Sorry for the repost of my lineup but I had posted in last week’s Pod. 4th pick, 9cat, 12 teams, H2H

    KD
    Bledsoe
    Nerlens N
    Kemba W
    Wiggins
    Zach R
    TJones
    M Turner
    Mudiay
    J Henson
    PJ Tucker
    Koufos
    Otto P

Build is meant to punt TOs and be average at best at FG. The Mudiay pick was the mistake imo (especially considering Aaron Gordon was available and my bigs lacking rebs and stls). He is my 3rd PG but his FT% will certainly be a liability and will probably but my team’s FG% at the bottom 3rd of my league.

Thanks in advance for the analysis.

      Dj says:
      (link)

@Dj: forgot to add, i know you refer to Mudiay as possibly having an MCW type of rookie season which is fine but MCW shot 70% at the FT line. Small sample size but in 12 games playing in China, Mudiay shot 57.4% on 47 attempts (ouch!). Gonna need a lot of volume from KD+Kemba and Bledsoe to offset that.

waiting for a string of 2 good games in the preseason to trade him or pair him with Otto Porter/TJones and get back at least 1 big(since also lacking there).

@Dj: Oh damn, sorry I must’ve gone too fast! Definitely will review on next weeks pod.

Ugh yeah Mudiay is going to struggle, MCW is just the lazy cut and dry comp.

I’d certainly ask for a lot for Tjones in a deal tho! And sorry again, we’ll have your review on next pod!

@JB Gilpin: no worries! glad to just be able to have folks analyze my team. Noted and agree on TJones comment. Thanks again!

@Dj: actually just finished listening to the full podcast. i’m the same dude that posted as kw. so this is done. thanks to you and Slim for the analysis. still trying to unload either Kemba/Mudiay but if lacking 3s, it should be Mudiay. not sure if either of you looked into 3s contribution of Porter though. i know it’s preseason and he won’t average 4 a night for sure. nevertheless, will heed advice and see what i can get for either or a combination of Walker/Mudiay/Tjones for a PG and/or SG that hits 3s.

            Any advice?

            • JB Gilpin

              (link)

@Dj: Ohhhhhhhh haha yeah I didn’t think I missed any, but what we bring in analysis we lack in podcast preparedness haha. I just scrolled through.

Agree Mudiay is prob the move, but it’s tough. Hopefully he has a nuts game in preseason and gets some buzz.

Mudiay+Jones forrrrr, Teague? Maybe reach for Lowry? Once you get closer to Conley range I don’t think it’s enough back .

              • JG

                Dj says:
                (link)

@JB Gilpin: haha..well i wanted to test the waters..those I know in my league that are open to trades, unfortunately, don’t have much that fits my build. so offered Tjones and Mudiay for Danny Green+Lawson. He needs a little bit more rebounding and even .5-.7 bpg will go a long way for his team. Hopefully the “upside” and “usage” concept gets to him…LOL I figure I won’t lose too much on the blocks dept. with Green doing 1.1 per game but improve heavily on the FT and slight improvement on the assists. I’d rather this than a 2 for 1 since the FA wire is so thin with the IL slot being utilized a lot.

                • JB Gilpin

                  JB Gilpin says:
                  (link)

@Dj: Yeah I can buy that deal…. Green and Jones aren’t too different and Lawson is certainly worth his off the court risk over Mudiay

  2. TheMuppetManiac says:
    (link)

I’m in a keeper league. We keep our guys in the round they were drafted last year. I can keep 3. Which 3 should I keep?

    LaMarcus Aldridge – round 2
    Goran Dragic – round 2
    Chris Bosh – round 4
    Jimmy Butler – round 6
    Draymond Green – round 10
    Danny Green – round 10
    Terrence Jones – round 15
    Markieff Morris – round 15

Butler and Draymond seem like a lock. I’m leaning towards Bosh for my 3rd.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@TheMuppetManiac: Whew, it is nice to lock up a better guy like Bosh, but I gotta take Terrence Jones in the 15th. Gives you two 2nd round guys and a 5th rounder with huge upside, and still all your early picks

  3. 2nd overall pick in a 9cat H2H 12er (an RCL!)

    Steph Curry
    Blake Griffin
    Nikola Vucevic
    Brook Lopez
    Danny Green
    Isaiah Thomas
    Khris Middleton
    Jarret Jack
    Jusuf Nurkic
    Ersan Ilyasova
    Marcus Smart
    Harrison Barnes
Nik Stauskas (This was before the injury, still trying to decide who might replace him)

  7. hamtime says:
    (link)

Sup JB/Slim! Glad fantasy is finally approaching.

To best prep for my draft this year, what is your ideal strategy first few rounds? I notice you say to try to pair an elite big with an elite pg in your podcasts. Is there a “formula” you try and stick to? Won 1 league and came in 3rd in another thanks to you guys. Hoping for more magic this year!

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@hamtime: Hell yeah man, getting close! Nah I think with redrafts it all comes down to value, which ebbs and flows every draft. Of course, it helps I have my own ranks and know them in and out, so I always know who I’ll get when the clock is ticking 🙂 But yeah I want one elite PG, one elite big, one PG at 4th or 5th round – one of the mid-tier guys – then fill out with value in-between and cats I need afterwards. That’s my vague framework for this year haha

  8. Savo says:
    (link)

    I am in a 10-cat, H2H league with 10 players. I had the 10th pick.

    My team consists of

    lillard
    gobert
    whiteside
    drummond
    tobias harris
    brook lopez
    tyreke evans
    knight
    gallinari
    D. will
    Burks
    Myles Turner
    McCollum

I feel as if my big-man lineup is fairly strong (punting ft’s), but I am not so sure about my perimeter guys.

What are some of my team’s weaknesses, and what advice would you give me in terms of changing my team up? Perhaps you have some suggestions regarding replacement players or sleepers?

Thanks in advance for your analysis and feedback!

I truly appreciate all of the work you put into Razzball! Because of your rankings, podcasts, and articles I was able to win my league last year! Hopefully, I’ll be able to come close again this year!

  9. Xsaliden says:
    (link)

Decided to finally try one of the standard yahoo drafts 9-Cat H2H 12 team out of curiousity to see what I could pull off, and am curious what you guys would think

    I had the 2nd pick

    (2) Stephen Curry
Wished I could have gotten Davis but Stephs my favorite player and I wanted to have him on one team this year also Harden fell to 7 behind Westbrook, Paul, Lebron and Durant just so you have an idea of the kind of people in this draft

    (23) Deandre Jordan
    (26) Andre Drummond
Wanted Gobert but he went a few picks ahead and I decided here to punt ft% and To’s felt that getting to draft both of these two would make it work out okay.

    (47) Andrew Wiggins
    (50) Jonas Valanciunas
Thought about getting some pg’s but decided I could try to wait till it got back to me, let my love of Wiggins get in the way by not wanting to risk losing him by trying to get him lower and a run on bigs was happening so I took Jonas hoping Casey doesn’t screw me over for the third year in a row.

    (71) Elfrid Payton
    (74) Ricky Rubio
Decided now was the time before the pg’s got terrible and was glad to get Payton, and am hoping Rubio stays healthy this year to give me those sweet ast and steals otherwise to the waver wire for Zach Lavine I go.

    (95) Bradley Beal
    (98) Eric Gordon
Decided I needed scoring and 3’s badly having ignored those beyond Curry and Wiggins and think these two have some upside this year for doing better then last years performance.

    (119) Ersan Ilyasova
    (122) KCP!!!
Stan Van’s 3 point bombers, decided to listen to you guys on Ghost Face and like getting him this low and felt encouraged by the news and KCP’s performance today to get him. Felt rather than the uninteresting pg’s still around and the usual forward suspects I would take these two.

    (143) Aaron Gordon
    (146) Myles Turner
Almost drafted Stanley Johnson to almost become the Detroit Pistons of fantasy but with for my last two picks I chose these two rookies as my high upside fliers, think they’ll build on the fg%, rebs, and blks that I had been neglecting for the last 6 picks and still give me goodies in 3’s and stls.

So what do you all think?

My Draft on 28th September on a 16 man 9-cat Yahoo! redraft daily league.

    1. (4) LeBron James (Cle – SF,PF)
    2. (29) Pau Gasol (Chi – PF,C)
    3. (36) Jeff Teague (Atl – PG)
    4. (61) Derrick Favors (Uta – PF,C)
    5. (68) Reggie Jackson (Det – PG,SG)
    6. (93) Jordan Clarkson (LAL – PG)
    7. (100) Myles Turner (Ind – C)
    8. (125) Darren Collison (Sac – PG)
    9. (132) Alec Burks (Uta – PG,SG)
    10. (157) Zaza Pachulia (Dal – C)
    11. (164) Gerald Henderson (Por – SG,SF)
    12. (189) Tony Wroten (Phi – PG,SG)
    13. (196) Kendall Marshall (Phi – PG)

Traded LEBRON/FAVORS for WALL/GOBERT, and a few waiver wire moves, my current team now:

PG: John Wall, Jeff Teague, Jordon Clarkson, Darren Collison, Kendall Marshall
SG: Reggie Jackson, Alec Burks, Gerald Henderson
    SF: Justin Anderson
    PF: Pau Gasol
C: Rudy Gobert, Myles Turner, Zaza Pachulia

This is my first PG heavy build (especially after the trade) and I lead the assists in the league by a huge margin — I think it will make for juicy trade bait as we get into the season.

Let me know what you guys think, who i should target, how long I should wait, if I should trade at all, etc.

    cheers

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@patrickindo: Whoa, nice trade! Pretty crazy value there, although Favors at 61 was a crazy value too!

Yeah agree, your PG depth is incredible. I would roll with it and likely be OK losing TO and explore a trade to a team desperate there into the season.

      We’ll review on the Pod!

@patrickindo: Nahhhh, I think Snell plays a lot too. McBuckets is a little big for wing minutes, I think he’s locked into a pretty boring bench role and only scores a little for value

    SF – Gay, Gallinari
    PF – A.Davis, T.Jones, Meyers Leonard

Hey guys, here’s an REL-style team for you: 16-team, 30-man roster H2H 8-cat Dynasty. Thing to note is auction budget was 2x normal (so $400). Salaries (which are just the prices we bought guys at) increase annually, but I’ll worry about that later. What do you think about this team’s makeup and ability to compete in a league with 400 players owned? Thanks!

    PG: Steph Curry ($126)
    SG: Andrew Wiggins ($61)
    SF: C.J. Miles ($8)
    PF: Kyle O’Quinn ($9)
    C: Rudy Gobert ($87)
    G: Monta Ellis ($31)
    F: Luol Deng ($9)
    UTIL: Enes Kanter ($25)
    UTIL: Jared Sullinger ($11)
    UTIL: Paul Pierce ($8)

Bench: Jeff Green ($10), Norris Cole ($1), Steve Blake ($1), JJ Barea ($1), Vince Carter ($1), Trever Booker ($1), Samuel Dalembert ($1), Jeremy Evans ($1), James Young ($1), Jordan Mickey ($1), Anthony Brown ($1)

      • jon says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: Early bonus question! Got a trade on the table that would look like this:

        I give: Monta (31)/Kanter (35)

        I get: Favors (50)/M. Barnes (4)

Favors and Kanter are automatic keepers at 20% salary inflation (from those numbers). Monta and Barnes cannot be kept.

Do you make that deal given the team build above? Love Favors potential in Dynasty, but feels like I’m giving up a fair bit of value in Monta/Kanter. Thoughts?

        • jon says:

@JB Gilpin: Hey fellas – something that occurred to me as I was thinking about Pacers. I wonder: what are the chances Vogel uses Monta as a kind of 2nd-unit floor general the way he used to do with Lance? Similar skill sets (though Monta can hit a 3 if need be). Maybe he leaves Monta out there as transition piece between first and second units while George and Hill are getting rest.

Does that make sense? Added pace plus that role could really help his value.

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@jon: Hmmmm, it’s possible. Sorta depends on how well Monta and Stuckey can play, since I imagine Stuckey will get decent 2nd unit run. Theoretically with Monta moving to more a 1 then Stuckey to the 2…

I love Monta, he seems always undervalued, I might have to bring this up on the Pod!

My apologies for going off topic here but …

…our 14-team fantasy basketball league needs one good owner. This is a $40 league (LeagueSafe) drafting Sunday, Oct. 11 at 8:30 p.m. on ESPN. I hope to fill the spot in the next couple of hours as we’ll do a supplemental offline round to disperse players from two contracted teams.

This is a H2H league with five cats (pts, reb, ast, stl, blk) – weighted towards points, then rebounds and assists and then steals and blocks.

We use simple 1-year, 2-year, 3-year, etc. contracts, keep 4 this year (inching up next three seasons before settling at 7).

The team is strong: Aldridge, Bosh, Dragic – with 2-year deals; Favors on a one-year deal – but can be extended a year.

I have a full Charter (for rules), a Google roster document and I’m happy to answer any questions.

Email me if interested or reply here.

So I’m mulling over a trade proposal in Dynasty h2h 8 cat, 12 team.

My conley + gallo for hayward.

I don’t NEED to make a trade but I want another slot to play the wire in our upcoming FA draft. Guys like Burks, KCP, Jack, aminu, Leonard, CJ, KOQ are all sitting there. One of them (hoping for burks at least) is bound to put up some great value this season and beyond. I also want a slot open to be able to pick up Capela because I think he blows up this season or next and have a slot to stream. I figure as well I can always get lucky and strike gold on 2 guys from the FA draft and then do a 2 for 1 trade but seems unlikely.

Anyways, what do you think, make the trade offer or no?

    • Nick says:
      (link)

      @Nick:

OR Pau + Gallo for Millsap, but that one scares me for this season haha

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@Nick: Definitely agree with your analysis of the wire – Burks should def not be avail, and definitely not Jack in 8 cat. But the trade feels a little rich for me. Even as a Conley hater and ranked in the 50s this year, I lovvvvvve Gallo this season. A weird way to look at it, in my eyes, is I don’t think the difference between Gallo and Hayward is worth a Conley. But it is razor close in dynasty, you’re getting the younger guy. Kinda rethinking that assessment in dynasty terms… Yeah the Pau one I wouldn’t do, Millsap is no spring chicken himself. Damn, any other wing you can offer other than Gallo to try and get the Hayward one?

        • Nick says:
          (link)

          @JB Gilpin:

My wings are tjones, Gallo and draymond haha so pretty stacked.

This is a case of the rich trying to get richer. Woe is me right! Haha

I think what I’m going to try and do now is nab burks and a player that can start the year hot then pair one of those with my rookie (WCS, we have a rookie slot on our roster) for turner which gets me the better rookie and opens back up a roster spot.

But for guards I’ve got wall, dragic and knight as well. Conley was who I felt most comfortable shipping.

          • JB Gilpin

            JB Gilpin says:
            (link)

@Nick: Ahhhhh yeah that’s a pretty stack of wings haha. Yeah I like that plan for sure.

Yup agree with that. I think I agree with your first comment, you don’t NEED to trade right now…

              (link)

              @JB Gilpin:

@Nick: Aaron Gordon right? Not Gordon Hayward? Hmmmmm it’s close… I know I have them close in my ranks, but I might do that for TJ, tough though

Here’s a question: in your regular 10-team roto L, anywhere from 12-14 cat, where does KD fit in a draft? Once AD is off at #1, I find myself really struggling between Harden, Curry, and KD. This could be a real issue come my draft, if I land a 2-4 pick…

@Lasandro: I’m still in that order, Harden/Curry/KD. There’s just a little too much risk still with Durant, it seems like he should be healthy but who knows if it takes a while for him to get back to MVP form?

    Good Move or Bad?

    16 Team, H2H league.

I have the #1 draft pick in a keeper league. After everyone who owned a team keeps their studs, My top pick of the litter will likely be Wall or Lillard (Because I have no keepers, other than maybe Gobert). My second round pick was #17. I traded it:

    My 2nd round (#17) for Their 2nd round (#29) For…..
Their 3rd round (#36) for my 3rd round (#48) and..
    Their 5th round (#68) for my 5th round (#80).

My new picks look like this:
    1
    29
    36
    49
    68
    81
    112
    113
    144
    145
    176
    177
    208

????? Also.. Is Gobert keepable as opposed to the Wall, Lillard that I’m sure will be on the draft board. (the person that owned Wall is keeping Harden, and the person who owns Lillard is keeping ADavis.)

@NYFantaC: Well starting up top, yeah I would throw Gobert back to build around an elite PG. Hmmmm, it’s tough to say if that was a good move or not, seems lateral or about even. It’ll be easier to value after the draft, I have no issue with it

Hey guys, listener from Taiwan here. Just started listening this off-season and loving the show, you guys are really funny! Anyway, this is my team in a league I have with my basketball teammates – 12 team, H2H, 9cat.

    1. (8) Chris Paul
    2. (17) Rudy Gobert
    3. (32) Draymond Green
    4. (41) Chris Bosh
    5. (56) Danny Green (Favors was actually still available here… I kind of regret not picking him)
    6. (65) Ricky Rubio
    7. (80) Terrence Jones
    8. (89) Danilo Gallinari
    9. (104) Nikola Mirotic
    10. (113) D’Angelo Russell
    11. (128) Myles Turner
    12. (137) Darren Collison
    13. (152) Aaron Gordon

So obviously no one listens to the podcast in my league and I was able to draft according to your recommendations, which almost seems like an unfair advantage haha. I actually won this league last year, any suggestions for my team to win back to back? I think I might need more bigs.

      @Yun-Jhong: Thanks so much!

Yeah I probably would’ve gone Favors too, although you had 3 straight good big men picks. Haha well we appreciate that! Yeah picks 6-13 were all crazy values. I actually think your big men are awesome, Gordon/TJones/Dray will all help the more prototypical big man stats from Rudy and Bosh. Well Bosh is more stretch 4, but I think it’s solid. While Paul and Rubio can def win you assists, if Rubio has any sort of setback or another injury, PG could be tough. Love Collison there though.

I don’t see any issues, I think this is a winner!

@Pong: Nice steal there at the end! He’s gonna move up in my next re-rank, but we’ve liked him as for-sure draftable for a while. We’ll review the squad on the Pod!
