Following a heartbreaking buzzer-beater loss to the New Orleans Pelicans, the Oklahoma City Thunder respond with a last-second bucket of their own to take down the LA Clippers, 104-103. The big basket came from none other than Shai Gilgeous-Alexander who finished the night with 18 points and six assists. Lugentz Dort led the team with 29 points, but the guy to watch in this one was Josh Giddey. Although the rookie finished with only eight points, he also grabbed 18 rebounds and dished out ten assists. He may not be getting the same Rookie of the Year buzz as guys like Evan Mobley and Scottie Barnes, but statistically, he should definitely be in the discussion.

With Paul George out, it was Luke Kennard who stepped up for the Clippers as the team’s lead shot creator. Kennard finished with a team-high 27 points and second-year guard Terance Mann added 18 points with seven rebounds. Rounding things out, Reggie Jackson finished with a double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds despite of shooting 6-of-20 from the floor. Close game till the end, but Shai Gilgeous-Alexander just continues to be dangerous in the clutch.

Bradley Beal

After losing four straight, the Washington Wizards get a much-needed win on the back of a season-high 37 points from Bradley Beal to beat the Utah Jazz, 109-103. In the process of having his best scoring performance of the year, Beal warned Defensive Player of the Year candidate Rudy Gobert that he was going to dunk on him. Gobert laughed but Beal got the last laugh as he got the dunk. This game was decided by a Raul Neto jump ball win over Donovan Mitchell that led to a big three from Kentavious Caldwell-Pope to ice the game with 11.6 seconds left. Neto finished the game with 15 points and a career-high seven rebounds while KCP finished with 13 points.

Donovan Mitchell

After winning eight straight, this loss is the second of back-to-back losses for the Utah Jazz. Donovan Mitchell led the charge with 32 points and Bojan Bogdanovic added 18 points of his own. Rudy Gobert finished the night with a double-double with 11 points and 19 rebounds along with a whopping six blocks. Utah’s main guys clearly performed well, but the difference in this game was the play of the Wizards bench who got 37 total points between Neto, Deni Avdija, and Montrezl Harrell. The Jazz only had one double-digit scorer off the bench and that was Jordan Clarkson with 12 points.

Christian Wood

The Houston Rockets get a big 116-107 victory over the Detroit Pistons despite it being their sixth game in nine days. This was a pretty balanced offensive attack for the Rockets as they finished with seven guys scoring double-digit points. Christian Wood led the way with 21 points and veteran guard Eric Gordon followed with 18 points. Garrison Mathews continues to be a flamethrower from deep as he hit 4-of-9 threes and finished with 16 points. This win snaps a short two-game losing streak and gives them their second win in their last five games.

Cade Cunningham

PTS REB AST FG% 3P% FT% STL BLK
21 7 11 8/19 3/9 2/2 2 1

This loss means the Detroit Pistons have lost 14 straight games. This losing streak is tied for the longest in franchise history alongside their skids in 1979-80 and 1993-94. Talk about a rough stretch. Rookie guard Cade Cunningham finished with a near triple-double with 21 points, seven rebounds, and 11 assists. Saddiq Bey acted as Cunningham’s wingman as he added 23 points, four rebounds, and three assists. The Pistons also got near double-doubles from Isaiah Stewart and Killian Hayes. Stewart finished with 16 points and eight rebounds on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor. Hayes finished with eight points and ten assists despite going 0-of-4 from three. Tough times seem to only be getting tougher as they play the Miami Heat next.

Josh Richardson

Josh Richardson drops a season-high 27 points to lead the Boston Celtics to the 114-107 win over the New York Knicks. It was all about the Js for the Celtics as Jayson Tatum added 25 points and Jaylen Brown finished with 23 points of his own. Let’s not sleep on second-year guard Payton Pritchard either who came off the bench and dropped 16 points on 4-of-7 shooting from three in 28 minutes. This win brings Boston back up to .500 at 15-15.

Kemba Walker

Kemba Walker makes a statement against his former team in his return to the court despite the loss. Walker showed that he belonged on the court as he finished second on the team with 29 points and was getting it done from beyond the arc. But it was Evan Fournier who led the way with 32 points and hardly came off the floor as he played a game-high 42 minutes. Julius Randle rounded out the triple threat attack for the Knicks as he finished with 20 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists. This loss makes five in their last six games.

Robin Lopez

The Orlando Magic take down the short-handed Brooklyn Nets, 100-93 to end their seven-game losing streak. Without both Cole Anthony and Jalen Suggs, the Magic were forced to play rookie forward Franz Wagner at point guard. Point Franz worked out well though as he finished with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists. Veteran big man Robin Lopez led the way with 20 points and ten rebounds in a team-high 38 minutes. Alongside him in the frontcourt, Chuma Okeke had a solid outing as well with 15 points and six rebounds while shooting 6-of-11 from the field. Not to mention Gary Harris who had a good night as well with 17 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Considering the circumstances, this was one of those games that the Magic just needed to come out with.

David Duke

With practically the entire Brooklyn Nets roster on the shelf, the Nets were lucky they even had enough guys to make this competitive. Rookie David Duke put himself on the map a bit with this one as he finished with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Fellow rookie Cam Thomas added 15 points, seven rebounds, and four assists in spite of shooting 7-of-20 from the field. The veterans also did what they could as Patty Mills finished with a game-high 23 points. Blake Griffin also added 17 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Brooklyn still sits atop the Eastern Conference at 21-9.

Fred VanVleet

Fred VanVleet recorded a near triple-double as he led the Toronto Raptors to the 119-100 victory over the short-handed Golden State Warriors. Alongside VanVleet, Scottie Barnes had a Rookie of the Year-like performance as he finished the game with 21 points, eight rebounds, and six assists while shooting 8-of-12 from the field. The Raptors finished with six players in double figures including Precious Achiuwa and Yuta Watanabe who combined for 29 points off the bench.

Jonathan Kuminga

No Stephen Curry. No Andrew Wiggins. No Draymond Green. Even Jordan Poole didn’t play in this game. With such an undermanned roster in this one, rookie Jonathan Kuminga came in and stole the show for the Warriors. The rookie forward led the team with 26 points in a game-high 36 minutes. Including Kuminga, Golden State finished with seven players scoring double figures, but the team’s second leading scorer was Damion Lee with 14 points. Can’t sleep on the other rookie Moses Moody who finished with 11 points and eight rebounds off the bench. The Warriors may have lost this game, but the versatility they showed along with the progression of their rookies just goes to show you why they should be one of the most feared teams in the league.

Cedi Osman

Closing out the night, the Cleveland Cavaliers win their sixth straight game over the undermanned Milwaukee Bucks, 119-90. Darius Garland finished with 22 points and six assists on 10-of-13 shooting from the floor, but it was all about the Cleveland bench in this one. Ricky Rubio finished with a double-double with 15 points and ten assists. Cedi Osman finished with a team-high 23 points on 8-of-12 shooting. Even Kevin Love got in the mix with 15 points, seven rebounds, and four assists in 23 minutes. Solid performance for Cleveland without rookie Evan Mobley as they continue to look like a real threat in the East.

Jordan Nwora

Basically, everyone was out for Milwaukee in this one as not a single Bucks starter played in this one. Second year forward Jordan Nwora took advantage of this opportunity by dropping a game-high 28 points along with 11 rebounds. Sandro Mamukelashvili added 17 points and was 4-of-9 from three. Watch out for Demarcus Cousins who is slowly rounding into form as he finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds in 27 minutes as part of the starting lineup.
