We are entering the 4th month of Fantasy Basketball, and if your leagues run with any similarity to mine, there should be approximately 20%-30% teams in your league that are essentially approaching being out of any playoff contention. These fellows may no longer be paying attention to their daily lineup, won’t be perusing the waiver wire as much, and won’t be as motivated to do much of anything other than blame the Basketball Gods, and any analyst that whose advice they had the misfortune to follow (ah, ahem.).  If you are in a keeper league, and have a shot this year, take a close look at their lineup, and make an offer with draft picks as incentive. If you are in a total redraft, the following means little to you, and I wish you godspeed. To those of you that have a shot at scooping some quality off the basement dwellers, let me make mention of some particularly appealing cats you should try to pry away:

BUY:

Salah Mejri C

If you aren’t from Dallas, you’re saying “who???”, and you’d be right to be saying that, and truthfully, most Texans are saying that anyways. But Zaza Pachulia is out for the Mavs with an achilles injury, and this 7’2″ Tunisian has emerged like a delicate giant butterfly. Maybe Mothra is more apropos. He’s 3% owned, and had 10/11/0/0/3 with a .667 FG%. What was absolutely mesmerizing was his block on James Harden. Nasty enough for a speculative add, IMO, as Coach Car will have certainly taken notice of his hustle, and should reward him with minutes.

Eric Bledsoe PG, SG

This only applies if you’re one of those sad sacks that are already out of contention. Here’s the deal: you’re at the bottom of your league, and you have to come up with 4 keepers, and 2 of the cats you have penciled in to those positions aren’t top 50 players. Is Bled a risk? Absolutely, he’s had injuries to both knees now, but are you really gonna hold onto Jared Sullinger as your 5th guy? Trade a bench warmer for this potential, and then start watching Tennis.

Nicolas Batum SG, SF

The flying Frenchman is in a soft boot, his toe has been bothering him, so he’s not coming back this week, but if you can afford to stash him, he would be a solid pick up for the stretch run, and the injury should drive the price down a touch.

Brandon Knight PG, SG

Knight, like Batum, is out for a short term injury. He should be back in 4-6 games. But with Eric Bledsoe out, he will get all the touches he can handle in the desert, no? And, like big Nic, his injury may help you on the bargaining front.

SELL:

True Holiday PG

Holida-aay! Celebrate! True went off for a career game, both in minutes and production last game, and the price will never be higher. He has been murder in dimes, steals, and basically everything except blocks. A high mid draft pick would be fair to aim for, if I were you.

Jeremy Lin PG, SG

I hate his stoopid hair. It bothers me more than I care to admit. Really whack wig piece, son! But Lin has been solid to very good while Batum has been injured, and the selling point, like his hair, has come to an apex.

That’s all I got for this week, kids. So until next time, may all your shots be nothing but net!

I’m not selling True just yet. Reason being is because his trade value could skyrocket with Gordon out and Reke+AD continuing to miss games.

I believe he was 22nd in per game value last season and I think he could very well be in the top 40 ish from here on out if healthy. For some bizarre reason I’m getting the impression that he is the sturdiest player in Nawleans right now… But yeah I’m pulling the trigger if I can swing him for somebody with less injury risk in that range.

@Ryan: I get your thinking, but how many games has he sat for you this year? It’s all about what your personal threshold is for risk. I’m pretty risk adverse, I admit.

Hey, Dan! Bazemore or Covington ros? With Dragic set to return on Friday, I have to drop one of them to activate him. Thanks!

@Jerry: I guess I’d stick with Covington, more of an impact all over, and he has been killing it from far.

    Playoffs start week20.
Should i drop blake griffin for tjones, leuer or a streamer?

@Tyler: Hmm. I’d see what his timeline is, he’s heads and shoulders above the 2 you listed. If you can manage to hold him without slipping too much, I’d try. You can always stream closer to the playoffs if you get too nervous he won’t be back.

In a 12 team 9 cat h2h league how do you feel about offering jae crowder and ariza for jimmy buckets? I’m really on the fence about this one let me know what you think thanks!

    • Dan A

      Dan A says:

@Wallaboutthebenjamin$: I believe that almost always, the guy with the best player wins the trade, and Jimmy is the best. Remember, you don’t only get Jimmy, you get the cat you can manage off the waiver (Mejri??). And I say that with a full on crush on Jae Crowd, he has had my eye for the last 3 years, you’re gonna have to give to get.

      • Wallabouthebenjamin$ says:
        (link)

@Dan A: yeah it’s hard as hell to let go of Crowder right now and even Ariza with his recent outburst that solidified an 8-1 for me last week but just like you said you gotta give to get. I actually offered this trade last night and he accepted I just needed some peace of mind haha really appreciate the input!

@Wallabouthebenjamin$: Look at it this way: you took a guy you probably snatched off the waiver, or was a las-ish round draft, and turned him into a top 10 talent, along with a mid round guy. Not too shab…

@Dan A: Since you put it that way I can’t wait until the trade goes through tonight. Just scared of the veto squad that seems to haunt my league everyones been getting the Mt. Mutombo treatment lately.

@WALLabouthtebenjamin$: that sucks, but haters gonna hate. The spirit of the trade veto is to eliminate insider trading 2 teams combining to make a super team, but now some guys see the veto as a strategy to keep their opponents from improving. I hope it goes through. And hey, if it doesn’t, jae and ariza are still great assets.

Thoughts on Kobe? In a 12 team 9 cat h2h, droppable? There are guys like WCS and T.Allen available to grab.

    Thanks!

@Javale4MVP: I’m surprised you’ve held on this long, with due respect to his great legacy. I’d take Willie over Allen, I think, despite Tony’s monster game on monday.

What do you think of this trade: DeAndre Jordan for Paul Millsap? Millsap has been on a tear and is a fantasy monster for his ability to produce across the board and he doesn’t hurt you anywhere. Sure I’d be giving up the league leading FG% leader but DJ’s average/shots per game is 6 so it’s not too high. I’d also be giving up the 2nd best rebounder at 13 per game but my team is pretty solid with rebouding. Also, I’d be giving up a top 3 shot blocker but DJ’s blocks have been trending down over the past month, which is concerning because Blake Griffin hasn’t been playing during that span so I feel that is somewhat of a letdown for DJ. And his freethrow %’s are horrible and he’s averaging 7 a game, which is not good. He shoots the 2nd most free throws in my team behind James Harden. With Millsap, I’d be imprvoing my FT%’s, assists, and steals while still getting solid output in blocks and rebounds, which is what DJ had been providing.

@Cesar: it’s a no brainer, imo. Paul Millsap is a top 20-30 player, and Jordan? Yahoo has him ranked at… Well nevermind, but it’s not great. He is getting more burn with Griffen out, but I really like Paul. Boards are easily made up with other players and attentive streaming, it’s only really the blocks that you’ll miss. But you gotta give to get.
