Wow. What a riveting week for basketball fans. And not a single game was played! It harkened me back to the days of drafting on the PS2, then sitting back and simming the season. Then making my big board for the incoming rookies. Then drafting, with a bite of pizza here and a sip of Coke there. I would zone out for hours, enthralled by the team building process. And that’s what makes the NBA Draft so great. The new crop of players are entering the league and the general managers are filling in the pieces of the puzzle. Hope and optimism pervade fan bases across the country. Sorry Bulls fans. I didn’t mean you. Which segues nicely to my first rant…

How the flying F does Jimmy Butler get traded for Zach LaVine, Kris Dunn, and the No. 7 pick (Lauri Markkanen)? AND the Bulls threw in the No. 16 pick (Justin Patton). The only explanation I can come up with is that Tom Thibodeau has a suitcase worth of “things” that he’s been waiting for the proper moment to utilize. I believe I’ve just figured out what’s in the Pulp Fiction briefcase. Remember, back in 2015, the Bulls kicked Thibs to the curb in a rather unceremonious way. Finally, Thibs got his revenge. I mean, what other possible explanation could there be? LaVine is an explosive athlete, but he tore his ACL last season. Kris Dunn….I think this tweet explains it all:

Here we are again Razzball Nation, welcoming in the New Year with with another diet of College Basketball talk with a side helping of Euro ball to help wet our appetites, whilst helping trim our waistlines after some over indulgence of guilty pleasures over the holiday period.

So what of the NBA week we have just had? well for a starter course we saw 24 year old rookie Malcolm Brogdon post his first triple double of his young professional career New Year’s Eve with a line of 15 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds on a resurgent Bucks team; for our main course we saw the first ever 50/15/15 line in NBA history when James Harden finished his 2016 with a remarkable 53 points, 17 assists and 16 rebounds; and staying on the triple double theme, for dessert a timely 2nd triple double of the season for Julius Randle on Tuesday, just days after writing about him last week (posting 19 points, 11 assists and 14 rebounds).

Seems like only yesterday that the basketball season got underway, but damn, we are already fast approaching week 9 and nearing the halfway mark of the fantasy regular season. So how are your teams shaping up? Hopefully you have been paying attention to the great advice given by my esteemed colleagues here at Razzball and you’re riding high and looking down on the competition; but if you’re one of those owners whose team is more injury prone than the Grizzlies and in need of a shake up, then there is plenty of help here to guide you to the next step of looking forward to next season and beyond.
