It was a close game until the end, but the LA Clippers were just too much for the Orlando Magic as Reggie Jackson sunk a step-back jumper in the closing seconds to steal the victory, 106-104. Alongside Jackson’s game-high 25 points, Luke Kennard had a big game adding 23 points on 7-of-11 shooting from three. Sophomore sensation Terance Mann also nearly secured a double-double, finishing the game with 16 points and nine rebounds while going a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc. Solid win for the Clippers and bonus points for doing so without star forward Paul George.

Although the Orlando Magic were unable to seal the deal, this young team fought hard to stay in this game to the end. Orlando finished with three 20+ point performers including Cole Anthony who led the team with 23 points. Veteran guard Terrance Ross added 22 points and rookie forward Franz Wagner contributed 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting from three. One thing they can hang their hats on is that they won the points in the paint battle 42-32. That has a lot to do with the twin tower setup they have with Mo Bamba and Wendell Carter protecting the paint. This team continues to show signs of a solid future but the significant improvement of Anthony and Bamba this season has surely been the headliner thus far.

Dominant performance by the Utah Jazz as they take down the Washington Wizards 123-98 led by 28 points from Donovan Mitchell. While his performance was impressive, it was the play of the Jazz’s big men that really stole the show. Rudy Gobert finished with 20 points, 11 rebounds and a block while shooting 9-of-10 from the floor. Hassan Whiteside may have been better with 18 points, 14 rebounds and a whopping four blocks in only 19 minutes. This game was relatively close in the early going as Utah was actually down 50-52 at halftime but it was a strong 42-point 4th quarter that put this game out of reach in favor of the Jazz.

This was pretty much the Bradley Beal show for the Washington Wizards. Deni Avdija only had four points and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope finished with zero points which included a smoked layup…that was blocked by the backboard. Other than Beal, the only other Wizard who really showed out was Daniel Gafford, who finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds while shooting a perfect 6-for-6 from the field with two free throws. Washington is 1-4 in their last five games, and they are slowly sliding down the standings as they now sit in 5th place in the Eastern Conference.

Duncan Robinson led the Miami Heat to a 118-92 victory over the undermanned Chicago Bulls. The big keys in this game for the Heat were that they dominated points in the paint and second chance points. They finished the game winning the points in the paint battle 48-22 and had 16 second-chance points to Chicago’s four. Miami dominated on the glass which helped them take control in this game. Kyle Lowry finished the game with 16 points and 14 assists while hitting 4-of-5 three. The Heat also got a big-time performance from Dewayne Dedmon who finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds. This win gives them back-to-back victories against Top-5 Eastern Conference teams for Miami without their star duo of Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo.

On a Covid-stricken Chicago Bulls squad, Zach LaVine was forced to carry the team on his back to even keep this game close. Alongside LaVine the next top scorer for the Bulls was Lonzo Ball who finished with 15 points and five rebounds despite shooting 4-of-12 from three. Nikola Vucevic was also solid with ten points and eight rebounds. Despite the significant hit to the roster, the Bulls are 3-2 in their last five games and still sit at 2nd in the East.

The Cleveland Cavaliers won 117-103 to hand the Sacramento Kings their second loss in two nights. The scoreboard may not necessarily show it but the Cavaliers got overwhelming performances from all across the roster. Lead big men Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley combined for 34 points, 26 rebounds, and four blocks. Second-year guard Isaac Okoro finished the game with 20 points and four rebounds. Even the bench showed out as the trifecta of Cedi Osman, Ricky Rubio, and Kevin Love combined for 43 points. Solid all-around performances by everyone on the Cavs to help secure the victory.

After a heartbreaking end to Friday’s game against Charlotte Hornets, the Sacramento Kings just can’t seem to catch a break. After choking the game-winning free throws against the Hornets, De’Aaron Fox finished this game with 13 points while shooting 6-of-14 from the field and 0-of-3. But they did get a solid performance off the bench from rookie guard Davion Mitchell who finished with 14 points, five rebounds, and two steals. Sacramento closes out their three-game Eastern Conference road trip with the Toronto Raptors up next on the schedule.

The Memphis Grizzlies handed the Houston Rockets their second straight loss as Dillon Brooks and Desmond Bane combined for 46 points in the 113-106 victory. In what finished as only an eight-point game, this win came down to capitalizing off of turnovers. The Grizzlies scored 21 points off of Houston’s 16 turnovers while the Rockets scored only 11 points on Memphis’ 11 turnovers. That is a ten-point swing that essentially ended up being the deciding factor. Memphis also got a good performance from Kyle Anderson who finished with 16 points seven rebounds while going to the free throw line 14 times. So far, the Grizzlies have only lost one game in the month of December (5-1) as their depth is flexing their muscles in the absence of Ja Morant.

After having their seven-game winning streak snapped the other night by the Los Angeles Lakers, the Rockets starting lineup came out a bit flatfooted in this one. Other than Christian Wood, Garrison Matthews was the only other Houston starter with double-digit points as he finished the game with 12 points. For the Rockets, this game was more about the play of their bench. The combination of Armoni Brooks, Alperen Sengun, and Josh Christopher combined for 45 points. Houston hopes to start up another winning streak as they head to Atlanta to face Trae Young and the Hawks.

The 76ers spoiled Stephen Curry’s potential record-breaking night while taking down the Golden State Warriors, 102-93. Philadelphia finished with five players scoring in double figures including Tobias Harris who nearly dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds. The combination of Embiid and Harris finished a combined 18-of-18 from the free throw line which was well more than half of the team’s 26 total attempts. Next up the 76ers head on the road to take on the Memphis Grizzlies.

Most anticipated that with only ten threes left to match Hall of Famer Ray Allen’s three-point shooting record, Curry would surely go on to make history in Philly. Instead, he had arguably his worst shooting night of the season. Nonetheless, he only needs six threes to tie the record and he has the chance to do so on Monday against the Indiana Pacers. Despite Curry being held in check, the Warriors were able to still get good production from Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole, who finished the game with a team-high 23 points and Wiggins added 20 points. With this loss, Golden State moves to 2nd place in the West as they are now a half game behind the Phoenix Suns.

In the last game of the night, the Denver Nuggets get a dominant performance from reigning MVP Nikola Jokic to take down the San Antonio Spurs, 127-112. This was actually a bit of a revenge game for Denver as they had just lost their last game to the Spurs on Thursday. San Antonio could not seem to handle Jokic as he was getting everything he wanted. But he also got a lot of help from his guards. Monte Morris finished with 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the floor including four threes. The Nuggets young guards Bones Hyland and Markus Morris also added 37 total points off the bench.

Tough night for the San Antonio Spurs as they had seven guys finish with double-digit points, but the highest scorer was Lonnie Walker with 16 points. Dejounte Murray had an uncharacteristic off-night as he finished with only six points, five rebounds, and four assists. San Antonio hopes to bounce back in their third game in four nights as they take on the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday.
