I’m back y’all! It’s gonna be a stunted article, as the season started Tuesday, and I’m writing this on Thursday evening to submit, so please, just be happy for this small sample of what’s to come. Think of it as dessert before dinner. Then more… dessert?

Ok: I have been contacted by a few of you out there , already stressing about your squad (you know who you are, don’t look around the class!) It’s been a few games. Please try to “chill”, as the kids are saying these days. Adopt your Macaulay Culkin stance in the Michael Jackson video, as a baaad mutha…

First and foremost, I council patience. Don’t tinker too much with your squad in the first 3 days, nobody has any idea what’s what in the world of fantasy, too small a slice thus far.  But since I am contractually obligated to come up with something, consider the following as guys to consider, considering what I just asked you to consider:

BUY:

Giannis Antetokoumpo SG SF

It’s a long shot, but this is the first article, so quit yer eye rolling. It’s the beginning of the season, so you never know, his fantasy owner may have been discouraged that he isn’t starting,(he still could, but nothing is a lock in Buck country) or that he had a very pedestrian start so far, so could make for a buy low opportunity for you, as his athletic gifts are worth a shot offering a later middle round guy for him, no?

Ed Davis PF, C

What do we always preach here at Razzball?  Besides don’t trust the Man… With injury comes opportunity, and in this case it’s Julius Randle. Or defensive incompetence, in the case of Carlos Boozer. Whatever reason you feel is more responsible, the end result is clear: more minutes for Eddie D. Davis posted solid numbers last game, 14/9/3/2/2, his second solid performance since the injury, and with Randle done for the season, Ed is a legit add. He flourished enough to be the piece (beyond Jose Calderon’s expiring contract) in the Raps/Grizz trade for Rudy Gay, but then sat on the bench behind Mark Gasol and Zack Randolph, killing his fantasy value. A defence first mentality, who should produce in those sexy rim protection stats. If you had Randle, drop him for Ed stat!

Shane Larkin PG

I get it. You had to take Kevin Durant at 7th pick overall, leaving a number of PGs on the board, then you couldn’t pass on a big with your second pick, and now you have a derth at the point. Larkin is the man for now in Gotham, as Jose Calderon is out for the next few weeks at least, so Shane will be a cheap source for swipes and dimes. Like my wife’s grammy said when meeting me: “Meh, he’s not the worst.”

Garrett Temple PG, SG

Another example of a flier due to injury, Temple got the start, and will continue for a the short term, as Bradley Beal and Glen Rice Jr. are out. He got decent boards for a SG with a line of 6/7/2/1/0 with 2 3pts last game. Just something to consider. It’s early, people, there’s not going to be a ton of guys out there, calm yo Tats!

Mirza Teletovic SF, PF

He’s only 41% owned in yahoo, so there’s a shot you get him for free. But he has looked great thus far, he got 20/6/1/0/2 with 4 3pts, and a shooting a fantastic 8 of 11. He will get burn at both the 3 and the 4, especially with Brook Lopez out for now. He is totally exceeding his ADP, so perhaps use his ADP position in trade negotiations.

Brandon Wright PF, C

If you’re covered in your scoring, you probably have a bit of decrease in shooting percentage. Wright can help you with FG%, boards, steals and blocks, and is only 9% owned in Yahoo. He got 14/3/1/1/2 in 20 minutes last game, and got 6 boards in his first game, so don’t raise your Spockian (or Rockian?) eyebrow at me, Mister!

SELL:

I don’t really feel comfortable telling you to sell anyone 2 games into an 82 game season. It’s like Mom and Dad are fighting, and they asking me to pick a side. Awkward, because it’s clearly Dad. If I have to choose:

Russell Westbrook PG

Only because he’s injured, out up to 8 weeks. If you’re trading him, don’t settle for anything less than a top 20 player, and because I have to put someone on the sell list. But no other way to put it, it sucks.

Samuel Dalembert C

If you had the misfortune of taking him late for big man stats, he was benched for the entire second half last game against the Cavs. Ugly, I would cut him loose.

That’s all I got, kids, Happy Halloween!

Are Mason Plumlee or KCP worth dropping for anyone on the buy list? (I already have the Greek Freak)

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@fields: I would say no, Pope has not yet played up to his potential, but he played 41 minutes, just his shot wasn’t dropping. I was surprised how little Plumlee played last game, Teletovic even played a little C, but I would wager it had to do with foul trouble.

  2. Frank White says:
    (link)

Sup Dan.. Same question as the guy above about dropping mason for a guy above. also I lost Westbrook and grabbed Wroten n dropped Jameer hoping that’s a better move but when I was drafting I was also glancing at razzball’s top 200 and in the 7th round I grabbed Kevin Martin cause he was before all these guys like Parker, Dragic, etc… Now when I read his Yahoo notes it says he’s gonna be a 6th man and he’s not worth holding onto. Do you agree?? Should I be looking elsewhere??

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@Frank White: If you want to trade Dragic, be sure to get his value. He was sat in an absolute slaughtering of the Lakers. It’s a testament to his value to the team that he was pulled the moment the game looked to be in hand, to protect him from injury. In 2 games, he’s 18/5/2/1/0, and last year he hit over 40% from 3. If you can trade him for an assist heavy dude like Rubio, I guess try for that.
      See above for Plumlee.
Losing Wesbrook sucks, brah. Just pop your collar and have another Redbull Vodka. Cause if you try to trade him now, You’ll get rinsed. He could be out up to a third of the season (4-8 weeks) so it’s up to you to see if you can get something for him that’s worth giving him up for. I would say no, try to make it into the playoffs, and he’ll slay it for you there. But yeah, drag.

      • Frank White says:
        (link)

I don’t have dragic I was saying I could’ve gotten him or Parker instead of Martin and now I hear Martin will be a 6th man.. Are those stats u put up for what u think Martin it’s gonna do or dragic?? I was just trying to make a point cause Martin’s notes say he’s droppable.. lol.. read again above if it made sense.. lol

      • Dan A

        Dan A. says:
        (link)

@Dan A.: Hmm. I got that wrong, sorry. Martin is just coming off an injury, he won’t stay on the bench too long, IMO, he’s just being eased in. If he comes off the bench and still gets 28+ minutes, I wouldn’t worry, he’s a shooter. for the next week or so, I’d keep an eye on him. Good grab in Wroten, BTW. Just watch for MCW coming back, it’ll eat into his production.

        • Frank White says:

          Thanks Man

    Buy Low time!

    In a 10 team H2H 10cat

Would you deal Rondo for Westbrook?

With doubledoubles being a cat, tough to deal Rondo…

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@Don Majkowski: I wouldn’t, unless you’re convinced you’ll make the playoffs with Russell riding your fantasy bench for 4-8 weeks, in which case i would do it. Maybe wait a few days to see a more accurate timeline…

  4. Yokev_o says:

Should I grab him and drop one of my guys?
    Bledsoe

    Hayward
    Cousins
    M.Gasol
    Ibaka

    Lin
    Nelson
    Beverly

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@Ed: P Bev is injured, he’s be the only guy I’d drop, and I’m nervous about how bad Lin has been to start, but I wouldn’t pull the plug on him just yet. I know Slim is relatively high on Beverly, so take that into consideration. Additionally, it seems counterproductive to have both Giannis and Larry Sanders, But that’s just me.

  6. Yokev_o says:

Kevin Martin was dropped in my 12 teamer drop kanter or Devin Harris for him my team this far:

    Batum
    Favors
    Mason plum
    Ibaka
    Wiggins
    Trey Burke
    Bogut
    Ariza
And the two mentioned up top
Just wanna hear your input before I pull the trigger!

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@Yokev_o: Kanter’s been pretty bad to start, while Harris has been… well, better than Kanter. When Felton comes back, you should see Devan lose some minutes, and therefore production. Martin is coming off an ankle sprain, so I don’t know exactly what to expect from him, but more than 20 minutes a game and 12/2/2/1/0 and 1 3pt.
So Kanter would be my recommendation.

  7. Philzilla says:
    (link)

Would you trade Monta Ellis for RWB?

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@Philzilla: Hey Dood. My over-taxed brain is in weekend mode, I can’t make out the acronym for the life of me. I keep thinking Robyn Wright Penn, but with a B. Loves me some party chick from Forrest Gump, but that’s no excuse. Sorry, please tell me who you’re talking about.
If you mean Rubio, it depends on how your team is constructed. Rick’s dimes have been ok, but not the high level we have come to expect, and his turnovers have been awful, basically making you punt the category. Could be just starting out, or maybe the loss of Love is going to affect the floor spreading, and by extension, the spaniard’s dimes. He has never been a scorer, unlike Monta, so take him only if you are laden with shooters/scorers.
I would stick with Monta for now, and maybe try nabbing a Tony Wroten off the wire.

@KD Owner: Ahhh. Ok. That’s interesting.
If you’re in a keeper league, Yes, fo sho!
If it’s a redraft, I would wait to see what the time line is. Out 4-6 weeks? I could stomach that. 6-8 weeks? A third of the season on the pine is hard. If you’re set with solid producing guards, it’s a good deal, strictly in terms of a list player for a b list player.

  8. Wen says:
    (link)

Hi Dan, would you drop J.J. Redick for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope?

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@Wen: That’s a toughie. Both have underachieved in the first game, but that really doesn’t mean anything.
I would say yes, just for the opportunity/upside Caldwell-Pope has. Redick will have great games and duds like this, and there are other options in L.A.
      Hope it works out.

  9. rapnation says:

@rapnation: I would caution against dropping Adams, high in him. Thompson or Dieng both upgrades on Olynyk, just no 3s, good luck!

  10. hamtime says:
    (link)

    1. would you drop chalmers for elfrid in a 16 man league
    2. would you accept gallinari for wiggins?
    3. hawes, wright, or demarre?

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@hamtime: 1. Payton has started slow, I wouldn’t. Check for Wroten, although unlikely he’s there in a 16. Shved, KCP also options over Elfrid at this time, IMO. Also, when Oladipo comes back, Elfrid won’t be as valuable, obviously.
2.No, only because Gallinari is reportedly on a minute restriction, capped at 20, due to the injury, and while Wiggins will also have plenty of growing pains, he has mad upside, and defensive stat contribution.
3.Def not Carroll. Hawes has the pedigree, but both bigs he plays behind, DeAndre and Griffin, are durable, and will play the lion’s share, so for the athletic upside, particularly in FG%, and better chance on blocks, go with B. Wright.

      • hamtime says:
        (link)

@Dan A.: Thanks Dan. Appreciate the advise as always

  11. Lasandro says:
    (link)

Great that you’re back mate!! Straight to it: 8 teamer, 14 cat. Not been happy with giannis’ lack of playing time and needing a scoring multi cat guy. Perry Jones, oj mayo, t jones, KCP, Pierce or taj? If jones can get similar numbers to his breakout (more like 18pts per in Russ’ and KD’s absence) he’d prob be my guy..

Or I could just hold giannis. But playing jut over 20min won’t cut it for me in this shallow league

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@Lasandro: True that. Perry is the best scoring option now, I think, so he’s a decent flier, but I don’t know about expecting multi cat production from him. I love KCP, he got maad minutes, which should translate into more stats. Terrance Jones may be more rounded, from an overall prodution angle, and he should get better than what he’s shown in 2 games.
I understand the frustration with Giannis. I have real difficulty understanding Coach Kidd’s style, but hopefully Coach settles into a rotation, and minutes are more defined.
Personally, IF you can manage it, I would wait a week or two to see. Hopefully your other guys are producing enough to carry you through his stunted production.

    • Lasandro says:
      (link)

@Dan A: thanks mate! Thing is, I’m stacked with pgs and f/c types so I need a dude who can score in the teens with a three and give me some brds too. My bigs, a la millsap and serge, aren’t big scorers and boarders. Same goes with my Ty, Rubio, MCW and Lowry. JB advised I go with T Jones easily. j Johnson is on the wire also and had a real solid looking opener. Still t jones over him?

      • Dan A

        Dan A. says:
        (link)

@Lasandro: I think Kyle will score, just fyi, and Millsap should as well, at least better than so far. With Kyle, he had an off shooting night, but he should be in the high teens consistently, if I’m not mistaken.
Joe johnson is a very good scoring pick up. He should be consistently good with Brook out, no Pierce or Livingston. That said, Perry Jones dropped 31/7/3/0/1 with 3 3pts against a very good Clippers team. Not that he will be at that level for the season, but for the next 4 weeks or so, he will have a green light. T. Jones will score less, but have more boards with a few 3s.
Follow your heart, young man, but I’d rank my personal order of acquisition as follows: P Jones, T. Jones, Joe Johnson, KCP. do with that what you will.

        • Lasandro says:
          (link)

@Dan A.: cheers man! Perry’s off the wire now and I think Joe Smoove is my guy – three straight solid outings, despite t jones’ good line today too. Thanks for the advice and great having you an your columns back

    Monroe
    West
    Alffalo

I’m in panic mode with only 4 days in!! Besides my injuries I got Alphabet playing nothing cause Mayo Totally took his job or they got too many other options. Kevin Martin is gonna be a bust as a 6th Man and When Brook Lopez comes back Mason Plumlee will be no more then a waiver.. Do I seriously already have to look elsewhere already for these guys? If Monroe don’t start then my season is over before it started.. Oh then Dragic gives me a line of 10/3/1.. I knew I should’ve went by the Yahoo draft ratings instead of Razzball’s cause every player I picked like Razzball ranked them, I got guys after them off the draft board blowing them out the water.. IDK

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@Frank White: I understand, it’s crazy frustrating. But it’s such a small sample size, I wouldn’t give up on Giannis Or Martin yet. Kevin is being eased back in from injury. And Mason is doing well right now, don’t worry about something that hasn’t happened yet (not to mention, Lopez is brittle as a mofo). And dude, you’re writing into Razzball complaining about Razzball rankings, insinuating that our rankings are all off. How am I supposed to respond to that? You takes yo chances, son! Nobody can predict with absolute certainty. Also, it’s a looooong 23 week season. Martin may under-perform for a few weeks, but don’t drop him now, and then bitch about him shooting the lights out in 5 weeks. Dragic is ranked high everywhere. Do what you gotta do, but don’t over-react. IT”S 3 DAYS INTO THE DAMN SEASON! Injuries happen to everyone, that has nothing to do with rankings. My advice? your draft is pretty good. You could try to make trades, but don’t drop any of those cats for waiver pick ups.

      • Frank White says:

I didn’t mean it that way budding on razzball’s rankings.. it came off wrong like texts do.. my bad if it was an insult.. I’m just frustrated seeing guys way under him starting and I’m reading way into Yahoo notes which scare me off.. my bad brotha!! I over analyze sometimes and freak out.. Your a good dude and I’m always grateful for ask your help.. Hey the past 2 years I win a championship and got 2nd place and I couldn’t have done it without razzball..

              (link)

@Frank White: Bledsoe is a piece, you may want to expand it, add Plumlee and ask for one of his good bigs back.

  13. Lawson says:
    (link)

Hi there! In my 16 team 9 cat league I have players that worry me like Marcus Morris (competition for the job), Matt Barnes (performance so far) and Bojan Bogdanovic (same reason as Barnes).
The rest of the team is: Conley, Holiday, Payton, Batum, LeBron, Dray Green, T. Jones, Favors, Sanders, Ed Davis.
I dropped Fournier because I considered that Bogdanovic had better chance to play decent minutes, however this does not guarantee better stats… Marcus Morris had a great and a not so good game and Gerald Green and Pj Tucker, even the rookie which name I do not remember right now will take minutes from him.
The best options in the waiver wire are: Caron Butler, H. Thompson, Copeland, Fournier, Devin Harris, Len, Telfair, Wes Johnson, Exum, Aminu, J. Lamb, PJ Tucker, O´Quinn, Motiejunas, Muhammad, Hood.
The options I like the most are Butler, Fournier, Lamb or PJ Tucker ( when the rotation looks a bit more clear…)
Any thoughts? Thanks a lot !

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@Lawson: The rook is Tyler Ennis, btw. Fournier was dope in his second game, he may be the one to ride while Oladipo is the phantom of the opera. I like O’Quinn a lot while Frye is out, and Lamb and Devan should get burn due to injury, though I’m slightly less high on them. Tough choice.
I think I would stay Fournier for now, though. It’s just, like, my opinion, man.

Porter’s playing well tonight, but he’s only getting so much burn because Pierce was ejected. Think he’s worth a pickup in case this leads to more minutes, or will he be back in the high teens?

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@Steve Stevenson: I don’t really see much by way of production from Porter that will be dependable. He coluld go off for 22 one game, 6 the next. if you’re a gambling man, you could do worse, I guess, but I would gather there are better options. Wolters? T. jones? P Jones?

  16. Jon says:

    Hey Dan,

Super deep 20-tm league. 8-cat. You advise holding on to Austin Rivers given that only oft-injured Gordon is in front of him?

Also: do you think Malcolm Thomas could have some low-end value in this deep of a league? Only oft-injured Mbah a Mute in front of him as backup to Noel. I basically feel like taking a lottery ticket in the Sixers front court could lead to low-end value. Thomas had 9 and 8 tonight in limited minutes.

    What do you think? Thanks!

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@Jon: Given the depth of your league, I would say Yes to Malcolm, “meh” to Rivers. He has not been really impactful, and even in a 20 teamer, there will always be guys ready to step up if the guy ahead goes down. that said, if you’re that deep down the depth chart, it’s kinda beyond where I usually rank guys.
Is it a fun league? sounds like it could be a blast, and really test your knowledge. Let me know how it goes.

      • Jon says:
        (link)

@Dan A.: thanks! What about Tarik black vs Thomas? Black could be thrust into big mins if Dwight (already knee injury) goes down; black or Thomas?

  17. Nice article Dan – hopefully you can help. 8-cat , 12-team roto and just lost Westbrook. Is Brandon knight a sell-high or is he a beast? Thinking of trading him and Jabari or perry or a forward for Cp3. Is that realistic or even good?

F: Blake, dirk, Jabari, perry jones, draymond green, copeland, Tristan Thompson,
    C – horford, Noel, wright

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@Matthole: JB is very high on Knight. I’m just worried about how everything will shake out there. So far, he’s a beast, that is undeniable. I don’t think he has what it takes to be consistent at that level, so if you can get a great piece, like CP3, I would. And Perry will only be good so long as the big 2 are out, remember.

      • @Dan A.: what are your thoughts on my team? Any cats you think I need to trade for? Look balanced? Any droppables?

        Thx

        • Dan A

          Dan A. says:
          (link)

@Matthole: I don’t know what’s available on the wire, but I would consider Stauskas not worth carrying this early in his career. Chalmers is also expendable, although he is producing off the bench so far, so keep an eye on him, and drop/trade when when necesary. D Green will still produce, but his minutes will be significantly reduced when David Lee returns.
Blocks may be a little weak, but don’t over-trade for one category.
Is turnovers the category missing from the standard 9 cat? That is to say, what are your categories?
All in all, a solid squad.
Guy who aren’t producing so far, that I’m still high on: Jonas Valanciunas (hope I’m right, he never really came around last year, maybe I’m man-crushing on him a little too much to be objective) you could get him for a buy low price i think. Just sayin.

@jrh: Those are all good end of bench guys. Keep an eye on KJ, he got 3 blocks last game in like 15 min.
I’m not cool enough to know who the Muppet is (you make me feel like Dr Evil: “Im coool, I’m Hip…. taka taka taka taka”), so that hamstrings my advice, but on a per minute basis, Wright is pure gold. rouble is, he won’t likely get more than 20-25, unless Tyson goes down.

Let me know who you mean by Muppet, there sparky!

@jrh: Henson…Muppet Ha! that is funny. John has under-performed this season thus far, i’d stay away for now.

Just so you can get a full look at my team in a h2h points league:

Front Court: Paul Pierce, Lamarcus Aldridge, Kelly Olynyk, Rudy Gay, Josh McRoberts, Jared Sullinger and Andre Drummond

Back Court: John Wall, DeMar Derozan, JR Smith, Jeff Teague, Brandon Knight and Jarrett Jack.

Which trade is better for me (if there is one):
    1) Wall and Drummond for Lillard and Love
    2) Wall and Aldridge for Lillard and Love
    3) Wall and Drummond for Bledsoe and Love
    4) Wall and Aldridge for Bledsoe and Love?

      @Nikko Respeto: I would say: 2. W+A for L+L.
Dealing Drummond will kill your blocks.

@Nikko Respeto: just reread this, responded on my phone, and the screen cut off the part where you said you were in a points league. If it’s points only, I would go 1) W+D for L+L

Sup Dan.. I got 3 guys out anD I was thinking of trading Westbrook if I can get someone worth it. This guy has
    Bryant
    Rondo
    Howard
    Wesley Mathews
    Jimmy Butler
Do you think I should ask for Kobe, Howard or Rondo??

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:

      @Frank White: Hey bro,
I guess if you have to (no bench, you gotta, no question) but it sucks because you’re dealing from a weak position. I have Kobe, but I worry about durability, and you need dependability at the moment, so he’s out. Rondo seems like the best shot at getting your assists back, but Butler had a rainbow line last game, his first back from preseason injury. Dwight is cool, but I doubt he’ll do him for Westbrook straight up.
So, wish list order? Howard, Butler, Rondo, Mathews, Kobe? But it’s a shot in the dark. Good luck!

        (link)

he said he’ll do butler.. You sure that’s a good idea after looking at my team?? Would YOU do it??

@Dan A.: @Frank White: if you’re able to ride the next 4 weeks and be in the hunt, Westbrook will be a force, trying to keep the thunder in the playoff hunt, IMO. But if you think you’ll go 2-7 over the next 4 weeks, you gotta pull the trigger. Also, the longer you hold him, the more valuable he becomes, as less downtime…

@Frank White: did you win your first week?

          • Frank White says:
            (link)

No I went 2-7 and that’s my total score. No wins and losses. This week he’s got almost 10 more guys then me and he’s killing it right now. He’s got a solid team, that’s why I’m asking him to trade. I thought on paper my team looked better but he has a ton of sg/sf and sf/pf’s which hit all CAT’s. He’s the guy I was gonna trade with. His team is
            Curry
            Lin
            Jamal Crawford
            Kobe
            Rondo
            Wesley Mathews
            Butler
            Kidd-Giltrist
            Tobias Harris
            Teletovic
            Ginoboli
            Pekovic
            Howard
            Marieff Morris
He’s thinking about Butler unless you see a trade where I can either get 2 guys or package Westbrook for a couple of his guys. Any Advice after looking at our teams?? Thanks buddy!!

    Alffalo
    Antetokounmpo
    Darren Collison

I just got offered Pau Gasol and Bledsoe for Westbrook or Ariza for Bledsoe. Do you like any of them??

@Frank White: Hey Frank. Glad to see that Martin is playing better for you.

Sorry, do you have Bledsoe? Ariza for Bledsoe?

      • Frank White says:
        (link)

No My team is above.. I have Westbrook and I got offered 2 trades. Either Pau Gasol and Bledsoe for Westbrook or Ariza for Westbrook.. Do you like any of them?? I lost 2-7 first week and I’m losing 2-7 this week if that matters but West has been out too

I never put Westbrook in my lineup above by accident and Thanks for telling me to hang tight to Martin

              @Frank White: I see.
Well, I like Gasol and Bledsoe for Westbrook. It’s a good offer. He gets the best player, but takes the risk that he’s out of it by the time Russ plays. Westbrook just got out of surgery on his hand a few days ago, so 5-8 weeks would be the timeline. I would take the deal, Gasol is playing very well.
The next question is who you drop to make room for Bled. I would say Afflalo is the odd man out at the moment. You will likely notice a downtick in Wroten’s numbers when MCW comes back, probably next week sometime, so keep a close eye on him.

Actually I already dropped alphabet and have been streaming his position. I picked up Courtney Lee for a couple days. Oh also tonight who should I start, Dragic or Alfallo or Courtney Lee.. I know you’ll say Dragic but him n Ellis have been stinking it up and both have no 3’s.. I need 3’s, ass, blocks n steals

@Frank White: Ha! you’re right, I would say Dragic. If you just ain’t feelin Goran, then Courtney, as Aflalo has sucked the ballbag lately.
