REL Basketball1Another big week for the rich up top in the RCL, as we stare down our perch on an NYC tower and wag our fingers at the dissidents below.  Shame, you underachievers, shame!  Hah, just kidding of course, as the league is still wide open for playoff runs and postseason upsets.  We need some New York Giants to break up the undefeated New England Patriots out here!  Well, for now the Falcons will have to do…

Nothing too crazy on the wire this week, but we had a few decent signings as we move into our final third of the regular season.  Here’s how week fourteen in the 2016-17 REL went down, and how we’re looking heading into week fifteen:

Not gonna lie, my first ever 9-0 victory in the REL (I think only my second 9-0 ever – it’s tough to do in TO leagues) feels pretty damned good.  Through a lot of rosterbation, I mean roster manipulation, I was able to sit all the guys I needed to in order to swing TO and have the perfect week.  Weeks like this is why you can’t look at overall league stats, I benched Westbrook 3 of his 4 games this week!  Imagine how good he’d be if he averaged, like, 1.5 TO a game…

All the cats looked pretty much set by mid-week last week, except the final battle for BLK and TO.  Stupid Rudy Gobert and his 6 blocks on Friday threatened the run, but Dirk Nowitzki coming up swatty yesterday got me 4 blocks, and I won the cat by each of those 4 swats.  Pretty fun win!

…and now, comes the rough part.  I play #3 Scurry this week, as my schedule tightens up as I fight for a bye week.  52-10-1 the last 7 weeks has been a hell of a ride, but it may come crashing down as I get #4 Slim the following week, and wrap up against #2 Yappers.  It’s been a lucky run, I actually had TOO many players, and had to cut a useful-only-in-REL Dante Cunningham to activate KCP for the week.  I just gotta hope to stay healthy through the final push and into the playoffs.

Thankfully this week, I’ve got 4 games from my most pivotal team in OKC, so hopefully I can hold off Scurry.  Good luck to all this week, and if you’re a non-REL member or out of the running, hopefully you’re rooting for your’s truly to get a gold jersey finally!

2 Yappers 88-37-1 Waiver Adds Past Week:
FAAB Remaining: $26 Joe Harris Bkn – SG $0
First things first. The 8-1 victory last week was closer than it seemed. First we won both ratios and turnovers (needed to bench mason Plumlee last night to secure that category). And as far as margins of victory we had: turnovers 2, threes 2, and blocks 2 (the loss being in steals).

So let’s see. We have completed a tough stretch of the schedule and are in second second place, 1.5 games behind JB. Looking at the schedule, we have the next three matchups against teams in the bottom half of the standings. Next is a matchup against a good team with terrible injury misfortune with Jokic. And finally an end of season showdown with JB. Quite happy with where we sit, but still room to improve.

So who receives special accolades for last week. Marc Gasol for sure with .569 FG%, .938 FT%, 11 threes, and 7 blocks. In other words he was a key contributor in ratios and two of the very close categories. But for unsung players I think we will go with Spencer Dinwiddie, a FAAB pickup of a few weeks back. At the time I griped about overpaying for him by about $16 FAAB, and at one time he was on my possible drop list. But last week he averaged almost 29 minutes per game with key contributions in both ratios and 11.5 points per game. Good grief he even contributed two blocks in one game. He was good for what Yahoo says is the 93rd ranked player for the week. So now he is off the possible drop list and moved to the probable keep list as a $1 point guard. A very valuable commodity considering the cost of PG in this league.

But I will grumble about Kris Humphries and my stupid acquisition of him last week. A waste of $2 FAAB. At least my pickup of Joe Harris was a freebie (having been way outbid for two players I actually liked but being in FAAB rationing mode for now). Pros: youngish player with upside, schedule for next three weeks allows me to keep an injured player, should receive semi regular minutes when he returns, not a waste of money should someone I prefer come along. Cons: he is injured you idiot, how did your stashes of Lance Stephenson and Festus Ezeli work out, do you really need ..another.. thragnoff?

Well we failed our mission and now find ourselves 3 games out of a playoff spot while playing the 5th place team with 5 weeks left in the regular season. The interesting part is that the 6th place team Martyball is 1 week ahead of us in the schedule so schedule is pretty much a non factor until we get to the last week of the season. We will play the team that is currently tied with us while Marty ball picks up the 13th placed team. It’s going to be a real barn burner down the stretch.

Our team has disappointed recently and we made some poor roster gambles coming into this season that did no help our cause this year. We have had internal discussions around our likelihood of making the playoffs and the success we can expect if we do reach. We are at a point in the season that we need to fully commit one direction or another. We cannot decide which way to go though.

After a tough matchup this week that decision may be made for us however. Good luck all!

This week, I won 6-2 over Hardenoutherr4apimp. I re-picked up Darrell Arthur, after dropping him a few weeks ago. I was frustrated with his injuries and competition for minutes in Denver, but realized that the guys I picked up (Wesley Johnson and Salah Mejri) weren’t as strong keeper options. He’s playing more recently too so my $6 bid was just high enough to claim him. I also picked up Jerryd Bayless, dropping Shaun Livingston. Although Bayless is out for the year, I think he has potential to be a solid $1 keeper next season when his wrist is fully healed.

A big 4-5 loss to 7th place Niko-Cola were I was competitive in pts rebs for a large chunk of the week and stls would have been close if you take out Wade’s 14 stl week was a big surprise for me but fits in to how I thought my team would start to be more competitive towards the end of the season. I was expecting to be crushed though because I had Mudiay and Russell out all week with EMBIIIIIIID getting the philly safety gloves till that majestic game against the Rockets, just look at that block on the Beard (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPJPC8LXvYI). It was interesting to see how dramatically my % and to’s improved without Mudiay and Russell in the line up as I went 49/84. I’ve been continuing my season long debate on those two plus Wiggins, my $99 dollar core three and while I still remain hopefully with Wiggins especially after his top 75 week and the fact it looks like he’s settling into his usual great end of the season run, Russell and especially Mudiay are squarely on the outside looking in after this week were it looked like my team was better without them and I could use there salary space to probably land two of the guards in this deep draft class to replace them.

The main developments on my team this week was adding Diamond Stone (who lol) to pair with Brice Johnson as my Clipper frontcourt stash’s right now. The Melo Clipper rumors with the Clippers not wanting to move any of there Big 3 has me thinking both or one of them might be moved in a deal so figured it couldn’t hurt, especially when again I was going to be out bid on bigger targets, but that’s okay because Donatas put up a solid week and continues to trend up with Davis a shutdown candidate so a Phoenix might be rising out of that $58 pile of ash. Lin’s continued injury season has kept Isiah Whitehead in the rotation and he’s starting to look like things are clicking with a solid week so hope that continues, MKG continues to give me great bigman stats on the wing with a 55/75 week to go with 11/7 and 1.8 blks he does exactly what you don’t want out of a standard wing but he fits my teams build perfectly since he just improves upon my big men stats when there getting burn. It helped show the clear strengths of my team this week thanks to a young center busting out in ZUUUUUUUBACCC. 14/10 and 1.5 blk week for Zubac with 100% from the line on 3 attempts a game in 27 minutes. I am so glad I didn’t give up on him after his preseason riding the pine and made sure to not miss him in the draft. I can easily see him putting up Jonas stats (at almost half the REL cost), potentially better even since he seems to have more hunger on the court then Jonas has, probably because Zubac grew up a massive Laker fan wanting to make the NBA to play for the team and everyone on the team seems to like him while Jonas gets crapped on by Casey all the time and seems to have resigned himself to watching Derozan and Lowry take all the shots when he isn’t doing a million useless pump fakes.

Me and No Love No Glove would have had a close match if we played last week and given the upward trend of my team right now if Embiid gets some more games I think I might be able to sneak out a win against a top 10 team. Watch out Scurry and Slim I don’t think it’s looking like I won’t be a cake walk when I play you guys in week 17/18.
