With my Top 200 Rankings now complete and listed in one easy-to-use list, it’s time to take a look at where I stand against the experts.  Every year, I ignore ADP and other ranking sets when making my top 200 list, so I’m not sullied with crazy opinions – many of which you can read about here!  I am unsullied, like Khaleesi’s war general dude!  That guy is boss!  Except for…  Well, ya know…

Stemming from a comment, I was asked more-or-less “who are your guys this year?”  And well, without really knowing ADPs or expert consensus, it was tough to answer.  So for the first time since I’ve been helming the Razzball ship (helm to 108!), I decided to put an article together, highlighting where I deviate from the septum.  Time for a nose job!  If Ryan Anderson breaks his nose this year, his new nickname should be Ryno-plasty!  Ok, focus JB, I know you’re pumped for basketball, but we have your calls to get to!  Here’s where I’m against the grain according to other experts’ ranks on FantasyPros:

Quick notes:

  • Not all rankers go to 200
  • “Every” expert doesn’t have their picks loaded in yet, so there could be a few guys I note here that I’m not the most polarizing on once other rankers add their lists…
  • If I was only higher or lower by 1 or 2 spots by guys in the mid-rounds, I didn’t include each and every one…  There’s still only ~10 experts in there, so I’m going to be higher and lower on a lot of guys the further the ranks went down.

Guys I’m Highest On:

Giannis Antetokounmpo (JB: 8 | Consensus: 13 | Worst: 31)

Yeah, I dunno who thinks Giannis is a late 3rd rounder, but sheesh!  Well, it’s those silly CBS people who play points leagues…  Wait, isn’t Giannis gonna be arguably BETTER in points leagues?!  I don’t get it…  Anywho, I gave him a 2-spot burst when The Duchess went down, and the next highest rankers (four of them) have him #10.  I think we’ll see a few edits getting the other perts with me on a single-digits rank.

Brook Lopez (JB: 22 | Consensus: 30 | Worst: 36)

Wowwwww, what in the wide world of f**k is going on here?!  I’m the highest on Brolo?!  ME?!  I call this guy clownfoot!  But he was healthy last year, the procedure is supposed to have a very high, long-term success rate, and really my only concern is if he’s traded at the deadline or shut down at the end again.  He was 23rd in per-game last year, and I see no reason for him to finish any different…

Gorgui Dieng (JB: 32 | Consensus: 64 | Worst: 86)

Dude, I don’t care what format you’re in, Gorgui at 86 is a travesty!  Choo Choo!  Come get on the Dieng Train with us!  Although, not so close to the engine, Leszek Bialecki!  Trying to steal my thunder!  He’s got Gorgui 34, while all other experts are absentmindedly outside the top 50.  I’ll be happy if they don’t fix this injustice!  Welcome to as many of my teams as possible, Dieng Train!

Chandler Parsons (JB: 38 | Consensus: 56 | Worst: 86)

I foresaw this one!  The more I looked at his stats as he got healthier and healthier last year, and the more I picture his situation on Memphis – tailor-made for Parsons – the more I kept boosting him up!  Yes, yes, I know he hurt a knee yet again, but I don’t think the Grizz would have invested if they didn’t see immediate impact.  Love his upside this year.

Jae Crowder (JB: 40 | Consensus: 63 | Worst: 181)

Yahoo – stop letting Dalton Del Don have a dictatorship over your pre-ranks!  Now we know why Yahoo HATES Crowder, and it is making him a value for people drafting their leagues if they have competitors who don’t scroll down on the draft sheet…  Crowder finished 32nd in per-game last year!  Metric-whoreish?!  Sure!  But he’s still young, last year was his first season as a starter, and his stats took a little hit when he had minutes limits with a late kankle.  I DON’T UNDERSTAND THE HATE!

Goran Dragic (JB: 46 | Consensus: 61 | Worst: 95)

Wowwwwwwwwww.  After all the grief I got not having him top-50, a few little tweaks got him to 46 for me and suddenly Razzball is the Dragic front-runners!  Crazy how perception of ranks can change when you compare them to the masses…

Elfrid Payton (JB: 55 | Consensus: 84 | Worst: 125)

Damn, what a range on Elfrid on the Shelfrid!  I’m not too surprised here, as I’ve gotten a few comments on my love for Senor Payton.  New regime in town with Vogel embracing him (could be lip service, but whatever), no more Dipo challenging for facilitating, and a chance at 34 MPG with great steals numbers given this defense…  I like it.

Jusuf Nurkic (JB: 64 | Consensus: 113 | Worst: 166)

If at first you don’t succeed, try try to make your ranks worse again?!  So last year was a dud, but his knee thing took wayyyyy longer to heal than was reported!  Not my fault!  I’m not a doctor, I’m a pool man!  Jamba Jus is going to look really saucy once people see how little Faried is playing, and the crazy stats Nurk is putting up!  I think his FG% bounces back and the stroke on his FT will improve as well.

Jeremy Lin (JB: 74 | Consensus: 105 | Worst: 120)

Wasn’t expecting this one!  The hate for Lin is Linsanity!  He’s a starting PG on a team absolutely bereft of playmaking ability, or of perimeter prowess.  He’s going to shoot 3s, get dimes, and honestly I don’t know if he’s *that* much worse than Reggie Jackson!  I have him ranked 20 lower, but I could easily see them have similar lines, except maybe in the scoring.

Aaron Gordon (JB: 76 | Consensus: 102 | Worst: 116)

I’m technically tied on this one; what is this Leszek Bialecki guy doing?!  Anyone read him on FB-Ninja?!  His rankings have some striking commonalities to mine with this Gorgui and Gordon similarity!  Well, we’re the only smart ones in the room at least, seeing big things for Gordon in the Paul George role.

Luol Deng (JB: 85 | Consensus: 112 | Worst: 115)

Look at that range!  9 of the 11 rankers have Deng between 105-115.  Only me and, you guessed it, Leszek have him top-90.  The Lakers need his scoring and a HUGE need at SF!  Played extremely well down the stretch and I think flourishes in an up-tempo system.

Joakim Noah (JB: 95 | Consensus: 131 | Worst: 140)

I guess I’m the only ranker to see Noah bounce back…  I know I argue against the injury-prone guys below so I’m a bit wishy-washy, but I like the AST upside from Noah and the %s taking this kind of nosedive is weird – I think they could bounce back up.  Remember he was a bench player last year!  Locked in as your starter now, on a team that can get him to rack up garbage assists on just kickouts to the other guys.

Marcus Morris (JB: 104 | Consensus: 146 | Worst: 146)

Something glitchy is going on with his player page; his consensus is a little higher than this.  But I am certainly the highest, I’m not sure why other perts hate him….  Solid scoring and doesn’t hurt you anywhere, chipping in a little as he goes across the board.

Justise Winslow (JB: 98 | Consensus: 134 | Worst: 154)

I imagine the tough news regarding Chris Bosh will have some rankers boost Winslow towards my range, but I always foresaw a big sophomore breakout from the monster athlete.  FT% will need a little more help given I could see added volume, and he doesn’t hit a ton of threes, but D stat upside with a bigger offensive role I think is worth a gamble right at 100.

Jerryd Bayless (JB: 118 | Consensus: 156 | Worst: 196)

Why is no one buying into JB?!  It’s not just the most baller initials, but such an opportunity!  Sixers need a PG who isn’t a USG whore and can hit 3s, and ya know what, JB to the rescue!  It’s not like I’m seeing 6 or 7 dimes a game, but like 4-4.5 with 2+ treys?!  That’ll work!

Kris Dunn (JB: 119 | Consensus: 157 | Worst: 213)

Huh, interesting…  Figured SOMEONE would have some rookie nookie here, especially since I still heart my Latin Love Rubio!  I’m just hoping he can find a combo guard role and rack up some stats vs. second units.

Guys I’m Lowest On:

Jimmy Butler (JB: 27 | Consensus: 17 | Highest: 9)

Apparently experts only play in leagues where you get a season-average across the whole season – games played doesn’t matter!  And then add Wade and Rondo’s USG in the mix, and somehow his ranking doesn’t change from last year?  Don’t get me wrong, I love some Buckets in real life, but no way I’m passing up the guys in my first two rounds for his risk.

Kyrie Irving (JB: 29 | Consensus: 21 | Highest: 17)

Huh, weird…  I thought I kinda LIKED Kyrie going into this year!  He was 11th in per-game in 14-15, but I don’t love his low-AST or the drop in STL last year – yes he was hurt, but he doesn’t offer the big treys that Kemba and Lillard offer either…

Klay Thompson (JB: 42 | Consensus: 28 | Highest: 15)

Yeah, I’m not too surprised at this one.  SOMEONE has to have stats fall off, and I think it’s Klay, who moves back into ultimate ThrAGNOF territory.  I don’t get the infatuation anyway – D stats fell off last year and he had some annoying stretches – very metrics-whorey with the low TO and good % on 3s.  CBS again with the polar opposite outlier…  Is Butler at 9 and Klay at 15 their ranks from LAST year (it’s not, they have KAT 5…)?!

Greg Monroe (JB: 97 | Consensus: 71 | Highest: 58)

I don’t have much to add here – the Bucks hate him, they want to trade him as bad as the Kings wanna deal Gay, and I don’t like his outlook on another team in a late-preseason or mid-season trade.  Bleh.

Jabari Parker (JB: 100 | Consensus: 74 | Highest: 66)

Gasp!  Is it a bird?!  A plane?!  An aneurysm?!  I just moved Parker up too!  What are the experts buying here?!  He was 114th in per-game last year, and yes he was better down the stretch, but he doesn’t shoot 3s, doesn’t get enough D stats, and is nothing but a pretty blah scorer!  Pass.

Otto Porter (JB: 101 | Consensus: 77 | Highest: 35)

Well, now I see what Yahoo was doing with their jacked up ranks – just letting Dalton Del Don put whatever he wanted in there!  Porter pre-ranked at 36 on Yahoo and his 35th rank from Del Don as a big outlier here makes sense…  I don’t get the hype, he was only a stalwart when Beal was hurt!  Pass times two.

Dwight Howard (JB: 109 | Consensus: 81 | Highest: 59)

No shock here, I’m the lowest on Howard every season.  Sure, I was wrong last year, but I wasn’t the year before!  Older, more tread on the tires, new team, you have to punt…  Pass times three.

Steven Adams (JB: 133 | Consensus: 88 | Highest: 51)

Whaaaaaaa?!  What are experts expecting here, 20/10 with 2 blocks a game?!  Sheesh!  This is Steven MF Adams, not Big Country Bryant Reeves!  Awwww, boooo, Big Country didn’t block enough…  Anywho, I think his real-life impact and playoff performance are clouding this rank.  Again, Dalton Del Don is nuts with a 51 ranking…  Andre Drummond 150 spots WORSE than Adams…?  More below!

Andrew Bogut (JB: 151 | Consensus: 114 | Highest: 68)

Huh?!  Why do I have to be the one that doesn’t like Andrew Bogut?!  If someone is gonna rank Bogut at 68 when you can’t conceivably expect him to even PLAY 68 games…  I just don’t get it.

Eric Gordon (JB: 185 | Consensus: 120 | Highest: 83)

I see the potential as he can backup both the Rockets guards in a D’Antoni system, but jfc, has none of these experts ever OWNED Eric Gordon?!  Get ready to be disappointed for 1/3 of the season due to injuries…

 Other Ranks to Note:

Andre Drummond (JB: 21 | Consensus: 44 | Lowest: 199)

Haha, someone is just being silly…  I get not ranking him high in Roto-terms, but he’s still draftable!  Ha!

Amir Johnson  (JB: 119 | Consensus: 186 | Highest: 118)

Dude.  This Leszek dude it TOTALLY cramping my style.  I swear a day or two ago I was highest on Amir, then suddenly I’m not…  Hmmm…  Although I am suffering from massive sunburn after going to the Panthers game yesterday, my brain is a little boiled!  I could be remembering that one wrong…  Either way, we’re the highest two, and a solid role should be there.

Kelly Olynyk (JB: n/a | Consensus: 145 | Highest: 107)

My boy Leszek goes completely his opposite way here!  I just don’t know when he’ll play!  Amir is going to be solid at PF, then they said they might play Jaylen Brown a little there…  And no way he’s gonna do much at C with Big Al manning it down…  Not touching Olynyk of Nazareth.

Wilson Chandler (JB: n/a | Consensus: 163 | Highest: 122)

Really, Dalton Del Don, #122 for a scrub who isn’t gonna play much?!  I used to love Chandler, but the Nuggets are obviously going in a completely different direction…  As did Chandler’s hip last year…

Anyone else I missed if you checked out FantasyPros?  I didn’t have a great system to see my highests/lowests, other than just clicking on all the player pages…  And what do you think of the guys I’m on the bookends of?  Shoot your comments below, and happy Monday, Razzball Nation!

    Hey

Against my better judgement I decided to sign up for some espn leagues and wowowowow drafting there is twilight zone ish

Solid 3/4 of drafters are selecting klay in first two rounds. More shocking is I broke my rule is five teams of selecting my own craptors in drafts BECAUSE jonas at > 76 is just Lithuanian highway robbery. Turner/russel/lin/payton never leave the board before 100

Not sure what espn does to reassess someone who wins multiple leagues but an interview w cari champion in her dressing room sounds about right.

Del don is a few yrs behind in his ranks and some if the guys you def have to toggle of bc they skew ranks so much

@Osama: Haha I can bet! Yeah I usually avoid ESPn just because I have so many leagues on Yahoo, that I accidentally don’t check ESPN enough. Hahaha yeah I’m not as huge on JV as others, but he definitely shouldn’t last that long! Wowwwww, yeah Russell I would think would have the buzz, same with Myles… Lol I hope you win that prize my man!

Jb,I love the your site and the articles you put out.

What do you think J Anderson of Dallas? Will he have enough playing time to make any fantasy impact? Potential 1/1/1 guy?

Thanks. Keep up the good work.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Nova: Thanks so much man, appreciate ya stopping by! He’d need Barnes to go down for that to happen, plain and simple. I think they run Barnes to death, and Wes Matthews is a big MPG guy too, so that’s why I didn’t rank him. I like his upside though! If Barnes gets hurt, I could totally see 1/1/1

      • jay says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: goinna go out on a limb that Dallas plays a Powell/Barnes frontline enough and Anderson is worth a last round pick on a 14T.

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Nova: I cant find stats for him at any level that woupd make me think Justin Anderson would get to 1.0 blocks, even in 36 min. The steals are a little easier but he wontbe high end. 7 DLeague games last year, 38 min per game and he avg about 0.5 a steal and 0.5 a block. Uf he could do 1/1 in the NBA those should be closer to 1.5 in the DLeague. Nope im going well under for the dstats.

      • Slim

        Slim says:
        (link)

@Slim: For comparison sake Josh Richardson played just 4 dleague games last year at 38 min per… He went 2.5/1.25 in stl/blk.

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@jay: @Nova: @Slim: Yeah you’re right, blocks at 1.0 per might be rich. I think D stats could happen though.

jay – so you’re saying Powell at the 5 and Barnes at the 4 and they go uber-smallball a lot? Maybe sommmme, but Dirk is still gonna play, and he could factor into that scenario too…

        • jay says:
          (link)

          @JB Gilpin: @JB Gilpin:

Yeah I think so. Barring an injury to either Barnes or Matthews, I see Dirk in the 28-30 mpg this year.

@Slim – Didn’t Anderson avg. .5 blks in 12min on 55 games last year? Don’t think he gets to 24 mins this year barring inj to the starters but I think he can get to 18-20 mins. He avg’d 1.2 blks in his freshman yr, .8 his 2nd yr.and 0.5 in his 3rd year at Virginia. Didn’t follow him in college so not sure if there was a “reason” for the regression in blks.

regardless, I don’t think he gets to 1/1/1. but i think he avg lower in stls vs blks.

          • JB Gilpin

            JB Gilpin says:
            (link)

@jay: Yeah that seems right on Dirk.

Yup 25 blocks in 647 minutes… Still feels a little small-samply, maybe he played against some bad second units in his frsh year and same rookie year in NBA? I dunno…

            • jay says:
              (link)

@JB Gilpin: yeah no clue. small samply indeed. we’ll find out soon enough if those were flukes or not. have him at 1/0.7/0.9 3s, stls, blks

              • JB Gilpin

                JB Gilpin says:
                (link)

@jay: That’s still pretty sexy, I dunno if he can quite get the run for that, but it’s possible if Carlisle will play him enough!

          • JB Gilpin

            JB Gilpin says:
            (link)

@jay: Hmmmm interesting. I dunno if it changes too much though, although maybe raise my expectation of Powell a bit! But yeah, it would open minutes for Anderson too…

            • Kiwi says:
              (link)

              @JB Gilpin:

Just on Justin Anderson. When Parsons went down at the end of the season, Anderson played 25 mins p/g for the final 9 games.
              Averaged 8.2 pts, 0.7 3’s, 5.7 Rebs, 1.6 Asts, 0.6 Stls, 1.2 Blks on 45.6% shooting.
To me that screams 1/1/1 potential and I think Carlise finds him the minutes.

              • JB Gilpin

                JB Gilpin says:
                (link)

@jay: @Kiwi: Mehhhhh, I know I use April stats to like some guys (Tim Frazier), but that feels a little fluky to me – mainly the 25 MPG part. Carlisle barely played my by Dwight Powell last year, I dunno how much he embraces the rooks

  3. OldNavy says:
    (link)

I was looking to draft Myles Turner at 52 but he was drafted at 47 in a 20 team league. Yahoo has him at 107 which to me is crazy.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@OldNavy: Damnnnnnn, 47?! That’s pretty early, and I love me my Myles! Agree, outside the top 100 is nuts, Yahoo is out of their minds on some guys haha

  4. OldNavy says:
    (link)

I think you are wrong on Dwight Howard. I do like Bayless and Dunn. Dunn is the future at PG but it looks like he could start at SG which will have great usage for him.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@OldNavy: Yeah Tibby Tibs sounds like he wants to play Dunn a lot. I dunno, Dwight’s mix of FT punt and TO issues always bother me. We’ll see how he plays in ATL

      • jay says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: Don’t understand the whole idea that Dunn is a lock to replace Rubio at PG. He isn’t that much younger. Sure Rubio did play in Europe before here but barring health/injury concerns, I don’t understand the whole Wolves drafted Dunn and thus Rubio’s days at PG are numbered.

Rubio’s FG is certainly ugly but for years Kemba’s FG% was atrocius, I’d trade Kemba’s 3s and scoring back then for Rubio’s top tier Assts and Stls.

End of the day, Wolves don’t need Rubio to shoot at a high %age and high rate with the scorers that team has. His court vision and defense is more than sufficient in my opinion.

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@OldNavy: @jay: Only reason I worry is that they seem to have dangled Rubio after he signed that contract every offseason/draft day/trade deadline. Of course, rumors are only that – rumors. But glad you’re with me on the Rubio love! I just like Dunn because I could see them playing combo guard sets and play those 2 and LaVine most of the G minutes.

    hey guys,

fantasypros experts updated their rankings today, so their consensus/worst rankings are all changed. so don’t be surprised when you click the fantasypros link above.

doesn’t mean that i won’t read anyway. thanks for the article.

@shaq: Oh cool, thanks for the update! Yeah I knew this would likely have some differences once I got it published (did a lot of grunt work on Friday). But I think it will still hold up on the calls for the most part

  6. Drez1 says:
    (link)

Hey, what do you guys think about James Ennis in a 20 team h2h dynasty? I’d be dropping Deyonta Davis, and although I like his upside, I can’t really afford to stash anymore youngins. That said, if Deyonta’s upside is worth holding onto, then I don’t mind keeping him either, lol. Thanks.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Drez1: I like Deyonta’s upside too. If you’re not looking to stash though, I imagine even in a 20er I could find a few diamonds in the rough. Any of my top 200 out there?

      • Drez1 says:
        (link)

        @JB Gilpin:

Jamychal Green will be if he clears waivers. That’s it though. I guess it’s between Ennis, Deyonta, and possibly Jamychal. I think Ennis could have a good sized role this season, and it could get interesting if Parsons gets hurt.

Do you think Deyonta can cut into Jamychal’s minutes this season, or is he too raw? Ugh, my brain hurts from trying to spell their names correctly, lol.

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Drez1: Ohhhhh def like him! man, everyone hates the Grizzlies in your league apparently! Haha. Well, we KNOW Gasol is gonna have issues to start the season, and they have such little depth up front, that I think Green is a lock to play more, and has shown more in his latest run. Haha yeah their names are hard, just last name them both 🙂 I think Davis is headed to D-League, too raw

  7. kai says:
    (link)

i do think that’s a tad low for Kyrie. he won’t get 6 assists probably, but with news that Mo Williams IS retiring, and with Kay Felder their only backup PG, he could easily get 35-40 mpg

    • BopBop SimSim says:
      (link)

      @kai:

why would they play him 35-40 minutes. that is 100% not remotely happening

      • kai says:
        (link)

        @BopBop SimSim:

Because the only other point guard on their roster is a 5’10” rookie? What’s your plan for keeping his minutes down? Idk, obviously LeBron will handle much of the pg responsibility, but kyrie is gonna get all the minutes he can handle (until the cavs sign Rio or something)

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@BopBop SimSim: @kai: Yeah I agree with BopBop, there’s now way the Cavs are going to play any of their guys that many minutes. They’ll just scrub it up at PG, especially late in blowouts.

That said, I was surprised I was the low guy as I mentioned, I thought I kinda liked him. It’s making me re-think moving him up a couple

  8. kai says:

    Hey team,

My 12 man league had its draft on the weekend (yeah we draft early..) and ended up with the following:

    1st: Giannis
    2nd: Draymond
    3rd: Oladipo
    4th: Kristaps
    5th: Gorgui
    6th: Elfrid Payton
    7th: Jabari Parker
    8th: Joakim Noah
    9th: Jusuf Nurkic
    10: Zach LaVine
    11: Buddy Hield
    12: Tim Frazier

    Any thoughts or feedback?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Dylan: Hah I had a draft a couple weeks ago for the first RCL! Definitely interesting to draft early. Whoaaaaa, Kristaps in the 4th! I think you went a little high on Parker, but you did need the scoring. I think your Pts and 3s are a little light, FG% might have some issues at times too. I would keep an eye out for the early season efficient scorers, but if you nab a couple of those, you’ll be strong!

@JB Gilpin: Yeah KP in the fourth was a big surprise, especially considering how much the blogs have been talking him up.

Thanks for the feedback, I’m hoping to just use hield and frazier for some short term run and jump on a decent waiver pick when they start to slow down.

I think I remember Slim saying Jusuf is gonna be a tale of two halves on the last podcast. If he starts slower than expected do you reckon his upside will make him worth holding the whole season? Or reckon he is worth dropping in order to win match ups early on to ensure a finals place?

@Scott: @BopBop SimSim: While Deron is healthy, I actually think your 3s are fine with Klay out there. While I have Klay well below consensus, I still think he hits a ton of 3s. FT% and TO are great, I think your AST are a little light and you’re low on REB+BLK. I’d almost consider punting AST, something I don’t do too often, and trade Elfrid for a big. Maybe you can luck out and get like Gobert for him. That would be the way I would go.

More D stats, same upside in 3s/scoring, more reb… Although, Capela really throws a wrench in your otherwise great FT shooting, Fournier is a better FT guy… I think I’d still do it though, but te FT factor makes it closer

I’m glad Razzball is back at full swings, filling a void for the past 6 months….

In a Dynasty/Keeper 9cat h2h league (keep up to 5, can’t choose round, meaning if you keep 5, you start picking at 6):

I’m planning on keeping Harden, Porzingis, Kemba, Oladipo. Do you think Jabari is worth keeping at 5th? Or do you think his upside will be limited? Also, given my 4 keepers, will I need to punt assists? Or I should focus on getting a solid PG with my 5th/6th round picks? I know you hate Rolo, but he might be a good late round pick to strengthen my BLKs. What do you think I should focus on for my first couple picks?’

    Thanks as always!!

@Zinger: Hah I’m happy to be back in basketball mode! Baseball winding down, football is already annoying… Let’s get to hoops! Haha.

Yeah I’m not too big on Parker – low D stats, low 3s scoring… I’d let him go for that pick.

Def no need to punt AST! Harden/Kemba/Oladipo is a great start in dimes. Your punt/main issue is clearly FG% to me. Maybe another blocks source? Nerlens Noel maybe? And your TO are gonna be high with Harden, so he would make sense, although lack of clarity with PHI bigs is so friggin annoying haha.

Rolo is fine, but yeah, I like the bigs with iffy FG% as targets a lot more. Nurk a few rounds later would be beautiful. Hope that helps!

      • Zinger says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: Good point on Nurk, the team that has him has 5 keepers that he will most likely keep. Where should I grab Nurk though? My pick position will be Round 5-9th, Round 6 – 3rd, Round 7 – 9th, Round 8 – 3rd. 3rd pick in round 6 might be a tad too early huh?

@Zinger: Gotcha, ummmm, man it really depends on who else is on the board. I imagine some better prospects fall through the cracks of 5 keepers at the 3rd pick though. Definitely would get him if avail by the 7th though.

    Hey JB…

Love the article and analysis man, you do a great job!

I am also in a dynasty/keeper league where you keep 4 players, rounds 1-4 in the draft basically, so you start drafting in round 5…. H2H, 9 categories. No restrictions on who you can keep or for how long you can keep them.

I am set on my top 3, DeAndre, Knight, and McCollum… But then I have to choose between Beal and Mudiay. I know you like Beal much higher than Mudiay in your rankings, but I am curious what your opinion is, if I should stick with the better player in Beal and hope he stays healthy? Or if I should go with Mudiay and hope he busts out this year or next and I can keep him long term.

My draft is coming up in a few weeks. Obviously have to punt FTs with Jordan, but any ideas what to focus on in the draft, especially my first few picks?

    • The Brick Wall says:
      (link)

16 teams in the league by the way, to give you an idea of people that will probably be available to choose from

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@The Brick Wall: Appreciate that man, thanks for dropping by! Yeah, the FT issues of Mudiay is making it close. Plus AST will be a draft need. Ya know what, I think Mudiay actually fits the build better, I’ll swing for the fences and say keep him! Plus in a 16er, having a bedrock PG is a huge plus. Glad it was a deeper league or else you’d be in bad trouble with those keepers in like a 12er haha. Beyond those 4, I would look for scoring/assists early and fill out with FT punt bigs later ala Capela

        • The Brick Wall says:
          (link)

Thanks for the advice JB… yea I inherited this team last year, and my keepers were Knight, Kobe, Dwight, Gay… So, after several trades, that is what I came away with for my keepers this year. So hopefully I upgraded and will continue to upgrade. The trick is finding that diamond in the rough that turns into a top 20-25 player in a year or two, because all the current top 25 players are on somebodies team and are rarely traded away. Kind of a tough question to answer, but do you see anybody outside of your top 50 or 75 that could make that run into the top 20 in a few years?

          • JB Gilpin

            JB Gilpin says:
            (link)

@The Brick Wall: Any time! Ugh yeah that’s a brutal team to take over haha. Outside my top 50, Aaron Gordon sticks out. I still think Wiggins could get there – so young, and flashes D stats at times. Myles Turner, especially if he can bang treys. Kris Dunn has multi-cat upside if given a starting role. And here’s my best shot at a deep one – Bobby Portis. Can hit 3s, has a good FT%, D stats upside… Needs a devoted starting role obviously, but he’s my deep call for ya.

  15. Peaniece says:

JB what are your thoughts on Patrick beverley now that James Harden is the starting point guard? Also, how is this going to affect the rockets?

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Peaniece: It sounds like Beverley is going to start next to Harden irregardless of who is the “PG”. The big takeaway for me is they need Beverley’s defense, Harden covering a PG would be really bad, Eric Gordon guarding a PG would be arguably worse. So I imagine Beverley gets his 30 minutes without issue. The assists will be low (3-4) but the 3s will be high end and he offers a solid stl/blk combo with low TOs. When it’s all said and done the metrics will once again call Beverley a top 100 guy.

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@Peaniece: @Slim: Yeah kinda what Slim said – it’s kinda the minutia of labels. They’re both starting and both guards, and Harden already had the massive USG and AST totals.

Agree on the metrics spitting out top 100 for Pbev, but missed time is a BIG issue for him, which is why he’s out of my top 100. But a little sliver of added upside in a D’Antoni system

I love the first eight players on my team, and I’m not so sure with the last three which are Kief RHJ and Capela. I’m ready to roll the dice with RHJ and Capela, but damn Kief… Is Kief a really a hold over guys like Lyles, Lawson, Biyombo, MK, JoshRich? I mean how can Kief help my team?? Josh Richardson could be the best among the players I mentioned, and I could use him as a trade bait though. Or am I just undervalueing Kieff? Lol

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Dante Green: Yeahhhhh I think so. I have him ranked a good bit ahead of those guys, and he was better on the Wizards. Full offseason to gel there and I think we could have a bounce back, he’s still only 27 I think too. Do you have an IL spot? I would think you could probably drop RHJ for J-Rich, stash J-Rich, and get RHJ back.

      • Dante Green says:
        (link)

        @JB Gilpin:

Yea, my heart says I should drop Kieff but my mind (logic) is telling me to hold, so I guess I’m holding. Hah

My league does have an IL spot, and I actually I’ve been thinking the same thing, if I should drop RHJ for JRich. 80% of my league is still idle, maybe because they’d like to see first what the team they drafted is capable of before making any move. However, in my opinion, it’s better if I could snag someone from the wire this early without engaging in any bidding war.

One thing though, what if I’m placed in a situation where JRich comes back and I need to drop one of my guys to make room for him? Hah Who should it be??

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Dante Green: Fantasy hoops is always a mind game!

Well, that’s the advantage of making an IL stash. After J-Rich’s first game or two, if everyone is playing well, just lose J-Rich! And if Capela is fizzling out, or RHJ, etc, you can wait to make the call then

Thanks JB, nice informative read as always… wanted to ask you whether these ranks work as well in Head to Head Points League. We have a private league of 14, very competitive (lots of trash talk, roastng etc. goin on), I got to pick as no 7 on draft… what are your opinions who should I go for… must admit, you got me quite eager on the Alphabet, although I am weighing in the possibility to pick Kawhi or Whiteside insted… or any other heavy hitters from previous seasons left

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Dragic Johnson: I think the basic ideas still work – sleepers and busts that I like – but there is some differences. I think in Pts I like Giannis for sure first. Although Pts leagues have such wildly different settings that it’s tough to know for sure, i.e. as long as TO aren’t weighed too high, def give me Giannis.

      • Dragic Johnson says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: Here’s how the scoring in out private league looks like. Any opinion is greatly appreciated. Also any pointers on which ranking should I focus on, would be great…
