Don't be shellfish...Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+

The Razzball Commenter Leagues are about set. The original RCL got wet, spawned slime cocoons, and are waiting to hatch and take over the city as we speak. The details of the leagues were posted last week. Click this link, or search for the post the old fashioned way. Smoke signaled Morse code? Not quite that old fashioned.

We’re going to run this league similarly to how we’ve run both Razzball baseball and football. We’ll start with three leagues of 12 and adjust accordingly after that.  Each league has an organizer.  The duties of the organizer will be to accept 11 other people into the league, and set it up at ESPN at the most conducive draft time and during the season post league updates in the standings.  Just choose one organizer from the three RCLs and contact them.  If we don’t get enough to fill the leagues, we’ll combine them. And then I’ll project my disappointment onto all of you for not getting your friends involved. Then I’ll feel bad about freaking out on you, because, really, you’re a great group of people who didn’t deserve my attitude. Then I’ll send you an Edible Arrangement and we’ll be good because people love eating pineapple slices made to look like tulips. If we need to expand past three teams, we’ll just skip to the Edible Arrangement phase. When you e-mail the organizers, include three days and times when you would be available between Monday Oct. 4 and Sunday Oct. 10 to participate in a live snake draft. Once the organizer has a full league, he’ll organize a draft time most convenient for the majority of the league.

If you haven’t already, leave a comment if you’re interested in playing. If you want to be an organizer, should we need more, leave that in the comments as well. Also, Razzball hoops is Tweetering and engaging in the Facebookery. We invite you to join in and skip to our loo.

@Adam: Good morning Adam! I’m slowly migrating to this side of Razzball from the Baseball sector. I’m going to be in a 14 team H2H league. Will you be posting a draft strategy post? If not, what is a good general strategy? Draft Guards early, get a stud Center, etc…? I usually go for best available and try to get well-rounded guys, then focus on specific stats later. Let me know if you want to know any league specifics. Thanks!

@ThE sHiT: There will be specific draft strategy posts later this week, into the next and then trickling in up until a week before the season starts. All but two of the leagues I’m in don’t draft until 14 days before the start of the season. Yes, I’m aware of how abnormal that is in many circles.

@Adam: Koo, thanks for responding. All the leagues I have been in, including football and baseball, draft right before the season starts. Usually we draft a week before showtime. Anyway, I’ll be looking forward to your strategy posts.

@Adam: Also, how much mock drafting is good? Any specific site you recommend for that?

@ThE sHiT: As unpopular as this opinion may be, I don’t love mock drafting. It’s like playing cards with someone who’s never played cards before: if everything went according to plan, sure, things would work out how you assume it would, but realistically everyone is different and I find a lot of energy is wasted trying to grow accustomed to predicting unpredictability. I mean, I was in a league last year that saw both Tyreke Evans AND Peja Stojakovic drafted in the sixth round. You never found THAT in any mock drafts, I assure you.

If you’re really into it, I’ve done a few dozen mock drafts on Yahoo! that were both convenient and organized. If you haven’t already, start there.

@Adam: I feel the same way about mock drafting. Only thing I get out of it is seeing where certain players are being taken. I usually look at the relative draft position of the “hot” rookie or the popular sleeper pick. But, I’ll do a couple mock drafts just to get my timing down and familiarize myself with any new changes.

I’m looking for razzball poster d2bnz – I know you’re reading this forum!! Let me know what league you’re signing up for so we can play against each other :)

Additionally, mockdraftcentral.com is a good site for mock drafts. It’s cool because you can customize the league settings, make it a 16-teamer with YAHOO positions eligibility, for example so you can actually get some practice with the settings you use. It’s a little abandoned right now but it’ll have more activity as the season draws nearer.

I’ve never played fantasy basketball. Is one of these leagues geared towards beginners? If not, I’m up for the challenge

@Fresh: Good question. All the leagues are a mix of skill levels. There will be some who have been playing fantasy hoops for years and some just starting now.

Hit me up! League is still open.

@Adam, are we using default stats?

    Adam says:

@chris: We’re nixing TOV and sticking with 8-cat (FG%, FT%, 3PTM, PTS, RBD, AST, STL, BLK). I can’t remember if that’s ESPN’s default or not.

  16. chris says:
    (link)

    Yeah, that’s ESPN’s default.

I have about 8 openings. Will follow Chris lead and post the league URL tomorrow (once I create the league) so we can get this filled and set our draft date/time.

  21. Adam

    Adam says:

@Brian Eades: Yeah. E-mail any of the three league organizers (Your choice, there’s no difference. The organizers are listed at the end of this post). When you contact one of them, give them three dates and times between Mon. Oct.4 and Sun. Oct. 10 that you will be available for a live draft.

Your organizer will e-mail you the rest of your league info.

When you e-mail them, give them three dates and times between Mon. Oct.4 and Sun. Oct.10 that you would be available for a live online draft.

    Thanks!
