Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown combined for 69 points to lead the Boston Celtics over the New Orleans Pelicans, 107-97. These two pretty much carried things offensively as the next highest scorer for the Celtics was Josh Richardson who finished with ten points. One guy who shouldn’t get lost in the shuffle is Robert Williams. He only had eight points, but racked up a game-high 16 rebounds and four blocks. This victory advances Boston back up to a .500 record at 25-25.

Josh Hart

In spite of the loss, the New Orleans Pelicans finished with six players in double figures. Jose Alvarado led the squad off the bench with 19 points in 19 minutes on 8-of-11 shooting from the field. Josh Hart was the only player to finish with a double-double in this game as he far and away led the team in the rebounding department. This was the Pelicans second game of a back-to-back and this makes three straight losses for New Orleans.

Luka Doncic

Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks put on an offensive clinic to blowout the Indiana Pacers, 132-105. The Mavericks were truly clicking on all cylinders. Doncic finished with 30 points and 12 assists. Maxi Kleber finished with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Reggie Bullock was red hot off the bench with 23 points in 24 minutes on only 11 shots. The only negative for Dallas was that Kristaps Porzingis only played 11 minutes before going down with a knee injury and did not return. Nonetheless, there is only one word to describe this game for the Mavericks: Domination.

Domantas Sabonis

Similar to the Pelicans, the Indiana Pacers lost in style. The scoreboard may be ugly but there are a few guys who can walk away from this game feeling pretty good about themselves. Duane Washington was the team’s leading scorer with 22 points in 25 minutes off the bench. Domantas Sabonis nearly notched a triple-double but fell just two assists shy of the mark. Even rookie Isaiah Jackson got in on the fun with 12 points and six rebounds in 18 minutes off the bench. With this loss, the Pacers are 1-4 in their last five and the trade rumors continue to pile up as we get closer to the deadline.

Joel Embiid

Joel Embiid drops a monster double-double to help the Philadelphia 76ers squeak past the Sacramento Kings, 103-101. Philly was actually down 61-50 at halftime, but in the second half they turned up the defense and only allowed 40 points. Embiid led the charge with 36 points and Tobias Harris added 16 points. Not the Sixers’ best game, but the win streak continues with this being their fourth straight win and their third straight on the road.

Tyrese Haliburton

With De’Aaron Fox still out due to left ankle soreness, Tyrese Haliburton had himself a game as his 38 points led all scorers. Yes, that even includes Top-5 MVP candidate Joel Embiid. Harrison Barnes added 16 points and eight rebounds. Davion Mitchell also had a solid night with 15 points and five rebounds. This loss pushes the Kings’ losing streak to six straight and during that time they have lost four games by six points or less. Talk about going through a rough patch.

Gary Trent Jr.

The Toronto Raptors survived triple-overtime on the road to escape with the 124-120 victory over the Miami Heat. Toronto got a handful of outstanding performances as this was truly a group effort. Gary Trent Jr. led the team in points (33) and steals (5). Pascal Siakam posted a monster stat line with 21 points, 13 rebounds, six assists, four steals and four blocks. OG Anunoby nearly had a triple-double as well with 20 points, 14 rebounds and six assists. Fred VanVleet added 19 points and even Scottie Barnes got in the mix 22 points and nine rebounds. The Raptors seemed to have wanted to make a statement because all five starters played over 50 minutes. Outside of the starters the only guys who played were Precious Achiuwa (15 minutes), Chris Boucher (12 minutes) and Dalano Banton (8 minutes). Mission accomplished as Toronto got the job done by knocking off the top seeded team in the East.

Jimmy Butler

The Miami Heat fought hard from start to finish but it just was not enough. Miami finished the night with seven players in double figures, but none played better than Jimmy Butler, who clearly felt snubbed in the votes for the All-Star starters because he went berserk with a monster triple-double. He was also the only Heat player to play over 45 minutes. Next to him was Bam Adebayo who also had a big night as he finished with 14 points and 16 rebounds. Unlike the Raptors, Miami was a bit more reliant on their bench as the combination of Tyler Herro, Max Strus, Caleb Martin, and Dewayne Dedmon scored a total of 40 points. These are the kinds of competitive back and forth games that make Saturday night basketball so exciting.

Ja Morant

PTS REB AST FG% 3P% FT% STL BLK
34 3 2 15/27 4/8 0/0 1 0

Ja Morant recorded his sixth straight 30+ point performance en route to leading the Memphis Grizzlies over the Washington Wizards, 115-95. The Grizzlies led by as much as 27 points and they dominated across the board. Memphis out-rebounded Washington 60 to 37, they scored 36 second chance points, and scored 60 points in the paint to the Wizards’ 46. Morant led the way with 34 points and Desmond Bane added 19 points. Steven Adams also had a nice game finishing with 10 points and 15 rebounds. As the Grizzlies sit in 3rd place in the West at 34-17 and Morant recently being named as an All-Star starter, Memphis fans must be on cloud nine right now.

Kyle Kuzma

30 8 3 11/17 4/8 4/6 3 1

Rough night again for the Washington Wizards who just continue to spiral as they fall further down the Eastern Conference standings. Kyle Kuzma was the most notable performer for the Wizards as he finished with 30 points and eight rebounds. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope added 15 points. Bradley Beal struggled as he finished with nine points on 2-of-11 shooting from the field, but he did rack up 12 assists. After a hot start to the season, the Wizards are now 10th in the East and have lost their last five games. Out of the teams that have big decisions to make at the trade deadline, the Wizards are slowly starting to become the team on the hottest seat.

Andrew Wiggins

PTS REB AST FG% 3P% FT% STL BLK
24 8 2 9/21 3/8 11/12 3 3

Klay Thompson knocked down a big three with 12 seconds left to help the Golden State Warriors hold off the Brooklyn Nets, 110-106. First time All-Star Andrew Wiggins was in his bag all night as he led the team with 24 points. Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson combined for 35 points, 13 rebounds, and ten assists. Otto Porter dropped 16 points, Kevon Looney collected 15 rebounds, and Jordan Poole scored 17 points off of the bench. Golden State has been red hot as of late as not only do they have two of the West’s five All-Stars, but they also are riding out a five-game winning streak. Just a few of the many reasons why some consider the Warriors to be one of the most dangerous teams in the title picture this season.

Kyrie Irving

PTS REB AST FG% 3P% FT% STL BLK
32 7 7 10/18 4/8 0/0 3 0

The Brooklyn Nets were without both Kevin Durant and James Harden, so it was the Kyrie Irving show. Irving led the team with 32 points and Patty Mills added 24 points while knocking down six threes. The only other Net to score in double figures was James Johnson who scored 14 points off of the bench. Considering how outmatched Brooklyn was from a depth standpoint, this game was actually much closer than one could have expected. But that just further implies just how impactful having Kyrie Irving available could be on Brooklyn’s chances of coming out of the East.
