If I have to pick a PG at pick 48/49 (turn of 4th/5th round) and I might not want MCW because of the ft% (plus I think he might be there at 72/73), and assuming that Rubio/Conley are gone, would you guys want Holiday or Kemba? I was thinking Kemba at first but Holiday is growing on me and even before that i was already thinking Kemba’s usage will be reduced with how much Stephenson handles the ball. Less dribbles = less passes and shots = less points and assists (but a better team in real life). Holiday also seems to have big assist potential compared to Kemba.

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@CTMN: Yup, you hit the nail on the head! Or nail on the Kemba… I dunno, but yes Stephenson will see a lot of rock and Kemba will be camping for treys. Holiday should destroy him in dimes, I def like Holiday more.

@JB Gilpin: Okay that sounds like what I was thinking, thanks. Gotta rack up those dimebags!

@CTMN: Can’t wait for dem dimebags! Two already in preseason (I think only two), being Jennings and Lin… How weird…

@JB Gilpin: Yeah Lawson almost had one tonight though, and it looks like he might be my guy in the 3rd round (well, start of the 3rd). The “Denver dispensary”!

    Guess who’s back, back again,

Felicia’s back, for the win. Hah

What’s up fellas? Quick Question: Would you go PG/PG with your 1st 2 picks? Or PG/PF/C? ORRR BEST AVAILABLE/BEST AVAILABLE? HAHAHA!! Thanks

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Bye Felicia: What up, Felic! Best avail/Best avail! Depends on your draft spot too. KD & Brow are clear 1/2 for me. Past that, hoping to land at least one of the PG (or Harden) in the first round as I have em ranked – so Curry, Wall, Westbrook. Good to see ya man!

      • Bye Felicia says:

@JB Gilpin: KD still #1 with the broken bone? I’m nervous now…

Wassup guys? Big trade question… is ibaka for my horford and korver worth it? I’m leaning towards yes and then picking up cj miles from the wire…

    • JB Gilpin

@Sio: Yup! Obviously Miles is a downgrade, but I would do it!

  5. Boom Shakalaka says:
    (link)

What do you think about his team? Half way through the mock I desided to punt 3’s. I know its only a mock but the way my league is set up I really think this team is farely obtainable…

    S.IBAKA
    AHORFORD
    Mike Conley
    RWESTBROOK
    Jrue Holiday
    Ty Lawson
    Robin Lopez
    Markieff Morris
    Jonas Valanciunas
    Tobias Harris
    Draymond Green
    Jeremy Lin

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Boom Shakalaka: That’s an unbelievable team. Westbrook fell into the 4th round?! Elite bigs, then ridiculous PG depth. Lawson in the 6th?! Yeah 3s might have to be a stream but that’s an unreal draft

  6. Scott says:
    (link)

JB, Grey on the baseball side of the house does a “what it takes to win your league ” column. And it goes like this …10 team standard 9 player league – pts-175 ave (10pts), 160 (7 pts), 150 (5 pts), same for RB, Asts……. etc. and then the same for 12 team. How about that for basketball?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

@Scott: Hmmm, I’ll put it into our think tank, that’s something Slim might be better at than me, lemme see what he thinks

    Here’s the final squad. (14 Teams) H2H 10CAts 13 Players:

    Kyle Lowry
    Blake Griffin
    Rudy Gay
    Klay Thompson
    Al Jefferson
    Kemba Walker
    Derrick Favors
    Rodney Stuckey
    Evan Turner
    Kelly Olynyk
    Wesley Johnson
    Draymond Green
    KJ McDaniels
    Injured Reserve: MCW

Here’s the question, based on a snapshot projection.. when MCW jumps back into the lineup from my IR, who should be the first to go. AND.. should I trade to strengthen the team in any way. Seems solid.. but I wanna be unstoppable!!!! lol

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Ujiri Prokhorov: Nice team! Esp. for 14 teamer. I really don’t see any holes yet… I think I’d roll with that team into the season. I’d probably drop one of either Turner or Olynyk based on how the Celtics rotations are looking when MCW is ready – but I think he’ll be good for opening night

      • Ujiri Prokhorov says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: since you’re on a roll.. Wall & R Anderson for Lowry &Favors.. Who wins here..

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Ujiri Prokhorov: Haha, whew, that’s a toughie. Obviously Wall beats Lowry, but Favors beats Anderson… I’m torn but since it’s slightly deeper, I think I’d hold off since Anderson is a bit of a risk

        • CTMN says:
          (link)

@Ujiri Prokhorov: Favors is also your best shot blocker, while you still have enough asts and 3s without Wall and Anderson.

  8. AC says:
    (link)

    Hey guys,

So my team is on the big side – 7 eligible centers and only 3 PGs. I offered a trade of Brook Lopez and Tyreke Evans for Darren Collison and Luol Deng.

If he accepts, who do you think won the trade?

    • CTMN says:
      (link)

@AC: I hate Lopez for fantasy this year, I just tjink no way a 7 foot guy with foot problems stays healthy all year long, especially after last season. Tyreke has his own problems with his knees, not being able to shoot, and being so ball dominant even with all the guards in New Orleans. Deng will probably be solid in Miami, bit of a bounce back, and Collison is decent, I don’t love him but he’s not bad. I think it’s a pretty good trade for you based on your team needs.

    • AC says:
      (link)

@AC: I was also offered Dragic and Reggie Jackson for Millsap. Which offer would you take if you were me?

      • CTMN says:
        (link)

@AC: I’d keep Millsap and take Deng offer.

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@AC: Agree, I am taking that first offer given your needs. Looks pretty even, you get a little more safety too, I dunno fi there’s a clear winner or loser. But since it helps your team, it makes you a winner! Haha 🙂

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@dan-o1: Whew, nice team! Enough PG depth to go along with your ridiculous bigs. I’m honestly not seeing any big needs, maybe one more nice PG would help, but I only say that because your boards and blocks look great. Maybe try and move Dieng if he starts hot and someone else for a PG starting slow, but I don’t think any moves need to be made right now, nice work!

@DK: DRAYMOND GREEN 166?!?!??!?! Haha unbelievable.

Really, really, really like that team. 2 awesome PG and one goodun, I think dimes are solid, Chalmers helps steals, plenty of big man stats. All around nasty team really like that one

      • DK says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: Thanks for the input. Apparently no one wants Draymond. I have to say if Yahoo doesn’t update their ranking, those who don’t fully do their homework won’t see these players. Though I did see other manager reach for players like McDaniels. The player before me took Matt Barnes, so Draymond was an easy pick.

I was thinking if I needed for 3s or steals. But seems quite decent. I know I am quite solid on the points, rebounds, assists, and blocks. Here’s to hoping Bosh will come out big!

      • DK says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: I actually wanted to grab Millsap instead of Bosh. Wasn’t sure which one would be better. Millsap’s stats would actually be more predictable. Bosh has a chance to be big!

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@DK: Yeah I like Millsap more, I’ve mentioned a few times his final month with Horford was his best and expanding into a perimeter game is a great fit for those 2. I’m higher on Millsap than anywhere else, been easily getting him 2nd round towards the end. McDaniels had a very buzzy debut with the 4 blocks then a nice line the other day. Draymond has hit a lot of cats too though.

I will trade a big for a point gaurd from the start, but besides that..

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@DanielL: Haha I know, if I had my ranks aggregated in with the Yahoo rankers, it would jack them all up!

Wall/Ibaka is an awesome start when you pick at the end. You got some aboslutely unreal value at the end – definitely helps picks 10-13 are all sleepers of mine 🙂 Plus great value on Knight.

Only wish would be if you had one more nice PG like you mention. Your assists are pretty good with two high-volume guys, but past them you’re a little iffy. All your other stats look fantastic though. If one of those late round picks just goes absolutely bonkers (I think they all will!) maybe move one for a PG if any are starting slow, I might wait until the first few games to establish a buy low/sell high since I like the value you got everyone

        • DK says:
          (link)

@JB Gilpin: Question, how has your crazy ranking do so far compared to Yahoo? Has it been paying off?

I have been in fantasy for 4 years. Frankly I haven’t been doing so well and missed all playoffs. Rookie year was learning the players so it was a mess of a draft. The last year I messed around with heavy punting, and didn’t turn out so well. So I am quite desperate to do well and get into playoffs. I generally know the how to draft, but I feel I am still missing something.

AFAIK, go for balanced approach. Grab best player available. Once you have main general stats filled, maybe find specialist or cheap multi-cats like Draymond, Barnes. I have been studying different rankings (Razz, Roto, Yahoo, ESPN, Rotowire). Yahoo ones are a mess and I have been re-ranking them through various sources like Kieff, Draymond, Jones higher etc.

Am I missing something? I really hope my 5th year would be much much better. Please help.

          • JB Gilpin

            JB Gilpin says:
            (link)

@DK: Well because mine are different doesn’t make them crazy… At least I don’t think… Yahoo and ESPN are the crazy ones! Haha.

Yup, I am all about balanced as well. How I’ve always drafted and I avoid the punt guys. Never will own Dwight.

Yeah, filtering all the news you can, and paying attention through the season are the the best assets. Those guys you mention (Markieff, DrayDray, T Jones) are being undervalued everywhere for no good reason, Jones especially makes no sense after the year he had.

Best draft advice for this year is don’t punt and get good PG depth (at least 3 in the top 6 rounds or so). Assists dry up exceeding quickly.

            • DK says:
              (link)

@JB Gilpin: Hahaha crazy its because its Razzball!!! Haha frankly is because I have never seen ranking done like this and Yahoo really messes me up. So yours is a much better view on things.

I recently did another mock draft. I simply took best available and only G and F are available. I only took on big men later. What do you think? I got 4th pick for 14 teams. Looking at it, I probably should have picked up another PG.

              1. Stephen Curry
              2. Kawhi Leonard
              3. Ty Lawson
              4. Gordon Hayward
              5. Larry Sanders
              6. Markieff Morris
              7. Omer Asik
              8. Terrence Jones
              9. Jordan Hill
              10. Draymond Green
              11. John Henson
              12. Vince Carter

                (link)

@DK: Well I sure hope it’s a better view! Haha.

I like your first 4 picks a ton. But I’m down on Asik and Sanders and think you got those guys a little early. Agree with your assessment, if any of those good PG were available there at pick 5, I think it woulda came out a lot better. Especially since you got good bigs late I like – Hill, Green (to an extent) Henson and blocks from KJ

                • DK says:
                  (link)

@JB Gilpin: Thanks for always replying. It really helps my draft assessment. It seemed like it is really fine that my first 5 players are all guard/forwards combo and no big men. So the idea of best available really applies huh? I always figure I would ran out of players for my other positions later. So if a decent PG at 5th round, then I just simply move all my picks down 1 round yah.

                    JB Gilpin says:
                    (link)

@DK: Yeah I’d say best avail through 3 rounds and I have an extra weight on Pg that high already, but past that be sure and stat addressing positions a little as I’m a balanced team type drafter.

I got offered a trade of My demar derozan and Favors for Kawhi is it a good deal or am i giving up too much. My team is low in ppg and to for the most part except for wall and thomas so kawhi might be a good fit but is favors and derozan too much for kawhi?

    • DK says:
      (link)

@mat: Personally I think you would be giving up too much. Derozan is primed for another good year and Favors *should* doing much more now that he’s playing C now.

      • mat says:
        (link)

        @DK:
Thanks i thought so too the only reason i didnt instantly decline the trade is that kawhis efficiency seemed to fit my team as well as it woulda beeen my 5/6th pick for a 2nd round pick in our league

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@mat: I’m gonna actually disagree, with it being a 10 team league, getting by far the best player in the deal I think is worth it. Sucks to lose Favors, but you have Ibaka and I love Giannis and Green to fill in blocks late (plus Kawhi will chip in), and I think you have enough scoring.

      • DK says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: Hmm when you put it like that it makes sense to have best player in a limited team settings.

  13. CTMN says:

I’m thinking I might be able to get Millsap AND Horford 24/25 (with KD #1), which I know you won’t feel bad for me to be in that position with you having them so high in your overall ranks…but if that’s what I end up with, then don’t I have to go PG/PG at 48/49? I think I might end up with some combination of Kemba/Holiday/Teague, maybe MCW. Would that be the way to go or do I take a PG at 24/25 no matter what? What do you think, JB and Slim?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@CTMN: Yeah I think you would have to, and def go G heavy after that start. Holiday and MCW would be killer there as I have both in the 30s, but they seem to be falling

    Good day sir.

I’ve been monitoring your site in drafting my team. IMO, your site is the bomb. Been playing b-ball fantasy for 3 years now & just found out about your site 3 weeks ago. What do you think of my team? Who do I need to draft or trade for to make my team better?

Our league is 9-cat 12 team Roto type. Here are my players:

    PG – RUSSEL WESTBROOK
    SG – VICTOR OLADIPO
    G – MIKE CONLEY
    SF – NICOLAS BATUM
    F – MARKIEFF MORRIS
    PF – ANDRE DRUMMOND
    C – DERRICK FAVORS
    C – JONAS VALANCIUNAS
    UTIL – BRANDON KNIGHT
    UTIL – REGGIE JACKSON

    Thanks in advance.

@bucabrera: Hello sir! And thank you do much, glad you found us! Hope to see ya all year!

Sheesh, 12 team and you got that? Nasty! Everyone you have I have top 100. I honestly think you have a balance of everything really well done, I don’t think you need to make any changes right now. Except maybe make me owner so I could win that league 🙂

  15. Boom Shakalaka says:
    (link)

T.Jones, Giannis, Markieff, Draymond, B.Knight and to a lesser Meeks… All on everyone radar but all have ADP’s that are misleading from 50-130.

Of each of these players listed how far would you have to reach until you are flirting with their ceiling thus damaging there value.

One example is T.Jones. I reallly like him as a fantasy player this year and have a feeling his FT% is going to get a nice little bump up and thats really his only flaw. Hes going anywhere from 50-Undrafted in my 10 team mocks. You guys have him in the 80’s I think.

    Thanks in advance

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Boom Shakalaka: Yup, they seem to be very variant. Right now it seems Markieff you have to reach the furthest and I have no issue with it. His role is really guaranteed. I think the same is with Knight, just worried about how many assists he can bring. Jones should be safe but did get benched a few times here and there. Draymond and Giannis are a little riskier, but their upside is so good across multi-cat that I have them ranked highly.

    Hi JB,

You said I was low on Blocks, so I just traded W Chandler to the waiver wire for Mozgov, and then McGee got hurt. Good Move? Mozgov was great the other night.

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@Pops: Yeah T-Mo played well last year, but McGee was hurt all year then Hickson tore his ACL. Hickson is gonna eventually be back too with McGee a question mark for the start of the season. All that said, totally good with adding Mozgov for Chandler, but Mozgov should have a short leash once that crowded front court gets healthy. That is, if they do!

PG: steph curry, ty lawson, rubio, kemba
    SG: giannis, danny green
    SF: korver, draymond green
    PF: markieff, henson, mcroberts
    C: al horford, henry sims

Trying to do the same thing with this league as i did in my 1st where i picked up stuckey and mcdaniels but both were drafted in this league… wire is really thin here. I guess this league reads razzball too… haha

@Sio: I’ll let JB be the one to hack your name. Since you gave away the asian part though I’m going to go with something sounding like… “sigh-O” But I imagine that isn’t close.

Team looks solid, maybe a smidge short on bigs and heavy on high end PGs. We’ll talk about it on Tuesday!

@Sio: I’m probably going to say, SEE-O, but now I’m gonna think about it so much beforehand! Tuesday indeed!

I did my 1st RCL draft last night. It was like I was drafting against myself and I’m pretty sure you aren’t going to like how it turned out. I’m ok with it. A few moves to do for sure but I think I’ll be alright. We’ll talk about it on the next podcast.

    6. Harden
    19.Millsap
    30. Lawson
    43. Kemba (Favors went 40)
    54. Faried (Noel went 51)
    67. Collison (Hayward 55, Teague 56) – Almost took Gortat but he’s so boring…
    78. Markieff – Almost took Sanders but I didn’t think Markieff would make it to pick 91.
    91. Sanders (Giannis 83, Beverley 84, Elfrid 85, Jones 86, Henson 87)
    102. Tobias (Jonas 96, Draymond 99)
    115. JHill (Asik 107, Dieng 108)
    126. Burks (Reggie 118)
    139. KJ McDaniels (JR Smith 130, Ross 132, Nelson 133, Mason 135, Stuckey 136, Carroll 138)
150.Wesley Johnson (Early season streamer special for 3s/blks)

OR the other way to put it…

    PGs. Lawson, Kemba, Collison
Wings. Harden, Tobias, Burks, KJ, Johnson
Bigs. Millsap, Faried, Markieff, Sanders, JHill

@Slim: Wow, Anteok 83! Dude, we’re getting rocked on our Giannis love in RCLs, everyone taking him! Same with Henson and TJones. Def break it down on the Pod.
