Is LeBron a marketing genius or is LeBron a marketing moron? The real question is, can LeBoth be true? In this regard, yes. While JJ Redick knew about it all along and wanted to throw shade at those who didn’t, maybe someone should let Redick know that most of us knew too?

Granted, I’m not sure many of us had a LeBron James and Hennessy partnership (LeHennessy) specifically on our announcement bingo card (next to “Bends down to China again” and “Space Jam 3”) but I doubt any of us were far off. I mean, retirement? At this point, I think Bronny is more likely to retire. True, there is/was some extension drama this offseason along with the usual cryptic social media posts that reads like what a dumb person thinks is a smart repartee (mixed in with random emoji and cringe religion references). And of course Luka’s second year as a Laker and his own long-term extension, the shifting of the teams long-term focus from one star to the next is happening, but retirement this year? Naw.

For all the “f*ck LeBrons” I can muster, when he goes, and Curry goes, KD, Harden… an entire generation of legends and GOATS in their own way will fade off into NBA history and we won’t be the better for it. Not worse mind you, the new generation of SGA, Jokic, ANT, Tatum (and Luka) will carry the load just fine and create their own era. But if we need to roll our eyes at a LeHennessy ad just to get another year of one of the best, I’m all for it. But also f*ck LeBron.

Here’s what else I’ve noticed during preseason:

Behold, the next coming of lazy player comps to Detlef Schrempf, Duke superstar Cooper Flagg has landed. Or wait, if it’s a Flagg, maybe it should be planted? Or have some sort of foundational support system? Regardless, he looked smooth in his preseason debut and the handles are for real.

Will he average more than 20 with some sprinkling of rebounds and assists? No, I don’t think so. But I do think 15/7/5 is very possible, and to be fair, that’s a really great start for what should be a pretty good career. I know it’s easy to call him a superstar, but if he does end up something like, ahem, Detlef Schrempf, I think that’s a-okay.

Not that it has too much to do with fantasy, but Victor Wembanyama‘s official height is now listed at 7’5″, an inch taller than previously stated. Just for reference and a fun comparison, Zach Edey is listed as 7’4″, so for all those Wemby height truthers out there, I give you this as Exhibit A:

Sure, it’s an older photo, based on my analysis… maybe 10 years ago with Chet Holmgren looking like he’s 12, but Wemby definitely is already a couple inches higher than Edey here. Anyways, ef blood clots, and y’all don’t need to be told, third year in the league, elite already on one end. The real question is, do Spurs know their own window is here? I do like Fox, but the rest of the rotation and the implementation of Dylan Harper produce valid questions. Especially in the West.

Giannis Antetokounmpo trade rumors are back on the menu boys! After the entire Giannis pod was excommunicated (correct terminology?) back to Greece, Charania started his rapid-fire assault of rumors, innuendo and gossip, first reporting that the Knicks had an exclusive two-week window to try and trade for him this offseason. Giannis, not Charania.

It does seem as though that Giannis’ future is being dictated by how well Kevin Porter Jr. and Kyle Kuzma can hard carry with the Greek Freak, so honestly, I would expect him to be traded in a couple of months. Where he’ll go, no one knows, but midseason trades are difficult only for the fact that we know he wants to win, any team he’d like to go to should be winning at that time and any team that would want him won’t really want to carve their rotation up for him… there are always of course the “third team” types of trades, but we’ll see. We’ve been seeing these rumors for what, 50 straight years? Even before Antetokounmpo was born, he was destined to be in trade rumors…
