A real American hero! Are you old enough to remember the wisdom doled out by various G.I. Joe soldiers, such as Skidmark, Scarlett, Airtight and Ripcord at the end of the afternoon cartoon? When you were repeatedly reminded that knowing is half the battle? I have not forgotten these pearls of wisdom from the brave warriors who stood up to resist the nefarious C.O.B.R.A., but as they applied to regular life. What would Duke tell you about your fantasy team? He would tell you not to take candy from strangers, and to be aware of your league’s trade deadline! Yo Joe!

You need to be aware of when you can last make a deal, as the waiver wire is probably less likely to bear significant players. If you still can, check out if these cats would be Joe worthy:

BUY:

Norris Cole PG, SG

Norris isn’t going to take you to the promised land, but he is only 30% owned, and he is getting 30+ minutes in 6 of his last 7 games due to Tyreke Evans being down, and is putting up decent stats. I know I just said that there isn’t too much gold to mine on the waiver, but consider this the exception rather than the rule, and nab him if you need to stream a guy. And in these contradictory situations, I recall what my Grandma used to say to me: “you were adopted”. Which would have been fine, but it wasn’t true. So I choose to interpret this as: listen to advice given, but don’t take it as gospel. Yeah. That’s what she was trying to teach me.

Myles Turner PF, C

Turner is a cheaper than the blocking leaders if you need help with blocks, boards, points, and percentages. His minutes, while not exactly consistent, have been trending upwards.  Turner is a poor man’s Rudy Gorbert, who in turn is a poor man’s Hassan Whiteside. So that makes him a poor, poor man’s Hassan? Do with that what you will.

Al Horford PF, C

Jacking big treys to my dismay! Big Al has in the past 3 years increased his 3pt attempts, and he is now averaging almost 3 attempts per game. He will be one of the hottest free agents this off season in real life, and in fantasy, he is the shiznit! I know he had a monster game last go, so the buy lower-ish window of average play the last 2 weeks is probably closed, but in fantasy, like real life, anyone who adds this big cat to their squad for the stretch run will be very happy they did. So kick some tires, fella!

SELL:

Marvin Williams SF, PF

Big Marv is eatin, he most certainly ain’t starvin! Williams has played out of his head over the last few weeks, and he’s having a career year overall. He has been a delightful surprise from deep, adding a great dimension to his game. While there is no real reason to suspect that this caliber of play will end, you probably drafted him in the later rounds, and he is playing like a top 40 guy right now, so the selling point will never be higher.

Markieff Morris PF, C

Morris is straight murder these past few weeks, playing under coach Watson. This is fantastic for the Suns, as he is playing up his trade value, but if you own ‘Kieff, he may be on the move, and his touches, and by extension production, will take a serious hit. Try to sell this potential nose-dive threat and let someone else sweat the trade rumours.

Ok kids, remember to check your trade deadline date, because knowing is half the battle! Until then, may all your shots be nothing but net.

Holla!

    Great article!
Should I drop schroder for Cole or just wait 9 more days and see if a trade frees him up?

      @DORIAN:

I’m in the same exact position.
I say, unless you’d really be pissed if cole gets picked up and teague doesn’t get traded, just wait it out, especially if you can afford to hold onto schroder’s low end production right now.

He’ll be better than cole without teague, but it’s not guaranteed. I still say wait.

@DORIAN: I feel like he’s more of a stream, as while he’s doing really well now, his value will be affected in the short term, once Tyreke Evans returns. That said, Dennis has been underwhelming, so maybe take a shot that Cole can keep it rolling even when Tyreke gets back.
      Good luck!

    Gobert > Whiteside

@Threekola: I was going for humour, but I agree it’s up for debate. Yahoo has Hassan ranked 17th, while Rudy is 34th, for what that’s worth. Sorry to disappoint you, knowing that I have is half the battle to shame 🙁

Is Khawi Leonard a buy low? or is what he is a product of spurs being great and he doesnt have to be amazing. Better real life value vs fantasy value?

    • Dan A

@Jesse: Yahoo has Leonard listed as 4th overall. He is a trip dub threat every game, and can effect every stat category. II bet his fantasy GM isn’t going to give him up for anyone other than a top 5 guy, or a few top 15 guys. I know he isn’t flashy like Steph, or stand alone like AD, but he is the straight dope. If you can get him cheap(ish), do it, and if you have him, don’t sell for anything other than an offer you can’t refuse. Just my opinion, but I’m not alone on an island with that.

16 team league here. who is worth owning: Shane Larkin or E’Twaun Moore? I need assists and steal very badly and Larkin can give more, but Moore will have more playing time for the time being. help. much appreciated.

    • Dan A

      Dan A says:

@patrickindo: I would prefer Moore, I think. Larkin has the ability to dime in double digits, but A) his minutes are very unpredictable, and B) the cats on his squad have to sink the damn basket in order for him to get the assist.

    Playoffs start Mar14

Drop blake griffin and tyler zeller for the following?
    Patrick Patterson
    Luis Scola
    Hollis Thompson
    Mareese Speights

@Tyler: Hmm. Unfortunately, none of these dudes are exactly game changers. I’d take PatPat or Speights for Griffen, if you’re not in a keeper league, or if you weren’t going to keep him to begin with. I’d hold Tyler for now, as the others aren’t exactly much better/more consistent.
      Good luck!

@Dan A: How bout Jon Leuer?

@Tyler: fudge. Sorry for the late reply. Stay away from Leuer.

  6. Evans says:
    (link)

Was first in my H2H category league. Unfortunately, then I lost Bledose to a season ending injury and now Tyreke Evans. I currently have a squad of Elfrid Payton, Mudiay, Kemba Walker, Harden, Will Barton, Carmelo, Joe Johnson, Tobias Harris, D. Favors, Deandre Jordan, Nikola Jokic, Myles Turner, and the injured T. Evans. Who should I drop Evans for? I was thinking between Jamal Crawford, D. Booker, N. Cole, and Jeff Green. But not sure maybe I can go big too. Help!!

@Evans: I’d take green, now that Gasol is out. It depends on what bigs are available, but I gather I’d still recommend green. Crawford is a point getter, but not much else.
