Don't be shellfish...Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+

I could tell what JB was thinking just from the look in his eyes, or what I could see of them, but he had to verbalize it, “Come on I really don’t want to do this.”  I’m sure he didn’t but a lost bet has consequences.  It was time to go play some 2-on-2 tournament basketball and he looked ready.  He was carrying his basketball in one hand, his sandals in the other, and sporting a bright orange and pink spandex leotard, which can you believe has to be special ordered.  I thought the big and tall store would have a couple to choose from but they don’t.  Anyway where was I, oh yeah, and a matching blindfold with a couple tiny holes poked out.  For safety.  At this point there was no escaping our fate, JB knew that what he wanted was no longer relevant.  When we finally arrived we were ready to ball.  I knew we needed to make an impression so in a show of intimidation I threw my shirt off revealing my shiny black Tom Selleck-esque body fur, pulled my socks up high and tight, and mean mugged those fools as hard as I could.

We couldn’t win any of our 2-on-2 match-ups that day but it wasn’t for a lack of skill, those 12 and 13 year olds are intense.  We just couldn’t match it.  To be fair I couldn’t stop laughing hysterically at JBs awesomeness and it’s not like his jump shot had any chance of falling, which I’m proud to say never stopped him from trying.  Luckily though I made it out with everything intact, except my pride of course.  JB on the other hand took a beating.  Now that I think about it that was probably my fault, I couldn’t stop laughing long enough to let him know when a pick was coming.  My bad… So JB is going to be out a while.  He should have enough time to recover before the next tournament but if someone else can fit into his spandex then I have to keep my options open.  You on the other hand might not be willing or able to wait through some of these player’s injuries.  Still though there are some I like, some I don’t, and some who might fit into JBs spandex and help me take home the title!

Here Are Some I Like

Chris Paul – PG – LAC – A couple of 2 weeks still without him.  I don’t think there’s anything to worry about moving forward.  If you can steal him from an injury riddled owner now’s the time to try.  If he’s already mine, I’m not selling for anything less than full price.

Kemba Walker – PG – Cha – Kemba was never expected to be out long and I would try to get him from an injury plagued owner.  Just like Paul, I’m not selling for less than full price.

Russell Westbrook – PG – OKC – He should be back soon.  If you can get him for a discount now may be your last chance.

Jeff Teague – PG – Atl – Probably a week.  I would definitely go after him as a buy low guy.  If I have him already then I’m going to have to wait it out.

Avery Bradley – PG/SG – Bos – At least 2-3 weeks.  He was probably dropped in your league already.  He’s not worth holding onto.  When he gets back he will have his uses though.

Kawhi Leonard – SG/SF – SAS – We’re a week into 3-4 weeks.  There’s alot of categories Kawhi helps but ultimately in a 12-teamer and less his stats are nearly replaceable.  I would go after him in a trade but only if I felt good about getting into the playoffs.  I would try to hold on to him if he were already on my team but if I’m on the outside the playoffs looking in then he can be dropped.

Rudy Gay – SF/PF – Sac – Shouldn’t be out much longer.  Should be fine.  If you can get him at a good price then I think you’ll have done well.

DeMarcus Cousins – PF/C – Sac – No timetable or anything but I imagine no less than a week and it could be a couple of weeks until he’s really back.  It’s going to take some cajones to go after him in a trade but you’ll probably be rewarded.  If he’s mine then I’m holding on tight.

Nikola Pekovic – C – Min – They say a week but it could be longer, apparently he’s been playing through it.  I’m no doctor but I hear that’s not how things heal.  I would take him in a trade but remember he doesn’t do much for steals or blocks.  If I already have him then I would wait it out.

Here Are Some I Don’t

Jrue Holiday – PG – NOP – I know, we all love Ja-Rue but lets face facts, it’s going to be a while. If I’m guaranteed into the playoffs I might go after him but I would want a significant discount.  If I’ve got him and I’m not guaranteed into the playoffs then he needs to go.  I would rather have the worst playoff team than the best non-playoff team.

Eric Bledsoe – PG/SG – Pho – All we know is ‘multi-week’ and ‘hopeful to return’.  Those are bad signs.  I’m not trading for him in any 12-teamer scenerio.  If I have him and I know I’m in to the playoffs then I might hold.  If I think I can take a 1st round bye then Bledsoe can probably go.

Kobe Bryant – SG/SF – LAL – Do you think he’s playing again this year?  The question alone makes him worth very little at this point.  He can safely be dropped and forgotten.

Danny Green – SG/SF – SAS – How good was he before he got hurt?  Are you really still holding on?  He’s owned in 45% of leagues on Yahoo.  That’s too much when he was playing.

Nikola Vucevic – PF/C – Orl – No one knows when Vucevic will be ready to go and I would be very concerned at this point.  If I were guaranteed into the playoffs I would go after him but I would not be willing to lose much.  If I already had Vucevic I would be trying to sell him for as close to full price as I can and probably take 3/4 or less.  If I’m in any way unsure of the playoffs then I’d let him walk.

Here Are Some That Can Try On JBs Spandex

Derrick Rose – PG – Chi – Done.

Steve Nash – PG – LAL – What can we really hope for?  20 minutes.

Al Horford – PF/C – Atl – Done.

Amar’e Stoudemire – PF/C – NYK – He has proven to us that he can’t play any more than 20 minutes and stay healthy.  I’m done.

Andrea Bargnani – PF/C – NYK – Done.

Andrew Bynum – C – ? – Does he even want to play basketball?

Brook Lopez – C – Brk – Done.

Ryan Anderson - PF/C – NOP – Done. Really he is.

Update: I know Rudy Gay and Vucevic played last night. A day late on Rudy Gay and I’m still concerned about Vucevic. He didn’t just have to go through concussion protocol. He was confined to a dark room for 4 days. If I could get a comparable player I would make the switch.

    Hey man
Wonding what you thought of my trade in the REL league

    I.thomas2 for Jeff t and t. Harris?

I only plan on keeping Davis/Ricky and lee for keepers
Thinking Jeff and Harris could help my playoff chances more stats total if all goes well
    Even if Thomas is hot

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Moes: Alright. I talked to JB a bit about it so here’s the long version. Deep breath… I think your top 6 guys come to $220 something. There’s no need to think about who your keepers are at this point and the 2 guys you got are still real young. There’s so much going on in a trade like this in this league.

Thomas at $14 is one of the best values in the league, he turns 25 in a week and should give top 25 stats for several years. It must have been brutal to let him go.
Teague at $37 is an average price for a number 1 PG in this league. He’ll be 26 to start next year and could very well be in for a career year. Is he a number 1 PG though?
Tobias at $27 doesn’t feel outlandish at all especially since he’ll start the year at only 22. I was the one bidding him up though so maybe I’m alone in this thinking. Would I have been happy with a $26 Tobias? Without the 3s/stl/blk, I don’t know.

So now your team. The Brow at $73, who makes life so difficult, he’s great and all but that’s a lot of $. Ricky at $44 feels a little high. He’s still young enough to fill that out. DLee has been a nice fantasy player for a long time. Soon to turn 31 though, $22 is a reasonable price. Tough call. DeRozan is ok at $20. Don’t love his fantasy game but in this league high end in one or 2 categories is more useful than normal. How you work your keepers will be very interesting for everyone in the league. I’m interested in both Teague and Tobias. What you thinkin? Really though, this is the classic real life GM scenario of, ‘I can’t keep everyone so I should get something before I get left with nothing.’

For this year. It’s obvious. You got a ton better and I assume you are now the favorite to win. Your injuries are minor and your depth is greatly improved whenever you can just drop your worst player. But… and it’s a big one. Your future took a major hit. What that’s going to shape up to be won’t be decided until the trade deadline passes and you have a ton of assets.

        @Slim:

        Thx!
I want to go out swinging this season.. give it my best without giving up Davis/Ricky/Lee -

those 3 d00ds are 139.. lee/davis/rick..I might consider keeping DeRozan if he keeps lighting it up with the points.. I like how he’s grown and he wants it bad! loves the game.. guys like that get better and it shows.. he’s improved so much. i see lowry/DRoz staying.. they should ship out lowry/Ross( hell even johnson that d00d has never been super consisent) yet he seems like a nice guy LOL but yeah ship those guys out like tomorrow imp.

I don’t plan on keeping harris or jeff and i like thomas.. he should be good to go for a long time but.. Im not sold on that team..or couins… or gay.. who knows whats up there!

yet like you said IT2′s contract is money.. its a little hit next season but now this makes my descion on keeping IT2 or DeRozan easy because like i said I want to keep my “keepers” low

I do decent at drafts and ill look for some young guys..I can make up IT2 hit next season with a good draft…
so anyone can go but if u want one of my top 3/4 keepers ill need to get someoen back I really like…

heck if DeRozan comes back strong i might sell him and jeff/harris for depth if possible.. Im playing to win this season while risking next season.. yet if i play my cards right I should be okay.

ps I lost last week only because I missed a day because of net problems.. salmons would of put me over in 3′s( didnt add up the rest but at the very least it would of been Tie) darn it ;/-

        • moez says:
          (link)

@moez: might sound odd on who i plan on keeping but I rather have the flow( money) there will be some prime targets next draft.. being rooks and other!

          • Slim

            Slim says:
            (link)

@moez: I concur greatly about next years draft. I’m hoping to have no less than $50 to spend if I keep, ‘everyone’. That’s doubtful though, I want more $ and I have a couple of guys who should come cheaper next year. I do have a kind of core group of 6 that my team is made up of that I don’t want to trade. Value and age and all that.

I have all kinds of guys who fit your win now profile. Someone at nearly every position. Duncan is probably my headliner for win now mode which actually I don’t know if I really should be doing… Either way I’m not shy about trading. You have all kinds of good players, good value, no surprise your a playoff team.

  3. Nate says:
    (link)

Do you think giving Lillard and Ibaka for CP3 is overpaying?

I have Lillard, IT2, Oladipo, Bledsoe, Leonard, Hayward, Gerald Green, Jimmy Butler, Meeks, Ibaka, Vucevic, Ibaka, and Sullinger.

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Nate: Yeah that’s too much. I’m assuming the 2nd Ibaka is someone else but still a PF/C. Unless he’s a monster shot blocker you can’t afford to lose Ibaka. Even still I wouldn’t be looking to trade him with only 4 PF/C eligible guys and Sullinger still a question mark. I would be looking to improve boards and blocks before assists and steals which can’t be that bad. Green feels a little redundant. You have to be killer in 3s and in turn FG% is rarely winnable. Although with Hayward and Butler you might be punting that all together anyway. If you aren’t sure of the playoffs then holding Leonard and Bledsoe could cost you dearly. So yeah, I think move a wing or 2 for another big and that’s it. Well, also I would try to move Bledsoe for a solid/reliable PG, either by trade or free agency. I would take Augustin straight up for example.

hey Slim – would it be worth it/advisable to go after Teague with an Ersan & p.bev offer?

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@SheriffMcRawDawg: Yeah I would do that for sure. The Bucks are about to get crowded again and PBev has proven very little. I actually think that’s a really low offer if the free agent list is solid but it’s a perfectly reasonable place to start.

      • SheriffMcRawDawg says:
        (link)

        @Slim: I guess that’s what I meant. I’m pretty sure I overvalue P.Bev too. thanks, as always

        • Slim

          Slim says:
          (link)

@SheriffMcRawDawg: Beverley is such a good real life player it’s difficult to imagine it doesn’t translate to fantasy. But I guess that’s where we’re at. While I’m always a sucker for some upside I’ve found it’s worth very little in a trade. Although that goes both ways so it has it’s advantages too.

          • SheriffMcRawDawg says:
            (link)

@Slim: this is true.. was able to get Henson earlier to Tristan. but it’s like c’mon – Ilyasova’s got to seem useful to somebody right?!

Any thoughts on Dwyane Wade? He’s not technically injured, but, ugh…

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@mike: Unfortunately everyone in your league probably feels the same way. I would try to get whatever I could for him at this point. I’d aim for a top 50 player but I would settle for a top 100 guy that fills a need.

  6. fitz says:

I just traded DJ August and Jordan Crawford for Rondo

Worth the risk? Or did I get suckered because I’m a C’s fan.

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@fitz: Crawford is barely playable with only 15 minutes so unless your in a very deep league he can go. There is certainly some give and take between DJ and Rondo. If points and 3s, I would take Augustin. For assists and steals Rondo has been the guy in the past. Since assists and steals are much more difficult to find then I’m OK with the risk Rondo presents.

      • fitz says:

@Slim: Sorry, I meant Jamal Crawford!

  7. steve says:

hey, just got offered a trade,
I get g. monroe and t. thompson for duncan and middleton in a 12 team h2h keeper league,
Im currently in 10th place with cp3, rose, horford and ginobli on my ir, so the playoffs might be a long shot.
    What do you think?

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@steve: I have long been known for my dislike of Tristan Thompsons game and to be perfectly honest I think Middleton has a brighter fantasy future. More importantly though how many can you keep? If only a few then non of these guys are going to be kept. Sounds like you have a ways to go to make the playoffs and selling Duncan is probably a good idea. Monroe is an OK get and if you could swap out Tristan for something else and assuming these 2 are both going to be kept then I’m good with it. If non of these guys are going to be keepers then I would stick with what you have, right now it’s much better, or try to find a better deal.

  8. SteveV says:
    (link)

What do you think is Collison’s value once Paul comes back? Droppable at that point?

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@SteveV: In a 12-teamer or less I don’t think he’s going to be ownable. It’s going to be way too crowded with Redick and Jamal Crawford. 15-20 plus blowout minutes is my best guess.

  9. Sio says:
    (link)

Which side do you like better? Dwill+rjax or ellis+sessions?

Also would you drop AFA for the virgin in a 9 cat h2h 12 teamer with nate’s acl news?

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Sio: I think Sessions run is finished. I think he’s going to go back to 15-20 minutes and be unownable in a 12-teamer. Ellis is probably the best player and Deron Williams really can’t be trusted to stay healthy. But still I’d take the DWill side. Reggie is no slouch. I’m a really big fan of Fournier but Aminu has a much more defined role. If I needed what Aminu was giving I’d hold on but he’s by no means a must hold and I would have no issue adding Fournier and seeing how it plays out. Remember Foye is still around and is probably going to be the biggest benefactor. If I knew Fournier and Aminu would see equal minutes I’d take Fournier.

      • Sio says:
        (link)

@Slim: thanks slim! I’m pretty much set with fg% rebs and blks so i can give up aminu. What categories do you will fournier help with better than aminu? I’m hurting with my ft% and to.

        • Slim

          Slim says:
          (link)

          @Sio: With 30 min I’m thinking Fournier could give…

          .450/.760/2.0/15.0/4.0/3.0/1.0/0.1/2.0

I’m not sure he’s going to be a big help to FTs and TOs unfortunately. More of a jack of all trades kind of player. Steals should be better. He hasn’t shown it yet this year though. 1.6 per-36 last year though. Aminu is a low TO guy but also a bad FT shooter, all be it on low volume. With boards covered Aminu really isn’t that helpful.

          • Sio says:
            (link)

@Slim: your projections havent been off yet so i guess i’ll stick with aminu for now. Thanks man!

Not sure who to add, will be dropping Collison soon and should I drop James Johnson?

Fournier worth an add for J. Johnson? Or maybe one of these guys: Beverley, Tucker, Williams, Aminu

    • Larry says:
      (link)

@Larry: I’m looking for Reb, BLK and FT, was supposed to punt 3s but maybe I can compete there (hence Fournier and/or Beverley), I have Pierce, CP3, Rubio, and Millsap to contribute in 3s. H2h 20 team 8-players

      • Slim

        Slim says:
        (link)

@Larry: Non of those mentioned are decent shot blockers and the ones who help boards hurt FTs. Hmm…. I still like Fournier for the glorious upside.

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Larry: James Johnson’s run looks done. 15 min just isn’t enough. I like adding Fournier and seeing how it shapes up in Denver. I gave a 30 min projection in the comment just about yours I’m just not entirely sure 30 minutes is going to happen. I’m a big fan of Beverley but he defers far too much. Tucker is solid for boards and a few random other stats but his ceiling is pretty low. Derrick Williams, Lou, Marvin, Mo? I’m passing on all of them. Aminu is solid if you need boards with some FG% without hurting TOs but again he’s a low ceiling guy. I would add Fournier for Johnson and see what happens. I’d ride Collison till Paul comes back and then add Beverley probably or whoever is the best available at the time.

    Veto or not?

As the commish, I hate to veto, but this one stinks to me…

    14 team H2H(Not a keeper)

Team A Gets: Deron Williams & Tyson Chandler

Team B gets: Trey Burke, Terrence Ross & Avery Bradley (Ross & Bradley are on & off the waiver wire every week)

Your thoughts? iu like to get an opinion from outside the league to make these decisions…Thanks!!

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Don Majkowski: Nah I’m good with that trade. I’m not sure which side you like but I like the Burke side. I have zero trust in Deron making it through the year and I would take Burke 1-fer-1. Also, I think Chandler is pretty over rated. I think he’s only a borderline top 100 player. I like Ross quite a bit and with Bradley I think it’s a completely reasonable offer. If you think Deron is a top 5 PG then it looks pretty bad but personally I don’t think he’s even a top 20 PG.

Hello Slim. Kwahi Leonard was dropped and I may have a chance to pick him up. Would you drop him for any of the following in a 9 cat 12 team league:

    MCW
    G. Dragic
    Monta Ellis
    J.J. Redick
    Dj Augustin
    I. THomas
    Kemba Walker
    T. Ariza
    L. Sanders
    A. Davis
    D. Howard
    A. Jefferson
    Andre Drummond

I know I’ve included some obvious names on the list, but K. Leonard is a big name too.
    Thanks,

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@peanutbutterjellytime: Let me start by saying… Amazing team and always the more information the better. You have got to be doing well. Lets see, to me this looks like a 3 way tie between Redicks 3s, Kawhis Steals, and Sanders Blocks. The 5th great big and the 5th great PG all put the nail in the coffin for most of those stats. With 5 guys not shooting 3s it makes dropping Redick, your best 3 PTM guy, difficult. Your steals aren’t an issue at all and dropping Sanders leaves a noticeable hole. I’m going to have to say no to Kawhi Leonard.

    Hi Slim Shady,

I was looking to get some advice on my team, I feel like I’m not quite there yet in terms of having a team I think can win it all.

    Curry
    Irving
    Lillard
    Conley
    Kawhi
    Parsons
    Thaddeus
    Ersan
    Frye
    Tyson
    Al jeff
    Cousins
    G hill (semi streamer)

Do you think I should look to upgrade anybody? 10 team 9 cat h2h league.

    • Slim

@Teama: The only thing I see is that your lacking in bigs a little. Boards and Blocks could use a little upgrade. I think your top 4 PGs are plenty and Hill is pretty boring. If he was a PF/C I think you would be a little more well rounded.
