What a game. What an adventure. Summer League isn’t just the beginning of the road for youngsters. It’s also the comeback trail for M.I.A. vets – Michael Beasley, Kenneth “Manimal” Faried, and Brandon Knight all making their presence known.

Here’s what I saw at Summer League:

  • Jordan Nwora – Riding off the high of international play, Nwora showed his scoring aptitude. 22 points and six rebounds are decent but 9-for-26 is not going to cut it in Cream City.
  • Reggie Perry – Needs to improve his three-point shooting as he shot 0-for-5. Otherwise, a good line of 13 points, five rebounds, one assist, two steals, and two blocks.
  • Day’Ron Sharpe – This kid is an ox. Raw talent without much grooming but you can’t teach size or effect and he has both in spades. Eight points and 11 rebounds is decent but six offensive rebounds is elite.
  • Cam Thomas – Quietly put up 22 points. A potent scorer who showed glimpses of playmaking and drop-passes in the paint after penetrating the defense.
  • Quinndary Weatherspoon – The Mississippi State guard showed out with a rugged, two-way performance with 15 points, five rebounds, four assists, two steals, and one block.
  • Max Struss – Continues to thrive in Miami’s developmental pipeline. He’s scored over 25 points in the first two games here in Vegas. 32 points and eight rebounds show his growth as a go-to bench option.
  • Omer Yurtseven – Not Yurt 5, not Yurt 6, but YurtSeven is stacked and perhaps emerging as the best player in Vegas – 23 points, 11 rebounds, one assist, one steal, and four blocks.
  • John Konchar – A jack of all trades, master of none. Konchar brings the intangibles and can fill up the box score as well – 12 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and two blocks. Will he get run in the loaded backcourt in Memphis?

Hope to see y’all here in August 2022 and beyond!
