Sorry there was no write up last week.  It was just a bad NBA slate with a bunch of questionable players and late news.  Those slates suck because it’s kinda of a waste of time from a writing standpoint.  That’s the NBA for ya.  Now we had the news we were all waiting for out of New York regarding the DFS ruling.  Unfortunately the judge ruled against the companies and players in favor of the state of New York.  Then later in the day, the court of appeals granted a stay of the injunction.  Meaning the DFS companies can operate until their day in court.  This of course looks like a good thing for the players of New York for the time being, but there is still much work to be done.  Ok enough news – let’s get on with the 8 game slate tonight:

Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving.  This week’s article will be short because I’m traveling back home.  As far as last week goes, it was just ok and I need to start taking some of my own advice.  Anyway let’s get on with this 7 game slate:

Point Guards

Damian Lillard (9,100) has a usage rate of 31.5% and that is good for 6th overall in the league.  Also, the Lakers give up the 2nd most fantasy points to PG’s.  Lillard put a 65 spot on them last Sunday.

Ish Smith (6,600) has been over 40 fantasy points 3 out of his last 4 games with Jrue Holliday on the court.  The matchup vs Utah isn’t the greatest, but Holiday is sitting out.

Fire up Patty Mills (3,600) if Tony Parker takes the night off.

Another week of NBA is in the books.  One thing we know so far this year is that Golden State Warriors are playing better then last year and it looks like they are heading for a finals rematch against the Cleveland Cavaliers.  Last week I kinda went on a little rant and the feedback I got was really positive.  So keep the comments coming and questions coming.  On Thursday we had some news come down from Maura Healey the Attorney General of Massachusetts.  Unlike New York last week, Massachusetts wants to regulate the DFS industry and that is what the states should be doing.  In there she says you need be 21 years old to play.  When I heard this, I was like “you gotta be kidding me.”  So you can defend your country, vote for the leader of this great nation, get married, raise a child, purchase state run lotto tickets, gamble at the horse tracks, and go down to your local convenience store to buy cigarettes but can’t play a $5 double up.  Am I the only who thinks this is wrong?  Then she wants to limit you to a $1,000 deposit a month unless you can prove you can prove you can sustain more of a loss. Oh really?  Are they limiting the amount of money you can spend on their lottery each week?  No they aren’t.  There are some good things in there like not letting site employees/contractors play on the site, limit multi-entries, and getting rid of scripting. This should’ve been done a long time ago by the sites.  Also, it says entries cannot be changed after the start of the contest.  This seems to be end of the late swap feature on Draft Kings, which if you didn’t know is headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts.  She goes on to say that she considers DFS gambling, but legal under Massachusetts state law.  I don’t agree with that if you go by the true definition of gambling.  You can read the whole story over at legalsportsreport.com.  Ok, enough news let’s get on with the 6 evening games:

This is usually where I talk about how we did with the picks last week, but not this edition.  I think it’s a good time to talk/rant about what’s going on in the industry, because 140 characters on Twitter isn’t long enough.  As many of you know the Daily Fantasy Sports Industry is under fire. We recently had  Attorney General Eric Schneiderman of New York say it’s illegal to play DFS in the state of New York.  I don’t think it’s right for a person to have that much power in any state.  To cut the head of the snake is just stupid in my opinion.  New York has the most DFS players than any other state, with an estimated 900k.  That’s a big hit for Draft Kings, Fan Duel (which is headquartered in New York) and any other site.  Also, think of the tax money that the state of New York is losing out on.  What states should be doing is protect the consumer by regulating DFS, not abolish it.  The industry got too big too fast.  Both of these companies are valued at a little over a billion dollars each.  That’s just crazy how fast it happened.  Then with Draft Kings and Fan Duel going on an all-out media blitz promoting millions of dollar in winnings, you’re going to attract a lot of unwanted attention.  Now of course the politicians have their hands out wanting their cut of the pie.  I’m not shocked at all because the political industry is probably the dirtiest and most corrupt industry we have. It’s been that way for the longest time and will continue to be that way.  Many have asked, is season-long fantasy going to be affected?  Probably not and here’s why:  If there were season long companies worth a billion dollars and promoting million dollar winners, I am sure these scumbag politicians would go after those companies.  But there isn’t.  One final thing I would like to say is that I encourage everyone who enjoys and plays fantasy sports to contact their state rep and let them know how you feel.  Also feel free to comment or ask any questions below.

The first full week of NBA is in the books.  Hope everyone is making a few bucks playing DFS.  Last week, the DFS write up did really well.  Now, I do read the questions and comments below but I must tell you all I am a daily NBA guy not a season long guy.  Razzball has good guys on the site that could answer your questions on season long.  Also, it’s easier to hit me up on twitter if you have any questions.  With that said let’s get on with this nice 8 game slate.

Note: The struggling Memphis Grizzlies play at the Utah Jazz with a O/U at 179 right now.  This might be the lowest O/U game of the year.  Utah plays at a snail’s pace and Memphis got boat raced the last two games.  I recommend staying far away from this game.  There are way better spots to get fantasy production on Saturday night.

It’s great to have NBA back; I hope everyone had a chance to read the staff picks.  Who was the only person to pick Greg Monroe and C.J. McCollum?  Yeah this guy.  Ok, enough bragging.  Since it’s Halloween, we are going to have some tricks to stay away from and of course some treats.  So let’s get on with this small 6 game slate:

Disclaimer: James Harden, Anthony Davis, LeBron James, Steph Curry, Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant, and Demarcus Cousins should always be considered.

Point Guards

We have four PG’s above 9k:  Steph Curry, Chris Paul, John Wall, Damian Lillard.  All are fine plays.  Then we don’t find a PG in the 8k or 7k range.

C.J. McCollum (6,600) is a plug and play at this price.  He will be in the 8k range this time next week or he should be IMO.  McCollum is a flat out scorer. He hasn’t met a shot he hasn’t liked.  On nights that his jumper might be off, he has the ability to drive and get to the foul line.  He’s the lowest I am willing to spend at PG on Saturday night.

On Halloween don’t be tricked into playing Rajon Rondo (5,600). Personally I think he is trash and I wish he was cheaper so the masses would play him.

Jrue Holliday (4,900) does have a nice price but don’t be fooled.  He is coming of a major injury and is on a minutes limit.

First thing I want to talk about is site player pricing.  I get aggravated when sites tighten player salaries and then they loosen them up.  Just pick one way or the other. I think being consistent is important and that goes for all the sports that the site offers.  If a site wants to be the next Draft Street and have sharp player salaries, that’s fine.  For example, if the guy doing or looking over the player salaries might be a basketball guy and the salaries are sharper for basketball than other sports.  That’s not the way it should be.  Sites that have consistent player salaries will only help grow the DFS industry moving forward.

We have a 7 game slate on tap for Saturday night.  Couple things I want to bring to your attention.  Atlanta plays Philly after a tough game against Cleveland on Friday night.  Wouldn’t surprise me to see Mike Budenholzer sit some players.  The Heat have some major injury issues.  Be sure to check if Dragic, Chalmers, Deng and Wade are playing.  If any of them sit it could really open up some value.

Disclaimer: James Harden, Anthony Davis, LeBron James, and Demarcus Cousins should always be considered.

Please, blog, may I have some more?

I really don’t like this 7 game slate on Saturday night.  If you want to take the night off or play less volume I wouldn’t argue against it.  There isn’t a player over 9k on Draft Kings if that tells you what kind of night it’s going to be.

Point Guards

Ricky Rubio has really been fantastic the past 5 games.  His price has come up but still not to the level where his play has been.  Memphis gives up the 4th most fantasy points the last three weeks to PG’s.  Back on Feb. 6th Rubio had 17-5-5-3 in only 26 minutes against this same Memphis team.

Reggie Jackson has only had 3 games with the Pistons.  Yeah it’s a small sample size, but he’s been given the keys to the car and seeing the same workload as D.J. Augustin was.  The Wizards have been decent defending against opposing PG’s if you look at their season totals, but the last three weeks they haven’t defended well at all.  I think that has to do with all of John Wall’s nagging injuries.

The all-star break has come and gone.  For DFS purposes it seemed like an eternity.  For me it was a nice break to step away and recharge batteries.  Thursday was the NBA trade deadline and we seen a ton of movement. 39 players were traded.  Now I’m not going to sit here and tell you who the winners and losers were cause I could care less.  I will tell you it opens up opportunity for a lot of players for DFS and also takes the value away from a few players.  When you are building your lineups make sure these players that were involved in a trade are playing for their new teams.  This process can take a few days because of the amount of trades at one time and the players have to pass physicals.  On Saturday we a small 5-game slate so let’s get on with it:

With the football season over we can now fully concentrate on the NBA.  Last weekend the article did awesome.  I had my best day of the year and if you followed the write up I am sure you did well too.  We have a 7 game slate on tap for tonight.  I want you to take note that I am not going to write up any of the starting Golden St. players.  It’s not that they aren’t good plays.   Golden St. is in the middle of a tough schedule.  They are playing their 6th game in 8 days, the  third set of a series of b2b’s.  After playing a tough game in Atlanta last night, a game against the Knicks gives Steve Kerr a opportunity to limit the minutes or rest some of the starters.
