Yeah, I don’t think that title made any sense… But alas weather hath wreaked it’s icy cold fist of skulduggery and given me very little time for the update this morning. Concerns over some sort of phenomenon known as “black ice” perils a return journey. I have never heard of such things in NC! Blame those who believe in Global Warming! It ain’t warm at all! Sure, sure they’re related, but related in a Woody Allen is married to his daughter sorta thing… The cold is ruining my jokes, I swear, it’s the cold! I’ll try to get to as many things from last night as a I can, but as you probably realized by now, these are a stream-of-consciousness updates. There’s no telling where they’ll go! So let’s go way off the reservation and start with Rudy Gobert. Cue the Stephen Colbert puns! After starting with the big boys, Gobert got some D-League seasoning (we all know the French are good at cooking!) and in 8 games averaged 13.9/11.4 with an even 3 blocks a contest in only 27 minutes per. So the Jazz called him up, and after only 16 total minutes his first two games, got some big run last night with Derrick Favors out for an 8/6/1/1/3/broke Alexey Shved‘s nose line last night. That’s some solid aggressive play! ”Shot” 4-5 (I think all 4 were dunks) and looked really solid for a terrible Utah team. If he can get 20 minutes per the rest of the year with an emphasis on late-season development time, he could be a sneaky source of blocks in deep leagues. The Americone Dream! Wait, he’s French though… Damn this cold! Here’s what else I saw last night in fantasy hoops:Please, blog, may I have some more?
The period of free agency continues to shape the fantasy basketball-scape with fresh meat on terrible teams and players signing with contenders to be relegated to bench duty. With baseball in full swing and the NFL getting half of the ESPN air time no matter what time of year it is, a lot of NBA moves have been made under the radar. Look for every division to get a team-by-team breakdown and some early fantasy thoughts on the new faces in new places:Please, blog, may I have some more?
The man with a name that would drive King George VI off his throne in fits of anger, Thabo Sefolosha shot 7 of 11 from the field, including 5 of 7 from the perimeter, to accumulate 20 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Please, blog, may I have some more?
Marreese Speights had his fourth straight double digit scoring effort last night with 17 points, adding 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks. It was his best game since the trade that sent him over from Memphis and he could be the answer to the Cavs Anderson Varejao woes (i.e.Please, blog, may I have some more?
It’s not easy being green, especially the green, red and silver of the Bucks. However, as the team battles to retain playoff positioning (never too early to think about that), one interesting name has risen. As frequent commenter Frank brought up the other day, John Henson is being mentioned more and more often. Please, blog, may I have some more?
Surprisingly, Nate Robinson is only 20% owned in Yahoo leagues despite averaging 11 points, 2 threes, 4 assists and 2 steals over the past 2 weeks. Nate The Great has been back on the production chain train (now this next part makes (some) sense), choo-chooing his way to 19 points (3-5 from deep), 5 boards, 6 assists, and 5 steals in 42 minutes last night. Please, blog, may I have some more?
With only 2 points, you may be wondering why I’m leading with Reggie Evans. Well, he grabbed 23 boards last night, including 6 offensive. He doesn’t always do that, and he likely will never come close to that number for the rest of the season, but in deep leagues where you need rebounds, Evans is your guy. Please, blog, may I have some more?
Last night, O.J. Mayo finished with 4 points on 1-7 shooting (1-5 from downtown), with 3 boards, 5 assists, 1 steal, 1 block and 6 turnovers. Before that game, he was averaging 8.8 points per game, down from 19.3 on the season. Please, blog, may I have some more?
On Saturday night, I was in a German shop which sold a variety of imports, from marzipan to steins to cuckoo clocks. As I was eyeballing the clocks on the wall, the shop keeper came up to me to chat. As my companion asked about maintenance of the clocks, he noted that like anything made in Germany, if you take good care of it, it will last a thousand years. Please, blog, may I have some more?
I don’t care who you are, if you are able to get a triple double then you deserve some praise. Well, unless it’s one of those triple doubles with 10 turnovers. Jordan Crawford has been inserted into the starting lineup and has been a plus player in just about every category (not FG%). Last night he went for 27 points, 11 rebounds, 11 assists and a scorching 5 of 10 from behind the arc. Last week I wrote that you should pick him up if you can handle the FG% hit. If he’s still on your wire, stop reading and go pick him up. Even if you can’t take the hit, just pick him up and trade him to someone else. He will be a valuable player this year. Here’s what else happened around the NBA last night:
Devin Harris – Got the start, yay! Played only 14 minutes, boo! 8 points, 1 assist, 1 steal, yuck! Please, blog, may I have some more?
