With week 19 wrapping up in the Razzball Elite league, that means it’s it! Fin! One week left of the regular season. Wait, that means it’s not done then… Well it is for me! Hah, it has been for a while, I’m a week early with this intro! Only one matchup remains in the regular season to finally round out our six playoff contenders. Slim’s squad has been dirty for a while (I was ahead of him about a third of the way through!), and just put the icing on a 9-0 cake. I think it’s the only 9-0 win all season! My team beat Barking BassetHounds 7-2 in week 19. It helped that my studs (Carmelo, Pau, and Kevin Love) all played 4+ games, but I got solid contribution from top to bottom. Leandro Barbosa broke his hand and will be out for most, if not all of the regular season. I tried to pick up Ray McCallum this week to replace Barbosa, but was outbid by Like a Josh. I picked up Reggie Evans instead and hope that he continues to see increased minutes on his new team.

Through the first 9 weeks of the season my team’s record was 33-42-3, 9 games under .500 and nowhere near competitive. After a 9-0 shellacking of Mr. Green this week my record now sits at 104-63-4, more than 40 games over .500, which means that over the last 10 weeks my team has a record of 68-21-1. That seems good. I probably shouldn’t be surprised at how close I am to making the playoffs given the run I’m on but for some reason I still am. There isn’t one move I can point at and say, “That was the move did it for me” but there are a few that stick out. I made 6 trades this year but there are 2 that I feel made the biggest difference. Just before my win streak I traded away Porter and Nicholson for Duncan and Mike Miller. At the time adding Duncan put me over the top in boards and blocks. The negotiations dragged on for nearly a month and for a while I thought that delay might have cost me. The 2nd stand out trade was Bennett and Hardaway for Amir Johnson and Carroll. Eventually I’m going to look back and regret this one but I’m supremely confident that I wouldn’t be where I’m at now without having made that trade. I’ve made my fair share of terrible waiver adds but a few good ones stick out too. I spent a ton on Jeremy Evans and he was a very solid producer at a position of need until I had to let him go. DJ Augustin for $1 was probably the best move I made all year. If I had to pick one move that saved my season then I would say it was DJ. RKelly was another that I spent a ton of FAAB on, he was a top 100 guy when he got big minutes and even in a reduced role he’s been able to contribute across the board. The last add I made was a $1 flier on Jeff Adrien after just one game with the Bucks. Once again proving that it’s better to be lucky than good.
Ever since my loss a few weeks back to the top team I’ve focused all of my attention on trying to put together a squad for this final regular season match-up. I tried right up to the deadline to add some boards and blocks but I just couldn’t get a deal done that I was happy with, granted it’s not like I was offering all that much anyway since I wasn’t willing to part with any of my core 6. So the team is what it is, the trade deadline has passed and I only have $1 left to spend for a free agent which I have to save in case of injury, a benching, or for a potential keeper if/when I’m eliminated.

Another solid week, with a 6-1-1 win, three wins in a row, and five wins out of 6. After a devastating 13-22-1 start, I’m since 77-57-1. Still not quite a good enough win % in that time frame to make the playoffs, but close. I made some good trades to help my keepers and I’m excited for next season. I was fortunate to only have one 2-7 loss, but unfortunate given it was against Pete Nice’s team before his team suffered the Black Plague. I’m hoping to get a little revenge, but I’ve traded for keepers and not for anyone to help now. I grabbed Terrence Williams off the wire for pure speculation, go Cowboys! Oh wait, no not that WR, but the journeyman G/F just because he’s tearing up the D-League, and I dunno, couldn’t think of anyone else to spend my $1 on. T-Will has a 50-pointer and some 10+ assist games. Probably won’t land anywhere favorable enough where I’d keep him, but meh. Gary Neal was dropped this week, I wish I had my $1 for him but will likely be outbid. Time will tell if my aggressive early-season FAABing helped out, but I like landing Mike Scott, Khris Middleton, and Nick Calathes as $1 keepers. Sure that was only ~33% of my FAAB, but I learned how conservative the league was in the early parts of the season and can readdress next year accordingly.
