As the Podcast P personality further morphs into whatever this iteration is, one thing is for certain; the Sixers season continues to look either cooked (losing now eight straight) or just kinda cooked depending on what the Chicago Bulls are doing on any given night, and it seems like the last any given night, which was last night if you couldn’t keep up with my word-play, but it just so happens on that night, the Bulls were busy beating the Sixers 142-110. The aforementioned Paul George finished with 19 points in 30 minutes, just 2-7 from three. Though, he did go 1-for-1 with my heart with his “We’ve shown no sign of a team that will compete…” gem which should go over really well with a fanbase that once threw batteries or threw axes or some other stuff at Santa… who knows what barbarism is to come? (Reliant of course, on how long the Super Bowl victory high will last. Just remember, no one can sober the best of them like a Joel Embiid flop. So the legend says…)
Josh Giddey scored 25 with 16 rebounds in that game (28/13/7 on 76%TS in his last three!) as he continues a very balanced 13/7/6, which I guess could be a rich man’s Ben Simmons. But the last week has been a nice surprise.
In Colorado’s win against the Pacers, Nikola Jokic nearly missed another triple-double, going 18/9/19 on 9/14 shooting. Aaron Gordon did the rest of the work with 25 points on 11-17 shooting, 2-4 from three. Christian Braun continues to play major minutes, 37 last night with 17 points and 8 rebounds.
And in one crazy game, the Thunder were up 121-105 against the Timberwolves with 3:55 to go in the fourth quarter, and then the Wolves decided to go on a 16-0 run to force the tie, eventually winning in OT 131-128. Household name Nickeil Alexander-Walker scored 21, with Anthony Edwards with a near triple-double going 17/13/8 with a crucial block in those last four minutes. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 39 with 10 rebounds and 8 assists in the losing effort. Random stat, that makes OKC now 9-9 in games decided by less than 10 points, which is pretty opened-ended to interpretation. Though, my simple mind thinks that number should be higher based on their overall record, but what do I know?
Cade Cunningham (mmm, ham) scored 32 points with 9 rebounds and 7 assists against my currently hapless Clippers. That’s now 7 straight wins, something the Pistons haven’t done since 2015. Norm Powell continues to be out with a left patellar tendiopathy, which is the real blow to their offense. Kawhi is out for a bit with left foot soreness, and he’s been off and on since coming back, so his gear-up might now be a bit more delayed.
Just a quick non-weight, non-injury check-in with Zion Williamson (I know, very rare), but if you didn’t noticed, he’s now averaging 24.5/7.5/4.8/1.4/1 on 59% TS for the season. These are kinda near All-Star type of stats, no?
