It’s crunch time people. We are in the playoffs and it’s balls to the wall from here on out. No long intro this week fortunately or unfortunately for you, as my body is still trying to repulse the HPV that Tahitian drag queen gave me in Bora Bora. I can hardly keep my eyes open for you, the readers, I would never leave hanging. Let’s hop right into this past weekend’s hit or miss performances. Please, blog, may I have some more?
I love all fantasy sports. Baseball might be my favorite, just because it’s so long and hard and there’s so many guys to choose from…
But there are moments, fleeting highlights and moments, that I think make Fantasy Basketball special. Like yesterday, with DeAndre Jordan absolutely murdah-ing Brandon Knight on the alley. If you’re on your computer, just go to ESPN or NBA. I mean Daaaaahhhhuuuummmm. Lots of twitters about it, but my favorite might have been from Knight himself: “It wasn’t in the scouting reports that the clippers threw lobs lol”. Hah! Glad to see he isn’t in a deep depression. Makes it more fun that everyone can smile about it. ESPN then had a top ten of posterized moments. All the others looked like the posterizee was about to kill the posterizer. I’m 6’7 and I got posterized once by a guy the same height, but I didn’t know he had hops. I just smiled and went my way, and luckily everyone didn’t go nuts/it wasn’t in front of 15,000 people. Or else I’d be more Patrick Ewing than Brandon Knight.
Fantasy-wise, Jordan is still the barely-ownable center he has been all year. You should get a bonus for posterized dunks. Had one of his best games of late going 5-5 13 Pts 7 Rebs 1 Ast and 2 Blks. Been at least 7 and 5 with a block the last five. If you need blocks plus want to be on the edge of your seat if you only watch highlights of players on your team, give Jordan a look if he’s available.
Here’s what else went down over the weekend:Please, blog, may I have some more?
Kevin Garnett sat out Friday night (DNP old and tired) and Jeff Green finally got his chance to start. Doing the best KG impression he could muster, he tore up Los Suns with a season-high 31 points and added 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and 5 blocks. Oh, hello there! What did you say your name was? I don’t believe we’ve met. They traded you for who–Kendrick Perkins!? Pffft! If we step into the Razzball DeLorean back to several weeks ago, let’s see what I said about Jeff: “I don’t think we’ll see the real Jeff Green until he gets his chance to start…If he can ever put it all together he’s got all the tools to be a fantasy stud.” And that’s me quoting me! Green shot a fantastical 11-of-14 from the field, scored 15 in the first half alone and even hit 3 shots from downtown. If you haven’t picked him up yet you should go pick him up now, he’s still available in about a third of yahoo leagues but that number will shoot up over the weekend, especially with the Celtics fans clamoring for Doc Rivers to start Green on a day-to-day basis. Jeff is averaging 17.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3 assists, 1.5 3pm and 1.5 blk in the past 7 days and after last nights performance is worth adding in all standard leagues if you’re feeling lucky. Please, blog, may I have some more?
I have a dream. A dream that all men and women, representing every race in this marvelous world, will one day unite and make Razzball the most popular website in history. A dream that I will become America’s most infamous fantasy sports writer. Please, blog, may I have some more?
Elton Brand played 33 minutes in the Mavs/Thunder OT thriller Friday night and scored 10 points with 13 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, and he has now double-doubled in back to back games. You’ve been Branded! EB is starting to get comfortable with his new sixth man role, and Friday’s game was his fourth in a row scoring in double-digits, including a sweet season high 20 point game last Sunday. Please, blog, may I have some more?
I’ve seen enough. Injury prone label be damned, Stephen Curry rises to the second tier of the point guard rankings. I’ve always loved the talent but that ankle injury is frightening (I drafted him in the 2nd round last year…sigh). Through 25 games this year Curry has stayed healthy and hasn’t missed a start. Please, blog, may I have some more?
With a dazzling 17 points, 13 rebounds, 7 assists, 1 steal and 1 block, Nicolas Batum showed why he is the darling of the fantasy community. He also seems to be out of his recent “funk,” averaging 19 1/2 points, 10 boards and 1 1/2 blocks in the past 2 games. Please, blog, may I have some more?
If only for one game–but what a game! Larry Sanders, a.k.a. the Sand Man, a.k.a. that bench player on the Bucks, brought himself the game of his dreams last night with his first career triple double, 10 points, 12 rebounds and an incredible 10 blocks. Please, blog, may I have some more?
Kris Humphries (3/4/0 with 2 blocks) fouled Kevin Garnett (16/10/1) somewhat hard (his flopping made it look worse than it was). Rajon Rondo (6/1/3 with 2 steals) took exception to the contact, and since NBA players are mature, emotionally well-adjusted individuals, a brawl ensued, resulting in the ejection of Humpy and Rondo. Please, blog, may I have some more?
Now that the rust is coming off the season (except for you Steve Nash), we’ll be splitting the Wednesday posts into morning (for recaps) and afternoon (for the tiers). Check out the previous Centers, Forwards, and Guards tiers. This week we’ll jump right into the guards. Please, blog, may I have some more?
