(This episode is playing now, sorry about it not loading this morning! Accidental technical fubar.  But you can hear our sexy voices now!)

With the dog days of Summer slowly counting down and some of the leaves beginning to fall, it means it’s nearing basketball time!  The seasons change wayyyyy too fast in North Carolina, it stays too hot, there’s once nice week, then it’s effin’ cold again!  That’s why I prefer my sports indoors…  On today’s show, Slim and I catch up on some pieces of news including updates on two key Heat players and the Jrue Holiday situation, then continue our debates through my Top-50 and Top-75 ranks.  Our quibbles of course don’t get us through too much, so we’ll be back at the same time next week!  New Pod will be up next Friday morning as well!  Here’s our latest edition of the Razzball Basketball Podcast:

    Sup’ JB how it’s going?

I have a couple of questions for you.

    1. What do you think about Solomon Hill, is he a viable option in a 12 team league. I mean, the Pels are reaaaally a mess. Tyreke is out, Pondexter will not be ready to start the season (maybe he will, but that’s really slow process), they are thin on wing positions.

    2. I think every fantasy franchise should have a cornerstone, and I play auction draft in my league, so you could guess those kind of players are expensive. So, I’m trying to find some star under the radar that should surprise this season. Cue in, Demarcus Cousins. I think he’ll have a fantastic season under Joerger who is a great cocah and capable of controling Demarcus and forming a good relationship with him ala Malone, whic is pretty big deal for Boogie. He’ll be a lot cheaper than Davis, KAT, not to mention Westbrook or Harden.

    3. Some sleeper candidates:

Capela- I don’t care about his ft%, I can live with that, but he should really turn it up this year on defensive end, and as a great pick&roll guy, double double average with almost 2 blocks per game is not far fetched for him.

Adams- Will he play at least 30 min per game? He had nice playoff run and should built from that.

RHJ- MKG-Winslow, simillar type of players, if they stay healty, should produce real value.

    4. In what order would you put these players?

    Crowder-Bazemore-Porter-D. Carroll-A. Gordon

@Melo: Yo, what’s up man?! Sorry slow with the comments today, I’m out on the road and had to fix it this pod issue… 1- sure, maybe early season in a streamer sense, you can read more on his rank which will be out in the next few mins 🙂 2 – I got Cousins at 17 in my RCL draft and still wasn’t too thrilled…. That late I think is worth it, but even with good coaching, it doesn’t take out the injury risk and tough to build around TO and high volume bad FT… 3 – love Capela! I ranked him last year too. We’ve talked about him a ton. Adams is kinda meh in fantasy, definitely better real life player than fantasy contributor, but I like him as a late round filler. 4 – sounds like you need to catch up on my ranks posts 🙂 I have them crowder, Gordon baze, Carroll, porter pretty sure

        @JB Gilpin:

        Thanks for the reply man.

Haha, I’ve been monitoring your rankings, don’t worry about that, but still. You seem really high on Crowder, is he worth it with Horford taking some more offensive touches at PF/C position, and Smart taking on a larger role on offense. Brown looks like he’s ready to contribute.

Capela it is, I’m taking him for sure!

I’ll probably pay up a lot of $$$$$$ for players ala KAT or Davis, pair them up with another beast such as Millsap or Kawhi, and wait for under the radar players that could and should have a breakout season.

@Melo: I don’t think any of that hurts. Remember a lot of crowders numbers went down after he came back from a late ankle sprain – played less minutes and was playing through it. Brown doesn’t concern me at all for playing time and I don’t think there’s a reason to think If smart took a big step forward it would impact crowder. Not like he’s scoring 20+ a game and NEEDS touches, you draft him for %s, low TO and the sweet sweet out of position steals. Oh for sure in an auction league, I might save th premium on the top 4 and go KAT too!

First time RCL participant. I am Hassan’s Whitesiders. How do you crown the champion of champions? What does that mean? When I win our league, is there an expert’s league I graduate to next year? haha

You have Porzingis around ten spots higher than Melo. What do you think is each players floor and ceiling is. You would think Melo has a higher floor and equal ceiling to Porzingis so why is the Goose ahead?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

@bgrizzle: oh definitely disagree with that. Porzingis had a historic rookie season, and I could see his upside getting into the top 10 – monster blocks with 3s is such a hard combo to find. Melo doesn’t really have any upside anymore, I note he could get more dimes, but he doesn’t help in defensive stats plus has a history of knee issues as he moves into the twilight of his career.

@bgrizzle: move on from melo or pls play in my league and take him top 35 😉

Great stuff as always guys. As a Jazz fan, I just want to add my two cents about Hayward and Hill. Slim is definitely right about George Hill; the ball is still going to go through Hayward and Hood, especially Hayward. Hill is the perfect fit for the Jazz because he shot 45% on catch and shoot 3’s last season and he’s an excellent defender. He’ll have his possessions but a lot of his time will be spreading the court opening up lanes. I think Hayward is underrated at 45th and would slide him up a few spots. He’s never had the talent around him that he does now and the Jazz can play some very good offensive lineups now. I think the 3P% goes up which will come with a career high in 3PM (I bet he gets to 2 per game or even more) while keeping up a great free throw volume and 4ish assists.

@Viz: Thanks for listening man! Through Hood? He didn’t do *that* much with AST last year… Hayward is always a good distributor, but meh. I mean, Burks in his prime stretches of games or Hill for offense? Not like Favors is different or Gobert can do much offensively. I think it’s kinda status quo, and even better defensively for you guys, i love Hayward in real life, but I don’t think I’m investing any higher in fantasy – but we’ll see!
