                Agree with all of that.

I think one concern with Draymond was if he was a SF or a PF. Like Jeremy Evans has that issue on the Jazz, but for different reasons. Turns out, he’s plenty athletic to handle both. Unlike Evans who is a little too lanky/skinny for PF and too big for SF.

            • CTMN says:
              (link)

@dan-o1: @JB Gilpin: Yeah I think Green was just a more NBA ready player from the start. He went 35 in the 2012 draft which was ridiculous, but it was a good draft class and teams didn’t see as much “potential” in him. But that’s kinda stupid since he was already good! I remember he had a triple double in a March Madness game! But Barnes has some great athleticism and could eventually become better. But for this season, no question Green will get the minutes and stats even if it’s off the bench.

      • Lasandro says:
        (link)

@dan-o1 @jb gilpin @CTMN: Great insight gentleman! Enjoying this discussion. Reminds me a little of how Henson was such a per minute beast last season but Larry Screw kept giving him crappy mins off the bench and no guarantee of starting

As far as dropping a guy to take Dray, I’d love to pull the trigger on Stuckey, but I dont have any other SG eligible player. I was hoping that ESPN may perhaps change RJax’s position from PG to SG, but not sure if thats gonna happen. May be likely that Westbrook ends up the SG on game day. So, now with this news of Barnes and Iggy getting set roles in GSW, is RJax still droppable (at least during KD’s recovery period) to grab me Draymond off the wire? And if so, would y’all start Green over Giannis at the SF (both their ESPN eligibility… HATE that Giannis isn’t eligible at 2 positions, at least) in a H2H?

@Lasandro: Larry Screw! So glad he’s not a head coach…

This is still for your Pts league right? Big reason why I like Draymond is that format. In standard, I’d stick with RJax. Whew, ask me again on Giannis vs. Draymond week 1 closer to the start, so close!

After some trades and free agent pick ups. My lineup is:
John Wall, Patrick Beverley, Jrue Holiday, Jeremy Lin, Elfrid Payton
    Wesley Matthews, Bradley Beal
Carmelo Anthony, Chandler Parsons, Tobias Harris
    Jordan Hill, Tristan Thompson
Andre Drummond, Marc Gasol, Nikola Pekovic

Still in Free agency, Carroll, Matt Barnes, Draymond Green, Jameer Nelson, Mason Plumlee, Alec Burks, Wilson Chandler, Miles Plumlee, Javale McGee, Rodney Stuckey, Amare Stoudemire, OJ Mayo and Aaron Gordon. Who could I still pick and drop?

I’m thinking of trading Patrick Beverley for Jose Calderon?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

      @John: Pretty loaded team!

Yeah I’d definitely trade PBev for Calderon. Both give treys, Calderon a ton more assists, and both with low TO. Even though your assists are fine, Calderon helps even more.

I’m definitely losing Tristan Thompson. Don’t trust an extended role for him. I’d pickup Draymond Green to fill in. Will chip in some blocks. I’d keep an eye on Plumlee though, if he’s playing 25-27 minute a night early on, his blocks will help you a ton.

    Hey guys
I am in a league which has different cats for Offensive Rebounds and Defensive Rebounds. Any players that jump the rankings because of this ? Thanks!

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Blint: Hey man, so is it 11 cats with REB/DREB/OREB, or 10 w/ just DREB/OREB? In either case, yeah move the bigs up some. Drummond easily moves into the 1/2 turn with his category killing offensive rebounds. Robin Lopez moves a little bit up too.

Anthony Davis becomes clear #1 pick, although I have him there in standard too. And the FT drain guys, thinking DeAndre Jordan in particular, move up. Not only do OREB help them, but an additional cat takes away the strain of bad FT. Noah and Pekovic were also top 5 OREB among those mentioned, but would avoid Pekovic since his minutes are going way down. Any time!

      • Blint says:
        (link)

        @JB Gilpin:
No total rebounds, just the two separately

After a few mocks I am generally needing to pick one or two big men from this group – Since you have them ranked all together which one would you pick-
Randolph , Bogut , chandler , hawes, dieng , sullinger, hibbert , sims!
Also I forgot to mention a tiny detail , it is a keeper league! 🙂

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Blint: Aha! Yeah I’m less apt to totally punt FT, but it’s not as big a deal.

How many keepers year-to-year? I might roll the dice Dieng in either case. But would Randolph first, A pretty good OREB guy, finished 5th in that cat last year.

            @JB Gilpin:
Not sure if you remember but I was the one pestering you about the keeper rankings 😉 I can keep as many players as I want at the round they were drafted year on year. So the first year draft becomes super important.

@Blint: Ah, haha sorry I remember but forgot that was you at first 🙂 Keeper ranks are something we’ll surely do next year.

                @JB Gilpin:

In the projections you wrote a certain player is a deep league play only! At what roster size or league size do you draw that line? 150 players say is standard league?

                Also .510/.780/0.4/23.5/9.8/1.8/1.5/3.0/1.9 :38
becomes a little confusing to understand could you have like a legend to explain it to newbies like me! Thanks!!!

                  JB Gilpin says:
                  (link)

@Blint: I’d define it as a guy not owned in a standard 12 team, so 12 teams x 13 roster spots = 156, so you’re spot on there. I might mention it on a guy above that line, but sometimes the boring reliable guys are better to fill out half your bench than all upside players for a 12 team league, because there will just be more guys available to pick up in shallower.

No problem man! I’ll put a legend on the last rankings update I’m putting out Tuesday I think. It goes:
                  FG%/FT%/3-pointers made/points/rebounds/assists/steals/blocks/turnovers then :38 = minutes played per game

                    @JB Gilpin:

Thanks a lot! We are going to roster about 180 players so definitely a deep league. Legend will definitely help 🙂

JB I know you’re not as big on the importance of playoff schedules as Slim but Curry’s is sooo good, so would you consider taking him over AD? It also allows you to put Curry as your #1 SG which is really great for assists and locks up the 3s/points categories which I like to pretty much ignore until the last couple rounds (just like you guys do!), so having Curry could cover my deficiencies. But I’m really not sure what to do! What do you think?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@CTMN: Nah, for me GSW 4/4/4 vs. NOP 4/3/3 isn’t enough to swoon me to Curry first. Curry’s 3s I think I can get later in the draft. I think AD at 1 gives you awesome %s plus blocks as a better center than FT%/3s/Pts/AST

      • CTMN says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: Yeah I’m definitely gonna have to think about it…both seem super fun to own, Davis has had a couple injury issues, Curry has the schedule advantage, Davis has the crazy steals/blocks/rebounds/%s with good points and can be a C but Curry has crazy 3s/points/assists/%s with good steals…the blocks might have to take over in the end.

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@CTMN: Well Curry has had major ankle issues in his past as well. But definitely a concern for Davis. I’ve become so jaded with injuries that if you’re semi-healthy for the season, I’m not lowering/raising anyone. KD is hurt! He’s never hurt! So yea, gimme the blocks over treys/points which I think you can get later.

  15. CTMN says:

OK guys, my more serious, important team. 12 team H2H 8 cat (no turnovers). 15 players per team.
I decided to go with AD at 1. I hope you guys can review this one on the podcast! I’m really happy with my start but I didn’t get a couple sleepers I hoped for (my friends were a bit smarter than I thought).
    1 Davis (#1 overall)
    2 Lowry (24)
    3 Millsap (25)
    4 Hayward (48)
    5 Holiday (49)
    6 David West (72)
    7 T-Jones (73)
    8 Calderon (96)
    9 Knight (97)
    10 Henson (120)
    11 Draymond (121)
    12 KJ McDaniels (144)
    13 Mason Plumlee (145)
    14 Jarrett Jack (168)
15 CJ Miles (169) – already dopped for Wes Johnson to stream him with 4 games this week

I was thinking I’d get KCP at 168 instead of Miles but someone took him, I guess they did their research. I also thought Elfrid might fall to 120 but no. I wanted Favors at 49 but I felt I needed a PG so I went Holiday, Favors fell to 65 but not to me unfortunately. I went T-Jones over Markieff, the steals/blocks upside and better playoff schedule led me to that. I took West for a safe pick, points, boards, decent steals/blocks and no George/Stephenson. MCW fell all the way to 96 but I just couldn’t pull the trigger. I think they’ll really rest him with any minor injuries, he doesn’t hit 3s like Calderon, and he hurts fg% a lot.
I might be able to do a Rubio for Holiday trade, do you think it’s necessary or good for me with this roster build? Do I trade Holiday because of the rough playoff schedule? Would like to hear your thoughts.
