Preseason is here!  Preseason is here!  I’m as giddy as N64 kid on Christmas Day.

But before we got into any action, Nick Young had a rough end of to his week last week, jacking up his thumb on his shooting hand requiring surgery.  He’ll be out 8 weeks, which puts him back in Purp-n-Gold mid-to-late November, optimistically.  You can drop him off your fantasy teams now!  He’s got a plenty big cast to hitchhike his way somewhere else.  I would say to “Scrubtown” but if you say that three times fast it starts to sound kinda like Scranton and I don’t want to offend Scrantonites or fans of The Office.

I wasn’t big on Swaggy P anyway, but no reason to touch him except in the very deepest of leagues.  Pretty empty scoring.  Wesley Johnson gets a minor bump up, and that’s the extent of the impact.  Now back to preseason!  Of course every performance must be taken with a grain of salt, and this early it’s a friggin’ pillar of salt, but it’s never too early to see how players are doing – especially this year’s ridiculous class of rooks.  Here’s what’s gone on across the league:

Pysche!  Fooled you!  Before you keep reading, start up one more league and go for the RCL Trophy!  Looking like the grand prize will be the famous team jumpsuit along with picking an eating challenge for me to do of the winner’s choice.  In yes, another YoutTube humiliation video.  Start up a new league today!

(Note, I’m leaving out the “preseason” games against Maccabi Tel Aviv.  While they’re a respectable team, just highly doubt anyone is taking it that serious.)

Andrew Wiggins Pssshhhewwwww!  That’s the hype train whizzing by!  18/4/3/1/3 in 32 spectacular minutes.  Didn’t log a single TO!  And shot 4-11 FG (8-10 FT 2-2 3PTM ).  Remember folks, it’s preseason!  Still… mighty fine like the redhead in Grey’s Anatomy…  Arguably the biggest game thus far early in preseason.

Gorgui Dieng Not to be [too] outshined, Dieng got the start and 29 minutes with Nikola Pekovic not ready yet (shocker!) and went 16/10/0/1/2.  You won’t see him ranked above Pek too many places, but at Razzball you will!

George Hill New face of the team!  Went nuts for a guy that usually is a boring/steady guy for 17/6/7/2/1.  Shot 6-9 from the field as well with a trey.  All that in only 20 minutes!  Interesante…  Did have to leave briefly with a back bruise, but tis no biggie.  Not to be confused with tig ol bitties.

Dante Exum Finally gets some “real” NBA action!  Loose usage of the word “real”.  29 minutes of very boring, but very multi-cat 4/3/2/1/1.   Shot only 1-5, but encouraging to see only 1 TO.  Encouraging in a “he might not get killed out there” sort of way, not “I’m going to draft him now”.

Rudy Gobert Monsieur Elbow is now Monsieur First Preseason Rainbow Line!  I like the first nickname better… 8/11/2/2/2 in under 21 minutes.  Dem fighting numbers!  Awesome to see.

DeMarcus Cousins Rainbowed mere hours later!  His line was preposterous last night.  19/4/2/3/2 shooting 6-7 from the field and 7-12 at the stripe.  And all of that in…….. 18 minutes!  12 free throw attempts in 18 minutes?!  Whew-ie!  Hack a Cuz!

Omri Casspi Speaking of going 7-12 from the line, Casspi with an interesting little game last night.  15/2/6/0/1 in 26 bench minutes with the same FT attempts and makes as Cuz.  Which is a little funky, but interesting.  I liked him as a sleeper last year, but Terrence Jones sure took the stretch 4 role and ran with it.  Casspi could be usable in a 20 teamer, but I’m not keeping him in the REL for $3.  That’s pretty down the totem pole.

Darren Collison Awesome, awesome debut to preseason.  5-7 (2-2 3PTM) 13/4/6/0/0 with only 1 TO in 27 minutes Sunday.  And we all know he’ll be fine in steals too.  Followed that with a little less inspiring 10/1/5/0/1 yesterday with 4 TOs, but I’m not worried.

Ramon Sessions – Does exactly what Sessions does in the Kings’ preseason debut against the Raptors.  3-8 FG 14/1/3/0/0 with 8-9 FT.  Always been a surprise volume FT guy given the minutes.  In deeper leagues, don’t overlook it!  Then 6/3/6/1/0 with no TO last night.  Mike Malone has said the Kings’ will use three-guard sets, meaning a lot of Colly/Sessions combos.  Sessions is going to be a great value in deeper leagues.

Nik Stauskas Struggled in his first “real” NBA action, even though it’s early preseason.  4 TOs to only 1 AST Sunday.  Then yesterday, a pretty ThrAGNOFfy 13/0/1/1/0 with two treys.  Good thing Ben McLemore looks like a bum just like last year.  Still like the rook.

Victor Oladipo Sprained his MCL, but sounds not serious at all.  Apparently practiced through the injury.  Likely will keep him from playing in most preseason games, but if anyone is scurred you can get him for a value.

Channing Frye Also sprained his MCL in a practice last Thursday, but this one sounds a lot more serious.  Well, Frye is older and bigger too which doesn’t help… Not a good week for Magic MCLs in practice!  Jacque Vaughn is practicing these guys too hard!  Frye will move down a few more spots for me, even though nothing has indicated he’d miss any regular season time yet.

Elfird Payton – This was so Payton!  1-8 FG 4/2/7/2/0 with 5 TOs in 32 debut minutes last night.  Yeesh.  I’m not worried at all though, RainbOladipo sat out and will take the pressure off in the regular season.

Aaron Gordon Got the start with no Frye, and was very bleh.  6/8/1/0/1 in 28:30 and shot 2-6 from the field and the same 2-6 from the stripe.  He’s really an atrocious FT shooter.  Not a guy I’ll have on any teams.

Josh McRoberts – Toe surgery might linger into the regular season.  We were hoping that he’d be fine and be Day Man, but this is looking like Night Man!  You’ve got to pay the troll toll to get inside this boy’s hole!

Luke Babbitt – Hit 5 treys in the preseason opener.  In other news, bored housewives forced to watch the game with their husbands randomly perked up and said, “who, rabbit?!”  And then were sure to have two fresh AA batteries.  Babbitt then went 0-5 from downtown on Monday.  Luke Babbitt for MVP!

Jrue Holiday Played 10 minutes and didn’t do anything in Saturday’s opener, which is a good thing.  Since breaking his leg again could be considered doing something.  “JB, that’s mean!”  We were all thinking it!  Then played 25 minutes on Monday night.  Good to see him on the floor with apparently little-to-no restriction.

Russ Smith – Really solid game in the preseason debut for 4-7 12/3/1/2/0 hitting his only trey in only 13 minutes in front of hometown Louisville fans.  Didn’t play Monday though, as Austin Rivers got an extended look, and promptly shot 1-8.  Still like Smith as a Holiday handcuff in a really deep leagues.

Luol Deng Got 25 minutes in his first game donning a Heat uni for 4/2/1 and 2 swipes.  Let’s hope those steals Ferry over to the regular season.

James Ennis Got some buzz through Summer league, and looked aggressive getting to the line 10 times making 8 FT.  17/6/1/1/0 in 23 minutes on Saturday, then followed it up with a huge 14/10/4/1/0 line last night with a trey.  More buzz in preseason!

Terrence Ross Bruised his knee in Sunday’s game and got an MRI revealing no damage, but also revealed he has an ankle injury too.  Gulp.  Hasn’t been a good postseason-to-preseason run for Ross.

Reggie Evans – If you’re ever so overwhelmingly sad that you feel like your life is changing too fast, get cold feet before a wedding (not me, I swear honey if you’re reading!), anything like that – you can always take solace in Reggie Evans.  4/13/0/0/0 in 21 minutes in Sunday’s preseason opener.  It’s good to be back with things exactly as they should be…

James Johnson Ruh roh!  Looks like it’s going to be another tantalizing season of multi-catness off the bench.  Multi Katniss Everdeen!  Love me that J-Law Mystique.  8/3/2/1/1 in 27 minutes hitting a trey on Sunday, but only 6/4/4/0/0 yesterday.

Adreian Payne – I was all about him after the draft, but a rough Summer league and an uninspiring quote to the effect of “it’s a big adjustment and I’m stuggling” scared me.  4/7/2/0/0 in his debut, shooting only 1-6 with 3 TO in 20 minutes.  If you draft him in really deep leagues, might be a Major Payne.

K.J. McDaniels Sound the hype train again!  4 blocks on Monday night in his debut.  Plus two steals while not doing much else – 1/4/0/2/4.  Weird line… That’s JaVale McGee-esque!  He’ll be good for those out of position blocks, but if you’re solid in that cat with your final pick or two, nah.

Marcus Smart Welllllllll… That didn’t go so hot.  Started at PG and shot 0-8 (0-5 3PTM), for a 2/3/6/2/1 line in 27 minutes.  I guess that line is actually fine, but dayum!  My concerns about him having no perimeter game are surely not sated here!

Evan Turner Yeah, don’t buy this at all.  Huge preseason debut of 15/10/6/1/0 shooting 5-11 (1-1 3PTM 4-4 FT) in a surprise 31 minutes given it’s game 1 of preseason.  Jeff Green didn’t play because of his calf.  Ironically enough, Jeff Green missed all of last year with complacency.

Derrick Rose Played 14 minutes in the Bulls’ debut and looked pretty good.  11/4/1/1/0 shooting 4-7.  Then last night, a-not-as-much.  6/1/1/0/0 in another 14 minutes shooting 0-4, but did get to the stripe 8 times (6-8 FT).  At least he’s playing a lot…

Glen Rice Jr. – 18/0/3/2/1.  Summer League carried over!  The MVP from Summer ball looked pretty good, hitting 6-8 shots including 3-4 from downtown in 21 minutes.  But 21 minutes won’t be happening in the regular season unless there’s major injuries.

Otto Porter Summer league didn’t carry over!  The fantastic Summer league performance led to a 1-10 showing from the field Monday night.  Didn’t record a steal or a block either in 28 minutes.  “Rough, just like your mother likes it Trebek!”

Jeremy Lin Whoa!  This might be the oddest stat early in preseason, 10 assists!  1/3/10/1/0 shooting a brutal 0-6 and 1-3 FT.  But hey, why I have him clustered with the decent PG options in the 80s of my ranks.

Jordan Hill – Dub-dubbed in 19 minutes.  10/11/1/0/0 shooting 4-5.  If he doesn’t get 30 minutes a game, I might yell at D’Antoni even more, even though that makes no sense…

Julius Randle Meh.  10/8/1/0/1.  I guess that’s good for a rookie debut, but still think he’ll be way overdrafted given his role and his rebound-only type fantasy game.

Wes Johnson – Strained his patella and might miss a few preseason contests.  Doesn’t sound like he’ll miss any regular season action, as he’s already about ready for practice.

Kenneth Faried – Originally got a 5-year, $60 million huge payday, but got reworked for 4-years $50 million to address the new mammoth NBA TV deal and the salary-cap likely to increase.  All you need to know is, “Manimal rich!”

Doug McDermott Yawn.  8/1/0/0/0 in his debut Monday then in 34 whopping minutes last night shot 3-12 (1-6 3PTM) 11/8/1/0/0.  Again, a guy I’m not owning anywhere.

Nikola Mirotic Like, I don’t want to slam Rotoworld blurbs because I love what they do over there, but someone has to call this out.  After going 17/5/0/2/1 in 22 minutes in his debut Monday, Rotoworld said “Nikola Mirotic looked like a potential superstar against the Wizards on Monday…”.  I wonder how he followed it up!  How about 16 minutes of 0/2/0/0/0 with 5 turnovers and HE FOULED OUT!  HAHAHAHAHA.  Unbelievable.  Why you have to try and filter out hyperbole as best you can.

Brandon Jennings – Followed in Lin’s footsteps for preseason’s second dimebag.  Alas, still shot terrible though.  Is that the right way to use alas?  I shrug at alas!  3-12 FG, but did manage to not turn over the ball a single time.  Drop the confetti!  And what’s sad is one of those FG makes was a half court shot to end the first half.  Just shoot it from out there!  Still uninterested in drafting him.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope Will always be a favorite of mine, and had a great preseason debut after killin’ it in the Summer League for 18/1/2/1/0 shooting 7-15 (4-8 3PTM) in 25 minutes.  Only 1 TO too.  He never turns the ball over!

Greg Monroe Had a line so crazy, that I laughed at it then peed on myself!  24/9/2 in 32 minutes shooting 9-14.

Andre Drummond 1-4 FT.  Well, the FT punters are fine with seeing that…

Al-Farouq Aminu I’ve intentionally not mentioned him several times even though he had some buzzy news bits after Mark Cuban said he was his first FA target (? um, OK…), and started with a big preseason line of 8/11/1/2/1 in 20 minutes.  But in typical Aminu fashion, shot 1-5 from the field.  Plus Dirk Nowitzki didn’t play, which is why he started.  Meh, maybe he deserves a top 200 rank next time I do another pass through, but on the very low end.

Draymond Green Yup, exactly what Slim and I expected.  12/8/3/1/2 in a near rainbow with two treys – all in 26 minutes.  What’s not to love?  #OccupyDraymondGreen!

As always, shoot your questions below, and happy return to NBA action!

Love your work all the way from Australia.

In a 8 cat Roto league and have recently done our draft. My team reads Dragic, Oladipo, Deng, Davis, Horford, MCW, Ibake, Hayward, Rubio, KIEFF. And on the bench have Martin, Noel and Korver.
Just wondering your thoughts on the team and whether you think I have any bad pairing’s of players? If so who would you think about trading?

    • Matty says:

      @Thunder from down under:
At first blush it’s a pretty stacked roster – I count eight guys who are typically gone by the end of round 5 in 12-teamers (Dragic, Oladipo, Brow, Horford, MCW, Iblocka, Hayward, Ricky)…but, the (un)holy trinity of MCW, Hayward & Rubio are going to murder your FG%. I’d also think that if you want any shot at being competitive in 3ps you’re going to need Korver’s 2+makes/game in with your starters. Should be rock solid in points, boards, assists, steals and blocks though.

My recommendation would be to look to maybe move Rubio and Noel (you won’t need his blocks with Serge & Brow already killing it in that cat) to the owner who has someone like Calderon (decent assists, 3s, better %s than Ricky) and an upgraded F/C.

      Good luck in ’14-’15!

@Thunder from down under: Thanks man, Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi! Is that how it goes… Haha unsure.

Love, love love that team. Yeah agree with @Matty: your FG% is a little rough, but less worried about Rubio and the low volume and more worried about Oladipo. But it’s not a big concern.

Yeah your team is absolutely loaded. I would hold Rubio to give you fantasy G play, but agree Noel is your most superfluous guy. Brow and Ibaka should crush blocks. Really don’t know what you need though, you’re too loaded! Got good 3s on your bench. Maybe stand tight and see what Roto cat you’re falling in and move Noel to help there. Thanks for dropping by!

    Let’s see if I’ve got anything else…

Kanter and Burks start. Not unexpected but it was nice to see what the starting 5 should have been last year. The starting 5 all scored in double digits and were about +20 vs Portland. Burks wasn’t all that great or anything but he did get 4 steals and if he puts in the work could be a solid steals guy.

Tony Snell is so far down in the rotations. Unownable in any redraft. We both hate this one.

Caron Butler did nothing. I can’t wait to see Meeks and KCP as the starting wings.

Iguodala was terrible and Draymond Green is awesome. He’s got to get more minutes in the regular season right?

PBev had a nice line in 21 min. 3-7/9/4/4/1/0/2 and 3 3s. In 36 minutes those are PG2 type numbers.

Elfrid took 3 3s and went 2/2 from the FT line. I don’t expect either to continue. I know he has issues and there will be growing pains but I love his upside.

James Ennis is a lot of fun to watch… that is all.

Garnett in 20 min. 6/4/3, Plumlee in 20 min. 12/6, 2 blocks. Garnett shouldn’t be starting.

I’m trying to put a dollar value on Wiggins for the REL. $40 is too low right?

    • Fred says:
      (link)

      @Slim: Hi guys,

Do you really see KCP & Meeks together? Meeks is 6’4″ & KCP is 6’5″: is that tall enough for SG & SF? Butler & Singler did nothing impressive, but…
If KCP does not start, what is the max minutes can we expect: timeshare at best for SG?

Please rank from 1 to 4 which one should have the most access to PT and produce stats for “bench type” players, this season only: KCP, Middleton, LaVine, Vasquez.

      Many Thanks

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@Fred: Yeah I think they can coexist, but it won’t be too frequent. Depends on when opps go small, and they wanna run with em. Still think Meeks starts and KCP is off the bench, Meeks at 30ish minutes, KCP 24-25.

Of those 4, still KCP way #1 for me. Then Middleton, Vasquez, LaVine. Any time, thanks for stopping by!

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Slim: Well yeah the Jazz had a good +/- but the Blazers only did starters under 20 minutes. Although Blazers starters were -14. Yeesh.

Caron Butler is this year’s Richard Jefferson.

#OccupyDraymondGreen! Stupid Iggy, better come off the bench. They need a facilitator off the bench anyway.

We’ll talk more on the Pod. But yeah, $40 is way too low for Wiggy. People gonna Wig out!

        @JB Gilpin:
        Hey guys,

any way you can find some time to provide us some kind of Top75 – Top100 for dynasty redraft? (with auction values, it would be awesome…..)

I’m having a dynasty auction draft early next week…. 🙂

        thanks

          (link)

@Fred: Hey man, sorry we don’t have dynasty ranks right now, but we can help with all the questions you have! Wiggins will surely go for a pretty penny after his preseason debut!

    • NKS says:
      (link)

@Slim: Hi Slim, how do you see Teletovic this year: do you see him playing PF? or BKN will give the spot to Garnett / Plumlee?

I am having him at 21/24minutes: is there a regular scenario where he can beat that? or he would need Garnett or Kirilenko to go down?
      thanks

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@NKS: Well for me, it’s all a hodgepodge. Garnett 18 minutes a start when he can play, and it def won’t be every game. Then Brook Lopez a good 30 minutes a night at C. So that opens up backup C minutes for Plumlee plus a few at PF. Then Teletovic has a lot of free reign – I think 26-28 minutes. won’t do much beyond treys, but will be big there!

Thoughts on Kobe’s debut the other night?

Looked pretty smooth to me with some vintage fade aways. Also dropped a couple nice dimes and was moving without any hitch in his giddyup.

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Matty: I feel very good about my Kobe projection. I would max him out at 30-32 min per game and a fair amount of planned rest days. I didn’t project games played but if I did i’d put Kobe in the 60-70 games played range. I feel supremely confident his name value will surpase his fantasy value.

      • Matty says:
        (link)

        @Slim:
Yeah, predicting games is somewhat of a fool’s errand IMO. Apart from predicting “rest” days for players who have accumulated a lot of mileage (the Duncans and Wades of the hardcourt world) and whose coaches aren’t opposed to sitting their vets for maintenance, it seems unreasonable to project GP. If a guy has a history of ankle issues that keep him out for an average of 15 games over the past five years, what’s to say he doesn’t blow out an ACL in early-November and miss 75 this year? Factoring in a player’s propensity to get hurt (or play through nagging injuries) is one thing…predicting GP is quite another.

Back to Kobe – I would tend to agree that he will be in the low-30s MPG, at least for the start of the season. I would imagine the Lakers’ record will impact that post-ASG. If by some miracle they are in contention for the 7th or 8th playoff spot with 30+ games to go, you can bet Kobe will be lobbying HARD for extra minutes down the stretch. He knows he’s in the twilight of his career on a lousy team. If he has a shot at the post-season, you’ll have to drag him off the court kicking & screaming in March.

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Matty: Haha “you’ll have to drag him off the court kicking & screaming in March.” Very true. Encouraging to see Kobe ballin’ well, but agree with all you both said, GP is tough to predict and he’s old and been really injured. Still feel fine if I get him mid-4os but doubt it will happen much (hasn’t yet)

  4. Drez says:
    (link)

So you guys aren’t too high on Ennis? What about in a dynasty? Deng will probably opt out for a longer contract, so he could be their answer at the 3. Granger and WIlliams, are… well, Granger and Williams, so I doubt they’re a threat to his minutes, lol.

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Drez: We talked about him a bit on the podcast. I kind of thought having him in the top 200 was being pretty high on him. In a 12er I wouldnt draft him because he has no real role with everyone healthy. I said on the podcast though that I think at some point in the year he’s going to be a very hot pickup. I think he is the longterm answer at SF and in a dynasty I like him as a late round gamble. But in the beginning he might give us some DNPs so patience will be important.

      • Drez says:
        (link)

        @Slim:

Ahh, was about to listen to the podcast. Guess I should’ve done that first, lol. I’ll get on it once I finish stuffing this coffee into my face.

@Drez: I hope the coffee stuffing went well! Yeah I am going to move Ennis up a little in the next reranks, but still tough to draft in 12ers.

            @JB Gilpin:

It went as well as it could’ve with the lid in the way… damn sippy cups.

I smell basketball season! I really wish I could read you guys at work but your site is blocked… Somehow rotoworld is not tho… so that’s what I’m stuck with. This KJ McDaniels character, is he worth a last pick in 10 team redraft league? Or should I just be targeting JR Smith, who singlehandedly killed me in the fantasy finals last year?

@the Tristan Thompson Conundrum: Wooooo, hoops is nearing! Wow – it’s really blocked? Wonder why that is… Haha I think it depends on needs. If you’re solid on bigs and don’t need blocks upside and need some scoring – JR, good on points but lacking with the big men – KJ. Love the initial names, so easy to type!

    JB,
I got the 5 pick in my rcl draft and even I couldn’t screw it up.

    Lebron pick 5
    Horford 20
    Dirk 29
    Kobe 44
    Wade 53
    Pau 68
    Collison 77
    JV 92
    Chalmers 101
    Dieng 116
    Nelson 125
    W Chandler 140
    V Carter 149

What do you think of my old timers team?
Was just offered Boozer for Dieng? I’m not inclined to that.

@Pops: Nice! Whoa some pretty good value, but you’re definitely punting assists. And lots of old timers! Kinda low on blocks too, I would def hold Dieng. I’d definitely take Ariza or Calderon for Dieng, actually Calderon would be huge for Dieng if you can make it work, will really help your dimes.

@Jason: IMO you need some more asts, you picked some good guards in Lawson/Oladipo, good bigs too in Favors/Jefferson and solid wings so you covered a lot of cats but I’d trade someone to get a PG upgrade, then maybe drop Burke if you need depth at a different position. Maybe go for Calderon or Jrue cause they’re undervalued? I like Jeff Teague too.

        @CTMN

Yeah I knew I was lacking assists and by the time I realized it most of the solid high assists guards were taken. I’m hoping that trey burke has a breakout season with his bigs being more reliable this year.

        Thanks for the insight man.

@Jason: Sweet! Thanks for checking us out, really glad to have ya and appreciate it!

@CTMN: Agree Calderon and Jrue are undervalued… But I think you’re pretty solid in dimes. Stuckey should chip in maybe 4, Lawson is huge, but it is a very slight weakness. Only trade I can think of is if Hibbert has like a first week or two averaging 10/15 and 2.5 blocks, I would sell sell sell for a PG. Thanks again for droppin by!

@JB Gilpin: you’re that high on stuckey? I’ve never been a huge fan but you could be right, he just seems for fantasy like only a scorer with ft, sort of like sessions. But I trust you man, you’re ranks articles/comments from you and slim have helped me a ton to prepare for my draft!

            JB Gilpin says:
            (link)

@CTMN: Yeah I mean, not like George Hill can do all the facilitating, and Stuckey has had high 4s and a 5+ assist season earlier in the Pistons years. I won’t get him in the first 10 or 11 rounds, but past that I seem to get him a lot. He is a lot like Sessions, except guaranteed a boatload of minutes. Let’s hope it comes through!

            • jason says:
              (link)

              @JB Gilpin:

yeah I was high on stuckey too and when I saw you guys were high on him too i was stoked. I picked him up with my last pick and i definitely think it’s a steal with him playing 30+ minutes a game. I was a little sad to see ramon and collison sharing minutes but hopefully my team can lead me to victory.
what do you think will be giannis stats for the upcoming year? do you think he’ll make a big impact?

              • JB Gilpin

                JB Gilpin says:
                (link)

@jason: Well I don’t think Collison and Sessions are really going to share minutes (like 28 for each for example), I think they’re going to play together some and Colly 32 or 33, Sessions near 30 a night. Well, maybe 27-28 for Sessions. Giannis is gonna be a beast, not a huge scorer, but hit all the cats and be great – we have him a big sleeper

Last question regarding my fantasy team. Thank you for your help! Draymond green is still on the waiver wire. Would you think it’s a better option to drop miles plumlee and add draymond or no?

@Tony: Whewwwwww, well I’m throwing Burks out. I like Draymond very very marginally more this year and think he’s safer. Henson has a little more upside. I’d pick Draymond gun to my head.

  10. Jim says:
    (link)

OK…so I’m really liking the Razzball site, guys. You do a great job with it. Was looking into some more numbers tonight and came across this to add about Draymond Green. Obviously we’ve talked a lot about him, but I like comparing stat lines of the newer players to other more familiar stat lines. Here’s one to ponder for D-Green’s playoff stat line:

Draymond Green: 11.9 points, 1.1 treys, 8.3 boards, 2.9 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.7 blocks
    Player 2 2013-14: 12.8 points, 1.0 treys, 6.2 boards, 2.0 assists, 1.7 steals and 0.8 blocks

Who’s player 2?? That would be Kawhi Leonard! Leonard shot better, but Green still hit .466 from the floor and .791 from the line. Both solid. Leonard’s going in the 2nd round of a lot of drafts. Not to over-hype, but if Green comes CLOSE to these numbers, he could easily be top 50. With the expected minute bump–I think Slim said at one time a 24 minute floor, it’s not crazy to think Green could return early, mid-round value.

Now ladies, gents…this analysis is being done by the same guy who thought P. Beverley was a mid-round value last year, so consider that your disclaimer!! Just might be a good idea to plan on grabbing Green with your 12th-13th round picks in Yahoo leagues where he’s only owned in 18% of leagues. It will be easier than missing one of the early-season late night Warriors’ games where he goes off and rushing to the waiver wire the following day at work….

    • CTMN says:
      (link)

@Jim: wow that’s interesting actually, makes me want Draymond even more than I already wanted him, which was a lot. I think all you guys are right about him but I’ll still be able to get him at like 120.

@Jim: Thanks man! Really appreciate it!

Wow, insane player comp! Definitely hoping that performance carries over, as we mentioned on the Pod we did this afternoon, we’re the highest on Green in the industry according to fantasy pros. I talked about him a ton last year too, #OccupyDraymondGreen! Definitely not crazy seeing a mid-round value from a guy you can get in the 100s easily.

It’s gonna be better than Beverley, I can assure everyone that! Haha 🙂 Luckily I wasn’t a huge PBev guy on draft day last year…

@Connor: Love love love our bigs getting Millsap and Ibaka. Looks like you’re punting AST, but I don’t mind it as much with this team since I think you’re 100% set on steals. One of the few punt assist teams I’ve seen I like. Nice work!

    Hey guys,

I just drafted this punt-points build in my 3rd money draft this year. Let me know what you think:

PG – Mike Conley, Jrue Holiday
SG – Trevor Ariza, Kyle Korver, Danny Green, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
SF – Andre Iguodala, DeMarre Carroll, Manu Ginobli
PF/C – Anthony Davis, DeAndre Jordan, Andrew Bogut, Tyson Chandler, Mason Plumlee

    Breakdown by round:

#2 pick overall = AD I could’ve went with Curry here, but decided to change it up since I drafted Curry in my other league with the 2nd pick.

Mike Conley – Was betting on the chance that either DJ or Drummond would still be there in the 3rd.

DeAndre Jordan – Was half right. Wanted Drummond, but DJ is almost as good

Trevor Ariza – Felt like a reach, but thought I could use the steals and 3s.

Jrue Holiday – Wanted Calderon here, but he was sniped a few picks before my turn.

Kyle Korver – Cant complain. He gets it done when it comes to 3s

Andre Igoudala – When punting points, Iggys value goes up in my opinion. Needed his steals and assists here

Tyson Chandler – Big man stats needed

    Bogut – See above

DeMarre Carroll – Good glue guy to have in the later rounds

Danny Green – 3s and blocks. Felt good about this late round pick

Mason Plumlee – If he can give me good percentages and 1 block a game, Ill be happy

Manu Ginobli – He seems like a headache to own, but this late in the draft, im sure there are worse picks out there right? His assists help too

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope – Decent 3s? Iffy about this pick. Maybe grab Tony Allen for his steals?

    Thanks in advance guys!

    Don

@d0nno: Nice team! Yeah I have Brow 2, so I like that pick a lot. Wow Holiday went AFTER Calderon? That’s a little funky, I like Holiday a lot, you got amazing value there. Love KCP as your last pick. Main critiques are I don’t really think you needed the big man stats from Chandler/Bogut and Iggy seems high. If you can change a mix and match of two of those guys for a good PG, I think it will help a ton, but not sure what you can get. I know Iggy will bring a few dimes, but I think a few more will help this team a lot. Any time man!

Then horford, and yup I’m with the same four rounding out with Gortat and Young. Think those are the best values. Wish ya well this year, hope to see ya come around a lot!

Hey..first time commenting here in the hoops section…I am in a 3 keeper league…gotta choose btw Dragic, Wall, Lowry and Milsap….who would you choose?

    • Matty says:
      (link)

      @fuzzyD:

Wall is a must. Young, elite PG who can be a cornerstone of your team for years.

Next three are really close as Millsap (the Sapper!) is 29, Dragic & Lowery are both 28…so age really doesn’t factor in here.

For diversity’s sake, I’d pair Wall with Sapper, the latter of which should still have at least 2-3 more “prime” years of across-the-board fantasy goodness.

Now down to Dragic & Lowery. This one is almost personal preference. I like Lowry a bit better myself, but he plays for my Raps so I’m admittedly a bit biased. He has less competition for usage and just got locked up for the next four years on a rock solid Toronto team that has a lot of other promising youth. Methinks they’ll keep that core of Lowry, Derozan, JV, Ross, etc. in tact for a while to see what kind of damage they can do in the East.

      Good luck!

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@fuzzyD: Welcome to hoops! Wall and Millsap are locks for me. I think I would go Dragic with those two, even though it’s tough throwing back Lowry.

Agree with @Matty: those two are really really close, but I think Dragic’s awesome %s fits well with Wall and Millsap. And I think he’s a tad bit safer given Lowry has had some injury issues earlier in his career

        • fuzzyD says:
          (link)

@JB Gilpin: That’s who I was leaning with too but with all those guards in PHX I am a lil concerned….but I am also concerned about Lowry’s health…I guess it’s a decent problem to have…ha…
