You’ve heard it elsewhere but hear it again here, Kevin Martin is now on the Oklahoma City Thunder and James Harden and his beard are now with the Houston Rockets. Also in the trade, Jeremy Lamb goes to OKC and Cole Aldrich plus other guys head over to Houston. Owners (or prospective owners) of Harden are the biggest winners, as he now has a starting job and should easily see 35 MPG. I projected him at .484 fg/.845 ft/1.4 3pt/19.8 pts/4.6 rbd/4.4 ast/1.2 stl/0.2 blk/2.4 tov because I was expecting an increase in playing time anyway, but you could probably bump those a little more if you want.

I had concerns with Kevin Martin because his numbers have been in decline over recent years and he is a bit of an injury risk. While the body hardiness doesn’t change, I think we can expect a bit of a bounce. He gets a new environment surrounded by great talent, plus a coach he doesn’t (yet) hate. Unfortunately, Lamb also goes with him, and that is not good news. He remains second fiddle to Martin while also being on a talent rich team with no expectation of increased playing time (as he may have gotten in Houston if they shipped Martin mid-season). He’s still a late round gamble, but now your hand is a Jack and a 2 instead of a 9 and a 2 (I would have used a Craps reference, but no one really knows how that game works or if it even really exists).

I mentioned Aldrich because he is going to kill the value for rookie Donatas Motiejunas. If anyone had their eye on DonMot in deeper leagues, you can probably pass, although keepers and especially dynasty leagues should hold on. Tomorrow is only a day away (and 2013-2014 is about 365 days away).

  1. Thrilla says:

Yeah, kinda sucks about Lamb but I think he finds a solid role on that team, maybe like a Danny Green role last year with upside.

I just drafted in a 12-team standard H2H Yahoo! league and was hoping to get your thoughts on the squad…

    PG John Wall
    SG Tyreke Evans
    G Damian Lillard
    SF Shawn Marion
    PF Kevin Love
    F Pau Gasol
    C Greg Monroe
    C Roy Hibbert
    Util Zach Randolph
    Util Lou Williams

    B Jarret Jack
    B Ricky Rubio
    B Lamar Odom
    B Brandon Roy

Drop any of my bench guys for Mullens, Budinger?

    I appreciate ya.

    • ChrisV

      ChrisV says:

@Thrilla, Rubio and Wall are both out, so you may want to consider picking up another (P)G.

    • Pavel says:

@Thrilla, There are probably better pickups than jack. Also, Lamar should not be on your roster. I’m in a bigger league (16×15) and Lamar wasn’t even on my radar then…drop him. Also, youre really set on bigger guys. Randolph/Hibbert/Monroe/Love…that’s overkill on rebounds. However, except for Hibbert, none of them really get blocks. So that’s bad for you. Trade Love+Monroe (or Randolph) for a top pg/sg/sf (Shawn Marion is not going to help you as a starting sf). Go for Westbrook+Rudy Gay that would be a great trade for you all things considered. Wade+Pierce, something like that.

  2. Pavel says:

My most important league just finished their draft. As per the advice from this site, I used the spreading out the money way in this auction draft. Here is my team:

    Josh Smith(Atl – SF,PF)$51
    Goran Dragic(Pho – PG)$32
    Nicolas Batum(Por – SG,SF)$30
    Tim Duncan(SA – PF,C)$15
    Greg Monroe(Det – C)$28
    Raymond Felton(NY – PG,SG)$14
    Glen Davis(Orl – PF,C)$6
    Lou Williams(Atl – PG,SG)$9
    George Hill(Ind – PG,SG)$8
    Devin Harris(Atl – PG)$1
    Gustavo Ayon(Orl – PF,C)$2
    Landry Fields(Tor – SG,SF)$1
    Jae Crowder(Dal – SF,PF)$1
    Amir Johnson(Tor – PF,C)$1
    Kevin Seraphin(Was – PF,C)$1

    What do you think?

    • Pavel says:

@Pavel, This was a 16 team league with standard cats thats h2h btw

    • ChrisV

      ChrisV says:

@Pavel, Jae Crowder may prove to be a great value at a dollar. I would be willing to drop Seraphin if someone on waivers suddenly became desirable.

      • Pavel says:

@ChrisV, For sure. He is my designated drop if I see someone come up (though this is a deep league, so it will be hard). How about any trades you see? I’m weak in points and assists. my big men seem to be solid though. What do you think?

        • Richie says:

@Pavel, I’d drop Amir Johnson before Seraphin. Nene has his plantar issue and when Nene doesn’t play, Seraphin will most likely start. When Seraphin get’s PT he is more than serviceable.

  3. will says:

Hey Chris, thanks for the input on my roster before. I ended up picking up Price and James Johnson for Shved and Seraphin (price for short term production and johnson cause he’s versatile). If you had to choose between these four, who would you say the two best to hold are?

Tristan Thompson, James Johnson, Chandler Parsons, Kosta Koufos? I’m leaning to Thompson for sure, but can’t decide on the second one.

    • ChrisV

      ChrisV says:

      @will, TT and Chandler.

  4. Sawx10 says:

Just drafted in my 24 team league. Big have a higher value as rebounds earn more pout and we do minus pints for missed shots. I drafted in the 15th position. What do you think?

    1 A Bynum
    2 K humphries
    3 K Lowry
    4 C Parsons
    5 G Vasquez
    6 E Davis
    7 J Jerebko
    8 J J Redick
    9 M Morris
    10 K Marshall

    • ChrisV

      ChrisV says:

@Sawx10, 24 team league? Geez. Seems solid, I mean, is there even a waiver wire in your league? With 240 players off the board, I think you did well.

      • Sawx10 says:

There is a waver wire but it is pretty useless and any injury usually ends your season. My strategy in this league is to just load my bench with upside and hope at least one guy outperforms his immediate projections.

  5. Zebo says:

What is wrong with Seraphin? Time to abandon ship with Manu? Manu is not looking good, with back and foot issues already. Drop Manu for Seraphin? Both are likely bench players for me. I fear that once Seraphin comes back it may be more difficult to bid for him on the waiver, while Manu may be in and out of the lineup quite frequently this year.

    • ChrisV

      ChrisV says:

@Zebo, Seraphin is 3rd on the depth chart and even as a #2 is unlikely to produce 10/10 numbers. I mean, he’s okay, but I’m not going to marry my team to him.

  6. WuMan says:

    9-cat 14 team H2H. Punt-FT% team with D-Ho
    Dwight Howard
    Blake Griffin
    Kyle Lowry
    Klay Thompson
    Kenneth Faried
    Jeremy Lin
    Michael Beasley
    Andrei Kirilenko
    Jonas Valanciunas
    Omer Asik

I think I’m over kill in reb/blocks and can use some 3s/Stls to win more cats. Tony Allen, Ariza, Kirk Hinrich and Bradley Beal are still available. Who should I drop and pick up?

    • ChrisV

      ChrisV says:

@WuMan, before I went and dropped anyone, I would see if you could make a trade. Valanciunas has some pre-season hype, for example.

      • WuMan says:

Thanks Chris, I will give it a shot.

  7. Tony says:

    18 teams KEEPER LEAGUE… h2h fpts
    pts = 1
    rebs = 1.7
    asts =3
    treys = 4
    stls = 4.4
    blks = 6.5

    Here’s my team:
    G-Monta Ellis $40 Keeper
    G-Paul George $22 Keeper
    G- James Harden $52
    F-Paul Millsap $31 Keeper
    F-Chris Bosh $49
    F- J. Crowder $10
    C- Javale McGee $27
    Utl- DJ Augustine$10

    Reserves/Bench: Shump$9, booker $9, Meyers Leonard $5, AleC Burks $3, and Ish Smith $1.

Just scouted the waiver wire and do you think any of these guys can replace someone, and who?

bellini, vince carter, wayne ellington, Aj Price, Thabo S, Selby, Amir Johnson, james Jones, carl landry, speights, camby, Festus, Gooden, Koufos, fab melo….

We start 8, have 3 reserves we can sub in and out during the week so 11 of my 13 guys PLAY. Right now with shump out and guys like Booker hurting i’m kinda handcuffed… Burks probably not gonna play much? same with ISH! and DJ is behind Hill….

At first Glance im thinking Landry should be rostered? THOUGHTS? THANKS….

    • ChrisV

      ChrisV says:

@Tony, I might drop Burks, especially since he helps you in none of the good categories

      • Tony says:

@ChrisV, any of the guys i listed worth dropping him… I’m probably going to drop ISH smith, i thought he’d be jameer’s backup but it looks like e’twan moore or however you spell his disfunctional first name is going to be the backup, leaving ish…. nada.

        • ChrisV

          ChrisV says:

@Tony, I hate to recommend Camby, but he will help you with rebounds and blocks and is decent for assists.

  8. Purewater says:

Can I get your thoughts on my squad? Had to autodraft and I ranked using your top 100 rankings…ended up very big man heavy:

    PG Ellis
    SG Ariza
    G Stuckey
    SF Odom
    PF Pau Gasol
    F Al Jefferson
    C Monroe
    C Randolph
    U Bass
    U Brook Lopez
    Bench Kaman
    Bench Wall
    Bench Royce White

    12 team H2H

    • ChrisV

      ChrisV says:

@Purewater, yeah, it is big man heavy. You can blame my rankings. I would look to move a big man to see if you can get a guard. Randolph has some name recognition, as does Odom.

  9. Moez says:

Another good read, as of late you guys have been rocking! I’m here daily.

so hey, HARDEN! amaazing game BUT it was just one… call me lil nuttttty but I like Batum Lil more….. yet if im wrong I can admit it..time will tell if harden can keep it up.. Pistons have Monroe but who else? lakers might be losing but batum looked pretty damn good vs some serious comp.. yet,huh.. it’s looking pretty damn good for the harden side! last night was a great game! linn even looked decent and I didnt think that would happen… HMM!

    keep up the great reads!!!!

    • ChrisV

      ChrisV says:

@Moez, I think I’d still take Harden over Batum, but I don’t think it’s a question whether or not Batum steps it up to the next level this season: he will.
