I love the evaluation of my mock draft team: “It’s ridiculous.” “3 rounds of applause”…Almost time for the real one.

Come on guys, its Joooooonnnnaassss not Jonas. Get it together now!

Thanks for the review anyway, I think you came to the same conclusion as me with respect to the lack of blocks and boards. I blame it on the Dirk pick, even though it was decent value, it gave me that false sense of “well, I’ve already drafted one big”. Too bad he doesn’t really give big stats. Then I made the mistake of taking Hawes over Henson hoping Henson would make it back to me. Too bad some jerk took him right after! What a loser eh JB?

I’ve gotta say, there was a lot of talk about the shower, what you do in the shower, and reach arounds in this pod. Is that the German influence there JB? After listening my team review I’m torn on whether I should name one of my teams “The reach around guy” or not. Hmmm, maybe my REL team since that might be the only way they score this year…

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@A Hill O’ Beans: Hahaha sorry man! We were too much into our German influenced shower play to get it right 🙂

That jerk JB is always taking your picks! Hey you took my Buck in Giannis, so we’re even! Dude, so pumped for REL. Got the last spot filled, so need to respond to the draft time request, I hope everyone makes it!

Thanks JB for the Tip. I now have a name for that team “Offensively Challenged”! I’m thinking of trying to trading Noah for Lillard straight up thoughts.

    *updated and reposted!*
    Hoping to make a pod!
    9cat, h2h, 14teamer

    Pick 5- Curry
    Pick 24- Kawhi
    Pick 33- Millsap
Pick 52- Drummo (our weird keeper rule)
    Pick 61- Jrue
    Pick 80- Wiggins
    Pick 89- Deron
    Pick 108- Giannis
    Pick 117- Henson
    Pick 136- Draymond
    Pick 145- KCP

    *traded Wiggins>J-Smoov
    *Draymond>McBob (FA)
    *KCP>P-Bev (FA)

    I’m close to Oladipo in a Deron+sweetener trade. He was close to a Deron+McBob and I just declined a Bosh+Dipo for Drummo+Deron.

    Roster settings are:
    PG
    SG
    SF
    PF
    C
    G
    F/C
    4x bench

Interested in your opinion of dual position for these guys: Curry, Kawhi, P-Bev, Smithy, Millsap, McBob and Henson.

If Curry gets SG eligibility I could slide my players up and play my 3 PG’s. Maybe trade Drummo and or Smithy for a Bosh/Dirk type player and punt reb/blocks.

If Kawhi gets SG eligibility I could slide my players down and reckon I’ll have a pretty well rounded team. Strong defensively, reb and 3’s. Maybe wait til Millsap plays and move him to a Dwight/Deandre to lock up reb and fg.
    Cheers!

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Richo: We’ll be sure to talk the team on the next pod!

Yeah Curry to SG is the only big roster eligibility I see. I think you’re fine on positions anyway, but yeah he Kawhi will help. Nah, I wouldn’t trade Millsap for those guys! He’s gonna be nasty. Unless Drummond takes another huge leap forward…

Love the Dipo trade if you can make it work!

      • Richo says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: I haven’t heard the podcast yet so not sure if you mentioned my team. I just traded and I feel so sad because I love Drummo. Trade was too good not to take it.

        Drummo+P-Bev > Bosh+Dipo

I like Dipo about half as much as I love Drummo and Bosh is just so damn fun to look at.
He convinced me by showing me the video of Dipo singing ‘ain’t no sunshine’

JB/Slim/anyone, what do you think of having daily vs weekly lineup changes in H2H? Any strategy differences? I would guess daily means getting more depth and/or streaming more than weekly. I’ve always played daily but I was going to make it weekly this year since I figured it takes more skill, since there’s less streaming opportunities and you have to make smart lineup choices, and it also allows to bench injured guys, but my friends don’t wanna do it and one guy pointed out to me that you can really get screwed because of injuries early in the week or guys with unknown injury status on Mondays. What do you guys think and which type do you prefer? Which type do you usually play in?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@CTMN: I definitely prefer daily. I actually haven’t done a weekly league in quite some time. Injuries are definitely a big part of it, plus it’s more fun scooping up guys over the weekend for what you need. I actually argue daily takes more skill, i.e. finding guys to fill your cats over just setting and forgetting your lineup. If your league is hesitant, I would keep it daily 🙂 One thing you could do is limited pickups? Or FAAB? Those bring in more skill than the willy nilly waiver wire add/droppers

      • CTMN says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: Thanks for the suggestions. Yeah we’ve been doing 5 adds per week max, I think we’re gonna stick with that. We don’t even have waivers, lol we just get guys whenever we wanna get them. Maybe daily does take more skill and I just haven’t realized it.

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@CTMN: Both certainly take skill, but yeah limiting to 5 is definitely a tougher approach than unlimited.

    • Richo says:
      (link)

@CTMN: My league is weekly, I reckon daily would screw people who aren’t really into it. In weekly it matters less how good your bench is, need gun starters.

      • Richo says:
        (link)

@Richo: ..and injuries do happen but I’ve found they don’t make too much difference. 22 games can beat 26 easily enough, kinda cool winning with one less player too haha

        • CTMN says:
          (link)

@Richo: I thought weekly would be fun but no one else really wants to do it so I guess I’ll just do daily, it’s not too bad.

Great post & conversations as usual! Need your views on this mock draft for a 14-team 9-cat H2H league:
    #9 Wall
    #19 Millsap
    #35 Rubio
    #45 Favors
    #61 MCW
#71 RLopez (should i have taken Ariza when i needed 3s but i sticked to 3 bigs format, or should i have reached for Markieff)
    #87 Giannis (markieff/tjones/calderon taken)
    #97 Knight (options were taj/frye)
    #113 Draymond
    #123 Henson (meeks/rjax taken)
    #139 Jameer
    #149 Ross
    #165 Mason Plumlee

Anything you would have done differently or how to improve weaknesses?

    Thanks in advance!

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@RBfanatic: Thanks man, glad to see ya droppin by!

MCW 61… Ummm, cmon now other drafters! I don’t know why he’s falling so much. Love Favors there. Millsap 19 is awesome. Lopez… I just hate him so much! It’s irrational. I would’ve taken Ariza, but that’s me 🙂

Love all your other picks. Knight that late is awesome. Might be a tad low in scoring, but in 14 team league, barely. It would lose TO most weeks, but I have no issue with that. I think that team would be fine everywhere else and easily should make the finals. Love it!

Howdy, Gents. I’ll submit my team for the ol’ podcast roast. I present to you the Mirotic Thrillers of the Emasculating Hoops Lozenges RCL:

    PG: Mike Conley
    SG: Goran Dragic
    G: Jose Calderon
    SF: Kyle Korver
    PF: Chandler Parsons
    F: Andre Igoudala
    C: Serge Ibaka, Derrick Favors
    Util: Nene, Jeremy Lin
BN: JJ Redick, Javale McGee, DJ Augustin

I know I’m heavy on threes and shy a big perhaps. I also have an efficiency fetish so I tend to value good percentages and low TO more than I probably should. Whaddya think?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

@Clyde Prompto: Podcast roast! I like that. We’ll chat it up on the pod, I don’t wanna give away any spoilers!

  8. RBfanatic says:

The shoulder injury might scare them a bit, but i’ll gladly pounce on him if he’s still there.
Been debating on whether to start with a Wall-Millsap-Rubio-Favors combo or Ibaka-Millsap-Rubio-MCW/Kemba/Jrue/Oladipo combo for the first 4 picks. What do you think?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@RBfanatic: I like the first set a very small bit better, but only thing I caution is Favors in the 4th because people seem to be reaching more and more for him. Which I welcome! But it might throw you off.

  9. CTMN says:
    (link)

Yo guys. I have great news and bad news.
The great news – I got the #1 pick in my league. KD!!!
The bad news – I’m the ccommissioner, and I didn’t see the draft order at first, so I randomized it again and it looks like I cheated. But I actually didn’t, I’m 100% serious about this.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@CTMN: Sweet! Well if everything else is randomized, I don’t see why there’d be any dissent from your league. I’m sure you’re good!

      • CTMN says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: I’m gonna go Durant at one, then…..
        2nd/3rd – a big and a PG – I’m thinking Millsap/Horford but maybe Drummond (if they’re there)?
4th/5th – probably Favors and hope for Rubio? Maybe MCW or Kemba if not Rubio.
6th/7th – a PG (MCW/Teague hopefully) and either markieff or T Jones (hope I’m not reaching)

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@CTMN: Def Millsap! I’m huge on him. And yeah love Favors and Rubio if both fall, same with MCW in the 5th. I have Kieff and TJones in the early 80s, so not reaching at all for me!

          • CTMN says:
            (link)

@JB Gilpin: Thanks. I think I’m gonna go Kieff/PG at 72/73, then hope Brandon Knight falls to 96/97 for my 4th PG and he qualifies at SG (he’s ranked 107 by yahoo). I’m hoping Jones also falls to 96/97 but I’m not sure it’ll happen. Maybe I can lowball and offer before the season starts, but it sucks cause our draft is after preseason will have already given away some clues about sleepers.

            • JB Gilpin

              JB Gilpin says:
              (link)

@CTMN: Love it! Jones has been falling to the 90s a lot so I think it could easily happen.

              • CTMN says:
                (link)

@JB Gilpin: I’m scared it won’t happen though…do you think Markieff might be more likepu to fall? Maybe I should just take Markieff and see Jones as a bonus because I definitely don’t wanna miss out on Markieff but Jones I can deal with missing him. Plus picking Markieff lets me name my team “Chief Markieff”.

                • Slim

                  Slim says:
                  (link)

@CTMN: I think I’d just go with ‘Chief Kieff’. But yeah I think Markieff has less of a chance of falling in the draft than TJones. I like em both, and they are somewhat similar but I think Markieff’s minutes are locked in.

                  • CTMN says:
                    (link)

@Slim: Thanks for the advice. I think I’ll look for markieff. Yeah Chieff Kieff was the general idea of it.

                • JB Gilpin

                  JB Gilpin says:
                  (link)

@CTMN: Agree, Morris is locked in a long deal and in a guaranteed role. Although Jones isn’t too risky either to me.

          • CTMN says:
            (link)

@JB Gilpin: Do you think Millsap or Horford is a better fit for a KD team? I’m guessing both will be there. I like Millsap for more categories, better stls and the 3s plus no injury risk, but Horford is a better shot blocker, and his fg% is really good, especially with KD. I don’t think the injury risk is that high anyway. So which would you guys want?

            • JB Gilpin

              JB Gilpin says:
              (link)

@CTMN: I don’t think the injury risk is that high either… Man that’s close since I like both, I think I’ll still lean Millsap because I think he’s gonna have a phenomenal year. Even though having KD already makes them very very very close given what horford brings ya

              • CTMN says:
                (link)

@JB Gilpin: Thanks for the thoughts, it’s a tough one…I guess I can’t really go wrong there as long as they stay healthy. Maybe someone will pick one of them before it gets to me and make my decision a little easier. But I’m pretty confident in picking one of those 2 either way.

                • JB Gilpin

                  JB Gilpin says:
                  (link)

@CTMN: Yeah completely agree. Hawks bigs = win win!

                  • CTMN says:
                    (link)

@JB Gilpin: For my PG, should this injury news worry me about Ty Lawson?
“Ty Lawson had “minor bone damage” in his badly sprained left ankle, according to the Denver Post, and he’s been playing with a lightweight brace during training camp.
Lawson missed the final 10 games of the 2013-14 season with the injury, and he wasn’t even able to run until July. The injury isn’t limiting him during the preseason, but it was much more than a simple sprain. According to beat writer Christopher Dempsey, Lawson’s ankle will require “almost daily maintenance of some sort.” ”
Right now I’m thinking my preference would be Lillard, Lowry, Dragic, Lawson in that order, but maybe I’m just a bit biased for Lowry as a Raptors fan…

                    • JB Gilpin

                      JB Gilpin says:
                      (link)

@CTMN: It’s not the best news, but no, I’m not lowering Lawson any though yet. I’m sure a ton of NBA players need daily maintenance of some sort during the season. But yeah, I have those PG nearly in the same order – Lillard Dragic Lowry then Lawson.

    1st pick/12-team league/ 10 category roto (offensive boards + double doubles)

    1st- Durant
    24th- Kawhi Leonard
    25th- Drummond
    48th-Oladipo
    49th- Goran Dragic

Think i’m a little low on assists, who would you go next round if they fall for me. This is an ongoing live draft:

    Antetokounmpo
    Jose Calderon
    Nerloens Noel
    Marcin Gortat
    Markieff Morris

@Derek Scott: No idea how Drummo slipped that far in a league with offensive boards and double-doubles.. He had about 100 more offensive boards than anyone last year.

@Richo: lol I know right!! Obviously I’m playing with a bunch of new players!! They’ll learn!

    • Derek Scott says:

@CTMN: I’d say your fine, you’ll just have to be mindful of Ft % the rest of the draft.

      • CTMN says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: Yeah I’m just not sure I want to do anything that stops me from dominating FTs cause of KD. Also the volume might increase so I’m not sure.

    Khang says:

Here was my draft from last night. Tried my best to follow the guide, but no luck.

    1. Stephen Curry: AD was gone, so it was between Curry and Lebron. Lebrick can take his talents to Cleveland and their awful playoffs schedule. Curry all the way.

    2. Kyle Lowry: Razzball logic indicates that you NEED to get 2 PGs in the first 4 rounds, so this was a no brainer.

    3. Deandre Jordan: Was gonna take Millsap to make JB happy, but some other guy took him first. Old habits die hard. Had to take DJ.

    4. Jrue Holiday: Already met my two PG quota, but I wanted to exceed expectations (can’t just do the bare minimum). MCW was gone, and Kemba Walker sucks. Jrue it is.

    5. Nerlens Noel: Wanted to pick Favors, another Razzball love child. Unfortunately he was gone. Happy with getting Noel with my 5th pick considering he’s getting more love than AD in his rookie year.

    6. Trevor Ariza: Tried my best to follow JB’s guide, but seems like everyone else is too. After missing out on my last 3 targets, I went back to my old ways. Arizaaaaaa!!

    7. Jose Calderon: ESPN thinks he’s gonna get 8.7 assists and 2+ treys. They can’t be wrong all of the time…

    8. John Henson: Wanted Valencunias because he plays for the raptors, and Hibbert because he can’t possibly be terrible all the time? They were both gone right before my pick. At least this pick is Razzball compliant lol.

    9. Tyson Chandler: Dirk thinks he’s awesome. That’s good enough for me.

    10. Jodie Meeks: 2+ treys, 1.5 steals, and low TOs. He’s like Ariza, without the boards. KCP’s emergence has me worried.

    11. JR Smith: Needed another SF so I had to draft JR. Hoping that Dr. Phil will help him get his head straight, along with the rest of the Knicks.

    12. Carlos Boozer: Every other sleeper big man was gone, so I had to fall back on Boozer. I still believe in Booze!

    13. Nene: Was tearing it up before he got injured. Might be good for a steal and a block, along with solid FG if he manages to stay in one piece.

    • JB Gilpin

@Khang: Still, MONSTER TEAM! Love love love it. Love the PG depth, Ariza in the 6th is perfectly fine and where I have him, and you put together good big men. FT% might struggle a little, but I think you can win it some weeks. Me likey much more, nice draft!
