When I first moved out to the East Coast, the changing of the seasons was kind of cool because I had never experienced it before. After a year, F that. NAW mean? The summers are so freaking humid. The winters are cold and nasty. Fall is kind of cool with the leaves and all but it’s chilly as well. Spring time is when people are most jovial because they’ve been cooped up all winter but it’s also the nicest weather. NAW mean? So, why not be in a place that is spring all the time? If you want to frolic in the snow, then drive a few hours to the nearest mountain. NAW mean? Anyways, sorry for the rant but Nickeil Alexander-Walker got me all amped up from his performance last night.

Dayam. NAW mean? That was a performance of epic proportions from NAW. Now, don’t go crowning his ass because he shot super efficiently from the field. On the season, he’s at 36% from the field. Hilarious. NAW mean? NAW is starting and averaging 32.1 minutes. He is chipping a little something something in every category so he’s useful. NAW mean? The field goal percentage is a legitimate concern, though. He’s a top 100-ish player but what happens when Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson return to the mix. We will just have to wait and see how it plays out. NAW mean?

Here’s what else I saw last night:

Giannis Antetokounmpo

His bad days are wet dreams for most NBA players. That said, in two games against the Knicks this season, G has shot 7-for-17 and 5-for-15. Not in Mr. Robinson’s Neighborhood, G! You best recognize!

Pat Connaughton

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT

Led the Bucks in points! Pat, Pat, he’s our man. If he can’t do it, no one can. Connaughton was making it rain from downtown like James Harden in the strip club. Unlike Harden, though, he ain’t getting his name etched onto the wall (at both the club and the arena). Basically, shit happens from time to time so don’t take too much from this game.

Derrick Rose

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT

Only one Knicks starter scored in double-figures. Three of them scored three, two, and two points. As a result, the signal was sent up and illuminated the Gotham skyline. And Rose responded with 30 minutes of vintageness. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to overcome the Bucks. Hey, he’s not Superman! Rose averages 23 minutes a game and has five games under 20 minutes so don’t expect this kind of workload on the regular.

Top 15 player on the season! The journey had been turtle-esque as he went from 444 to 106 to 76 to 69 last season. Then KAPOW!!! Top 20 right in your eye. He’s averaging 34.3 minutes, two minutes more than last season. The biggest jumps have been in the 8.2 dimes, 2.2 steals, 0.5 blocks. I be sliding into this DM every night when possible.

Thaddeus Young

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT

Played 24 minutes. Since Poeltl has been out, Young has played 22, 26, 26, and 24 minutes. He’s contributed a little something something in every cat but tres. The free-throw shooting is awful but the dimes and defensive stats are juicy. When Poeltl returns, it is likely that Young grows old on the bench but you never know. Maybe he’s earned some cache with his recent play.

Three Spurs scored 15 points off the bench – Lonnie Walker IV, Devin Vassell, and Bryn Forbes. Jinx!

Norman Powell

PTS REB AST STL BLK TOV 3PT FG FT
23 3 1 1 0 0 3/8 8/17 4/5

Powell continues to ball out, as he’s scored at least 20 points in five of the last six games. He’s a top 50 player on the season, but it’s primarily due to the efficiency, as he’s shooting 51% from the field and 82% from the line. In category leagues, those are super valuable. That said, his contributions in the other counting stats are limited outside of points and tres.

With Deandre Ayton out, it’s been JaVale McGee and Kaminsky taking care of the center minutes. McGee plays around 20 minutes with Frank the Tank taking most of the rest. Portland boosts three-point prowess to centers by 30.49%, so this wasn’t a complete shock.

Sabonis is tied for second in dub-dubs so the 20 and 19 weren’t surprising. The defensive contributions were, though. He rarely does that. I guess this is a “shit happens” post for real.

He’s come off the bench in seven games and averaged 22.2 minutes. Whether as a starter or reserve, though, he’s averaging 5.4 dimes and shooting 53% from the field. He’s a top 30 player on the season as he’s averaging 17.5 points, 2.6 tres, 4.6 boards, 4.4 dimes, 1.4 steals, and 0.6 blocks. He’s shooting 49% from the field and 73% from the line. The shooting efficiency was a concern coming into the season and it’s manifested that way, so no surprise. He’s shooting 39% from the field but there are a ton of encouraging things for Giddey. I haven’t written up Hayward that much this season. Hmmm, come to think of it, I haven’t been writing many recaps so that would be expected. I’m what you call one of them geniuses. Hayward is a top 70 player and his main allures are points and percentages. He doesn’t provide much in the way of defensive stats.

My initial thought about Oubre was that he thrived against uptempo teams but some of his biggest games have been against slow-paced teams. *shrug* Oubre has seven games with double-digit points but six games in single digits with two games with zero. He’s a top 150 player who doesn’t contribute defensive stats and has poor percentages. The inconsistency is too much for me and he hurts rather than helps in the long run.

Porzingis is Drago who transitioned to hoops after getting punched in the face repeatedly by Rocky. The field goal percentage is an awful 38% on the season. He shot 47% last season and has been above 42% in every season so positive regression is in the works. He’s been shooting 39% on the season. That’s not going to last so expect better efficiency going forward. The main concern is the volume, though. He’s averaging 14 shots per game. Last season, he was at 20 shots per game. The Bulls are a very good team with many offensive options now. Good for real life but bad for fantasy.

Here’s how the offensive pie was divided up for Chicago last night:

The free-throw shooting is good at 80% but the field goal percentage is rough at 40%. The 1.2 steals and 1.3 blocks are lovely, though. Not sure if that level of defensive contributions maintains though.

I was so wrong about Barnes. Father, please forgive me for I have sinned. He’s a top 80 player and I had him closer to the top 200 coming into this season. I didn’t think the efficiency would be there as well as the playing time but he’s playing 34 minutes a game and racking up boards and steals while shooting 53% from the field. He’s shooting 39% from the field but he’s converted at least 45% of his attempts in each of his four prior seasons. The free-throw shooting is at 75% after being above 80% throughout his career.
