Ya know, playing a typical “bad” team can help cure all ills, but then there’s playing a New York team that goes full Poppycock…  To kick off MLK day, the Knicks continued their epic collapse, by being forced to start doofy Ron Baker and Mind Games Koozie Mints.  I’m kinda guessing at that second guy, I don’t know why Razzball isn’t linking to his name though!  It’s about right!  Baker got 22 minutes of 12/3/1/2/0 and was OK, and I guess Mindaugas Kuzminskas was OK too for 14/5/2/2/0 in 38 minutes, and well, the Hawks only beat this make-shift roster by 1, so there’s that!  But the big thing to watch in this game (for me) was Dennis Schroder, who is off two horrid games where he got out-minutesed by Malcolm Delaney.  Fortunately Das German broke out of his funk, and went 28/3/3 on a mad hot 13-16 shooting with a trey.

The trey being the game winner!  Still got 2 TO and no D stats, but hey, at least he kept another split-PG situation from developing.  Already have seen to much of that in the NBA!  It was an action-packed, holiday-filled day of basketball last night, so let’s daily notes it up!

Kent Bazemore Wing minutes there for the taking, and finally Baze is breaking out of it!  16/6/5/1/0 with 2 treys, and I’m glad I scooped him up where I could.

Paul Millsap Playing some out-of-position C with Dwight Howard out (rest), and went 1.5 rainbow for 17/7/6/3/3.  That said, murdered your ratios for 5-18 shooting, 6-10 FT, and 3 TO.  Emulated Dwight a little TOO much on some of that!

Tim Hardaway Jr. – Ups and downs of ThrAGNOFfing!  After a dud, comes out and goes 20/3/4/1/0 with 2 treys.  I think he’s just happy to be neutered and no longer be a Poppycock.

Carmelo Anthony Puts up 20 points, but bleh.  His caramel-filled knees can’t carry this team without…

Kristaps Porzingis …The Goose!  Sat yet again with a sore Achilles.  If you’re concerned, just look at what old man Dirk has been able to do after a sore Achilles ruined his first month.  Goose should heal quicker while on his roost.

Joakim Noah Well, at least Noah played pretty well!  7/17/3/1/2 on 2-3 FG, 3-5 FT.  He’s reportedly got a sore shoulder, and playing him 33+ minutes I’m sure helped the cause.  As long as that ugly-ass, side-winder shot is not going up too often, that’ll help the torque on his shoulder!

Moe Harkless I ain’t got much for the Blazers, it was just an ugly afternoon across the board in DC.  0/1/1/1/1 for Moe, still getting a steal and a block every game, by hook or by crook!

Markieff Morris Dayum, Kieff is on the upswing!  17/13/5/2/2 with no TO, on 6-9 FG (1-2 3PTM 4-4 FT).  That’s like an Otto Porter line!  Porter was only 12/4/0/1/0 – I think the two switched jerseys.

Kelly Oubre 18 minutes off the bench, inflated by a little junk time run.  I’m still hoping he can be the starting 3 next year in DC!

Joel Embiid Sheesh, this is getting to be pretty ridiculous!  Monster 22/12/2/2/5 line last night, only 9 FG attempts!  Took 13-18 FT as he got his EMBIIIIIIID slapped around a little inside.

But went full EMBIIIIIID on that one!  So fun to watch.

Sergio Rodriguez – Got the start with T.J. McConnell playing the same drills Jerryd Bayless went through in the offseason and also hurting his wrist.  Luckily the MRI came back clean, but without a timetable, if you need some PG stats, Spanish Chocolat it up!  (Was trying to go for the Spanish spelling, just so you know that wasn’t an unintentional typo.  I’m sure I have plenty of typos usually though!)  10/7/6/1/0 with a trey from S-Rod in a decent outing.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Fouled out in only 29 minutes.  Got Embiid-ed!  23/6/2/2/3 in his usual great line though.

Malcolm Brogdon 11/2/6/2/0 in a decent-enough line, but where’s the beef?!  Only 28 minutes?!  3 of the last 4 games now 28 minutes or under.  In redraft or keeper leagues, I think I’d be selling high.  Matthew Dellavedova still got his 21 minutes off the bench, and I don’t think with Delly healthy they go Brogdon as a 32 or 34 MPG starter.

Anthony Davis Got to 16/3/3 in 23 minutes, but had to leave early yet again after getting truck-sticked by Myles Turner:

On the one hand, Turner did get a pretty clean block!  On the other hand, he DDT-ed him!  At least that was only half-bad compared to when KOQ threw him out of bounds last week…  Fortunately X-rays on Brow’s hip and thumb were fine, and we might be looking at [hopefully] only a missed game or two, if that.

Terrence Jones – Got a little extra run with Brow hurt, going 15/8/3/0/2 with a trey.  Did his usual FT-punting with 2-5 FT, but holding off Donatas Motiejunas right now for bench PF/C minutes.  Tjones’s last 3 have been pretty good (minus the 6-17 FT – yikes!), but if you can manage a FT punt guy, with Brow hurt, you could take a worse flier.

Thaddeus Young Who does he think he is, Winona Ryder at a department store?!  17/3/2 with 6 steals!  8-9 FG, 1-1 FT and no TO either.  Thaddeus playing maddeus D this game!

Jeff Teague Someone get this guy some stickum!  Beautiful 16/8/10 line, but 7 TO.  Did the scorekeeper accidentally count some passes from Teague to Thad as TOs for Teague and STLs for Thad?!

Aaron Gordon New nickname!  “Lol”.  Because that’s what I do every time I see his stat line.  As soon as he’s hot, he disappears.  As soon as he’s atrocious a few games, he goes off for 30.  4/4/2/2/0 in 28 yawnstipating minutes.

Elfrid Payton Hell to the yes!  20/4/12/0/0 on 9-17 shooting.  Sure, I wish he was putting more steals on his Shelfrid, but playing some inspired ball right now.

Nikola Jokic Whoa, burying the lead!  Jokic going full Thanksgiving Ham on us!  30/11/5/3/0 with a trey, on 13-19 shooting.  Where’s the Magic D?!  I thought Nikola Vucevic was supposed to be better at D these days!

Kenneth Faried The Nugs went big for this matchup – makes sense against a team starting Serge Ibaka at the 4 – and Manimal took advantage for 10-12 FG for 20/5/2/1/1.  Marks back-to-back good games, but it’s really tough to trust he’ll get enough run.  Not like they’re gonna stop playing Wilson Chandler, who only got 21 minutes due to the matchup and a little foul trouble.

Gary Harris Mannnnn, just can’t stay healthy.  Picked up an early kankle, and is doubtful for tonight.  I’m not going to go any further into the Razzball history on this guy, I want to see him stay healthy for a bit.

Emmanuel Mudiay Well for as good as Elfrid played fantasy-wise, he didn’t lock down Mudiay on D!  Huge game from Mudiay, going 18/2/13/2/1 on 6-12 shooting with 2 treys.  He really bottomed out starting on the calendar flip to 2017, but has been much better the past 2 games.  If you can handle some % and TO drain, he’s certainly worth scooping back up.

Nicolas Batum Damn, couldn’t make one more triple?!  8/10/10/1/2 in a solid, multi-cat line, but shot only 2-11 with 4 TO.  C’s D!

Isaiah Thomas Holy schnike, it’s like he’s playing on the Warriors!  14-25 shooting for 35 points, with 7-15 of those shots treys!  IT2/3 owners are looking at a nice 3PTM win this week!

Kelly Olynyk Came in questionable with a kankle, but plodded his way through another nice outing of 15/9/4/1/0 on 6-9 shooting with 2 treys.  Another 26 minutes too, something I noted yesterday – now 5 straight of 22+ minutes, and he’s been able to fill up the cats with that kind of run.

Klay Thompson Well, I guess getting to the [email protected] game this late in the daily notes is REALLY burying the lead!  But this game was atrocious.  Klay led the Warriors in scoring with 26 Pts on 5 treys, and the Warriors won this straight from the tip.  Didn’t take kindly to the tough loss on Christmas!

Draymond Green Case and point, Draymond playing football at center court on LeBron!

#Targeting.  But hey, at least he didn’t target The King’s crown jewels on this one!  Yeah it looked worse that it was, LeBron and his long-practiced act of flopping made that look a lot worse than it should’ve been…  Oh yeah, fantasy!  Epic line!  11/13/11/1/5 with no TO this time from #Occupy!  And one tackle, for those of you in IDP leagues…

Kevin Love Aggravated a sore back when he ran into Pizza Arms, but it seems mostly like a 75-49 halftime lead sounded like a good idea to limit some minutes, rather than push through.

Rudy Gobert Is an absolute monster.  18/17/1/1/4.

Joe Ingles Is less of a monster, than just a nice, under-the-radar Hobbit.  11/2/5/2/0 from the Aussie with 3 treys.  Got 34 minutes and looks to be your starting SG for the next few weeks, as Rodney Hood hurt his knee on Sunday and will miss at least two weeks…  Ingles is pretty low upside, but you could do worse for some back end, 3-n-D.

Eric Bledsoe Was a one-man show keeping Phoenix in this one!  31/9/9/1/0 with 2 treys from mini-Bron.

Alex Len Got the start at C in a tough, tough matchup with Tyson Chandler with an upset, upset tummy.  6/5/0/0/2 from Len in 21 minutes.

Dragan Bender Wait, Gobert played 37 minutes, who in the hell was on Rudy most of this game?!  Bender?!  25 minutes for 5/4/0/0/2, and Marquese Chriss got 22 minutes and was awful with 5 fouls.  You put these two stretch 4s on Gobert some of the game?!  Yeesh.

Enes Kanter Wow, in a game against the Clippers without Steven Adams (concussion) and going against DeAndre Jordan, you start…  Jerami Grant at center?!  9/8/1/0/3 for Grant who at least held his own in 34 minutes, but Kanter only got 23 mins for 12/5/1/1/1.  I guess the Thunder wanted a leaper, not a shower.

Victor Oladipo Off one of his better lines of the year, went only 6/3/3/2/0 in this one, on 3-11 shooting.  It’s rough sledding against the Clip, so hopefully he gets back on the right foot tomorrow against the Dubs.

Chris Paul Well, it wasn’t CP3 leading this dominating win over the Thunder, as he jammed his thumb in a collision with Russell Westbrook and left after 14 minutes.  X-rays were clean, but thumb injuries can be scary.  I’m holding my breath here.

Raymond Felton Roly poly got some added run, and didn’t miss from the field!  15/3/6/1/1 on 7-7 shooting, and I might be making some spec-Felton adds across my RCLs with this Paul news.  Be sure and get him now if you’re a CP3 owner.

Marreese Speights The ace of Speights!  23/10/3/1/0 on 8-15 FG (3-7 3PTM 4-4 FT).  If there’s a jumper to be had, he’ll be taking it!

I hope everyone had a fantastic MLK day and got to watch some added afternoon basketball yesterday!  Good luck to your squads in the remainder of the week, and I’ll catch you with the Pod and Notes again on Thursday morning!

Yo JB! Feels like I gave you a vacation from my questions. 😀

I added Markieff and look at that upswing go! I ended up adding James Johnson because someone else took Tyreke and I think Montresl’s value isn’t going to be the same with Capela back. I don’t like having multiple guys from one team but I suppose for now I have no alternative.

That said, looking at my roster’s recent performance, I can’t help but notice that Ersan”s productivity has steadily decreased. Sure he still gets points, 3s, and low TOs but his production in other cats is sort of a sprinkle, and his FG% is way down.

Would you drop him, or anyone else really, for any of these FAs: The oft-injured Gary Harris, the improving but FG-challenged Kent Bazemore, the never quite fulfilling Terrence Jones, the double-doubling low end Taj Gibson, the so-far absent Kenneth Manimal Faried, or the d-stat beast but otherwise offensively challenged Lucas Nogueira?

Team: Lowry, Conley, TyJo, Beal, Batum, Markieff, Ersan, James Johnson, Millsap, Goose, Gobert

@Not Your Average Joe: Hah, talking fantasy hoops everyday is a vacation for me!

Hell yeah, Kieff, nice upswing! Hah. Yeah Ersan is pretty blah, I’m def good moving on. I know Slim will say Harris… I’m on the fence there due to the long-standing debate on if he’s good enough to stash while hurt, I kinda like going Bazemore who is playing better

I know all these guys have diff positives but as a short term add maybe only this week or next who do you think is the best overall player felton, ingals, J.J. Barea or spanish chocolate? btw its a 9 cat league we don’t use TO is a 12 team weekly head to head daily league 3 bench spots no IR for some reason like J.J. maybe cuz he has 4 games left this week but I think his lack of minutes will hurt his counting stats. is spanish coco cuz of his minutes the best pick up? plus I own t.j. mcdonnell… anyways thx for the help !!

    • whatcha think? says:
      (link)

@whatcha think?: or dion waiters??? ingals only has 2 games this week so I guess forget him. the rest of the guys have 3 games other than j.j. who has 4. now i’mkinda liking waiters as a guy I could possibly keep on my team. he was having a really good year before his inj. I just hope he starts shooting better. His FG% is bad the last couple games.

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@whatcha think?: Well Spanish Chocolate might lose his starting run since TJ is almost back, so a pass there. And yeah, Ingles, nah. Waiters is always gonna be a FG% drain, but I think he’s actually the safest add. If you wanna be bold and go some upside, I’m reallllly worried about CP3’s thumb. I might proactively get Felton

  5. Dan says:

Who do you like better ROS: Aaron Gordon or Kelly Olynyk? Looks like Stevens is starting to give KO minutes. He’s played more than Amir the last few games. KO’s per-36 are great.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Dan: Yeah, mentioned the more consistent run for Olynyk above – that said, I kinda think I wanna lean A-Gor since the upside is so much higher. It’s really close though, I also worry Olynyk gets back down to 15 MPG at some point

  6. Bgrizzle says:
    (link)

Who would you rather have on your team for upside/ROS. Im currently in 1st but its a tight grouping. Hoping to have the best player come playoffs on my team.

Mo Harkless, Jame Johnson, TJ Warren.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

@Bgrizzle: Ya know, I’ll go James Johnson! I think he’s going to be a rock as a mentor for this team going through a rough spell and get consistent run

  7. Joel

Lin worth my number 3 waiver claim in 12ER? IR spot open. Also Jahil worth a stash in hopes he gets traded or too soon?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Joel: Nahhhhh, I don’t weigh much on waiver claims, but unless you can just add him for free after waivers run to throw him on your IR, I wouldnt bother. And nah on Jahlil either, I think they’d rather keep him around since they have him longer and won’t get the same trade return as Noel

      • Beal Parmesean says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: Well now that CP3 is down, Lin is out of the question…Jahil got scooped up. Buuuut, got a trade question: was thinking of offering my Pau, Jrue, and Gary Harris for Horford and Nerlens. Like it or too much to give up?

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Beal Parmesean: Hah yeah it’s a brutal one, got one of my RCLs too. I like the idea, I think it’s mad close. I just don’t see much from nerlens, he have a better throw in that could maybe help your lost-CP3 AST?

          • Joel

            Joel says:
            (link)

@JB Gilpin: deron williams his only other pg besides westbrook. I’m looking at the 2 other teams I’m likely to face in the playoffs and I don’t know if I can beat them in assists anyway. My best chance to win would be to max out FG% stls, Blks, Rebs, 3s, Low TOs. One of the teams has Harden the other has like 5 pgs.

            • JB Gilpin

              JB Gilpin says:
              (link)

@Joel: Ugh yeah, that’s no bueno. I still would try for a better throw in to boost those stats than Nerlens

  8. Jerry says:

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

@Jerry: Yo! Markieff is the clear 1 for me, I think I would go Capela as my #2

  9. Patty Mills is my Homeboy says:
    (link)

    Hey JB,

I’m in need of a regular SG/SF to fill my roster. I am flush with PGs (Lowry, Teague, Conley, Beverley, Lin[IR]).
What are your thoughts on offloading Conley for someone like Jabari, Avery Bradley or Otto Porter or Crowder. And how do you rate those guys ROS.

    Thanks!

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Patty Mills is my Homeboy: Sure, that kind of deal makes perfect sense. I think I’d rank em Otto, Bradley, Crowder, Parker? All pretty close though. If it fits the need, I’m OK with any of the 4 for Conley

  10. James says:
    (link)

Got offered his gordon haywood for my Kristaps porzingos. You thoughts?

    My team is:
    PG lowry, Collison, Schroder
    SG beal, g harris
    SF antentakoumpo, Gallinari
    PF Turner, Porzingos
    C Adams, Gobert

    I’m currently 2nd with 8-4 record.
A little worried about Kristaps injuries recently and got blocks pretty well sorted

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@James: Yeah your blocks are awesome. I think I’m good with this deal! Kinda seeing a possible Goose shutdown, the way the Knicks are going…

  11. Johnc says:
    (link)

Lots of CP3 questions coming your way for sure! My team is riddled with injuries right now but I can weather the storm.
Wire has Rivers, Faried, Leuer, Ingram, JaMike, Saric, Jennings. Not sure I can hold JRich while CP3 in IR spot. Sergio a streamer until JT back. Currently in second place but was coming on strong so this injury is a crusher but not a death blow.

    12 teams, h2h, 9 cats. My team:
    Lowry, RJax, Smart, Sergio
Porter, Leonard, J Rich, G Harris, Reke
KAT, Jokic, Adams, Poison Goose, Horford,
    IR: CP3

Do I reload and dump JRich and Sergio? Do I hold JRich and play down a man? Is Rivers the guy since Fatty Felton is already owned? He plays a lot of minutes but is up and down. Ugh.

    • Johnc says:
      (link)

      @Johnc:

Same question but without Rivers. Team with better priority got him. So, do I keep J Rich for 2-3 weeks of zippo thinking he gets 30+ minutes upon his return, while using Sergio’s spot to stream? Or drop both and hope a waiver guy sticks?

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@Johnc: Hah, yeah I wouldn’t be surprised! I kinda had a feeling this was gonna be that ligament thing…

Yeah Jrich can go. While Faried is playing well, I def would be looking for guards/AST. I think Sergio can go too since TJ is “going to try to play” tonight. So I would get Ingram and Jennings I think? Ugh Jennings has been bad. Maybe do Jrich for Ingram then hold Sergio for tonight to see what happens

        • Johnc says:
          (link)

          @JB Gilpin:
This is sick. Missed out on both Rivers and Ingram.
“Best” on the wire consists of Kilpat, Faried, T Jones, Leuer. None of whom I trust.

          • JB Gilpin

            JB Gilpin says:
            (link)

@Johnc: damnnnnn, sorry man. Yeah I don’t trust any of these guys either, I wouldn’t mine a quick flier on Tjones for JRich and hope he blows up, then maybe trade something

            • John says:
              (link)

              @JB Gilpin:

I like it! Much like the draft, I usually go for best player and then deal from a position of strength. If I can grab Faried and/or T Jones, I could deal one if they spike or maybe Adams who is playing crazy well and could get me a nice piece of the puzzle

              • JB Gilpin

                JB Gilpin says:
                (link)

@John: Yup, as long as your league is fairly active in trading, it is a smart approach. I like the idea of selling Adams too, def wanna wait until he’s back on the court and goes on a little run tho

    Hi JB,

Dude is trading me Draymond Green for my Brook Lopez and Goran Dragic. 12-team 9-cat roto.

I’m currently in 11th place at both STL and BLK, and 10th in AST. Also just picked up Felton for 2 months of starter minutes (hopefully).

This is a good trade for me, right?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

    Razzup, JB?!
I’m considering dropping Wes Matthews for Carroll, but not really sure about it. Wes is my ThrAGNoF guy with almost 3 3pts per game for the season (was hoping his STLs would remain a bit higher, but they’ve declined a bit recently), but Carroll seems to be playing better and better. Basically, my focus is on the playoffs now, since I’ve secured the top4 spot (4 PO teams). Both DAL and TOR have a 3-4 schedule in the 2 PO weeks that matter to me, so it’s a tie there.
    Any thoughts?
    P.S.
THJ is also available, and his PO schedule is 4-4 (if he’s not traded), he might be a nice pick as well.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Nukna: Whew, yeah that’s close. Carroll should hit some treys too, but the downgrade is there, how good are your 3s most weeks? Also, Matthews could be a prime shutdown candidate. I think I like going Carroll

Kind of want to grab Zubac… In a league where somebody will snatch him quick.

Would you drop any of these 3 ? Harris, Hield, Seth ?

    Thanks

@Mr. Blast: I was all about getting Zubac heading into the year. Harris is… Devin? Then absolutely him. Or Seth or Hield, really fine losing any fo the 3

@JB Gilpin: Gary Harris** Seth or Hield ?

@BILL BLAST: Hahaha, I was thinking Tobias or Devin for some reason. Devin is so off the radar and you’d never drop Tobias – no idea why I didn’t think Gary! I’d hold Gary, prob would lose Hield first

    Hey JB,

Wanted a little advice on my team. Standard 9 Cat, 12 Team, Roto.

    Current Roster:

G: Wall, Klay Thompson, Dragic, Brogdon, Wade
F: Kawhi, James Johnson, Ilyasova, Harkless
C: Marc Gasol, Howard, Kanter, Pau Gasol

    Current Points, FG% 7, FT% 5, 3PTM 11, PTS 11, REB 10, AST 12, ST 12, BLK 10, TO 1

I have just agreed a trade receiving Isaiah Thomas, for Howard and Wade.

Just wanted any advice you can offer on potential moves?

    Thanks

@Shahed: Nice, what a deal!!!!!!!!! Yeah that absolutely does wonders for your FT%, awesome work!

How far back are you in TO? This is the time where you start gauging if you have like a huge lead over the guy with 10 in points vs being really close to the field in TO. How much of a gap is there for you to try and make a little ground in TO?

        @JB Gilpin:
Yeah wanted to get my FT% up, now I have Kawhi and IT to help FT%.

I have 1013 TO for the season, the guy who is in 1st place has 993 TO, next guy has 863.

I have 7836 Points for the season, the guy who is in 1st place has 7938, guy below me has 7351.

I have 198 more REB than the next guy, and only 3 REB behind guy ahead.

I have 53 more Steals than next guy.

I have 54 more Blocks than the next guy, and 26 Blocks behind guy ahead.

This is my first year playing fantasy, so all your advice has been very helpful.

@Shahed: yeah you get good FT, and most importantly good volume to try and boost some points there.

Meh, sounds like only 1 TO point is really for grabs. Maybe by early March you start gauging if you should bench guys against the best defenses here and there. Depends also on how close points are vs. that #1 team. But not benching rebounders it sounds like!

Next move would be trying to get draft day value out of Gasol. i bet he racks up 6-8 DNPs in March-April. On a lesser scale, Dragic too on that awful team who could be shut down

@John: @Jason: March is still a bit out for Simmons. Uggghhhh I like Zubac SOOOOO much, I just dunno about the mins. I’d say if you need a big man and wanna take a flier, I’m OK moving on from Parsons at this point. It’s painfullllll though. I’m still holding Parsons where I have him despite this being a trainwreck
