For anyone who is in their early 30s (or older), this song would be familiar.  Sadly, I’m giving away my age.  Slim is totally not gonna be drafting me if I was a professional NBA player.

In any case, it’s the 1st week of the playoffs and where it’s either you make it to the next round, or it’s sayonara until next season.  Going into the weekend, it could be do or die… as is the case for most of my teams in Razzball leagues where I hobbled into the playoff spot without Kevin Durant.  So if you’re finding yourself in the similar situation of trying to get through via the band aid solution, these ideas below might help.

Let’s take it by day and some potential pick ups:

Friday

BOS @ BKN – 2nd day of b2b for BKN.  If the percentages aren’t a worry for your team, Marcus Smart could be a stream candidate for stls, 3s and ot of position rebs.  Those stats could be on steroids too should this end up being a blowout. If you’re in need of blks, Amir Johnson is also potential pickup. BOS also faces DAL on Sunday.  Trevor Booker can be a sneaky add (his ownership is down to 57% in Yahoo) against a BOS team that gives up a lot of rebs.

MIL @ LAL – Malcolm BrogdonTony Snell and even John Henson are all targets.  The guards for stls and 3s (and assists in the case of Brogdon, go ACC!!) and Henson for blks. On the LAL side, Larry Nance Jr. and Ivica Zubac if he’s still somehow available in your league.

HOU @ NOR – Jordan Crawford for scoring and 3s and E’Twaun Moore if you’re desperate for a lower end version of the same cats.

TOR @ DET – DeMarre Carroll has been dropped in a lot of leagues, looking for 3s and stls?  He could be a cheap option.

Saturday

There are only 3 teams that play Saturday and Sunday.  SAC, POR and SAS.  SAS is likely the only team with a high probability of resting guys due to the b2b.  The problem is, does Pop decide to rest guys on Saturday @ MEM or  Sunday vs SAC or maybe 1-2 on each game.  That’s the dilemma there if you’re looking to speculate on a decent pickup.

SAC @ OKC – Buddy Hield and any other SG that’s available I suppose if Tyreke Evans is still a DNP.  I don’t watch nor follow enough SAC games to frankly care.

HOU @ DEN – Jamal Murray for some stls and maybe scoring/3s as well.

MIL @ GSW – 2nd night of b2b for MIL.  Same MIL targets above minus Henson.  Andre Iguodala possibly for some defensive cats against the MIL wings.

UTA @ CHI – Rodney Hood left yesterday’s game due to right knee soreness and if he misses the rest of the week, I like Joe Ingles for some all around contribution.

Sunday

CLE @ LAL – J.R. Smith and Channing Frye are decent targets for scoring and 3s against a team that is looking to not decrease its chances of keeping the protected top 3 draft pick.

BOS @ PHI – Same BOS players mentioned above. Will add Jaylen Brown to the mix if looking for a sprinkle of 3s and rebs due to the blowout potential.  If Richaun Holmes is still available, I like him vs the Celts.

PHO @ DET – If assists is a battle, Ish Smith and/or Tyler Ulis are worth the gamble. Heck if it’s potentially your last moves for the season, you gotta go for it.

DAL @ BKN – J.J Barea is back. Similar to above, if looking for assists, he’s a target. So is Yogi Ferrell.  I’ll side with the former for assists assuming he’s playing.  Yogi if looking for 3s.

SAC @ SAS – Depending on who may (or may not) be rested, those SAS bigs that typically come off the bench, David Lee and/or Dewayne Dedmon are targets depending on the big men cats you’re team is looking for.

That wraps it up for the 1st week of the fantasy playoffs.  Good luck to everyone!

I’m going to lay out my team for you, I have one more move I can make this week that will take place next week. Monday weekly lock league Standard 12 team 9 cat h2h. I am currently in bye week. I will have 4 additional moves @3:00am monday that will take affect the following after(the championship)

    PG: Tyler Ulis

    PG/SG: Steph Curry/Avery Bradley/George Hill

SG: KCP(top canidate on my team for a drop(I think)

SF: Only Porter (concern of mine)

    PF/C: Davis/Cousins/Zeller(considering dropping)

    C: Whiteside/Zubac(Considering dropping)

Wondering if any of these players would be the better add for the remainder of the season over any of my potential drop players.

    Courtney lee(sg/sf), Holmes (PF/c), Aaron Gordon(SF/PF), Mirotic (Sf/PF), WCS(PF/C), Ellington (Sg/Sf)

Please keep in mind my team needs. Thank you!

@Fahed Misho: hmmmm…tough call. In a vacuum, the only player I’d add is Holmes(4 games) to replace Zubac(3 games). I’d keep Porter for the stls, 3s and low TOs. The way I’d approach this for other questionable players is to look at your likely opponent. Assess strengths/weaknesses vs yours and then see if you’d to add to 3s, scoring or need more on the defensive cats.

In a close matchup in 3s, REB, STL (its win or go home) with 2 moves left for the week.

Need to stream 2 players for SAT/SUN b2b:

JR Smith vs (LAC,LAL) — will he get rested in b2b? Shump got inj and Kyrie as well
Patty Mills vs (MEM,SAC) — does he also get rested?
Skal Labissiere vs (OKC,SAS) — tough matchup
    Allen Crabbe vs (ATL,MIA)
Moe Harkless vs (ATL,MIA) — slumping real bad
Deron Williams vs (LAC,LAL) — rest? Kyrie left game early with left knee tightness
Channing Frye vs (LAC,LAL) — not really good lately but fits my 3s,reb,stl need (rest?)
Buddy Hield vs (OKC,SAS) — tough matchup for the rook
Garrett Temple vs(OKC,SAS) — good bet for rest?

I’m dropping Zubac and CoJo after their games on FRI.. or maybe I could drop Gary Harris/Bev/Ariza/Middleton after the SAT game and keep one of Zubac and CoJo?

If this is the way to go I have more options since there are more people playing on SUN.
Here are my options for SUN only game.
BOS vs PHI (Smart,McConnell, Amir, Olynyk, Brown, Holmes)
BKN vs DAL (Levert, Foye, Acy, Yogi, Barea)
    DET vs PHO (MarcMorris, Chriss)
IND vs TOR (Miles, Monta, Powell, Patterson, Tucker)
LAL vs CLE (Nance, Ingram, Swaggy, Frye, Deron, JR Smith, Jefferson)
MIA vs POR (Ellington, Crabbe, Hark)
MIN vs NOR (Rush, Cunningham, S.Hill)
SAS vs SAC (Mills, Ginobili, Tolliver, Temple, Skal)

I’m not sure which teams give the most 3s, reb, stls and sorry for the super long post. 🙂
I know you are good with numbers and knowledgeable on which teams gives up these stats.
    Appreciate your inputs as always.

@Tyler: Man, this is tough…I’d probably drop Harkless for Smart but only if you can do it in time to get 2 games out of Smart. Then I’d wait to see how those close cats look after Friday’s game to see if you either drop CoJo or wait for one of the post Saturday game options to drop.

      Hope it works out…good luck!

@JG: Oops. Im sorry if my post wasn’t clear. I don’t own Harkless. He and Smart are available in the ww. I’ve listed the players with b2b above and am dropping zubac and cojo. 🙂

@JG: With the players below having b2b, who do you think is the best stream among them, can you rank the top 2 streams:

JR Smith vs (LAC,LAL) — will he get rested in b2b? Shump got inj and Kyrie as well
Patty Mills vs (MEM,SAC) — does he also get rested?
Skal Labissiere vs (OKC,SAS) — tough matchup
        Allen Crabbe vs (ATL,MIA)
Moe Harkless vs (ATL,MIA) — slumping real bad
Deron Williams vs (LAC,LAL) — rest? Kyrie left game early with left knee tightness
Channing Frye vs (LAC,LAL) — not really good lately but fits my 3s,reb,stl need (rest?)
Buddy Hield vs (OKC,SAS) — tough matchup for the rook
Garrett Temple vs(OKC,SAS) — good bet for rest?

@Tyler: gotya. I think Skal/Buddy/Mills/JR Smith in no order as “best” off of that list depending on needs.
