The new year brings us the glorious 2nd coming of the Durantula, again. Kevin Durant looked better than expected going 44/10/7/0/1 with 6 3s and 12-12 FTs. Sure you could argue the stat line was OT aided but just that Durant played 40 minutes after missing 6 games tells me there is nothing wrong with his ankle. I imagine any buy low window is long gone after this game but he might be worth one last attempt to trade for. If you thought this is why I watched this game though you would be wrong. I wanted to see the Steven Adams vs Alex Len match-up. Lurch with 9/7/1/1/0 in 27 minutes and Len with 2/6/0/0/1 in 22 minutes. There is no question Adams is the guy to own. Neither are part of the offense but at times Len looked bored and unsure of what he was supposed to be doing on both ends of the court. That is a sentence I will never write about Steven Adams. His aggression does one of two things. The foul trouble associated will give him a few duds but it will also lead to big games which I don’t think Len has in him this year. There were a ton of huge stat lines in this 137-134 overtime thriller but perhaps the stat that tells the biggest story was the 6 technical fouls. Including two and an ejection for…Please, blog, may I have some more?
The Washington Post recently ran an interesting article about NBA players who can’t hit free throws. Not being able to make a free throw is possibly the most embarrassing thing a basketball player can fail out, equivalent to a baseball player who can’t throw (note to John Wall). Please, blog, may I have some more?
The NBA had its second triple double of the year, and it was earned by Jose Calderon. He scored 13 points, 10 assists, and 10 rebounds. He has been averaging a whopping 1.0 rebound per game, so this was a wee bit of a surprise. Please, blog, may I have some more?
As I peeled myself off the linoleum floor, sucked down the last few drops of last night’s Bitburger beer and licked the crusted schnitzel off my fingertips, the memories of last night’s NBA Finals celebration reignited in my mind. Dirk is a champion. Please, blog, may I have some more?
One more night. I know I’ve got a long summer filled with postseason rankings ahead of me. Not to mention keepers, sleepers, rookies, lockout news, more lockout news, Ron Artest-is-bored-and-crazy news, Greg Oden-is-progressing-and-looking-forward-to-a-lockout-shortened season news, Hey-is-that-Luke-Ridnour?-Why-is-he-even-in-this-state-much-less-at-my-laundromat-news, preseason rankings, and the inevitable process of writing about fantasy basketball if there is no real basketball. Please, blog, may I have some more?
Toney Douglas dropped 17 points the day after he dropped 28 and I suggested you probably ought not pick him up. Do I still say you shouldn’t pick him up despite dropping three 3-pointers as part of that 17? No. Why?Please, blog, may I have some more?
Perennial first-rounder Chris Paul slammed his noggin yesterday, hit the ground with a stillness that silences crazed stadiums, was carted off the court amid extended hush and finally gave a thumbs up to signify … that his hand wasn’t paralyzed, I guess. Please, blog, may I have some more?
Jason Richardson stepped out of his Delorean in a Phoenix uniform and dropped 24 points on 9-for-14 shooting (six threes). Dude hasn’t cleared 20 points since January 15 and hasn’t scored 24 since December 15. S’what happens when you go from being a team’s no.1 offensive option to another team’s no.4 offensive option. Please, blog, may I have some more?
Lamar Odom will have ‘problematic,’ lingering shoulder pain, according to Phil Jackson. I really appreciate when coaches expand on injury announcements by adding color with words like “problematic.” This lets us plebeians differentiate between injuries no one is happy to have from those that serve to improve lives; like that kid in ‘Rookie of the Year’ or Doc Brown’s run-in with the toilet back in 1955.Please, blog, may I have some more?
When I called the first Killers album “crappy,” I was wrong (shoulda saved that opinion for their last two). When I guessed that ‘Lost’ was all in Hurley’s head, I was wrong. When I said that no Ben & Jerry’s flavor could ever top Phish Food, I was wrong (shout out to Americone Dream! Please, blog, may I have some more?
