Full disclosure – the entirety of this post was written before Sunday afternoon.  I know that either A – I would be too drunk to try to finish this if the Panthers win the Super Bowl, and my writing would be as incoherent as the screenplay of Southland Tales.  Although to be fair, I actually kinda liked that movie!  It was a mess; but a weird mess!  A little JT before he went full movie star!  And Amy Poehler before she, ummmm, fired her agent.  And Cheri Oteri!  Before she, ummmmm, was never heard from again.  Or B – I would be too depressed to write anything about basketball.

As we chug along into the All-Star Break, one train is certainly doing the Ozzy Crazy Train right now!  Gorgui Dieng just tore apart the Bulls, going 24/14/7/0/1 in 41 minutes, hitting 10-13 FG and 4-4 FT.  And you’ve been benching this guy for Kevin fuc$*$*$&#*#*$$ing Garnett!?  Even Ricky Rubio is like, “wait, he got more assists than even MI last game!?  Ay dios mio!”  The Dieng Train is on an absolute tear the past 7 games, and Coach Sam Mitchell said “he might be willing to find out” if Dieng can play 40 minutes a night.  Hey Mitchell, I might be willing to bitchslap you if you play KG at the starting 4 again!  I might go so far as saying Dieng is a top-50 option ROS, which is as disheartening as it gets as I own him nowhere.  I was late for the Train!  The conductor was like “All Aboard!” and I was like, “F that, Mitchell isn’t playing him enough!”  Kudos to you if you hopped aboard anyway right before this run.  Here’s what else went down over the weekend, plus the 14 [kinda] Ahead for Week 16:

Lance Stephenson I know how to engage the fantasy hoops community, and that’s with a strong start to the player analysis and opening with Lance Stephenson!  13/1/3/1/0 hitting 6-6 FG and his only freebie for his second usable-ish game in the past 4.  Deep leaguers should actually keep an eye out, wing minutes have been going to some real scrubs for the Clip this year.

John Wall Trip-dub me!  18/13/10 Friday night, followed by 23/6/10 Saturday.  Sure the TO and FG% at times have driven you up a Wall, but he’s been solid at draft-day price.

Hassan Whiteside Wait, trip-dub ME!  After a nice return against the Mavs last week (10/9/1/1/5), came off the bench again against the Hornets, going 10/10/0/0/10 including this block that reminds me of playing with a tiny foam ball on a Fisher Price goal.  No room for error in that tripdub!  I love that Slim last year said he didn’t think Whiteside would get triple-doubles again, and he’s had 4 since then!

DeMarcus Cousins Dammit, TRIP-DUB MEEEEEEEEEE!  Boogie is the whiniest of the 3 on the court, so it makes sense he’s the last to be called out…  24/10/10 against Brooklyn, and a few months ago I worried about all the hits and falls he takes, but he’s been healthy *crosses fingers*.

Rudy Gay Took some of the injury karma away from Boogie by picking up a kankle Friday night.  Missed yesterday, and a good chance he’s out until the ASB, at least I’d assume.  Although you know what happens when you assume!  You make an ass of your organization by continually having George Karl rumored to be fired…

Marvin Williams When shots aren’t grabbed out of the air by the Greek God Whiteside, went 27/4/2/0/1 against the Heat, and followed it up with a 13/10/1 line Saturday night.  He’s been on a decent enough run here with Michael Kidd-Gilchrist not cutting the cheese too much in his minutes.

Evan Turner Ello, Poppet!  Miss Turner for 19/12/6/0/1 against the Cavs, and hopefully something good yesterday afternoon, because I got this done before any games tipped!  Super Bowl fever!  I think he probably needs to be owned in all 12ers, which is nice n’ saucy after calling him one of my streams at only 26% owned last Monday morning.  Take that, Keira Knightley!

Tyler Zeller Ewwwwww, really JB?!  Well, 3 straight usable games, that could either become 4 straight if he did anything yesterday, or if he goes back to barely playing you can just read over this part…

Kevin Love Awwwwww, got a booboo on his thigh!  Mommy couldn’t kiss it fast enough, so he sat Saturday with a thigh bruise.  “Sing me soft kitty!”

Joe Johnson – Monster Friday night going 27/6/11/2/1 with 5 treys.  But because it’s Joe Johnson, he had to disappear the following game on Saturday.  To be fair, that Friday game was against the Kings, who are fantasy’s go-to matchup against right now.

Matt Barnes – It’s been a little rocky, but had a nice one against the Mavs Saturday night for 17/11/5/0/1 and 5 treys.  He probably should be owned in most 12ers, but there’s a lot of interesting wings out there.

Kristaps Porzingis After an atrocious Thursday night performance against the Pistons, The Poison Goose got the toxicity way back up for 17/10 and 6 blocks against the Grizz, with 3 treys.  3 treys and 6 blocks?!  That’s like a Serge Ibaka game!  Well, Ibaka of last year or 13-14, not the Ibaka that had 1 trey and no blocks last time out…

Khris Middleton The Duchess coughing it up like it’s some London Pea Fog outside or somethin’!  18/6/2/3/0 at the Jazz, but 9 TO.  That’s actually 19 TO last 4 games now.  He needs to stop practicing with MCW, I think that’s the issue…

Rudy Gobert/Derrick Favors Had some crazy D stats Friday night, combining for 7 STL and 8 BLK.  Didn’t get as much done against Phoenix on Saturday, but I blame that on the Suns guards turning it over before they could even get to the lane…

Stanley Johnson One of the buzzier players of the past week, StanJo went 14/10/3/1/0 against the Pacers in another fill-in for KCP.  Now, KCP will be back right after the break, so you’re only getting 2 more starts outta him.  He’s likely owned in most active leagues, but if you don’t have a great asset and want to start this 2-week ASB matchup with a nice boost, I would nab him.  But it’s not a long-term asset to me.

Nicolas Batum 26/11/9/1/1 leading a huge comeback win for the Hornets against the Wiz.  The Wiz! used to be Live, but now they’re dead!  If Batum can keep his toes from falling off, he should have a nice finish.

Norris Cole – Against his former teammate BronBron (but now both on different teams than the Heat!) 26/2/5 with a couple of treys for everyone’s favorite flattop.  My red underline isn’t there, meaning flattop is a word.  It looks weird!  About as weird as if I had a flattop…

T.J. McConnellIsh Smith tweaked his kankle late Friday night against the Wiz, giving McConnell a start and leading the Sixers to a win against the Nets Saturday.  17/2/6/2/0, letting Brooklyn known TJ must Protect This Houshmandzadeh!

Bobby Portis 20+ min if 4 straight now, and 18:25+ in 6 straight.  It’s still not quite enough, but at least it’s more consistent.  15/3/0/1/1 against the Wolves Saturday night for ol’ Crazy Eyes.

The 7 [14] Ahead

  • 5-game week: ATL, BOS, CHI, DEN, LAC, NO, ORL, SA
  • 3-game weeks: DAL, HOU, NY
  • Bi-Weekly League Streamers (by Y! ownership percent/games this week): Dennis Schroder (27%/4), Gary Harris (21%/5), Wesley Johnson (13%/5), Norris Cole (28%/5)

Overall Thoughts: In RCLs and hopefully in your H2H leagues, it’s a 2-week ASB matchup.  So some changes to the normal format to accommodate the ASB, and I’m only going to break down matchups day-by-day until this Thursday, and then pick it back up next week to preview games ending next week after the break.

All teams have between 3 and 5 games, so all teams unlisted have 4 game weeks.  Makes it pretty easy to pick your streaming teams, and you’re only weighing start/sit with the Texas teams.  You gotta play James Harden (even if he is turning it over 10 times a game!), maybe you’re stuck with Dwight Howard if you need a big, but other than that you’re likely sitting everyone on those teams.  For my streamers, sheesh has there been a week where Schroder hasn’t been on the list?!  The Hawks will finally make up all these nice scheduled-weeks with the bad playoff sched…  Slim’s boyfriend Gary Harris gets a nice slate and is low in TO so is a nice stream, and you gotta love Wes J’s defensive stats.  Matt Barnes Jr.!  Which is ironic, since ya know, he’s playing the Barnes role…  Kinda…  And while Cole might be a hold in a lot of leagues, I dunno if I trust the role.  But I do enough to roll the dice on his 5 games than play a fringy 4-gamer.

Monday: Pretty full slate to kick off the 2-weeker, with 20 teams in action.  ATL, DEN, LAC, ORL and SAC come in on b2bs, so be sure and monitor any banged up guys or vets from those squads.  As mentioned above, the Kings are your NBA punching bag, so your fringy Cavs definitely deserve a look.  If no Love, Tristan Thompson should see a few extra shots.  Not that he’s that high end or anything.

Tuesday: 5 games on Tuesday, with the schedule keeping anyone from starting the week on back to backs.  But BOS, GSW, HOU, SA and UTA go into Tue/Wed b2bs, so keep an eye out there – of course we’re looking right at you, Pop!  GSW should completely dismantle the Rockets, so temper expectations on high-minute starters there.  [email protected] should have some nice pace if there’s some available guys there you’d like to stream, and to be honest, all I really want to see Tuesday is Whiteside go up against Boban Marjanovic for a few minutes.  That would be AWESOME to see!

Wednesday: Huge Wednesday slate, with only 6 teams off.  Only NO has a b2b, making Cole an interesting daily moves stream if your Wednesday lineups isn’t full.  In the epic matchup of fantasy-punching bags, SAC goes @PHI.  Might as well expect a 130-120 game with no defense!

Thursday: We wrap up part 1 of the 2-week ASB matchup with only two games: [email protected] and [email protected]  As mentioned above, Norris Cole is a good stream if you’re using an early move there, but after this one, NO gets PHI next Friday.  Only 2 teams are off next Friday, so you might not be playing him that one, and might move on in daily moves leagues.  However, both WAS and MIL for pickups is interesting in limited-moves leagues like the RCLs, in that both teams suit up next Saturday when there’s only 4 games.  So your fringy guys on those teams are worth streams if you’re planning ahead for next week…   Your team should go to Jared!  Jerryd Bayless and Jared Dudley headline the streaming options there.

Well, let’s hope this Super Bowl goes as well as I think it does!  Remember I’m a big softy, any Broncos fans trolling in the comments will not be answered!  Haha.  I hope you had a great week of fantasy hoops, and looking forward to a little breather during the ASB!

      @Threekola: 🙁 indeed…

Yeah we didn’t block well and didn’t have good quick release plays. We kept yelling wondering why they’re doing play action with no run game…

Hey JB, my condolences about the Panthers loss.

Now let’s get your mind off the superbowl and talk some fantasy bball. I’m in panic mode right now, lost 4 of my last 5 h2h matchups, some pretty close ones, thanks to Knight for acting like a little bitch and not playing. So, I’m considering some major shake ups in my team, and I’m curious what do you think whic players will have the strongest finish to the season, I’m targeting those in the playoff hunt, young guns on the lottery teams, and the steady veterans who fight for better playoff seeds.

Butler, he’s my main target, I’ll try to package Hayward and Monroe for Jimmy and Gortat (he always finishes strong)
Wall, he’s tricky to get, but maybe Lillard and Brook lopez for Wall and Horford could work out
Millsap, just love this guy, I’ll ofer Lopez for him straight up.

so, if you could give me some advice on some players that could have strong end of the season, it would help a lot, thanks.

    • Melo says:
      (link)

      @Melo:
Just traded Tobias Harris for Ariza, I need those steals and threes, Houston is a disaster right now and I think they’ll going to fight for that 7. or 8. seed with Utah and Portland, so Ariza should be very busy! Orlando will eventualy fall out of the playoff picture, so they coul play their young guns more (#freeHezonja, I’m from Croatia, so little bias), and Tobas has a little history of kankles, and could rest down the stretch, a reasonable doubt.

        @Melo: Rough night…

Let’s do this basketball! Butler is a great target with this injury not being as serious as we thought. I love MIllsap too, would lovvvve that deal if you can swing it. Nice move for Ariza! Tobias has been too inconsistent, I blame SKIIIIIILES!

Other ideas for the young guys no lotto teams- Covington, Shane Larkin, Aaron Gordon, Gorgui (but prob too late!), Clarkson/D Russell,

    RAZZUP MAN?!!!

its been a while!!! sorry for the panthers man!!!

drafted dieng at 73 in our early RCL draft, and never crossed my mind to drop him. definitely reaping the rewards right now. basically, high upside players with history of production should have a very very long leash. another drafted player of mine is jr smith, though dropped him, pounced immediately after 2 great games. both have shown elite upside and production in past years. most of the times, counting only on upside with no history of production is difficult. also, an owner and a fan of gary harris fantasy game, very under rated right now. i think top 100.

any player worth monitoring with trade deadline approaching? beside the ever reliable terrence jones. hehe

@MAC: Blah, who’s ready to wrap up hoops then get baseball going?! Haha. Awesome work man, nice! You and Slim both like Harris a lot…

Hah, well Shane Larkin would benefit if Sloan is moved for anything, but who knows there… Schroder is a big one if Teague is moved. It’s wayyyyyy off the radar, but Thomas Robinson if Brolo or Thad are moved.

how bout lets just go with hoops all year long!!! cheers!!!

yeah, it seems no player worth monitoring after tjones and markieff. hehe. shroeder should be owned months ago. doubt theres a competitive league where hes floating. kieff also, since last week. i only see tjones with huge upside in free agents worth monitoring. maybe tyler zeller if boston trades him and becomes a starter.

yeah man, harris is jr smith lite. hehe. everyone needs a 3 and D guy. even in fantasy teams.

Drink some coconut water with dark rum in it, JB–will alleviate the hangover, put some pep in your step, and if you close your eyes, maybe even transport you to somewhere tropical where nobody cares about football. At least you’re not a Texans fan like me. Makes me wonder what Kubiak and Phillips could’ve done if they’d continued to build our defense and found an average QB.

My H2H pts league uses short weeks around the ASB, so everyone on my team has 2G this week. Big bonus for dub-dubs. Need to pick 2 of the following: Faried (@BK, @Det); Bazemore (Orl, @Chi); A. Gordon (SA, @Atl); or S. Johnson (Tor, Den)?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Steve Stevenson: Hah luckily I didn’t get too bad, I didn’t drink much in the second half, which you could understand why 🙁

Ugh yeah that staff def didn’t work as well there, but they didn’t have Miller/Ware. Sheesh that was unfair.

Ah damn, short weeks are rough. I’ll go rooks – Gordon and Johnson. Faried is reallly close to Johnson, I guess depends on how much dubdubs are worth, but could swap those 2

      • Steve Stevenson says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: Thanks. Dubdubs are 15 pts (vs. 5 for blk/stl, 3 for ast, 2 for reb, 4 for 3pt…).

My heart goes out to you and your family for your tragic loss…

I had a tragic loss myself this past week vs. a weeeeeak team, which has led me to the idea that I should pawn out my perennial keeper, Bledsoe…

I’ve been offered G. Hill and Monta. My team currently looks like this:

PG Ish Smith, Phi PG DTD
    SG Marco Belinelli, Sac SG
SF Nicolas Batum, Cha SF, SG
PF Anthony Davis, Nor PF, C
C Myles Turner, Ind PF, C
    G
F DeMarcus Cousins, Sac C, PF
    PF/C Bobby Portis, Chi PF
    UTIL Alex Len, Pho C
UTIL Cody Zeller, Cha PF, C
    UTIL
    Bench Isaiah Thomas, Bos PG
    Bench Dwyane Wade, Mia SG
    Bench Jae Crowder, Bos SF
Bench Trevor Ariza, Hou SF, SG
Bench Tim Duncan*, SA PF, C O
Bench Draymond Green, GS SF, PF
IR Eric Bledsoe*, Pho PG, SG

Keepers would be Dray, Boogie, AD, maybe Batum, and possibly Turner as my prospect spot.

What are your thoughts on that trade? Can I do better or since this is crunch time, do you think I pull the trigger? Just this 2 week ASB matchup and then 1 more week till playoffs on week of 2/29.

    • JB Gilpin

      @v00dr00: Hah thanks man, I appreciate it…

Hopefully your loss wasn’t QUITE that brutal haha. Sure, I think you have solid keepers, and while Bledsoe is better than Batum next year, if you’re in it at all I love that haul for Bledsoe. I def think with you in the playoffs you’re taking that one

      • v00dr00 says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: Just accepted it! and I have the second best record by a WIDE margin, so that trade should help a lot me thinks! Thanks for the advice, I was on the fence. Love Mini-LeBron.

Walls my boy but how do you feel about wall and mudiay for Westbrook? Fought my way back from 12th to now a solid 6th place team with some key trades would this be a smart move heading into fantasy playoffs?

  11. Dorian S. says:
    (link)

Heya JB, sorry for your loss. 🙁 That’s gotta be a harsh one. Especially since if that defense doesn’t score those points, you guys win.

Also, apparently the guy wants to still talk. I somehow didn’t say Turner wasn’t available so he was just wondering. <_< So yeah, that was my bad apparently.

Also, I decided to try a trade with someone else who owns both Gobert and Drummond. Since the overalls are going to be much lower by seasons end in this league than in others for those two, I figured it wouldn't hurt to try giving up as much as I can and seeing how that works. Also as a clever strategy to tank since I'm not dead last and I want Ben Simmons! 🙁

    Heh, if I could somehow get Stanley(SF), Simmons (SF/PF), Draymond(SF/PF), Giannis(SF/PF), Zinger(PF/C), Myles(PF/C), Drummond(PF/C), and Gobert(C)… *drools*

If Stanley gets award SG (and he should since Myles got PF), I could even field that entire lineup at the same time! Although, this is assuming I could somehow manage to get lucky enough that the price of everyone other than Simmons accounts to 130 points. If so though, I got that locked in for 3 full seasons! Just find a point guard and my entire lineup is set! He doesn't even need to be that great!

Sorry, getting too excited over something that probably will not happen. But the dream! THE DREAM! …ahem.

Who I'm offering up for that trade is Sullinger, Lowry, Teague and Jeff Green if you are wondering. Lowry for cost, Sully because I need to give up someone young, with Teague and Green to hopefully add enough value to the deal to let it go through. The only downside is if the other guy realizes that both Gobert and Drummond will cost less than their actual values.

Oh, and speaking of dead last… I really shouldn't've called my team Deadlast Champs. Prophetic, since my teams will be, but I was more trying to be joking about it. 🙁 Not literal.

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@Dorian S.: Yup, really rough. Offense sputtered, bad blocking, etc etc. Haha, yeah if you’re full punt, then def go for it! And hell yeah for Stanley getting that elig!

So all 4 of those for Gobert and Drum? Seems good to me given values for sure.

Haha you should change it to 16-17 champs!

        • Dorian S. says:
          (link)

@JB Gilpin: Hopefully the Panthers can get the ship back together, since they have a good team. Though, Denver now scares me because with a good QB, that team could rock everyone. Though, probably aren’t going to get a QB in the draft.

Yeah, I’m in full punt mode now. No way I can climb out and snag a playoff spot, so I might as well jump ship and work myself into good shape.

We’ll see what happens. I’m probably not going to get it, but you never know.

            (link)

            (link)

@Fella: Yeah AD side. I don’t think Barton and Porter does enough to make Whiteside = AD. I get the AD risk but he’s still a top 5 guy to me, I wouldnt sell him for parts

hey jb, trying to keep you distracted with basketball: my dirk and harrison barnes for IT deal fell through cause somebody else swooped in with a better deal for IT, so I’m looking at doing dirk and harrison barnes for jae crowder and faab.

My thinking is that since it’s roto for a few weeks until the playoffs (switches to h2h), I figure steals is something I can catch up in (vs. %s) and that Dirks DNPs will hurt in playoffs anyways, so it’s better to give him up and upgrade to an elite(ish?) SF since I have a handful of mediocre SFs but plenty of big men/PF eligible guys in brow freak moose vala. Does that make sense?

@the gintern: Hah thanks man. Ugh, sucks you lost out on IT2/3, but getting Crowder feels like a good consolation. Maybe not quite elite, but Crowder is def at that 50 range these days, quite a breakout. Makes perfect sense!

Haha GET THAT SHIT OUT! Although Cousins had already flat footed it in a shitty layup, I think it was off the rim already…

Should i give away teague hayward and faried for paul george myles turner zach lavine? Also, Monroe or poison goose?

@TCHAO: Mehhh, it’s close. I think the discrepancy from Teague to LaVine throws it for me, I think I’d need a slightly better PG back. And I would indeed go Goose!

    Hey JB,

Sorry about your Panthers, man. Those turnovers killed them…

What are your thoughts on Blake Griffin? I know he’s out for a while and I just got a trade offer of his BG for my Gallinari. My instincts say to shut it down, but I just want to double check.

    I’m sitting comfortably at number one in a 9-cat 12-team H2H league

    Thanks in advance!

@That Feetwork: Thanks man, yeah sloppy game… Yup your instincts are right, you might only barely get him for the playoffs. Stay comfortable there at #1 with Gallo!

would you rather own Gerald Henderson or CoJo? thanks

@dom: and for Tuesday stream do you like Felton (UTA) Bayless (BOS) or Neto (@DAL, Burke ruled out)?

      • JB Gilpin

@dom: Probably Cojo still. And I’d stream Felton

Well tough break man! As an Aussie, I know little about the NFL but I was rooting for the panthers as I watched it at the hotel I’m staying at on my vacay in Borneo. Hooked up the HDMI cable to the tv and urrthang. Manning looks like he belongs in the Zeller fam.. So clean cut it hurts

So I’m a StanJo owner in my 9team roto. Dropped Porter for him but once this week is over, should I grab me Porter or KCP off the wire for those stls, 3s and pts? I love Stan’s ability to hit those cats and grab brds as asts. He had a gross game today but he’s been fine. Also, no need to stress about Taj right? I own him for Obrds and blks and he’s been a touch erratic but is prob a safer bet than Marvin, zeller, Len (unless he gets 30min), Tyson and sully right? Your thoughts please.

    • Lasandro says:

@jb Gilpin: for the taj ranks, please add Gordon to the list. He def gets the brds, but trust his ability to block as much as Taj?

@Lasandro: Haha except how he shamelessly plugged budweiser at the end. schmuck.

Well for Taj, I just don’t think he’s very high end, I would rather stream it. I might still lean Sully ROS, but still Taj for now. And yeah, I’d nab KCP as we head into the break.

Nahhhh don’t trust Gordon enough yet, def most upside though!

    Hey JB,

I wonder if I should pick up Markieff.

My team is: Pbev, Harden, Teague, Otto, Millsap, Draymond, Gobert, Rolo, Gorgui, Aaron Gordon, Clarkson, and Bazemore.

Should I drop anyone for Kieff? Or stay put?

Also, Payton is on the wire.. do you think he’ll continue to play well? Because I might drop Pbev for him (my team is a bit pg deficient, as you can see).

    Thank you!

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

@Mari: Yeah he needs to be owned, I’d likely lose Pbev. But yeah, would get Payton first. Man Kieff needs to be owned… Ummm, man trying to find who then to drop for Kieff. I guess Porter, but a tough one!

      • Mari says:
        (link)

        @JB Gilpin: Porter? Porter?! But I can’t!

      • Mari says:

        @JB Gilpin: How about Bazemore?

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:

          @Mari: Haha I know… I chose him over bazemore due to health concerns…. I still think it’s Porter 🙁

What’s up JB, been a while bro. Got a little question here for toy that I’m currently puzzled with. Who would you take between Covington Wesley and Tucker in a 12 team league pointing fg% and to’s and 3’s are my strong points? I own Covington

    • JB Gilpin

@Osouvi: Whats up man, good to see ya! I would hold Covington, fits Fg% and TO punt for sure!
