…But it’s not like Tony Snell doesn’t deserve it!

Long time readers will know that for the past year-and-a-half I’ve been a big Snell fan, and he’s finally flourishing in huge minutes with a 22/2/1/3/0 line hitting 9-11 FG, 4-6 FT, and all with no TO.  The anti-LeBron!  Poor ol’ king James didn’t meet a turnover at the Chicago hotel continental breakfast he didn’t like, going 31/5/4/0/0 with 8 giveaways.  Snell was D-ing up BronBron all game, and ended up with a +29 to LeBron’s -27!  Bron was like, “Ohhhhh what’s that Snell?!”  Tony has been on fire the past 4 games, hitting 28-41 including 15-25 from deep.  And he flashed the full bag of tricks on the Cavs bag of bones slamming a couple early, hitting a floater late, sandwiched with some Kyle Korver-esque 3PT shooting.  I don’t think there’s much we can do about it though in 10 or 12ers with Jimmy Butler probably back after the break, Kirk Hinrich still there to fill some empty minutes, and Mike Dunleavy side-cocking some treys.  But in deeper leagues or dynasties, I think Snell could really turn into something and I have for a long while now.  Here’s what else went down in our final first half game of the NBA season:

Derrick Rose Woooo, another point on the board in the 30-Point Challenge!  12-24 FG 30/4/7 and was getting MVP chants from the patient Bulls fans.  Jay Cutler is like, “why don’t they stay patient for me?!”

Pau Gasol Such a beast and one of the first half’s biggest resurgences.  18/10/6/1/1 hitting 6-16 including a trey and all 5 freebies.  Ending on a high note!

Aaron Brooks – Rainbow flirt!  8/3/2/3/1 with no TO hitting a couple of treys.  Shot only 3-12, but a nice little usable line after a dreadful 4-game spell for deep leaguers.

Joakim Noah After 3-straight with single-digit boards and 6 total AST, a nice first-half finale for 10/15/7/0/1.  Only 6-10 from the stripe, but that side spin usually spits out more rimjobs than… Yeah we’ll just end that there.

Tristan Thompson Got the spot start for the pirate Kevin Love for 10/8/1/0/0 making all 5 of his shots dunks.  Hey, at least if you streamed him he didn’t kill your FT!

Timofey Mozgov Ya know, for all our Mozzy Bear jabs and how filled with stuffing I thought he was, looked really good.  13/11/0/0/1, hit 5-6, the jumper has confidence, and he got a few ticky tack personals racking up 5 fouls in 26 minutes or else it might’ve been better.  Only 3-6 at the FT line, but he’s a solid 70-75% guy there.

J.R. Smith Pulled a Brooks clone with his rainbow flirt!  8/4/4/3/1 in 31 minutes, and when he’s not jacking up treys he’s a little lost.  I mean, Mozgov seemed to find more confident shots!  But Smith inching close to two swipes a game has been impressive.

Well, that’ll do it for our first half of the NBA season, a little bit of a 1-game shortened post, but stretching out to talk about James Jones seemed a little frivolous…  Enjoy the All-Star Break Razzball Nation, and I’ll be back next Thursday!

    2 Questions JB

    1. Rank in the order of who you would have —
    a. Jordan Hill
    b. Kelly Olynk
    c. Spencer Hawes

    2. I am currently holding on to Reggie Jackson, you think he will be traded before the deadline?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Joe: 1. I’d go Hill, Olynyk Hawes. 2. Nah, I mean you never know, but the Thunder still are in good position to make a deep run I don’t see why they would unless floored by an offer

  2. Sam says:
    (link)

Hey mate, what do ya think of a beal and markieff for giannis trade? Is alphabet gonna keep these numbers up 2nd half?
    Thanks man!

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Sam: Beal is certainly a little scary. I’d lean yes, I’d take Giannis if needing the D stats!

  3. Blue says:
    (link)

I’m looking to trade Markieff for Gobert. Is that a good move in a 14-team H2H 9-cat league? I’m looking at the upside for blocks and boards and the playoff sked, but at the expense of Pts and Stls.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Blue: Eeeesh, I mean the Kanter deal maybe never happens and maybe he cools off. I’d have to know for sure Kanter is gone

      • Blue says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: is there anyone else reasonable to target? Whiteside? Thanks!

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Blue: Ohhh Whiteside I think I would do. Gets some time to rest that ankle and was still playing good to finish out the irst half

  4. Drez says:
    (link)

I’m bummed about Jon Stewart leaving too. I was thinking John Fugelsang could be a good replacement, or even Chelsea Handler if they decide to go with a woman (not sure how politically savvy she is, though). Maybe Craig Ferguson?

Anywhoo, back to the meat and potatoes. Would you sell Shabazz Muhammad in a 16 team dynasty for Mitch McGary and a mid 2nd round pick? I probably wouldn’t in any other circumstance, but we can keep rooks in the D-league for a 2nd year as long as we don’t bring them up. With this deal, I can keep McGary stashed for another season, and have the 2nd rounder to stash for two more. With Shabazz, I’d have to bring him up next season, but I don’t really have any room for him (team is pretty stacked).

Should I hold out and try to sell Shabazz later this season instead? Seems like I could probably get more if the Wolves move Martin, and Muhammad’s value is low right now anyway.

    Thanks again.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Drez: Handler could be interesting… I dunno man, it’s huge shoes to fill!

Yeah I don’t mind selling Shabazz a little low there for the picks and to add more depth, but I think he should be able to bring a little more back, I don’t see McGary turning into anything too special

      Any time!

    12 Team 9 Cat H2H

Got Offered his Rubio for my Middleton

    PG Westbrook, Knight
    SG Dragic, Middleton, Ellington
    SF Kawhi, Covington, T Jones
    PF Ibaka, Dirk, Faried
    C Millsap, Gobert, Nurkic

I’m 1 game back from 1st place. Really good at pts/boards/steals/blocks.
I win 3’s and assists about half the time. If i nab rubio i can bank on winning assists pretty often i think but my TO will be higher %’s lower… and that’s assuming Middleton keeps up what he’s doing which i have no idea if he will.

    What do you think?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Mike: Whoa, yeah I like Middleton and all but def taking Rubio!

  7. dudelsmack says:

Hey JB, long time reader here – keep it up! Hoping to get your advice for the second half of the season. I’m currently in 3rd in a 14 team 8 CAT H2H.
P.S. Just today I traded DJ Augustin for Hassan Whiteside – thoughts on the trade given my team?

    Anthony Davis
    Al Horford
    Paul Millsap
    Jimmy Butler
    Draymond Green
    Donatas Motiejunas
    Deron Williams
    Taj Gibson
    Wayne Ellington
    Hassan Whiteside

I’m clearly punting threes and assists, while dominating boards FG and blocks and wining steaks most weeks and points half the time. But I’m worried about points and steals. Any thoughts for improvements/trade ideas?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@dudelsmack: Thanks so much for reading man!

Whoa yeah nice move! Even though it does hurt G depth. It’s good Brow insurance, that’s for sure.

So Pts and steals should be needs, I think mostly the point which luckily is fairly easy to stream. I think Gibson can go for streaming. Doesn’t hit any stats you don’t have an overflow of. And since TO aren’t a stat, you can stream heavily for scoring either every day or as much as you can every week if limitied moves. Hope that helps!

I know it’s not Nba related but just to show you how DEEPPPPP PITCHING IS!!!
This was a 12 team mock draft. (I wish I had this team bro) What’s JB think?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Bye Felicia: Haha I know pitching is nuts, my top 100 I’m going to try and get close to done this weekend is gonna be mad hard.

Still think Pujols is going too high. Like the rest of the O though, maybe a tad high for Arenado. Carrasco and Cole I both like, and I was #1 on Ventura last yr. I still haven’t done many mocks but I think I like the team you posted before over this one

  9. Bye Felicia says:
    (link)

Someone dropped Melo, would you use a #7 waiver claim and drop Eric Gordon. I have Jru coming back so he’s the only drop I have. Melo is acting like he might play, then he acts like he’s not going to play. I don’t know why he would play. Why not just say “I’m done” because my team sucks! Is it worth the gamble?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Bye Felicia: Ehhhh, I’m not a huge Gordon fan I think that’s worth the risk but would wait until the last possible moment. Maybe you get another week of Melo

  10. Dante Green says:
    (link)

Jeez where did Snell’s stats came from! LOL. JB with the tradeline just around the corner, does colly being injured make it hard for Sac to trade him? As a colly owner I’m worried as F, and in my league nobody wants him now that he’s injured! You never know what the next update about might be, Jesus.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Dante Green: They came from my blind faith like Christmas cheer powering Santa’s sleigh in Elf!

It might hurt Colly, but sounds like he’ll be back right after the break. Hopefully he has some big games to sell high!

      • Dante Green says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: damn JB, teague and wall’s owners rejected my parsons+mcw offer for those two! How about try it to Rubio? MCW+Parsons for him? Am I giving away too much? Or try MCW for Rubio straight up? Might be able to pull it off this time!

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Dante Green: Damn, sucks man! I might try MCW straight up first, very very very unlikely it’s taken, but push come to shove I’d probably so MCW+Parsons for him needing dat PG

          • Dante Green says:
            (link)

@JB Gilpin: The owner said he doesnt care about asts anymore so he’s fine parting with Rubio in exchange for someone who could boost his pts. I’m also looking for a player who could help boost my fg, blks and stls, maybe I could trade my Dirk(or Parsons) and MCW for his Rubio and Favors?

            • JB Gilpin

              JB Gilpin says:
              (link)

@Dante Green: Sure yeah love both of those for ya! I like Dirk over Parsons, so I would try the Parsons one first

  11. RicoSuave says:
    (link)

    Great work JB!

12-team H2H points league… would you trade K. Durant for Stephen Curry? Durant has been getting a bunch of little injuries and I’ve read articles saying that his feet are bothering him, etc.
    what do you think?
    thanks

    • Dante Green says:
      (link)

@RicoSuave: dude I asked JB the same thing the other day! Man KD’s foot is just f-ed… JB told me if I could swap KD with Harden that’d be fine but even that he would think twice of doing so he advised me to just hold and keep the faith up. LOL

      • RicoSuave says:
        (link)

@Dante Green: Thanks man! appreciate your input…
My problem is that I lost Kemba Walker and Rondo, so my PG is pretty weak I’ve been streaming but there’s nothing reliable on the wire…

        • Dante Green says:
          (link)

@RicoSuave: yea that’s tough… Let’s see what JB has to say, for sure it’s going to be helpful as always! Good luck to your team brotha!

          • JB Gilpin

            JB Gilpin says:
            (link)

@RicoSuave: Yeah that’s a great question especially giving needs… I’m leaning, just BARELY leaning to take Curry to help with assists. I don’t think I’d do that if not a dire PG need though. Who knows, maybe offer first KD+your last big man for Curry+theier last PG

            @Dante Green:

            • RicoSuave says:

              @JB Gilpin: thanks guys!

I just got offered CP3 and Markief Morris for my Klay Thompson and Draymond Green… I don’t like it as much because of playoff schedule…
              What do you think?
              Thanks again

                JB Gilpin says:
                (link)

@RicoSuave: Whoa, I actually like that a lot. I think it’s a solid value to get CP3 in that if you need dimes and can afford losing the 3s

  12. Connor says:
    (link)

What up man! Taking the all star break to look around at my team and evaluate for the second half. 10 team H2H 10 cat league with FT made as the 10th cat.
PG- Lillard, Rubio, Jrue, DJ Augustin
    SG- Harden, Danny Green
    SF- Kawhi, Batum
    PF- Faried
C- Horford, Big Al, Drummond, Whiteside
Anywhere you think I should look to improve? I have been trying to trade Drummond but haven’t gotten anything. This site is the best you’re awesome man!

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Connor: Not much man, what’s good?! Wow with Harden, AST are def locked up with good PG. Add Batum to that. Wish Faried was consistent… But I like your bigs and %s are great. Harden is such a beast in FT made leagues… Really only TO can hurt and all your bigs are non-TO guys so I don’t see any issues, agree Drummond is probably the most expendable high price asset. We try, thanks man!

  13. Abulldogs says:

Can you rank Brewer Iggy and PitPat ROS in 14 team H2H league?

    Thank you

@Abulldogs: Good one, all fairly close, I’d go Brewer, Pitpat Iggy

  14. TheMuppetManiac says:

I can use a few more 3’s or blocks. Would you rather have Snell or Len?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@TheMuppetManiac: Probably Len, he needs fewer minutes t get stats and when all the Bulls are healthy dunno about Snell this yr

  15. Larry says:
    (link)

Would you rather own: Galloway, Payton, Mo Williams, PBev, Calderon, or Paul George for playoff weeks 22-24?
My Team: Rondo, Dragic, Knight, Ariza, KD, Draymond, Millsap, Favors, Whiteside, and Mo Williams. good standing right now so looking at playoff chances, 12 team 9-cat H2H

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Larry: I think I’d go Payton, looks like a few extra dimes would help. Although tough to drop Mo if that’s your predicament, I think he has a great stretch sans-Kemba

  16. Real_Cigs says:
    (link)

Fair to offer my Markieff Morris for his Korver? See any other players who could help my team or improve playoff scheduling? He’s punting FT%, 3’s, and TO’s. I’m punting Rebounds and TO’s.

    8 Team / 9 Cat H2H /

This would bolster my FG%, FT%, and 3’s, but would cost me a bit in points and about half a steal. I’d be trying to sell him on Markieff shooting decent %’s, scoring more points the Korver, a few more rebounds, and a little more steals. It wouldn’t be an upgrade for me playoff schedule wise since I would have 3 Hawks and would have to sit a player during week 1, making a 3/3/3 playoff for whoever I have.

We are first and 2nd in the league after this week, about a game or 2 apart. I don’t want to meet him in the playoffs, but would feel a lot better about meeting him in the championship since he has Lebron and Irving with that 2 game championship week.

    My Team:

    PG: Teague, Knight, Dragic, Rubio

SG: Hayward, W. Matthews, Greak Freek

    SF: Durant, Parsons,

    PF: Ibaka, Millsap, Kieff Morris,

    C: Whiteside

    His Team:

    PG: Irving, Collison, Holiday*,

    SG: Korver, Butler,

    SF: Lebron, Jeff Green,

    PF: Monroe, Blake Griffin*

    C: Vucevic, Gortat, Hibbert, Gobert

    *Injured

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Real_Cigs: Yeah I think I would take Korver, I don’t think it hurts scoring too much. Makes you dominant in %s and 3s

  17. Dirk's Digglers says:
    (link)

14 team H2H 9 cat (afg% instead of fg% and FTM instead of FT%) currently in first and pretty much have first locked up for playoffs … categories I am comparatively strong in and most weeks a lock to win are afg%, rebounds and blocks and cats I am strong in and looking to consolidate are assists, free throws and steals while points and 3s I can win some weeks (particularly by steaming for 3s when a matchup dictates) while turnovers are normally a loss.

I have just completed a trade getting Rubio, Brewer and MBarnes for JJack, Deron and McLemore thinking this consolidates assists and steals for me (I see Rubio as a better option for me ROS than either JJack or DWilliams and can trust his role more while Barnes is an upgrade over McLemore and Brewer gives me some more depth). Did I do the right thing?

G – Curry, Rubio, Hayward, Smart
    F – Davis, #Occupy, Freak, ProfPlum
    C – Gobert, JVal
Res – Dieng, Barnes, Brewer, Galloway, JamesJohnson, Thornton (streamer)

BroLo and Kanter trades would open up some more minutes for my bigs and hoping the Dieng train picks up steam again.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Dirk’s Digglers: Yesssssss! Great move, so much risk with those PG you gave up and McLemore is low end… Yup lots of big upside possible, let’s get Gobert starting!

  18. Frank White says:
    (link)

Wusup JB… It’s not really a huge deal cause these guys aren’t keepers they’re just one waiver wire spot on my team but I Have Tristan Thompson right now cause at the time I needed a big guy. Anyway for next week should I keep him or do you like Ed Davis?? Or neither?? Thanks

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

@Frank White: What’s good man? Probably neither, not huge on Thompson and Hill is close to back. Would lean Davis of the 2 though
