Happy New Year, one and all. You have burnt the yule log down to ash, and done drunk the eggnog up.  Now it’s New Year’s resolutions, and old year’s regret. I don’t want to be negative, however, as 2017 is still a wee baby, and we can nurture it along to be a fantasy monster. What are your ideas on how to do this? Me? I think you may want to consider making a deal for one of the players that may be on the move.  Who could that be, he asked speculatively? Let’s take a looksie, m’kay?

BUY:

Paul Millsap PF, C

Millsap will be pricey, to be sure. But he is an expiring contract, so if he gets moved, it will be on a team that has eyes on going deep in the playoff run. Paul would be a dynamic fit on a team like the Toronto Raptors, for example. Yahoo has him ranked at 37 currently. That puts him in the neighbourhood of DeMar DeRozanJae Crowder, and Brook Lopez. I would gladly take 17.2/8.5/3/1.7/.9 with a smattering of 3pts as well for Jae Crowder, or an injured Rudy Gay, for example.

Thabo Sefolosha SG, SF

The more affordable option that may possibly be on the move out of ATL, Thabo is a good get. He is on a 2 game swoon, going only 3.5/3.5/.5/.5/.5 over the last two, with 19.5 minutes per game of playing time. This is well below his season averages of 26 minutes and 1.9 steals per game. Buy low, good friend, buy low.

Jae Crowder SF, PF

This may be a bit of a reach, as there is little substance to the rumour that Crowder may be on the move, other than this: Boston fans, in their usual classy manner, cheered for Gordon Hayward when Utah came to town. Hayward is a free agent this coming off season, and Celts fans would love to see him in green. This understandably irked the current starting SF, Crowder. He tweeted his displeasure, and then responded to an inflammatory fan tweet, with a ‘I have no problem leaving’ (not verbatim) tweet that he then removed. Regardless of that, Jae, while not a buy low candidate, could be expected to kick it into high gear for the next while, and therefore should be sought after.

SELL:

Kyle Korver SF

Kyle has played very well in the last few games, well above his season averages. He, along with Kent Bazemore, have taken away some of Thabo’s minutes, and capitalized: 18/5.5/3/.5/.5 with 3.5 treys per game over his last 2. But his is still ranked 116 for the season in Yahoo. You may snatch up a player in the 60-80 range for him, if you play your cards right.

Nikola Jokic PF, C

This is always where I get burned, speculating whether or not a player on a hot streak is going to continue this way or not. Jokic has been straight murder the last 5 games, going 20.8/9/5.8/1/.3 with almost a trey per game. But the Nugs also have Jusuf Nurkic, and Nikola has a reputation for not being the best in the locker room, so that means trade rumours are swirling. Maybe he rises to the moment and blocks out the distractions, but maybe he doesn’t. I personally do not gravitate to uncertainty, so do with that what you will.

Ok, cool cats, that is all I have for this week. until next time, may all your shots be nothing but net!

Of course the Boston crowd were swooning over Hayward – he’s white and has a side part! Love the Celts team but have always despised those diehard fans. We get it Boston, your city reps a lighter shade of hue SMH.

@Lasandro: Bill Russell is perhaps the greatest player of all time, and a Celt. I don’t know if the race issue is as big as it may appear in Boston, but certainly he should be the biggest hero they have, with due respect to Larry.

@Dan A: I was def being tongue in cheek and very anti-Boston, but you make a solid point about Russell. Dare I say, however, Larry Legend is more revered by those Celts faithful from what you see and here around the media. I agree that Bill should be on top of that totem pole, not just due to his dominance and winning as a player, but his immense work with the civil rights movement back in the day.

Regardless, I do think that some of the fans over there would, in their heart-of-hearts, rather see a good looking, clean cut Captain America-type donning their jersey than Crowder. Sure they wouldn’t admit it, but hey, call me provocative. I don’t blame him for tweeting what he did.

@Lasandro: I agree with all you said. No knock on Larry, he was transcendent (most superfluous statement I think I may ever have made!). But Russell made a bigger impact both on and off the court. And any player would be pissed if the hometown crowd is cheering the opponent on without a reason (ex-player, farewell tour, etc.)

Should I offer my Trevor Booker for Nerlens Noel?

@Beal Parmesean: Currently Booker is far exceeding Noel. It seems that Philly wants to trade him, but as it stands, he is ranked 120+ in Yahoo, and Booker is ranked 69. I like Noel to improve if he gets moved, but he isn’t getting minutes. If you’re in a dynasty, maaaybe, but Booker can fetch you better than Noel. DeAndre Jordan, D. Howard, Gortat and S. Adams are all listed just after Booker in the current Yahoo rankings. I know trades don’t happen according to rankings,I just mention to give perspective. Don’t give up too much for potential, IMO. Hope this helps.

Haven’t heard that Nikola is a locker room problem–do you have a link to a story?

Drop sweetlou for james johnson? Locked for playoffs.
I also have mirotic, tyreke and gary harris but feel like they will be better for the stretch run.

@Tyler: as a Raps fan, I love JJ. He was here for 2 stints. But he can be infuriating, as he will play exceedingly well, and then fade off into little to no value. If you drop, be prepared to stream that spot when he fades away.
And I love his dunk on Andre Drummond, still one of the nastiest dunks on a rim protector in recent history:

@Dan A: so would you rather hold sweetlou then?

@Dan A: i could also drop tyreke but he seems to be trending in the right direction

@Tyler: I would be comfortable dropping Lou, as he is also a streaky guy. JJ offers more across the board, so he’s more attractive. Justise looks to be out for the season, also adding to JJ’s value. Just keep an eye on his swinging production.

Hi Dan, got a tough decision and need your help for waiver wire pickup.
I can drop: Darren Collison, Bojan Bogdanovic, Thabo Sefolosha
Who should I pick up? Ty Lawson, Sean Kilpatrick, Wayne Ellington, Marco Belinelli

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:

@Wen: I would be ok dropping Bojan, for Wayne Ellington or Belinelli maybe. Is James Johnson available? I’d prefer him to Wayne. I’d keep Collison and Thabs over what you listed.

  7. Brale says:

What do You think about trade N.Jokić for J.Teague? Primary I noticed better playoff schedule but I’m looking for one or two more argument to accept that offer.
There is big chance that Millsap is going to finish in Toronto. I am already having Valanciunas. What do you think about that situation if that happen, who to sell?

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@Brale: firstly, if millsap goes to the Raps, no need to get rid of either player. Millsap is an unselfish player who stretches the floor, and would help JV, not hurt him. As to the trade, who are you getting? I really like Teague for the second half of the year he got 22 with 15 dimes last game. Jokic has been a beast though, illness aside. It’s a fair trade, do you need big stats (boards blocks) or guard stats (dimes, steals)?

      • Brale says:
        (link)

I am getting Teague and giving Jokic. I’m playing H2H point 9cat 12teams. For the last month Jokic has better average stats for 2-3 points. So let say that they will bring me nearly same points till the playoff. In playoff Jokic has schedule 3/4/3 and Teague has 3/4/4,
        I also have G – Payton, Holiday, D.Williams, K.Leonard, McCollum, Hardaway and F/C – Millsap, Valanciunas, M.Turner, Gortat, Markief Morris, N.Noel.
