Before this playoff roster post gets too out of control I have a few things to say that will hopefully help to put things into perspective.  Like how this is based off of daily roster changes, 9-cat, H2H, you know, like the RCLs.  First off, everyone’s playoff needs are entirely dependent on the makeup of their roster.  It should be noted that this isn’t just about maximizing games, it’s also about helping to make up for our deficiencies.  For example, If I had Chris Paul on my team then I’m only going to get 2 games in the first round.  If I want to win let’s say assists,  then I need to stream accordingly.  Second, I’m going to use the saying, “heavy day”.  While trying my hardest to avoid the feminine hygiene jokes I will be referring to whether or not that days NBA schedule has a lot of teams playing or just a few.  This is important because on most heavy days you usually won’t need to stream a player or you may have a player you won’t get much from.  For instance Boston plays Mon, Wed, Fri next week and Wed, Fri, Sun the following week.  Wed and Fri are always heavy days and depending on the rest of your roster you may only get 1 game each week from say… Jerryd Bayless.  That would make him just about useless.  Third, I’m going to use 3-letter abbreviations for teams and days of the week.  Otherwise this would get far too unwieldy to read and I would have to learn how to spell all of those cities.  That’s not going to happen, isn’t learning the names of players enough?

Round 1 – March 17th – 23rd

2-game week – LAC

3-game week – SAS, Por, LAL, OKC, NYK, Min, NOP, Mem, Hou, Mil, GSW, Det, Uta, Bos, Sac, Cha

4-game week – Was, Cle, Tor, Mia, Orl, Atl, Dal, Ind, Brk, Phi, Phx, Chi, Den

As alluded to earlier, the first thing I notice about the first round is that the LAC only play twice and secondly no one plays 5 games. Wed and Fri each have 10 games, while these are considered heavy days there’s still a good chance you will have an open active roster spot.  Going into this week Atl is the only team that plays Mon and Tue.  DeMarre Carroll should be universally owned while Pero Antic should make for a nice 2-game start too.  No one plays 3 games in the first 4 days while Was does play 3 in 4 days starting on Tue.  Unfortunately I don’t know if there’s anyone widely available that can be trusted.  Tor, Mia, and Orl are the only Tue, Wed teams.  Mia makes for a nice play with 4 games in 5 days but Mario Chalmers may be the only player who’s available that’s worth trying.  Tor plays 3 games in 4 days and I fully endorse Terrence Ross in that time.  Only Min plays Wed and Thur and Corey Brewer could be a solid follow up to those who started with a player from Atl.  Was and OKC play Thur, Fri.  I can’t suggest to you anyone who’s under 50% owned from either of these teams right now but there’s a good chance Caron Butler will be playing 30 minutes by then.

For Fri, Sat, Sun, the teams that only play one game are LAC, Por, OKC, Min, Hou, Mil, GSW, Uta, Bos, Cha. 7 teams play Fri and Sat: Mia, SAS, Ind, NOH, Mem, Phi, and Det.  Only Cle and Orl play Sat, Sun.  I will give more on streaming out the win next Thursday March 20th.

Round 2 – March 24th – 30th

2-game week – GSW

3-game week – Was, Orl, Dal, Hou, Phi, Mil, Bos, Chi, Sac, Den, Cha

4-game week – Cle, Tor, Mia, Atl, LAC, SAS, LAL, OKC, Ind, Brk, NYK, Min, NOP, Mem, Det, Uta, Phx

5-game week – Por

Before I made my rankings at the start of the year I was mapping out the playoff schedules.  Where I would then ranked players would go up and down somewhat based on those schedules.  GSW plays only 2 times this week and because of that I don’t own a single one anywhere.  Por gets a 5-game week in what I’m considering the semifinals and I have 1 or 2 from that team on every one of my teams.  Mon, Wed, and Fri are heavy days with 10, 10, and 12 games respectively.  Mon and Tue games are only played by Por and OKC.  Outside of the starting 5, I can’t endorse anyone on Por.  Caron Butler would be my goto guy then for the start of the semis.  Atl, LAC, and of course Por all play 3 games in the first 4 days of the week.  That’s the second mention for Atl and I think they have one of the better overall schedules.  I don’t think Darren Collison will be reliable by now but if Jamal Crawford has another setback then Collison would make a good play.  Matt Barnes may also be available because of the LAC 2-game 1st round.  Tue, Wed are occupied by Cle, Tor, and the NYK.  Once again Terrence Ross is a good play, maybe Raymond Felton or Dion Waiters if they’re available.  That’s the second mention for Tor, they are another team with a good playoff schedule.  Those 3 teams along with Por and LAL play 3 games in 4 days starting on Tue.  There’s 4 or 5 Lakers to choose from but I’m kind of banking on Ryan Kelly given the way he’s played recently but who knows?  If you think you will need assists then maybe Kendall Marshall is for you.  Wed and Thurs are only played by Atl and LAC while Thur and Fri are only played by Por and LAL.

For this Fri, Sat, Sun it looks like Atl, LAC, Dal, Hou, Phi, Mil, Den, and Cha play only once.  Fri, Sat are played by Was, Mia, SAS, NOP, and Det.  Sadly no one plays Sat, Sun.  More on this Thursday March 27th.

Round 3 – March 31st – April 6th

3-game week – Cle, Orl, Por, OKC, Uta, Phx

4-game week – Was, Tor, Mia, Atl, LAC, SAS, Dal, LAL, Ind, Brk, NYK, Min, NOP, Mem, Hou, Phi, Mil, GSW, Det, Bos, Chi, Den, Cha

It’s difficult to know who will still be helpful by now or if someone better has stepped up so I don’t have much to say just yet.  Don’t worry, I will.  However with so many teams playing 4 games the options should be plentiful.  My Jerry Springer style final thought is this, “You can’t win 1st place if can’t first get through the early rounds.  If a guy isn’t going to help you right now then honey, you need to kick him to the curb!”  I done hearrrrd that!  I give that final thought 2-snaps with a twirl.  Hallelujah it’s finally time to go out there and win us a championship and by golly that’s right, it’s raining men.

Oh Yeah I’ve been thinking about this all week! Hahaha very helpful. I think i might stash Marshall for the last 2 weeks. Good idea? I think I can beat the 2 teams I think Im gonna have to play, in assists. I’m gonna bookmark this for reference for the next few weeks.

    • Slim

@The Tristan Thompson Conundrum: In a daily league i’d just plan to stream Marshall for the first 3 games of the 2nd week then someone else Fri and Sat if you have the open spots then the best Sun guy with hopefully the added benefit of a Mon game. Thats 6 games with only 2 moves. Do that with 2 roster spots and good luck catching you in the counting stats if those are your worst 2 players. With the Lakers being the team there should be multiple options out there for every league.

Awesome post… When did you start working in this? The all-star break? Agree with the conundrum, great bookmark. What about those leagues who play that crazy last nine-day “week”?

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Tim: The first thing I do when I start doing rankings for a season is organize the playoff schedules. Its not the end all be all but if I’m 50-50 on draft day then im taking the guy with a good playoff schedule. I’ll try to come up with something for the last week and a half. Predicting who gets benched when will be impossible. For a league like that I would say the least amount of real life playoff bound players the better.

Unreal post! Gonna be helpful for sure, I’ll be back on this page countless times as I think of a new “genius” plan to stream a few spots!

Just one question, when you do your Thursday posts, will you be covering the next week? I have the bye for the first week, so I’m curious when I should start preparing hahaha!

Thanks again slim, you and JB have been the backbone of my team this year. I’d draft you guys ahead of KD!

Ok maybe not. I’d have to get the first pick first….. “Random” my ass yahoo!

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Wutang: Ahh… I soak in the praise. Oh and I haven’t had the pleasure of drafting Durant either. Not a once.

I would make my best guess add this week. Your number of moves now are very limiting so you may need them in case of an emergency next week. It also means you can gamble a bit on upside since barring that emergency you should have plenty of moves during your bye. The next post will cover the weekend for those needing a first round miracle but I’ll also mention any early, following week, changes. The teams will be the same though. There’s a million different ‘genious’ plans possible out there. Hopefully there’s more than just one that works for you.

  4. TR says:

Would you drop Matt Barnes for Demarre? I also have Paul and Griffin so 3 clippers next week could hurt me

    • TR says:
      (link)

@TR: or Terrence Ross over Carrol

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@TR: Carroll has shown far more consistency and they’re playoff schedules are nearly identical. They being Terrence Ross. They give similar type stat lines so yeah, I would choose Carroll. As for Barnes, there is no way he will outproduce Carroll in 2 games compared to DeMarre’s 4. No chance.

Mate great write-up! Interesting to see how Demarre continues with a strong Millsap back.

Wonder if you could weigh in on this trade of mine. Im in need of boards and am close to dealing my KD and Taj for LBJ and DJ. Sound good to you. Have taken schedules into account also

As far as dub dub boarders are concerned, I just picked up Hump and he gave me a nice 5 O brd game yesterday. Do I stick with him or go for someone like Amir, O’Quinn ROS? Cant be bothered with any of those bucks, as much as I love Henson and Adrien.

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Lasandro: The trade looks ok but you realize you could be punting FTs at any time by adding DeAndre Jordan. If thats not a problem and the schedules look good then its OK. Not a big gain.

Amir over all of them by a long shot. Both in quality of play and schedules. Amir should be owned everywhere now that it looks like hes over his ankle injury finally.

      • Lasandro says:
        (link)

@Slim: But what of PPat’s return in the coming week? They’ve been at a timeshare at the 4 over in Toronto. Not a concern to you?

        • Slim

          Slim says:
          (link)

@Lasandro: Nah not really. Amir played some center when Pat² was healthy and I think that will continue. Even if Patterson gets 30 minutes I think Amir will still get his 30 too as Valanciunas only gets about 20.

      • Lasandro says:
        (link)

@slim: what do you make of a Westbrook and Noah for KD and taj deal?

        • Slim

          Slim says:
          (link)

@Lasandro: Schedules are obviously the same. Noah is pretty much the number 2 center in my eyes, The Brow is number 1. I’m trying to convince myself Durant is worth more but I don’t know. That’s a really good haul. I think I’d take Westbrook/Noah.

What about this weekend streamers like usual ?

    :(

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@6th place and fighting: Dang it, I let you down. Here’s a couple of guys I’m streaming this weekend.

The only team playing Sat.Sun is the Bucks. Adrien could still give you a 20/20/2/2/2 weekend or if you were looking for 3s and steals then Middleton should be able to give 3-4 of each over the weekend. Digging for assists? Sessions has been playing 25ish minutes for a while and could give a 10 assist weekend while chipping in in a few other categories.

If you were looking at Sun.Mon games, to finish out the week and start next week strong, then I like Pheonix. @Tor, @Bkn look like real good match-ups. Tucker and Markief Morris probably make for the best, most widely available adds but Marcus Morris is playing well also and doesn’t tend to hurt us anywhere. Utah, Alec Burks, also plays Sun.Mon but @SAS and @Hou is probably better off just avoiding.

      • 6th place and fighting says:
        (link)

        @Slim:

        Awesome. Thanks man.
I actually went into the shark tank that you operate out of and did a lot of the research and searching you probably do every week. Ended up scooped up Douglas-Roberts and Diaw last night for two games this weekend adding threes and some multicat stats.

Had to drop Beverly and Gibson for it. Dropping Quinn for Adrien today.
Solid players but have to win this week to hopefully make the playoffs.

You rock and keep it up Slim!

          @6th place and fighting:

I have middle already from last weeks post you had.

  8. Joe says:
    (link)

I posted this Q on today’s thread of JB, but since Slim is the King of the Pickens, maybe he can help a brother out. I sort of apologize for the length; I can’t help making annotations!

    12-team, 9-cat, H2H non keeper.
Team is: Lillard, IT2, Knight, Tyreke, J.Green, Carroll, Gibson, D.Lee, Ibaka, M.Gasol, Sullinger.

I am likely going to drop Sullinger because he’s sharing minutes with Humphries and Olynk (but I can be swayed). I may drop Gibson as well; his last three games just didn’t cut it.

I’m in a heated battle for 2nd in this, our final week of the regular season. 2nd place gets a bye. But I also have a mind toward the playoffs (mostly weeks 1 and 2, depending on whether I get a bye)

If I am to drop Sullinger and/or Gibson, I could add:

George Hill – Plays today and Saturday, has a great playoff schedule, but has been a bit meh.

James Anderson – Plays today and Saturday but against Pacers and Grizzlies. Has been playing very well lately. Has a good playoff schedule but goes against the Pacers and Bulls next week.

Corey Brewer – Ok first week schedule but gets better (3-4-4). Has been solid but not spectacular.

Luol Deng – Better this past week but he’s clearly out of sorts in CLE. Plays 3-4-4

Kyle O’Quinn – Getting the starts now. 4 games next week but overall a poor playoff schedule (3-4-3 I think)

Pero Antic – Not the king of rebounds, but solid playoff schedule.

Ryan Kelly – looking good, 3-4-4 playoff schedule though, and only one more game this week (today)

Jordan Farmar – See Kelly, Ryan above

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Joe: I like going for the bye pretty much as best as you can and this decision is completely based on that.

If you can get the bye then I like Kelly and Brewer for the 2nd round. I think your team is a little shy on steals with Lillard and Knight being low end for guards. I’m picking Brewer over Deng and seeing it as boards vs steals. I’ve got O’Quinn down for 4/3/3 which really hurts if you do get the bye. Antic is a streamer and I like him for those purposes only. Farmar I do not trust. GHill has a solid schedule but he doesn’t do much, he’s not really an assist guy and he’s a low end steals guy. I do like Anderson some but you can really only rely on him for 3s and points and a 3-game 2nd round isn’t exactly ideal, although it is mostly on short days if don’t have the room for someone like Brewer who plays on heavy days.

OK now I would drop Sullinger, I never really bought in and I don’t see him separating himself from the pack. Kelly is my add but only after capturing the bye. If you miss out on these guys while going for the bye you should be fine. I see a few spots worthy of streaming and really that’s what wins this time of year so it’s a good thing.

  9. Zar says:
    (link)

    Hey Slim,

So JV looks like he’s falling down everyone’s rankings. Should I drop him for Kanter? As far as I can tell, Kanter only has two less games than JV in the playoffs.

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Zar: Yeah I would take 3 games from Kanter right now over 4 from Jonas. Maybe if I trusted 2 blocks a game from Jonas I’d be tempted but I don’t trust him in his 20-25 minute role. If/When Patterson returns I don’t see how it could get better.

  10. Frank White says:
    (link)

Sup Slim… So it’s a close week in Cat’s for me and I was thinking about picking up Chris Anderson cause I would like to stay on top of blocks, ft% and low to’s. On the other hand I’m up in points by only 5 and down in assists by 8.. I have 4 out of 9 cats but that’s all I need to keep my buy week so I figured instead of reading and trying to win cats maybe it would be better to keep up the cats I’m winning.. What do you think, Chris Anderson for tomorrow or maybe Tucker for points a little boards and steals? But in down by 8 steals and up 20 boards. We both have the same amount of players going today and tomorrow. If not Chris then woo for tomorrow you think?? Thanks and sorry if confusing I wrote on the phone. Lol

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Frank White: If all you need to do is shore up a few categories to get the bye then I would go that route. Birdman might give a couple of blocks. Low TOs and rarely a FT attempt. Unlike Tucker who doesn’t hit any of those 3 categories.

  11. Frank White says:
    (link)

Also, Kent Bazemore is on the wire now and I know Nick Young is back but It says that Nick’s gonna be eased in. Is Bazemore Still gonna be a beast concidering how well he’s been playing??

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Frank White: Nah, Bazemore’s stock appears to be headed in the wrong direction. I don’t mind him as a streamer in the right situation but that’s about it.

  12. hey Slim would you start Antic over Pek this week – considering his ankle injury now?

    thanks

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Sheriff McRawDawg: Can’t play Pekovic. It sucks but he might not see the floor this week. His ankle injury is pretty bad and he might have come back too early. The risk vs reward just isn’t there.

  13. Frank White says:

Sup Slim… Just wanted to thank you for all your help , SO FAR!!, LOL .. I got the buy week this week!! Also good looks putting the teams schedules up.. Big Help for everyone!

    • Slim

@Frank White: Nice. You’re very welcome. Have you started your preparations for next week yet? I like Caron Butler for Mon, Tue or maybe Matt Barnes for Mon, Wed, Thur if someone releases him with this short week for the Clippers.

  14. Frank White says:
    (link)

Well I have an open spot cause I picked up Chris Anderson for Sunday but I’m thinking about picking up Livingston for now so no one can grab him. I got 4 pickups in my buy week so if he doesn’t work out I can always change.
    Conley
    Alec Burks
    Teague
    Foye
    Jameer Nelson
    Wesley Matthews
    Mello
    Livingston
    Ariza
    Taj
    Bogut
    Marc Gasol
    Paul Millsap
    Tyson
It’s great cause a majority of my best pl;ayers are playing 4 times next week, 2- NYK’s, 2- MEM, 2- ATL, UTA, BRK and Wesley plays 5.. My whole team played it’s WORST last week so I’m worried but last night some killed it. What do you think?? I hope Bogut isn’t hurt and Tyson comes back from personal issues again
