Woooo-ie!  When I think about why I’ve had such a bad past four weeks, it became easy to forget just how good Kawhi Leonard is!  My deep league REL squad (20 team, 340 players owned) couldn’t handle the loss and I went into a Nicolas Cage Leaving Las Vegas tailspin of drinkery.  But I’m back baby!  Unfortunately not with Elisabeth Shue though…

Hitting the glass harder than a Coloradoan at a dispensary, Kawhi gobbled down 15 boards in a 17/15/3/2/1 line hitting 6-13 FG, three treys and 2-2 FT.  All is right with the world!  No fear in that hand, and no other Spurs player had more than 5 boards.  Box out, Jamba Jus!  I’ve been a big Kawhi fan his whole career, and I’m still eagerly awaiting the day Pop decides he will finally run Kawhi for 35 MPG.  Hasn’t gotten to 31 in his three games back from the hand injury, and while the minutes are up this year, it’s still only 32 MPG on the season.  Give him the Jimmy Butler treatment!  And then we’re talking some no-brainer first round shizz.  Maybe the big workload will happen once the vets are gone and Pop will be forced to play his superstar, but maybe Pop likes playing his hockey line changes.  At least we can look back on Tim Duncan who was playing 39 MPG his first 6 seasons.  Let the stars play!  Either way, it’s just good to have Kawhi back.  Here’s what else went down on a short night of NBA action:

Hassan Whiteside Oh no.  Sprained his ankle last night, left immediately, and has a Grade-1 ankle sprain.  Was playing great too!  5-5 FG and a swat.  I wish ankle sprains worked more on the hippie college professor scale.  It’s a pass or fail!  No grades!  Grade-1 is the least severe according to Ask Jeeves, but he’s already out for tonight’s game at Charlotte.  That said, it was a one game road trip, then back home Friday and he could be back by then.  I wouldn’t make a rash move.

Dwyane Wade One guy gets hurt, another returns.  Real circle of life situation we got here in Miami.  Bounced back from being hamstrung for 18/2/6/1/0 on 8-18 FG and 2-4 FT.  Not great, but not awful.  A healthy Dwyane Wade always seems like playing with house money, so after a hot streak I would pound on that trading block again.

Luol Deng Had some sniffies but gutted through it for a typical Deng line of [stats not found].  He’s also not traveling to Charlotte tonight, but it seems like the Heat are giving anyone that needs it a little break, so maybe Spoelstra doesn’t travel either…

Shabazz Napier Played a lot of the backup G minutes early, but Norris Cole came in and played those minutes in the second half.  With Wade back and Mario Chalmers starting (and back to being full scrub), there’s just no reason to own Napier and Cole unless in the deepest of leagues.

Dion Waiters Ewwwwwwww, “it smells like a diaper full of Indian food!”  Couldn’t get anything going in 26 bench minutes for 1-9 FG, 1-2 FT 3/0/0/0/0.  A lot of goose eggs in there!  Waiters slammed the Cavs a little for not letting him get enough rock, but tonight the Cleveland side is feeling smart!

Reggie Jackson Well, while R-Jax and Anthony Morrow were going off from the bench last night, Waiters was not invited to the party.  16/2/1 on 7-9 shooting for R-Jax with a few treys, so maybe a little more work will come his way.  Even though Waiters inexplicably played more minutes yet again…

Kevin Durant 19/8/8/4/1 without a single TO.  Beastly!  But struggled from the field shooting 9-24 and 0-8 from deep.  Get it together, KD!  Unacceptable!

Serge Ibaka Another ewwwwww.  9/4/0/0/1 with 4 TO and had a little foul trouble with 5 personals.  He’d been playing better lately, and a flurry of blocks is right around the corner, I can feel it!  I can feel it, Razzball Nation!

Kenneth Faried Well, Manimal gobbled up all the big man stats that were supposed to go to my stream J.J. Hickson!  26/14 for Faried, who if given 37 minutes every night would be studly.

Jusuf Nurkic Jamba Jus!  Gave us a little more life for 10/9/2/0/0, but where dem steals and swats at?!  Nice to see 26 minutes, but Nurkic had a few rebounds spray out of his hands, looked a little slow, and this was a dream matchup against the soft Spurs interior.  I still am holding where I can, but bleh.

Jameer Nelson – Well, at least the other stream call went well!  8/3/6 from Nelson with 4 TO and no threes.  Yeah, I read it!  I guess that’s not too great…  Looks like the heavy dose of minutes is legit though.  Trade bait!

Randy Foye – Second game back wasn’t all that much better.  No reason to stash him through the easing in process.

Manu Ginobili – The assists resurgence!  8 last night, and a little hard to believe he’s at a career-best AST mark.

Aron Baynes “Yesssssssss!”  (in the Tom Hardy voice)  15/4/0/0/1 on 3-3 FG and 9-9 FT.  Yessssss, Baynes had 9 FT in only 15 minutes.  Some Australian haters on the Nuggets!

Danny Green Rough, rough one for the Tarheel Triple, hitting only 2-12 from the field (2-8 3PTM) for 6/2/2/1/1.  At least hit all the cats!  The low TO and multi-cat makes him a metrics darling, but I still think he’s sometimes a little underrated.  I would shoot some buy lows if owners are looking green in the face.

Streamers/Cheap Daily League Picks:

Langston Galloway (7% owned) – Returning to his old stomping ground!  The Knicks go to Philly where Langston played 4 years at St. Joe’s.  Great matchup with a little bit of that “behind the scenes” narrative flavor – yeah I think he will have a niceun.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (17% owned) – Well, I’m going with a ThrAGNOF I’m streaming in a league tonight, and just a feeling in my KCP addiction ravaged gut that he has a nice one against the Magic.  2+ treys in 3 straight and oddly a block in 4 straight.  Mostly hoping for 18 Pts, 3 treys, and a little something extra to ice the cake.

I hope everyone is having a solid week, and thanks for stopping by!

Damn KD!! With all those attempts easily a 40+ point game!! Was he having a bad day, or somebody guarded him like how P-Bev would guard an opposing player?? LOL. But there was a report he fell hard on his elbow maybe that bothered him a little… I think pop would play Kawhi heavy minutes sooner than later, west standings’ tight as f!! JB, can u like make a guess of the guys you think will be traded? Deadline is just around the corner!! Possible trades that involve our players(or our players’ teams) would def affect our aspiration of becoming champions! LOL.

@Dante Green: I know right?! Yeah I didn’t see the elbow thing until today, but I doubt it’s any long term thing.

Let’s hope Pop amps it up! Well Lance Stephenson for sure, the Nets guys DWill and BRolo and Jack, Jameer again, Jose Calderon, Thad Young… I think msot of those guys get moved

      • Dante Green says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: Haha! I can see how much u love Kawhi, makes me wanna have him on my team! I wish dirk+mcw for him could do the trick tho.. Hah

@Dante Green: It was nothing more than a hit to the funny bone. Shot didnt fall. Thats all.

Wilson Chandler, Amar’e, any Knick really. Anyone on a bad team in the last year of their contract. I think it really is that simple.

@Slim: thanks slim for the Info, you and Jb are the best!!

    Drop Whiteside for Nurkic?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Larry: Yeah I prob would, I like FT% more and Whiteside missing a game or two is enough for me to keep wid Nurk

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Larry: I think this might still be team dependent. They offer such drastically different stat lines. Whiteside is being really nice to FG%. A bit underrated. Heat with a significantly better playoff schedule if that matters.

  3. Shaft says:
    (link)

who would you rather own ROS, deron Williams or Jarret Jack? Obviously Jack is the only one on the court right now. But thinking long term as the last spot on my bench is it worth taking a flier on D-Wil? He was just dropped in my league.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Shaft: Ehhhh, I mean both are trade candidates too, so I think there’s even risk with upsides, I’d own Jack

  4. Michael says:
    (link)

    Hey JB.

    10 Man – 9 Cat – H2H Daily

Just sold high on afflalo for Rondo. (Was tanking 3s since I usually lose that Cat)

    PG: Teague, Lawson, Dwill, Rondo
    SG: Knight, Ellis
    SF: Gay, Giannis
    PF: Millsap, Ibaka, Noel, Gibson
    C: Hibbert

Was offered my Teague + Noel for Bosh + MCW.

What do you think? I’m scared the hawks might rest their starter again down the stretch towards end of the season.

    • Michael says:
      (link)

      @Michael:

I also been offered Parsons + Gortat for Millsap. I would be dropping Gibson.

      • Michael says:
        (link)

@Michael: I’m leaning towards in making both trades…

        • JB Gilpin

          (link)

@Michael: Ugh, so I answered and my web crapped out! Haha.

Love the Rondo move. = awesome. I like the Bosh one, I think you can handle MCW’s negatives and you get the best player. Not as in love with the Millsap one, I understand the Hawks concerns but I’m not too big on parsons stepping it up and not a big Gortat fan ROS

  5. Zar says:
    (link)

    Hey JB

In a vacuum, would you take Nelson or waiters?

Nelson stunk it up earlier and waiters stunk it up yesterday.

also, one phone, I keep getting redirected to an app download called the blue nation review. Is there anything the site can do about that? I’ll try on my end

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Zar: Hahahaha, it’s funny you bring those guys up, we’ve talked those 2 vs each other past 2 pods. I was Waiters yest, Jameer today.

Hmmm, sounds like something funky in your cache, can you clear cache?

  6. Scott says:
    (link)

Need a fill-in for Whiteside tonight. Plumlee, Gobert, or Len?

    • Scott says:
      (link)

@Scott: It looks like Anthony Davis is playing tonight? I have him. ESPN has O next to his name, but the comments says he will play. ???

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@Scott: Yeah Davis is playing. He’s obviously your play, but just in case I read it wrong, of those other 3 I would play Gobert

    • Bye Felicia says:
      (link)

@Scott: gobert is still on waivers? Id own him over all those guys. If he starts the 2nd half he’s going to kill the basketball monster!

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@Bye Felicia: Too bad they love Kanter soooooo much!

  7. Connor says:
    (link)

I’m looking to deal Drummond, I don’t have much hope of winning blocks and hate the FT drain. What kind of name would you look to target? Duncan? Favors? Bosh?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Connor: Bosh would be a good start, but prob can’t do it 1-for-1. Favors though? That might work right away. I’d be in that range, wouldn’t go for Duncan.

  8. Nishinga says:
    (link)

Which side in 10 teams, H2H, Yahoo 9cat.
Oladipo, Valancuinas and Korver for Batum, Danny Green and David West.

    • Nishinga says:
      (link)

      @Nishinga:
      and which side in:
Oladipo, Vucevic and Jennings for Griffin and Danny Green?

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@Nishinga: I like Green as a buy low, but I like left side on the top. Bottom one, probably taking Griffin if I like my playoff seeding, those ORL guys with that awful playoff sched…

  9. Jason says:
    (link)

1st time fantasy basketball player here. i used your rankings to dominate my draft and i am currently killing it. i would like to win…where can i find mid-season rankings ? i want to make some trades and hit the waiver wire…win win win!! – thanks, j

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Jason: Welcome to hoops man, glad you’re doing well and we could help a tad! So unfortunately we don’t do mid-season rankings, first because we spend so much time on season ranks and it’s just impossible to do a proper reranks we’re comfortable with. But mainly it’s that we answer every comment, so we could rank a few guys you’re wondering about on the fly!

  10. Nurkic for President says:
    (link)

I’m sad for Whitside and Nurkic.

Would you trade Lawson, THarris, JJohnson for MConley, DannyGreen, JamalCrawford ?

    • Nurkic for President says:
      (link)

@Nurkic for President: BTW my team is:
      Harden, Lawson, Teague, Knight
      JJohnson, THarris, Kieff, Covington
      Bosh, Gortat, Nurkic, MPlumlee, Whiteside

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@Nurkic for President: Yeah I’m sad too… Ummm, yeah i think I make that move in H2H, Tobias with the bad playoff shced and I think Green will play most games. A little more safety with Conley too

  11. Johnny says:
    (link)

Hey JB wanted to get your thoughts on elfrid… He’s been hot lately, would you give up a PBev for him?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Johnny: I like Elfrid, I think he regresses a little when Tobias comes back and touches a lot of rock, but yeah I’d prob take him over Pbev in a vacuum. If 3s were a need I’d prob stick with Pbev

      • Johnny says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: Sweet.. I’m trying to work a package deal that would get me Korver as well for the 3s

        Thanks!

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Johnny: Cool, sounds like a plan, any time!

  12. Dusty says:
    (link)

Hey, just wondering who you would rank top 3 of the following guys in short term value (9-cat) and if you see any potential on the tank teams with more trading (Knicks, Lakers, 76ers, etc),
Josh Smith & Motiejunas (3-3-2-2 schedule through the all star break)
    OJ Mayo (3-4-2-2)
    Nene (3-4-2-2)
    Tony Allen (4-4-2-1)
    Langston Galloway (4-3-2-2)
    Iman Shumpert (4-4-2-2)

btw, on a team with Dwight, JSmoove, Plumlee and Bogut I had .831 FT last week, have you ever heard of such an absurd anomaly?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Dusty: I’d go Nene, Galloway (I’m a fan), then motie (even with bad playoff sched). I think Galloway can surprise on the tank team. Maybe Jordan Clarkson emerges at some point for the Lakers? Early for the Knicks?

Hhaahaha, awesome week at the Ft line! That’s as crazy as it gets man…

  13. dom says:
    (link)

have a spot to stream Thursday, is Jarret Jack a bad matchup with Chris Paul? I need assists.

basketballmonster has Matt Barnes, Kris Middleton, and Marcus Smart all ranked ahead of Jack for Thursday for my settings…

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@dom: Nah, I think it would be solid. Barnes overall I think I might like a tad more, but I think Jack with an ast need makes the most sense.

  14. Bgrizzle says:
    (link)

I’m 1st in my league and I have some leeway on my Blk,FG% and Reb and I was looking to get an upgrade on some of my other cats like STL,3PT and PTS. I can move any of the following players

    Favors
    Whiteside
    Giannis

    Any ideas of trade targets?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Bgrizzle: Ugh, well Favors is your best asset and I love him 🙂 Haha. I dunno what Whiteside would bring, especialy with a minor injury at the moment. So I think Giannis is probably your sell. For Ariza?

  15. YOho says:
    (link)

    Drop Nurkic for Ersanity??!!
I think I may be going crazy

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@YOho: Haha Ersanity… Def not going crazy, it’s close. I’d stick with Nurk though

  16. Philzilla (Cats Like War Milk) says:
    (link)

Just sold Nurkic in my keeper league for Bosh and Young Thad. Sad to see him go but I may have sold high before Shaw does something drastic.

  17. Bye Felicia says:
    (link)

Well I own Jru in 4 leagues (everywhere) this news is pretty devastating considering I just traded a PG in two of those leagues before he got hurt. Damn!

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Bye Felicia: Yikesssssss, yup a brutal one… hopefully it’s the lower side of 2-4 weeks, but I kinda doubt it…

  18. Bye Felicia says:
    (link)

Can you link that games played play-off article Slim wrote before the season began? I can’t find it

  19. Lasandro says:
    (link)

Would dealing my Kieff for parsons be a good move for moi? Need a scoring multi cat with threes

    • Lasandro says:
      (link)

I read your comment above re:trading Drummond away. I too tried the Drummond for bosh route, but I’m not getting bites. What about my Drummond and Ty for bosh and either Teague or knight? Also, been offered favors for Drummond – you really on board with that, as your reply above suggests? Despite your preseason ranks? My only concern is that he may cede mins to when gobert is on the floor.. But very interested to hear your thoughts bra

    • Lasandro says:
      (link)

@jb Gilpin: or better switching Drummond with ibaka in these trade scenarios? Like y’all mentioned on the pod, ibaka hovering on the perimeter is killin his O brd and %s. Drummond certainly had the bigger upside, less the 3s obviously, which I could hopefully get back in a trade for bosh and either of those two pgs

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@Lasandro: Ehhhhhh I think I still like Kieff more. Less 3s, but rest should mostly go to Kieff.

Whew, Favors vs. Drummo…. Drummond looking better. I like Favors’ FG/FT upgrades, but Drummo is looking better. Can’t decide, coin flip if those team needs don’t help.

Eh, don’t love the Drummo trade, I still like Ty too. Hmmmm Ibaka for Drummo. I like Ibaka for those 3s and %s! That could fit too.
