The Razzball Elite League (REL) has just wrapped up week 4, with the Barking BassetHounds moving into a first place tie with our own Pete Nice with records of 25-10-1.  Go get em Petey!

We’ve moved the REL update to Tuesdays to hopefully give a few more owners time to recap their teams.  It’s easy for me to recap my team and FAAB pickups Monday morning as I’m up all night!  But laziness persists in Razzball Nation…  Especially when I keep thinking I’m going to get more FAAB competition but never do…  And I still can’t win a week!  Sigh… Here’s how week 4 went down:

 1. Barking BassetHounds (25-10-1)

FAAB Remaining: $20  FAAB Moves this week: n/a

2. Pete Nice – Razzball (25-10-1)

FAAB Remaining: $28  FAAB Moves this week: Shelvin Mack ($19), Xavier Henry ($3)

Pretty happy to be coming away with a decisive 7-2 win last week vs. the formidable Nashed Potatoes despite Thaddeus Young’s disappearing act and no contributions from the since-jettisoned Anthony Randolph and Pretty Gal Mekel as well as Jonas Jerebko, who also should have been chucked into the waiver pool. Some really encouraging signs: My sleeper John Jenkins finally got some run for Atlanta. E’Twuan Moore, the target of some ribbing from JB, had a shocking 14-point performance against the Heat that included 4-4 from 3-point land. The big mover was Charlotte’s Jeff Adrien, who made the most of the minutes he got last week by hauling in 10 boards twice and swatting four shots in a game. We’re in win-now mode, and those expectations are even higher thanks to two more acquisitions in Mack and Henry who should actually play. If we can get some Gobert action this week, we’ll be golden against Kap’s Team.

3. The Nature Boy (23-11-2)

FAAB Remaining: $84  FAAB Moves this week: n/a

4. Breaking Batum (23-13-0)

FAAB Remaining: $97  FAAB Moves this week: n/a

A strong week from Aldridge, Deng, and Redick paced Breaking Batum in week 4. After being shut out in FAAB bidding, Breaking Batum looks to continue their early season success with several players coming off injury. There have not been many lopsided victories to start the year, but consistent week to week performance has placed this team near the top of the standings.

5. Like A Josh – IFBL (22-14-0)

FAAB Remaining: $62  FAAB Moves this week: n/a

6. Doug – tdbsports.com (21-15-0)

FAAB Remaining: $98  FAAB Moves this week: n/a

7.  Martyball – IFBL  (21-15-0)

FAAB Remaining: $99  FAAB Moves this week:  n/a

8.  Kap’s Team (20-16-0)

FAAB Remaining: $92 FAAB Moves this week: Courtney Lee ($8)

I continue to win the threes, points, rebounds, and assists categories, but just didn’t have the defensive stats or field goal percentage to eek out more than a 5-4 win over JB. My team continues to stay relatively healthy (knock on wood) and I’ve benefitted from other players’ injuries. Martell Webster continues to play well for the injured Trevor Ariza, while Kirk Hinrich should see an uptick in playing time with Derrick Rose suffering a torn meniscus.
Courtney Lee became my first waiver wire addition of the season, as I dropped Wizards backup point guard Eric Maynor. Despite signing a deal with the Wizards in the offsesason to be the primary backup point guard to John Wall, Eric Maynor recently lost playing time to Garrett Temple. Lee isn’t a huge upgrade, but should see the court much more than Maynor.

9. Hoopus Alleyoopus (19-16-1)

FAAB Remaining: $92 FAAB Moves this week: n/a

10. Nashed Potatoes  (18-17-1)

FAAB Remaining: $91  FAAB Moves this week: n/a

11. Cigar Smoking Monkey (18-18-0)

FAAB Remaining: $43  FAAB Moves this week: n/a

12. Scurry to the Left (17-19-0)

FAAB Remaining: $100  FAAB Moves this week: n/a

13. Slim – Razzball (15-19-2)

FAAB Remaining: $49  FAAB Moves this week: Jeremy Evans ($21), Daniel Orton ($17)

No shame in this week’s loss, team ‘Like A Josh – IFBL’ looks like a team that will be in the running for a playoff spot all year.  I had no surprises from my players playing well and, with a lisp, no noose is good noose.  My issues are with my guys who have lost their minutes.  Nicholson, Bennett, and Hardaway have all lost their 20 minute role, however their teams are losing regularly and a larger role could be coming.  All 3 have keeper potential so I’m not looking to move on, yet.  FAABing hell I spent 1/2 of my money this week.  I’m sure I overspent on Jeremy Evans at $21.  My thinking process went thusly: Kanter has been benched and is now hurt, Gobert isn’t getting off the bench until it’s a blowout, and finally his toughest competition for playing time is Marvin Williams!?  That all tells me Evans is in for a bigger role once he gets his sea legs back underneath him.  Daniel Orton for $17 was an overpay but I wanted him badly.  Orton has started 3 games in a row with Thaddeus Young out and Spencer Hawes resting.  I believe Orton starts if either remain out and could be extremely valuable for the long term if there is an injury or trade.  I’ve gotten almost nothing from my PF spots which both of my adds play and Hibbert can’t win blocks on his own which these two should also help.  Hopefully I can keep it close this week and with a little luck maybe even squeak out a win.

14. ChazTop-KevinBottom (15-21-0)

FAAB Remaining: $75 FAAB Moves this week: n/a

15. Ben – RotoGold (14-21-1)

FAAB Remaining: $100  FAAB Moves this week: n/a

16. JB Gilpin – Razzball  (13-22-1)

FAAB Remaining: $15  FAAB Moves this week: Marquis Teague ($22), Matthew Dellavedova ($19)

You know, my record blows – sure – but I still like my team.  After a 2-7 loss in week 1 to now first place Pete Nice, I’m 4-5, 3-5-1, 4-5 in my past 3, so it hasn’t been all bad.  Besides Raymond Felton, I’ve got everyone healthy now and enough position eligibility in all spots except Center.  I tried vigorously to trade for a big, but trading in this league has become harder than Tom Brady’s morningwood waking up next to Gizelle.  So I decided to spend really big again on the FAAB to shore-up my PG depth.  Teague is indeed a flyer, but in a league this deep, he has a lot of upside with Rose gone and Hinrich a big injury red flag.  Apparently no one else saw it that way, as a single $3 bid was all anyone else threw out there, which surprised me.  Teague is still really raw, and maybe I’m sucked in because I love his brother so much, but we’ll see what happens and he’ll get at least a little run with Hinrich starting.  Sure his dynasty future is just as cloudy, but if he does well, he’s a big trade candidate (was in trade talks this off-season) if Rose can get back healthy next year.  Maybe he ends up with a big role in 2013-14 somewhere else for a $1 keeper.  Dellavedova has won the SG starter’s role on Cleveland (while having PG eligibility), and will contribute a little bit of everything.  As I said in my Monday recap, I think he can turn into a poor man’s Corey Brewer, which I’ll take happily.  I won blocks against a superior team with superior bigs last week, so I think I can compete in most cats now, while having almost all young players for the dynasty’s future. I’m going to sit tight on my FAAB for a good while, hoping to catch a good C in a few weeks when/if a role player gets hurt on my squad.

17. Kinsey’s Team (13-23-0)

FAAB Remaining: $100 FAAB Moves this week: n/a

18. Team Tough Guy Town (12-22-2)

FAAB Remaining: $89  FAAB Moves this week: n/a

19.  I’m a Currian (11-25-0)

FAAB Remaining: $99  FAAB Moves this week: n/a

20. Mr Green – Nowhere (9-27-0)

FAAB Remaining: $47  FAAB Moves this week: Hollis Thompson ($3), James Jones ($2)
