Ughhhhh.  Today’s podcast… Brought to you by the magic of 4G hotspots and free internet at Starbucks!  Due to internet issues at the Razzball Podcast Studio, Slim’s audio is a little funky, but as eager fans of Serial would say, “better a crappy Podcast about a deserter than no Podcast at all!”  On today’s show, we review all of the big news and notes from the first two nights of action including Anthony Davis‘s huge game, Sergio Rodriguez as a pickup, and Joel Embiid‘s debut.  It was a very sturdy debut, for sure!  We also make our 30-point challenge picks, and catch up on what we’ve been watching at the movies.

    JB!

Just scooped up Sergio, would you drop RHJ or Seth Curry for Mason Plumlee?

    Thanks!

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@JJ: I don’t get the Seth Curry thing. He’s my drop, but with that said, I’m jumping ship on the Nets. Anyone else to add?

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@JJ: @Slim: Yo! Sure, lose Curry, but be sure your roster can take his FT. I still wanna give RHJ one more game, but what a trainwreck

jb ireally hate craigs league… I dont know man….i think we are wasting our time… Randle and okafor for gasol… Both are at best borderline streamers

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Creditgrabber: Yeah that isn’t good if Marc Gasol and if your league thinks something fishy is going on then get together on the message board and get it vetoed, but I’m OK with it being a buy low for Pau Gasol. Randle did have a very good game 1 and he’s still young enough to say there’s upside there. A healthy Okafor is fine but with Embiiiid doing well he won’t get to 30 minutes again, but that’s not my job to tell them that. Wait that is my job.

      • Creditgrabber says:
        (link)

@Slim: it’s marc.. Yeah its not your job..i just wanted to know your unbias opinion… Thanks

Anyways does any chance ennis take the sg position in memphis when parsons and allen return….

        • Slim

          Slim says:
          (link)

@Creditgrabber: It’s very doubtful that he starts. Maybe 18-20 min tops when everyone is healthy.

Yeah for Marc that doesn’t sound kosher.

          • JB Gilpin

            JB Gilpin says:
            (link)

@Creditgrabber: @Slim: Understandable, I’ll be sure to reach out to Craig. I don’t think he can commish veto, but I think he can change rosters back if he needs to.

Agree, Ennis is a long shot to start, they’ll wanna play Allen at the 2 for some early D

  3. Franklin says:
    (link)

are we worried about pau? how are you guys feeling about him?

I feel like Pau is too good of a player to let a guy like Dedmond eat into his minutes, even if it is for defense. Once he gets going, Pop is gonna be forced to play him 25-30 min a night minimum. They didnt get him for nothing.

I think itll work itself out, just dont know how long itll take. You guys thinking wait it out or sell after first good game?

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Franklin: There is only 1 number that concerns me about Pau and I’m sure JB knows what it is… 36, as in years old. Yes the minutes should be better than this but I feel like Pau and Aldridge are playing the same position, PF, and Dedmon is a quality big body Center. I wouldn’t sleep on Dedmon getting minutes in the right matchup. I think Pau was overdrafted at about 50 so if you can get anything close to that back I think you did well, although I agree you probably have to wait for a good game 1st.

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@Franklin: @Slim: Remember Aldridge started really slow too. That said, as I posted in the recap this morning, his defense on Boogie was a travesty. I’m waiting it out though.

  4. Lasandro says:
    (link)

Gimme Ryno for the 30pt challenge! I, too, think that the UTA D will be too much for DLo. Will be fun watching Ryno pull the Dirk on the one who invented it #masterVSapprentice

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Lasandro: Yeah I just thought we may see 20 shots go up from D’Lo tonight with the Lakers doubtful to produce anything inside 10 feet. I like the Ryno pick, but I also think people were getting a little crazy expecting like 4 3s per game.

    • Lasandro says:
      (link)

@Slim: Nah, I don’t think that’s so far fetched. If you’re a 3pt shooter and dont jack one up when Harden kicks it out to you, you’re not doing it right. I doubt you would’ve thought that one day Steph woulda averaged over five 3’s for A SEASON. I see no way that Ryno doesn’t flirt with 3.5 makes per contest, at least. The attempts will absolutely be there. He may hit 2 on one occasion, then follow it up with 7 on another. If thinking that is crazy, then call me loco mi hermano!

Also, Parsons has been dropped in my 10 team roto (14 cat). Should I put in a claim for him and drop either Frazier (prob not), Winslow or Kieff? Or leave it be, with that kankee (kanckle + knee?) luming throughout the season?

Can’t wait for BLo to score 40 his next time out. I need to sell that boy fast – and he was my 2nd pick!!. I hate Kenny Asshat! Not as much as I hate Kenny Asshole!! (Lin I’m fine with, btw.. no cause for concern).

      • Slim

        Slim says:
        (link)

@Lasandro: Yeah at least Lin led the team in minutes. Parsons should definitely be owned but dang it I don’t really want to drop those guys. I’m torn. I’m not overly concerned about Parsons but those 3 were way too good game 1 to just drop.

2 reasons I’ll take the under of 3.5 3s, #1 health. He will not survive a 30 minutes role all season so if he gets that many 3s per game then I’ll take the under on 65 games played. #2 he’s never hit that many even in per36s, although he was close once. Still though if he plays 36 minutes then I’ll take the under on 50 games for the season. Steph took 11.2 3s per game last year and evey year the attempts go up (well it shouldn’t this year but you get what I’m saying), Anderson has never topped 9 per36 and hasn’t gone over 8 attempts per 36 since Orlando and his attempts per36 have dropped the past couple of years. Steph is a career .443 3pt shooter and has never gone under .424. Anderson is career .377 and only went over .400 once in an injury shortened 22 game season.

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Lasandro: @Slim: Nice! Yeah it was def a bold Slim call. Wish we did it a day before so I could go back to back Kawhi 🙂

Haha stupid Kenny Asshat! Def picking up Parsons. I guess Winslow is the drop? Don’t like it, but have to do it.

Yeah 3.5 might be tough. I might go 3 though! Only 2 in the first game in 34 minutes, given he did take 7… Bold call tonight, need those treys to fall!

        • Lasandro says:
          (link)

@jb gilpin: you’d rather I drop Winslow’s multi cat upside over kieff? Interesting.

          • Slim

            Slim says:
            (link)

@Lasandro: I just dont know… I purposefully didnt actually answer. Why you gotta take so many late picks that work out?

            • JB Gilpin

              JB Gilpin says:
              (link)

@Lasandro: @Slim: Hah Las’s league is tough. Always giving us Sophie’s Choices. Not like Kieff doesn’t have similar multi cat upside!

            • Lasandro says:
              (link)

@slim @jb gilpin: it’s not my fault, I swears! Some of these noobs would rather roster DRose or Korver or mudiay over the FAs currently available in our L.

Ok, I guess I’m just gonna have to try and trade a 2 for 1 to open up a roster spot. But if it doesn’t work out, then Winslow for Parsons it is. Unless he kills it his next game, then Sophie’s dilemma has nothing on me! “Las’ Choice”, written and directed by Las, starring Las. Shitty robotic sound editing by Slim & JB & Co.

  5. Marshall says:
    (link)

Are you dropping Noah for Trevor Booker, or do you think is worth waiting a few more games?

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Marshall: Yeah wait it out but I don’t have particularly high hopes. Goose played plenty of center with Holiday as their small ball guy and it was probably their most productive lineup. Booker should be OK but the trust in the Nets rotation is at an all time low.

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@Marshall: @Slim: Agree, I’m not exactly huge on either, but I would take Noah for now. Hate the Nets more than the Knicks, but both NY teams are 1-2 right now haha

  6. Banana Boat says:
    (link)

Someone dropped caroll and gary harris in my 12 teamer h2h league. My only real drops are RHJ and Noah, do I pull the trigger? Noah is the easy one but hes my fourth C in a league w two standard C spots.

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Banana Boat: Yeah I’d make those 2 moves. Noah will certainly be better but he won’t be Gary Harris better. Carroll for RHJ is an easy swap. Definitely losing some boards but Carroll is no slouch esp with some added PF minutes.

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:

@Banana Boat: @Slim: Yup agree, see comment above on NY hate haha.

  8. giantsFTW says:
    (link)

Still looking for a solid big in my H2H league. Who would you prefer out of this 3 available wire guys: Mozgov, M. Plumlee, C. Zeller? Looking for a short-mid term solution till Noel is back.

As for the 30 points challenge…the Houston-Dallas game is so tempting. Eric Gordon it is.

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@giantsFTW: Tough to justify Plumlee unless you are a FT punt. If so then hes the one. If not… Geez… Fine i’ll go Zeller. I hate Mozgov but my gut is telling me he’ll get more min than Zeller. Oh and dont forget theres now 3 M.Plumlee’s out there. Plumi? Eh, Doesnt have the same ring Morri does. But i assume everyone is refering to Mason unless otherwise stated.

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@giantsFTW: @Slim: Agree, FT punt it’s Plumlee. I might Plumlee in any format, he’s shown signs that he could maybe be 65%ish? Plummesses!? But yeah I’m assuming Mason.

        EG it is!

        • giantsFTW says:
          (link)

@JB Gilpin: Oh yeah haha i forgot they all start with M haha. I do punt ft so i guess its him for Sure. Thx guys

@giantsFTW: Hah no worries! Sounds like a plan!

  9. Dusty says:
    (link)

I think Slim is the robot with that deep voice and for the 30 point challenge, put me down for Evan Fournier.
Pistons allowed 2 over 30 against the Raps, why not another…

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Dusty: I never really thought I had a deep voice. I’ll practice my Isaac Hayes for next time. As i put more thought to what JB said about Westworld the more i think he might be on to something…

I’ll root for Fournier tonght with ya. I could use a big game out of him.

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@Dusty: @Slim: Hah well I won it the first year! Stupid Slim winning it last yr…

I have him a few spots too. 28 or 29 sounds good to me 🙂

  10. Connor says:
    (link)

I’m taking Kemba for 30! Just traded Embiid for Dennis Schroeder, good sell high? Love the pod man, keep up the awesome work!
Also, what do you think about Gary Harris ROS? Someone dropped him and I’m thinking about dropping Jamycal for him. Thanks!

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Connor: yep, especially with the new contract for Schroder. No worries about playing time anymore, right coach? RIGHT?

I’ll let JB handle the Gary Harris questions. My opinion is slightly (re:very) skewed. My answer is a lock for top 100, but top 50 aint happenin.

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@Connor: @Slim: Hah yeah I love the Schroder deal too. Nice pick on Kemba!

I can’t see a top 100 lock… I could see him finishing there, but lock is too bold for me. That said, if need is more for 3s/Pts/Stl, sure nab Harris. Reb and a block or two, JaMychal. With everything else he does too of course

  11. Foreign Affairs says:
    (link)

My 30 point challenge entry for today is Myles Turner!!!! He’s up against minute restriction Bro-lo (wtf is Kenny doing) and Booker/Scola, I can’t see either of those three standing a chance against him and his ability to hit some threes hopefully gets him over 30.

I feel like MKG in the small sample size of this game and the 7 between shoulder injuries last year is showing shades of the Kwahi from before last years breakout. Kwahi wasn’t a great shooter at all league entering, not however you can describe this https://espngrantland.files.wordpress.com/2014/10/michael-kidd-gilchrist.jpg level bad but not good. Will have to see as the season goes but if he can start knocking in some corner three’s .6 would be nice even given how he tied his career total in just 7 games last year and greater defensive stats given that he now should be breaking 30 minutes a game more often since he won’t be such a massive offensive liability (batum helps there). I can see him putting up those kind of numbers as the season goes on.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Foreign Affairs: Oh nice one! Back to back like Kawhi!

Hahahaha great image. Yeah his shot used to be mad funky in the Bobcats days. I dunno if he can quite get the steals and he isn’t the same kind of iso scorer… Maybe could be though! Still is young… It’s not the craziest comment I’ve read!

No one else is worth dropping for for Barea right?

      @Jesse:

@Jesse: Yeahhhhh I’m probably holding, unless 3s/Pts/Ast are all dead heats right now and swing cats. I might stream JJ over T Johnson in that case, as J Rich is probably going to make T Johnson a streamer anyway.

Oh OK, yeah you can readdress Saturday night, then decide on JJ then

Razzup! My team in a 12 team 9 cat is off to a slow start. But wanted to hear your thoughts on my team! Any moves I should make (scooped up Sergio tho xD)

PG: Steph, Conley, George Hill, Rodriguez, Jrue
    SG: Gary Harris
    SF: Melo, RHJ
    PF: Nurkic, T. Jones
    C: DeAndre, Embiid, Adams, Noah

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@TOPSZN: Razzup man!? Nice nab of Sergio! Well, it has been about half a week, so plenty of time 🙂 RHJ and T Jones look really expendable. Noah might be, but we’ll see tonight. Even with Steph you could use more scoring, maybe TJ Warren is still avail? Nice assists too, so just some ThrAGNOF maybe a scorer/rebounder will help and you cna stream those spots

      • TOPSZN says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: Thanks JB! I dropped Jones for TJ (TJ for TJ lol) because Jones is not getting the minutes so far. I think RHJ will get the minutes and pick up the pace, hopefully in the next week. As a Knicks fan, I also want to believe in Noah haha. But we’ll see how things go tonight! At least EMBIIIIIIIIIIIIIIID is playing so well lmao.

              (link)

@TOPSZN: Best PG on the team! 7 assists and only 22 min. If those can get up to 26-28 we might be looking at a nightly double double, as in boards/assists. Unfortunately for us I think the 22 or so minutes is probably the best thing for the Knicks so they can keep him on the floor for more games.

              • TOPSZN says:
                (link)

@Slim: That’d be so amazing! I definitely think it’s possible. He looked re-energized. Although it may be optimistic, I think he will get to 26-28 minutes once he gets his conditioning back, since he didn’t play too much in the preseason. Fingers crossed! Thanks guys for your help!

@Slim: @TOPSZN: Yeah I could see 26-28 too in a bit, he’s their best passer no question. And I don’t think honracek wants to run a team of hero ballers haha

                    (link)

@JB Gilpin: Thank God Hornacek is no Asshat haha. He’s seriously messing with my boy RHJ! Luckily you advised me to take TJ Warren, so I can’t complain too much!

Somebody proposed me a trade of Giannis and Horford for LeBron and filler, do you think that is a good trade and who should I send as my filler? This is my current team (standard 9 cat H2H, 10 teams)

    PG: Bledsoe
    SG: Dragic
    G: Rubio
    SF: LeBron
    PF: Porzingis
    F: Rob Covington
    C: Anthony Davis
    C: Gorgui Dieng
    Util: Jeremy Lin
    Util: TJ Warren
    BN: Chandler Parsons
    BN: Jonathan Simmons
    BN: Mudiay
    IL: Nerlens Noel

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@SR: Whoaaaaa, that a ridiculous offer! I’m taking Giannis over LeBron all day, plus you get Horford on top of it?! I mean if it can be anyone, Simmons! Haha. Covington works. Really a ton work, even Lin makes it an easy easy win

      • SR says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: Haha awesome! This guy really wanted LeBron and he has a bunch of good bigs so he didn’t mind giving up Horford. Also assuming I use Simmons as the filler, I wanted to pick up Sergio Rodriguez so who should I drop between Covington, Mudiay, and TJ Warren? Or should I just keep those guys?

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@SR: Whewwww, man that’s a tough one. I’m almost wondering if you should just punt 3s until Parsons is back, and lose RobCo. Actually I think I would do that, add Sergio, then put Ricky on IL when he’s likely going to hit it, drop Noel, and stream 3s/maybe add RobCo back
