I am sure he will never admit it in public but it has become pretty obvious that Luka Doncic has put a curse on the Dallas Mavericks for dumping him so unceremoniously before this year’s trade deadline and as a result, both Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving will no longer play this season, with the latter also unfortunately suffering a torn ACL in his left knee. I am also sure that his grandma is involved in some way with this curse and it is why it has been so effective. You don’t mess with Balkan curses and Balkan grandmothers, when someone hurts their grandsons, trust me.

We will discuss the fantasy implications for the Dallas Mavericks in the Buy section of today’s article, but my heart also goes to Klay Thompson, who joined last year’s NBA finalists to compete, only to end up in this situation. My heart goes also to all the Mavs fans out there, it has definitely been a tough year. i would also say the same about Nico Harrison, the Mavs GM, but he kind of brought it upon himself, so….

Regarding last week’s suggestions, I can be proud of the Zach Collins one, as he has been excellent as the starting center for the Bulls and will continue to do so as long as Vucevic is sidelined. Santi Aldama on the other hand caught the injury bug and was sidelined for most of last week, but the Jaren Jackson injury will certainly increase his playing time, while the Sell suggestions of Goga Bitadge and De’Andre Hunter proved also correct, as neither of them produced close to standard league value last week.

Buy

Spencer Dinwiddie: Due to the cursed situation in Dallas, Dinwiddie is the last remaining true point guard on the roster and thus becomes instantly standard league relevant. His game is not fantasy friendly, but there is too much usage to go around for the Mavericks to ignore him for his contributions in assists and points. Beware his fg% as they can be abysmal so check your matchup, especially if you have already entered your fantasy playoffs. (27% owned).

Dallas Wings: If you are more in need of wings with good rebounds and steals, another angle from the Dallas situation might be Naji Marshall, who is a worse scorer but better defender and all around contributor than Dinwiddie and is even more available (18% owned). Finally, there is Max Christie, who is the more talented of the bunch in my opinion and should see an increase in usage as well (27% owned).

Kai Jones: The final piece of the Mavericks adds puzzle might be Kai Jones, who signed a two way contract with them and immediately played 34 minutes off the bench. He produced the goods with 21 points, 8 rebounds and a block and while he may not play that much every night, there is no center depth in Dallas so I would give him a look, especially if he strings another good performance today against Milwaukee (11% owned).

Kyle Filipowski: Let’s also see a non Dallas player this week for a change in Kyle Filipowski, who has gained significant playing time the last month with Utah resting starters left and right. The tanking is seriously on for the Jazz and the minutes will only increase for Filipowski as they invent new excuses to sit their veterans during silly season, so I like a preemptive add here, as he can provide great rebounds and triples, if you can stomach the bad turnovers and ft%.

Good stuff! Grabbed Christie hoping he shoots a bit better. Plus Dallas plays Monday and Tuesday the week of my first playoff matchup.
