Finally with over a week under our belt, we’ve got some trends to start talkin’ about!  On today’s show, Slim & I discuss the Jerami Grant trade, if this early-season run by DeMar DeRozan is sustainable, figuring out what to do with the Brooklyn Mess, and reaction to a few injuries.  We then conclude the show with previewing tonight’s games by making our 30-point challenge picks, and wrap the week at the movies.

In a 8 person 9 cat h2h. Who do u like the most irrespective of needs out of: Marcus Morris, jaylen brown, Tim Frazier, Delly, dirk. Can only keep 2.

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Justin: In an 8er you should probably favor current production over season long value since the waiver wire is always so good. With that said, Marcus and DellaV are probably the top 2 for season long value but Frazier is the better PG right now and Brown is a really hot add after yesterday but both sound like won’t have their starting job for more than a few weeks. Dirk will be ok but in an 8er those DNPs loom much larger. I’m going with Marcus over Jaylen and Frazier over DellaV and all 4 over Dirk in an 8er.

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@Justin: @Slim: Whoa, yeah that’s selling out Dirk a little bit. Agree, it’s all about short term. Agree Marcus and Frazier are the tops there. But I think you stay with Dirk, per-game he’s still phenomenal – yes stats so far are weird bc he had a great game then a bad one – but he’d be my guy, unless indeed there was another string of DNPs coming in the short term

        • Slim

          Slim says:
          (link)

@JB Gilpin: Yeah I’m done with Dirk. This Achilies could very well last all year and I’d rather my injured players were seeing a pediatrician than a geriatrician.

            JB Gilpin says:
            (link)

@Justin: @Slim: Obviously now I am too. Didn’t think it was a big deal, and he played big minutes almost all of last year, I think without injuries. I dropped Dirk in an RCL with both IL filled. Marcus and Delly now

    Kemba for 30

    • Peaniece says:

Also, I traded taj and waiters for pau gasol in a 20 team league. Thoughts?

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Peaniece: Kemba @BRK. Nice pick. That one has a good chance.

I’m fine with that trade, super buy low, but if Pau has a few good ones in a row I would look to flip him for something more secure down the road.

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@Peaniece: @Slim: Kemba is a nice call. I’m good with Slim’s analysis, I like it, and like the idea of flipping him later

3-1 and Nurkic holding top 50 value through 4 games, and Jokic is outside the top 100. Come on with the FTs though Nurk, and Jokic too for that matter. And that was a pretty good 14 minutes for Jokic, but 14 minutes?!?! Hell Juancho got up to 11 minutes last night, and REL bias time, Juancho looked good, played solid defense, but no one would pass him the ball. Sad emoji. Maybe next game, at least he passed the eye test. It should be noted that that was a heck of a win for Denver. Jamal Murray though, ouch, almost 70 NBA minutes and hasn’t made a basket, 0-16.

Sabonis had a nice game last night. Although I’m guessing the extra minutes were due to garbage time.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Slim: Bizarre. Yeah I dunno. At least I don’t own Jokic anywhere and I own Nurk on a few teams, so this debate isn’t impacting me anywhere except this silly contest haha.

Sabonis had no confidence to bang threes in the normal flow. Still kinda blah there. Watched some of the Wolves game. Dunn had this one unbelievable drive. Looks great.

      • Slim

        Slim says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: It isn’t about you, it’s about those 2 and more about places like Rotoworld and Y! not realizing what a USG whore Nurkic is, or how much better defensively he is than Jokic. It isn’t Slim 3 – JB 1. It is just Nurkic 3 – Jokic 1. Considering your ranks compared to others I would say that when Nurk wins we both win.

I think you’re talking about Dunn’s only make. Did squeeze that thing in there amongst the trees. I think he’s a better finisher at the rim than we’ve seen so far, but he needs a runner in the lane and he needs to feel comfortable with a long jumper. At least his issues are things that he can practice and get better at. His quickness is something else entirely. He held Mudiay in check offensively real well. 4-15, 3:6 ast:TO. To me he looks just as good as PBev defensively.

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Slim: Awwww, Slim I appreciate it 🙂 WE ALL WIN!

Yeah I honestly I didn’t look at his stat line. Surprised that was his one FGM. I just kinda did eye level and he looked good. Wow, yeah I dunno if I can dispute that too much. PBev Island to be renamed Dunn Island!

          • JG

            JG says:
            (link)

@JB Gilpin: I drafted both Jok and Nurk. And I didn’t reach for Jok in the 30s like what RW was promoting. Did get him top 50 though. Nurk around the 100 mark. Now I’m getting offers for Nurk and lowball offer for Jok. I keep countering with a package deal. If I’m trading one of them, the other will go. I’m not going to have another coach mess with my mind. I already have an “Me: Asshat Victim” scar.

  4. Threekola says:

    Random Prediction:

Before the season started, I predicted a ridiculous start for KD, as Warriors try to get him to feel comfortable and understand that this situation is nothing like what he had in Thunder by encouraging him to shoot every play.

If you guys have been watching, Curry isn’t even looking to shoot off the pick and there is no iso being run for him yet.

My prediction was that KD gets the lion’s share of shot attempts to start off the year and a few games down the road, they lose to a couple good teams, and finally fall back on their back-to-back MVP. Everyone is sleeping on Curry. The last post was “Best fantasy player: Harden or KD?”

It’s over reaction season guys, we’re veterans here! Haha. Derozan is averaging 35, Avery Bradley is averaging 8 boards. Ibaka is averaging 4. Am I trading Ibaka for Bradley cause I need rebounds? NAAAHHHHHH

It’s only a matter of time until Curry goes on a ridiculous tear and when he does, I get to say I told you so to not only my friends, but also some of you here at my home away from home, Razzball Nation.

@Threekola: I’m with ya. Curry is still gonna get his, they’re just making KD feel comfortable and dominant. they did that in preseason too. Especially last night. Durant was not in a passive mood haha.

I’m with ya! I still like my Curry #1 rank!

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Jake: Short answer, it was a blowout and DellaV was in foul trouble. I’m not overreacting to this one. Long answer, dang Brogdon looks good, but I think Kidd still wants Della in there to close out games.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Jake: Well last night was a blowout, and he’s been 29+ all other nights. Brogdon has had back to back nice games though… I would for a few more before cutting

@jdubs: Yup he did, nice call!

  11. Big Red says:
    (link)

Who would you rather have, Myles Turner or Aaron Gordon? Can they sustain their current level of play season long? And what do you think about Winslows and LaVines roles based on the first few games?

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Big Red: I’ll go Myles, he should win FG%, FT%, Pts, Boards, blocks, and TOs and Gordon winning steals, assists and 3s, the last 2 by not a whole lot.

Both those 2 are locked and loaded for season long value. I don’t think we see too much Dunn next to Rubio, kinda hurts the spacing too much. Winslow is set, probably a few more minutes at PF once Richardson is back.

      • Big Red says:
        (link)

@Slim: Thanks Slim. I have Gordon in one league and have been looking at flipping him for Turner but Gordon’s steals have had me hesitant, been looking so good so far. This league also factor in fouls, which doesn’t help Myles’ case.

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Slim: @Big Red: Totally agree, Turner by a good bit for me. Love those blocks with the %s.

If Rubio gets traded, boost up LaVine a smidge. Not like Rubio is a scorer, but I think Rubio makes more crazy interior passes, while Dunn will slightly keep it more on perimeter. Yeah Winslow looks solid. hurray for my rank!

Hmmmm interesting, yeah PF leagues are tough since they’re rare and I don’t think of em much haha. But prob would still do the deal

  12. Lasandro says:
    (link)

Give me that effing Clownfoot for 30!! No Lin, so they’ll HAVE to feed it in to him or he’lol attempt 15 3’s. And he’ll play less than 28min. Asshat’s like “Brook if I see you make another jump hook instead of taking a fadeaway three, I’m benching your crippled ass!!”

Where’s the love for Tobias btw? Dude is outta control. And Avery must’ve listened to the last pod where @slim jokes about his brds being an aberration. “How you like dem apples, Slim?” Hell, those 10 brds aren’t even a season high!

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Lasandro: Clownfoot it is! Hahaha I bet Asshat is preaching it that way! Yeah Tobias has been awesome, I’ve noticed 🙂 Scoring/3s/FG% are all high, probably a little regression, rest is about what we expected!

    • Lasandro says:
      (link)

@JB Gilpin: Just traded Clownfoot and Frazier for Kemba – WOAH! I will miss Frazier though, and I do think he’ll still get a very solid role either at SG or off the bench when Jrue returns. But, yeah 🙂

I’m low on big man stats but it’s not like I was getting much in that dept from a 3pt shooting BLo. Go grab Taj or Booker, in my 14 cat roto? I just dropped Taj to pick up Jrue, but now that I have a free roster space following this trade, I was looking at him. His blks and Obrds have been NICE. I’m leaning him.. Are the Booker steals legit tho? He’s kinda doin what Thad was doin at that PF position in BK.

Btw, tell @Slim that my big man stats are coming from none other than Avery Bradley. Since you guys pointing out that his 8 brds per are an aberration, he’s notched 10 and 11 brds in his last two. Now look, he ain’t gonna stick at 8 per. However, his energy is absolutely off the roof and he’s getting played quite a bit in BOS. I can easily see around 6 brds per on the season. Yes, I compared his ascension in preseason play to that of Jimmy’s a few seasons back. Now with the added brds and assists, hell, he may actually improve in a similar fashion the way Jimmy did in his breakout year. The assists are absolutely here to stay. He’s taking more shots. And, like Jimmy, he’s a v good offensive rebounding guard, if your L takes those into account like my roto does. Love it. Jimmy is my bf, but Avery may very well be mi amor.

DRose, pass Porzingis the fkn ball!!!!

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@Lasandro: Agree, Frazier will still have a role, I just dunno if it’ll be a big enough one for a standard size league.

I don’t trust Asshat. Gimme Taj for now.

Well, Bradley getting some extra burn at the 3 now is helping, with Crowder hurt. I could see them staying kinda high for a bit.

Hahahaha I think I told Slim DRose is gonna be his public enemy #1 when Porzingis doesn’t get the rock like he should!

Stream Brogdon or Nelson for the weekend?

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Marshall: I went with Snell… I’ll go Nelson with Wilson getting zero minutes at SG, and Murray looking vastly overmatched. Doesn’t sound like Gary will be back this weekend.

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@Marshall: @Slim: Yeah Murray has started slow, and I think DellaV gets his mins back. W Chandler avail? other big add for me this morning was Jaylen Brown

        • Slim

          Slim says:
          (link)

@JB Gilpin: I like Snell for the steals over Wilson. And Wilson goes @Det, @Bos which are tough matchups for a wing while MIL is vsSac, @Dal. But Wilson is a decent stream for now.

And I’ll take 2 from Snell or Wilson over 1 from Jaylen, we’re talkin steamers here.

          • Marshall says:
            (link)

@Slim: yeah all of those guys are taken, Snell is even playing against me…
I will go with Nelson and hope Harris doesn’t come back this weekend

            • JB Gilpin

              JB Gilpin says:
              (link)

@Slim: @Marshall: Jaylen might indeed end up being a stream, see what he does Sat and might stream Sun. I trust Nelson more too

  14. Zinger says:

Going Kemba 30, since he’s on my team =]

I proposed a Hood for TJ trade, the guy countered asking for some FaaB. Since he nabbed Warren for $33 (budget is 100). I offered to give him $18 along with Hood for TJ, good deal right? I mean he wanted picks before, I think FaaB is a lot fairer.

@Bye Felica: Hah, I dunno about “criminally”, but def wish I was higher of course. I was one year too early. Was expecting Big Al to play more, and a struggle to find shots on that offense. Both have been wrong assumptions

Boston- TD Garden. They (Bostonians) still refer to it as “The Garden”. Of course Nyorkers gonna say “Yeah, Whatev” Ha!

Last week, coin messed me up on Klay vs PGeorge on 30 pt challenge. This week, either Wall or Millsap. No coin toss this time, Wall! Sapper came close during their 1st matchup but going to think he’s not going to shoot as well 55% from the field, 50% on 6+ attempts from the 3 pt line.

If Sapper gets to 30 and Wall doesn’t…2 strikes. One more and I’m quitting this challenge! LOL

    Or do I hold?

I shoot FTs well except for Howard since Leonard and DeRo have such high volume. Wish I could move him. But the “Howard market” is thin in my league despite his solid start.

        Paul, Frazier, Delly
Porter, M Barnes, DeRo, Hood, Leonard, Crowder
Howard, M Turner, Poison Goose, Adams,

Thoughts on my team? Format is 9-cat H2H with 10 teams.

PG: Westbrook, Lowry, Conley, Delly, Colly, Jrue H, TyJo
    SG/SF: Batum, Air-Gordon, DeMarre, Korver
Bigs: Millsap, Dieng, Gobert, JaMychal, RoLo

I’m really struggling with both %s and TO so far. Do you guys think these categories will remain problems for ROS? I was actually projected to finish with the 2nd-least TO before swapping RHJ for Delly, and Matty B for TyJo! I have the most right now… I’m blown away by how hard my Big 3 are turning it over right now.

Swapping a PG for an efficient big-man seems like the move to make. Probly going to try shopping Conley. His stock ticker seems to be pointing way up.

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Ryan: As long as you have Westbrook those TOs are a lost cause. You have a ton of PGs and no one can compete with your assists, bigs are looking pretty good too. I would hold, punt TOs and dominate assists. FT% should be fine although Gobert is kind of a problem, FG% is a bit of an issue and I don’t see an immediate fix. I wouldn’t worry too much about it and focus on dominating the counting stats as best you can.

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@Ryan: @Slim: Yeah FG% looks lost to me too. Maybe you get lucky a week or two, but high volume Westbrook, Conly was always bad, Batum/DeMarre too, just a lot of 3pt shooters. I’d be OK shopping Conley though, he’s had injury issues the past few years.

        • Ryan says:

@JB Gilpin: Ya know, I’m not super concerned with Westbrook’s FGs. It seems like he might shoot around 44-45% and he’s going to get nearly 10 of his points at the line anyways. I’m confident that I could balance out the volume if it was just him.

Unfortunately it’s not just him. Lowry, Batum, Carroll, and Millsap have been killing me! I didn’t want Lowry at all. I passed on him for Millsap at 19, but he was still avail at 22! I knew it would put me in a bad spot, but how could I turn down that value?

Sap and Carroll will get better tho. I’d love to send Lowry packing instead of Conley, but I doubt I’ll be able to get proper value for him while he is shooting this poorly and taking a backseat to DD on offense.

@JB Gilpin: @Slim: Thanks guys. Yeah, Gobert, Gordon, Millsap, and DeMarre have been big FT drains thus far. The last two should shoot better with time though.

I’ll work on improving my FT% and try to see if I can avoid punting TO every week. I know I can afford to lose a PG and still dominate the guard stats. Maybe I’ll try something like Conley+Gordon for LA. Or perhaps some package involving Lowry and Gobert for Giannis.

I thought I did a great job surrounding Westy/Lowry/Batum with low TO guys. But none of it matters if Westbrook is getting 6-10 TO a night smh.. My guard stats will only get stronger when Colly and Holiday return. I know I can afford to lose a PG and still dominate those categories against all but one team.

@Ryan: I don’t really disagree, but an off night from Westbrook might sink your whole week, since it’s so many shots.

Would love that Giannis deal if it’s taken! Yeah Westbrook is buggin me with the TO in REL too haha

JB!! So we had a Terrence Jones sighting last night…FINALLY. Somehow he’s still available on my wire but I know that’s not going to last too long. I’m loving his upside but a huge gamble at the same time. Would you suggest dropping the ageless one Tyson Chandler or Marcus Morris, who I’d prefer not to drop, for some Terrence??? Let me know what you think please!!!

@Doctor G: I’m sure I got to this too late, but I’d hold Marcus, he’s looking strong, Tyson is a 1 trick pony and really is just a streamer for that one cat. I’d take the gamble on TJones.

@Doctor G: @Slim: Yo! Well he’s available bc he went from barely playing, to DNP, to this haha. Who knows what they’re gonna do next?! But I agree with Slim, unless you’re anemic at REB and Tyson is a band aid there, I would make that swap

@JB Gilpin: Thanks for the reply boys!! Unfortunately I just missed out on Terrence, but all good!! There will be another. Speaking of others, do you like the long term value of Danny Green/Marcus Smart/RHJ over Tyson or Elf Payton? I know you guys were big on Elf, and hes only 22, but I’m kind of a punt assists team atm with my PGs being Conley, Linsanity, Tyreke, Dipo and Payton. I really need boards, so Tyson’s my band aid and hes getting me by, and I really need a SG who can give me 3s/Pts/Stls. Couple all that with Elf’s shaky start, I know one of those aforementioned SGs could probably make my team a little better right NOW, but at the same time I don’t want to cut Elf and sacrifice long term value for some quick dubs early in the season. What ya guys think??

@Doctor G: Damn! Yeah and Tjones is very injury prone, obviously no guarantee it lasts Defffff not Elfrid! I’m OK shopping him in AST punt, but I like him a few tiers over those guys. Team needs-wise, any of those other 3 could be over Tyson.

Would you trade frazier for bazemore?

@Jake: Yeah I’ll take Bazemore, although he got a little tougher to trade for after last night.

@Jake: @Slim: Agree. Jrue is looking closer and we’ve gotten pretty good value mikled outta Frazier to start

@Slim: I hit accept on that trade after I saw Baze’s line for the night. Had to convince the other guy not to have traders remorse LOL

Is capela still worth owning in 12ers?
Or should I drop for the likes of Leuer or Cody Zeller?

    • Slim

      Slim says:

@Tyler: The minutes are getting frustrating and D’Antoni is scared to use him in late game situations due to the FT issues. I think the minutes will go up but it isn’t something we can just assume at this point. Leuer is ok, but I don’t have faith in him game in and game out. Cody on the other hand is putting up some crazy per36 numbers and is being brought along slowly after his knee bruise. I’m loving that they signed him longterm and with Hibbert’s knee issues there’s a good chance Zeller sees his minutes go up. I like that gamble the most right now.

@Tyler: @Slim: Yeah I would probably keep Capela and hope that you’re a FT punt. If you’re not a FT punt, I’d be OK swapping to Zeller
