Ohhhhh Brad Stevens.  You look like you’re 12 and coach like you’re… 12.  But at least, unlike Larry Drew, his inconsistencies have been pretty centralized to the… center.  I need to work on expanding my vocab!  First there was the Vitor Faverani early (albeit very brief) breakout, then Kelly Olynyk got some starts, followed by a really nice run from Jared Sullinger.  I at first brushed him off, but then had Yahoo highlights for a Celtics game and was really impressed.  I liked how he saw the floor, played hard, a nice-looking shot, and just overall looked like a guy that would be a must-own.  Then after some flagrant fouls and rough-n-tough play racking up the personals, Stevens threw him to the bench.  From December 22nd to January 8th he was brutal and I had to jump ship as well.  And of course right after that happens, he goes for 21/11 and 14/10 over the weekend, with a pair of treys in both.  The first comment on Friday was asking about dropping Sullinger and I said “12 team with a solid squad I might hold, but if I had injuries or needed production now, he’s droppable. I think he is bad a few weeks, but gets back into the starting lineup.”  That’s me quoting me!  My timetable was off, turned out he was done being bad/underplayed, but I still had some faith.  I think he needs to be owned in most leagues with double-double upside, a perimeter game, and I think the assists come back (only 1 in the past 4, but was at 2.3 dimes a game in December).  Let’s all just hope Stevens doesn’t keep sullying fantasy hoops for us… Here’s what else I saw over the weekend (through tears of sadness after the refs rigged the 49ers a playoff win) in fantasy basketball:

Kevin Durant – Had a spill and almost broke his wrist on Saturday.  He left with a brace after the game, and luckily it’s the left wrist and he was able to finish the game.  Injuries need to stop claiming all these lives!

Marc Gasol – Set to practice Monday.  Last chance to buy low for a nice second half.  I think he will be a great add if anyone that has held onto him isn’t so convinced.

Kawhi Leonard – Woop woop!  This is what I’m talkin’ about!  Rainbow line of 17/6/2/2/2 on 8-11 shooting with a trey.  This is what he gives you when he plays 36+ minutes, Popp!

Corey Brewer – Two straight bad ones.  Last night wasn’t helped by the Spurs blowing out the Wolves, but Chase Budinger is getting PT and it’s tough to be too optimistic.  You like the treys and swipes though!  I think those will continue even in smaller workloads.

Mike Scott – The non-Dundler Mifflin Michael Scott got 29 minutes off the bench for 15/4/1/1/0.  Double-digit scoring in 5 of the last 6, boards a tad, hits threes, and gets some steals.  Worth a look in deep 12-teamers and beyond if that fits what ya need.

Courtney Lee – The Grizz like their new shizz! Near rainbow 15/1/2/2/2 in his 32 minute start last night.  Actually three straight fantasy-usable games from C Lee.  C was Low in Green, the change in his pocket wasn’t enough, now he has a Voice in Memphis.  The convoluted joke fairy just bitch slapped me on that one!

James Johnson – I like James Johnson.  I like multi-cats. I like 7/4/3/3/2 lines with a three.  I like rainbow lines.  I don’t like how crowded things will be when Marcy Marc Gasol gets back.  If only dates went this well!

Ed Davis – Part of the revolving door of fantasy glimpses that carousel round-n-round for Memphis’ big men.  The Grizzlies are kinda like The Walking Dead.  No, not because they’re old!  But because I like them, they have flashes of greatness, but then something else is good and the first thing is bad.  Like Carl when he starts a season with a silencer on his gun, but then later he is all whiney and Rick won’t let him have a gun.  Then he gets an assault rifle and helps his dad mow em down!  Or the prison, which when they get there is awesome and rife with opportunity, only to squash it with a flu outbreak, then back up with a tank assault.  The flu? Really?!  Anyway, Davis has had double-doubles every other game in 2014.  Creepy!  Only 6/5 last night.  Part of the “scared how minutes will go when Gasol is back” bunch.

Luol Deng – 12/5/2/1/0 and not gettin’ it done for his new team.  Womp womp.

Slim’s Andray Blatche vs. JB’s Tristan Thompson – Speaking of womp womp!  TT 6/3/0/0/1 last night?!  What are you doin’ to me?!  Blatche 14/12/1/1/0 his last two, TT 24/18/2/0/1.  It’s like Blatche is sinking to TT’s level!  I don’t feel great about it, but marginal lead thus far.

C.J. Miles – I was unsure how the minutes would play out with Deng getting there, and C.J. has been fine.  14 Pts in the start last night, 17 the night before, but is still a ThrAGNOF.  Not doing much else.

Jason Thompson – Pulled down 16 boards last night.  Actually has had 4 pretty usable games in a row.  He’s not going to all the sudden bust out, but a good depth guy in deeper leagues right now.

Josh Smith – Smooooooooove bitch, get out the way!  Someone has probably made that joke before… But no one has two super-rainbow lines this year (4 of each cat)!  Or double-rainbow…?  I guess double rainbow makes sense since those actually exist.  A nasty 22/13/7/4/5 line.  I had highlights for this game, and he was all over the place.  This one on Michael Carter-Williams was pretty nasty.  Then had a game-winner on Saturday.  There were a lot of comments asking about selling Smith, and while sometimes he hurts ya, games like this make him tough to give up.

Kris Humphries – So easy to make fun of, especially after Blake Griffin climbed over him, but after that game 16/14/0/2/3 Friday then rainbow 10/8/2/2/3 on Saturday.  I said yesterday I would take Blatche over him.  I think I’ll stick by that ROS, but right now I would want to hump.

Brian Roberts – 9/7/1 then 7/3/8 in his two starts.  Why I was pessimistic in my  assessment.  Just won’t be enough of an impact guy.  I’m sure a few nice ones will filter in here-and-there, but feels good to be right on this one so far!

Dirk Nowitzki – Put up a 40-burger.  Getting harder and harder for him to outscore his age, but he did it here!  Man, if you got him at his ADP you are rockin’ like it’s Oktoberfest.

Evan Fournier – Moving west, viva la Fournier!  18/5/2 on Saturday and double-digits in 4 of 5.  The Shaw-shank Redemption (TM) where Brian Shaw solidified his rotations have given the Nugs 5 straight wins and consistent fantasy value.  Worth an add in 14-teamers.

Giannis Antetokounmpo – Larry Drew needs a Shaw-shank redemption.  Or at least, just the shank…  After three bad games, Drew finally gave Giannis a big run and he got him to the Greek!  Rainbow line!  13/11/5/2/2.  He’s going to have a ton in his career.  Especially after Drew gets fired.

D.J. Augustin – Move over Colorado and Washington, because Chicago’s got it legal too!  D.J. with a sick dimebag Saturday for a 20/12 game.  He’s been a big asset for me in questions, I believed!  It’s not such a Full House for D.J.!  He’ll get his run!

Mason Plumlee – Got his first start on Saturday.  And it was pretty nice.  6/5/0/2/4 with no TOs shooting 3-5.  Didn’t even play a minute in the past two games.  Logged just seconds.  Sucks for his averages!  Not too much to see unless Kevin Garnett misses a few more games with incontinence.

Kevin Seraphin – 18/5/1 out of nowhere on Saturday.  Dude, literally wrote that then saw Rotoworld used the same description.  Shared conscious!  But, not seeing anything lasting.  The faster they rise, the harder they Seraphin Falls.

I hope everyone had a better weekend than me, as I broke my TV after throwing my shoe at it during the Panthers game.  Good luck to everyone this week!

So at what point did you throw the shoe?

I am 7-4 in a 10-team H2H, with a good team but not elite for the league, and I need SFs. I traded Josh Smith, Aaron Afflalo is hobbling around, and my other SF is James Anderson. I’ve cycled through Tyreke Evans and Martell Webster. I’m looking at Mike Dunleavy.

So who’s a good sell right now out of the following, for a better SF than I have?

    Zach Randolph
    Greg Monroe
    Marc Gasol
    Serge Ibaka

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

@Sherm: Good question. The pass intereference in the end zone/12 men not called/Vernon getting the TD, somewhere in there haha. Man, I like all those guys. Z-Bo maybe is the best given age. I wouldn’t sell Gasol right now, love Ibaka, and like Monroe a lot.

  2. Slim

    Slim says:

Blatche is losing minutes for some reason. Those 2 games stats were in like 23 minutes total. I’m not sure why he’s losing minutes but I’m not about to wait around and see if it changes. I’d drop him for about anyone who’s hot right now. Tristan… in those 2 games only 1 TO and 2 good %s. If anyone is buying that then they can have him. I’m about done with all things Cavs. I wouldn’t give Kyrie or Varejao away but even they can’t be trusted.

I’ve always like Fournier and I’m really glad he’s running with the opportunity. He has the potential to work his way into an even larger role. In a dynasty things are really looking up for him.

I didn’t add or even mention Roberts anywhere. Bleh. Good backup. That’s about it. He is no Candace Cameron!

I guess I’m back on the Antetok love train, assuming Drew will leave him alone. The lineup I want to see is Knight, Antetok, Middleton, Henson, Sanders, and I want them all to see 30+ minutes nightly. Well, from a fantasy perspective at least…

@Slim: You and me (and prob everyone) both, re: Bucks lineup. That Larry Screw..

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@Slim: Haha yeah, but my argument agains Blatche was unsure role. Our deathmatch be going well!

Agree on Fournier, looks good out there. Roberts is bleh. What I said last week after Jrue injury too :) Totally agree on that lineup. Ilyasova should be a 6th man and play 20+ minutes only when his shot is hot. Looks awful everywhere else. Me and Slim and @Lasandro: need to start a petition!

        • Lasandro says:
          (link)

@JB Gilpin @Slim: What if Screw has Ily on his fantasy team? Y’know, these whacky rotations may all make sense if word leaks out that he’s some major fantasy nut and is trying to screw the comp in his league. He’d be the type to have drafted Ily with a top 4 pick.. jerkface #LarryGate

          • JB Gilpin

            JB Gilpin says:
            (link)

@Lasandro: Haha he played Giannis low 3 straight games just to trade for him!

  3. Michael B says:
    (link)

Blatche was in foul trouble. 5 on Saturday. 2 early fouls on Friday, so he only played like 3 minutes in the first half. He managed to have a decent 2nd half.

I like Antetok a lot, but sorry, Drew’s gonna mess with him again. I’m not going to keep falling for this.

I had a sick Saturday. I’m in a ridiculously deep league where I own Tony Snell and owned Chris Douglas Roberts. Combined 46 minutes, 0 points, 0 rebounds, 1 assist, 0 steals, 0 blocks. Crazy. In a weird way, I was upset that CDR got that late assist.

    • Michael B says:
      (link)

Sorry, those first two were in reply to Slim.

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Michael B: I was thinking 12 teamers or so about moving on from Blatche. In a deep league I’m willing to see how things work out. Nice to hear it was foul trouble and not a coaches decision. Of course, I use the term ‘coach’ loosely when talking about the Nets…

Antetok is just so talented. I don’t usually say this about a coach but I hope Drew gets canned. There is so much fantasy goodness on that team. It’s really hard to quit it.

That is impressively bad. I had some duds on Saturday too… Sanders, Jackson, Adams. At least it’s guys i’m willing to give a long leash to. Snell isn’t going anywhere for you but CDR… his playing time is fleeting.

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@Michael B: @Slim: Yeah I mean deeper than 12 team Blatche is fine. Just hatin’ on him versus TT since we have @Slim: our bet on. Hahaha on CDR and Snell. Tough to accomplish that. Agree with you guys on Giannis, loved his raw talent heading into the year but knew it would be inconsistent. So annoying.

  4. Jesse says:

Trade Bradley beal for joakim Noah? My team is Rubio, lebron, Kevin Martin, Aldridge, bargnani, it2, Blake griffin, Tobias Harris, oladipo, sanders, Damian lillard and kobe

    Thanks

Who’s the winner of a Noah, Knight, StepHenson, Roberts for Rondo, Iggy, Jordan Crawford, RoLo trade? And would you say it’s close?

    Thanks

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

@Prodders: I like Noah Knight side, and not too close for me

      • Prodders says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: I agree. It’s a trade in my league that’s just made my main competition a lot stronger I think. Pah.

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:

            • JB Gilpin

              (link)

@Dr. Doolittle: Brian Roberts, starting PG for NO right now. Nice 19 Pts tonight, but doesn’t really do much else but score.

  7. Willie Stone says:
    (link)

In a 10-team 9-cat league, my Reggie & Monroe for Lillard. Hickson’s available on waiver wire, so most likely pick him up to replace Monroe. Good move? Thinking ’bout playoffs, yo.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

@Willie Stone: Yeah man, in 10 team love consolidating into the best player, like it!

  8. Zar says:
    (link)

I give Rubio, get Gasol. How does that sound?

I already have Curry, Lillard, and Brandon Jennings, and Felton as my PGs.

I have Henson, Favors, and JV as my Centers ><

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

@Zar: Yup fits your needs perfectly, probably would do it in a vacuum anyway. Nice!

  9. Jake VZ says:
    (link)

Got offered Hayward and Thad Young for Irving.. Close but I think I should pull the trigger on this one to add some depth. What do you think? Also got offered Lillard and Korver for Irving and Miles. Which one is best?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Jake VZ: Hmmm. I’m wishy washy on both, still like Irving a lot. Young scares me a little with possibly trade, but only marginally hurts his ROS value to me until a deal is actually made. I would counter the Lillard one for someone better than Korver. Maybe Lillard and Hayward.

  10. allen says:
    (link)

12 teamer..cj miles or j lamb? Also, Have you ever seen two quieter lines than douglas roberts and snell on saturday?!?!!? Snell 0/0/0/0/0 in 17 minutes while starting and douglas 0/0/1/0/0 in 30 min…hahahahah what a couple of bums

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

@allen: Haha yeah that was mentioned above. Hilarious! I would take Miles right now, but close

    12 team h2h points league.
james anderson, luke ridnour, pj tucker, james johnson, demarre carroll, mike scott, geroge hill, alec burks, louis williams on the waiver wire.
I have blatche, brian roberts, and possible dion waiters b/c of deng and cj miles as droppables. What do u think?

    • I love lamp says:
      (link)

@I love lamp: I’m also going to be activating John Henson today or soon. Who do you think i should drop/keep? thanks

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@I love lamp: I think Blatche is the first drop. I like J Johnson a lot, but concerned about minutes. Not huge on making any moves right now, no one is a clear cut upgrade.

  12. Prodders says:
    (link)

JB – my playoff position Looks quite secure, and I have Gasol about to come back. If I can get Bledsoe do you think he’ll be worth the wait, I.e. play at a high level by early March? Worth trading Pierce for ig necessary, or is that too steep? Quite happy with Pierce otherwise, but doesn’t have Bledsoe’s upside.

    Thanks again!

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Prodders: I’m not as optimistic. I would hold Pierce who I think can be solid whenever Bledsoe is back too. I have a feeling Blesdoe is eased in and worried about resting on back-to-backs, minutes restrictions, etc.

  13. Jake VZ says:
    (link)

When you say nice second half, do you think he’ll put up second round value again like before the injury? and do you think he’ll be back a week from now?

    • Jake VZ says:
      (link)

@Jake VZ: My bad, this is about Gasol haha

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Jake VZ: Haha, I was like hmmm at first. Yeah I do think he’ll be 2nd round value. And he’ll be back in about a week. May be a tad slow the first week or two, but after that very solid.

    • Lasandro says:
      (link)

@Jake VZ @JB Gilpin: As a Gasol owner myself (in a very shallow league) I, too, think he’ll come back well. the one positive in a player like Marc coming back from injury is that he never really relied on athleticism in the first place. At least, this is what I keep telling myself. He’s predominantly a skilled player, not an athletic one. Cannot wait!

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@Lasandro: Agree with that. Relies on floor presence and being a big body. Should be muy caliente!

  14. The Tristan Thompson Conundrum says:
    (link)

Should I trade Lillard and Duncan for Lebron and Monta Ellis? Other variants if he declines would be (all switching out Monta) Al Jefferson, Drummond, Henson, or Dragic. He accepted Lillard for Lebron straight up but my league vetoed…

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@The Tristan Thompson Conundrum: Yup I’d do that in a heartbeat! Wow, shocked, he must love the Blazers. Not surprised league would veto, but they shouldn’t have, he should have who he wants on his team. I would take Dragic if I needed a PG and Big Al if needing a big man

      • The Tristan Thompson Conundrum says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: i offered instead lillard and beal for lebron and korver but i might try for Big Al/ Duncan deal too

  15. Ryan Johnson says:
    (link)

My team is: rondo, harden, jameer nelson, jeff green, henson, afflalo, favors, Miles plumlee, terrence jones, jordan crawford, RoLo, kemba walker, and mike conley. Should i be looking to trade jordan crawford now before rondo comes back, and for who? I was offered trey burke.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Ryan Johnson: I would take Burke in a heartbeat. That tier of player I would be happy with

  16. Ivan says:
    (link)

I’m looking to pick up Kobe Bryant, but I’m not sure who to drop from my team. I’m thinking either Wilson Chandler or Tobias Harris. Would that be a good move?

The other members of my team include Deron Williams, Chris Bosh, Anderson Varejao, Dwyane Wade, Kyrie Irving, Dirk Nowitski, David West, Tony Parker, Marcin Gortat, Spencer Hawes, and Rajon Rondo.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Ivan: Yeah it would be between those two guys… Chandler is close, I like him a ton, but would hold Harris. If you are looking solid at a playoff spot or near the top of roto standings I’d grab him for Chandler.

  17. Lasandro says:
    (link)

    Heya man, nice Jared pun!

So, a fellow in my league is gunning for my AD and DMC. He’s offered me Love and is asking me who is pick as a filler. I’m currently dropping in boards and points and am dead last in threes. My blocks and steals cats are strong tho. His players of interest are Thad, Rubio, Westbrook, JV, Lance and T Jones. Out of interest, do you see something I could send his way? I offered him Marc Gasol and DMC straight up for Love but he declined..

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Lasandro: Thanks man! Hmmm, would not want to be moving the Brow even though you’re strong in blocks. DMC and Gasol seems very fair. DMC and Rubio? Would fit your needs pretty well

      • Lasandro says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: appreciate it! Ok we’ve come down to this: my DMC, Marc and BJ for Love, T Jones and Rubio. Well? I’m leaning yes, but looking to upgrade to plumlee on t jones

      • Lasandro says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: oh I meant his players of interest TO ME. Rubio is on his squad

      • Lasandro says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: there it is! Marc, DMC, BJ for Plum, Love, Rubio. I’m thinking yes! Your humble opinion before I pull the trigger?

      • Lasandro says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: essentially, who’s better? T Jones or Miles? Ha, this is what it’s come down to.

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Lasandro: Yeah I like Jones more. But not by too much, looks like a decent deal, you get best player, but sucks losing BJ too, he’s hitin a couple threes for you here and there!

  18. Daniel Bryan says:
    (link)

Hey JB, I’d love to hear your opinion. Both Bledsoe and Holiday (dropped by me) are available in our league.

    1. If you were me, would you stash either of them?
    2. Regardless of your answer in number 1, who would you drop from my team and who would you stash?

    14-team H2H 9-cat daily league, 8th place
    PG – S. Curry, K. Marshall, B. Roberts, R. Rondo
    SG – J. Redick, V. Oladipo
    SF – T. Harris, T. Ross
    PF – J. Henson, T. Gibson, G. Davis
    C – J. Noah, A. Drummond

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Daniel Bryan: In 8th, nah I would let them be someone else’s problem. Don’t see any clear answer of someone to drop and you need the production right now

      • Daniel Bryan says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: Thanks for the solid advice as always my man. Looking forward to your next post! :)

  19. Zar says:
    (link)

Holiday and Bledsoe were both dropped in my league. Are either worth stashing in 12 man? I would consider dropping Trey Burke, Jeff Green, or Reggie Jackson. I’m thinking I can hold on either one for now until news updates say they’ll be returning.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Zar: I wouldn’t stash either unless I was really safe in 1st or 2nd place. Wouldn’t want to drop any of those 3 guys

      • Zar says:
        (link)

I@JB Gilpin: Sounds good. I’m safely in…3rd place, half a game behind 2nd. I guess I’ll hold on news for them. Thanks!
