Baby got, back again for another installment of under-whelming players from the Association who have, by definition, underperformed. As usual, our criteria is a player who is not only delivering subpar results but also has a reasonable path to improved play. Depending on your team construction, these players should be pursued at a discount with the hope being that when the player rights the ship and performs closer to expectations, you will reap the benefits.
We’re staying in the Western Conference for another week with one of the most storied franchises in NBA history.
Now let me welcome everybody to the Wild, Wild West. A state that’s untouchable like Eliot Ness.
Currently, Schroder is sitting way outside the top 100 in standard leagues behind averages of: 13.6 pts, 3.8rebs, 4.2 assists, 1.1 steals while shooting 41.6% and 79% from the field and line respectively. Some may have suspected reasonable regression playing alongside such high usage titans in the forms of Lebron and AD, however, that does not explain the poor shooting from the field which is where we focus our sights on the gritty German.
As a sixth man off the bench for the Thunder last season, Schroder enjoyed shooting averages of 47% from the field and 84% from the line while sinking 1.9 treys (down to 1 three per contest this season). The touches are down slightly but still sit at 12.2 per game coupled with a healthy allotment of mins, north of 30 per game. There is plenty of opportunities for Schroder to bring his scoring and percentages up.
Over the past week, Schroder was dismal averaging 33% from the field with ZERO threes along with 7.7 points, 1.7 rebounds, 2 assists, and .7 steals. He will not be this bad for much longer and offers far more upside than his current slump suggests. It’s for this reason that you take your thumb and forefinger, give your chin a stroke, and contemplate a few buy-low offers out to the GM in your league with Schroder stock.
He will not be the savior to your fantasy team, even when he’s firing on all cylinders. However, he can be an important contributor to your backcourt who won’t hurt you anywhere once he brings those percentages up which I’m confident he will.
Best of luck out there and hit me up in the comments section with any questions or opinions.
Peace.
