Don't be shellfish...Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+

I would like to get your opinion on something.  It’s been bothering JB and I to the point that we finally made a friendly wager on it.  By friendly I don’t mean without a consequence.  If somehow I’m wrong I have to finally teach JB how to play, I’m Blue, with a didgeridoo.  In public I laugh at him for liking that song but between you and me…  That’s my Jam!  There’s a reason he knows I can teach it to him.  But that’s not important cause he’s not going to win our bet.  When I win he’s going to finally teach me the one true Carolina secret.  I’m going to finally learn how much vinegar it takes to ruin otherwise perfect BBQ.  You would think if you just pour a bottle of vinegar in with the sauce you would be done.  Oh no, It’s far more complicated than that.  The trick is that perfect amount to lure them in just enough to try a bite because as the old southern adage goes, “The first time you taste Nort Carlina BBQ, will also be the second.”   I trust you can now see the urgency by which we need this settled.  It really is a simple question.  I’m surprised we’ve had such heated debates.  OK, so assuming Bigfoot is real.  Obviously that isn’t exactly a stretch of the imagination.  Would seeing him in the wild be enough to convince you to just give up your lifes work as a cryptozoologist?  I know right!  Wouldn’t it just further the drive to explore every fuzzy photoshopped picture that gets posted in a random message board?  I’ll let that sink in for sec, until you realize just how long you’ve actually spent thinking about it.

Since I have no doubt that is now settled and I will soon know the Carolina secret I can queue up more questions of quantity.  I’m hoping I can soon solve the age old mystery of would only one alien mothership really be enough to conquer earth?  I scoff at alien invaders, Pfaff. That’s the sound I make when I scoff and when I sew.  Or how about if Nessie was caught, fried, and if I ate nothing else for 6 weeks would I be getting enough vitamin B-12 in my diet?  But the answer to that is for my cryptozoologist weekly post.  It’s over at IWishRichardJeffersonWasACryptid.Org.  It’s a nonprofit.  I think we’re down for maintenance though, sorry about that.  Since Razzball never goes down I’m going to write here instead.  Here’s a few players where the question is, are they getting enough?  Umm… Minutes, not vitamin B-12.

Marcus Morris – PF – Pho – Constantly referred to as ‘the other Morris twin’ Marcus has started making headway as a consistent bench option for the Suns.  At only 6% owned he somehow qualifies here.  6%?  His per game ranking is about 100 in only 23 minutes.  His stats are just like his brothers but with an extra 3 PTM per game.  Markieff Morris is 39% owned with an extra 3 minutes per game of playing time.  Does Markieff own 33% of the leagues on Yahoo and added himself but not his brother?  I guess I have more faith in Marcus than his own brother.  If your in one of these leagues where Markieff added himself but not his brother then please add Marcus and defeat his brother with the extra 3 pointer per game.  There is no question the 23 minutes Marcus is currently getting makes him playable in 12 team leagues.  With a good chance for more playing time as the year progresses Marcus is worth rostering in most leagues.

Jeremy Lamb – SG/SF – OKC – For Jeremy Lamb the talk has always been about potential.  After struggling at times as a freshman at UConn, Jeremy had a sophomore year that showed across the board improvements.  Enough improvement that he was drafted 12th overall by Houston a few months after his 20th birthday.  A few months later Lamb was traded to OKC as part of the James Harden deal but couldn’t crack his new teams rotation.  With half the year spent in the DLeague Jeremy was able to get consistent playing time and he played well scoring 21 PPG on 49% shooting.  Now in his 2nd year as a  professional and at the ripe old age of 21, Lamb’s potential is becoming realized.  At only 20 minutes per game, Lamb is just outside a 12-team leagues value, currently ranked around 150.  Why can’t he get more minutes if he’s playing so well?  The problem is the logjam for minutes on a team as deep as OKC and it would take multiple injuries for Lamb to get significantly more playing time.  I do not see that happening this year.  If 20 minutes per game it is then is that enough?  As a streaming option in even 12 team leagues Jeremy Lamb can help with 3’s and points, with a good chance for a steal and a block in 2 games.

Tim Hardaway Jr – SG – NYK – My favorite player to comment about.  I wrote about him here earlier in the year.  The difference between then and now is that he is playing better than I anticipated.  With 30 minutes his 3’s and points would be a big asset to both the Knicks and our fantasy teams.  He’s even shown some steals and blocks recently.  Alas 30 minutes per game still isn’t happening.  Is 20 minutes enough for our teams?  Only in 16 team leagues and larger is he worth rostering.  The problem is that he hasn’t shown consistent multi-cat production like Lamb has.  If there is a change and Hardaway plays 30+ minutes consistently then I believe he will be a good option in a 12 team leagues.  When?  I thought it would have happened by now so I’m not feeling too confident about that prediction.  As I look into my crystal ball it is becoming clearer.  I see know.  Yeah sorry, it’s saying last week too.  I still have Miss Cleo on speed dial.  It’s busy, I’m going to have to get back to you.

Aye, Been trying to improve this team to no avail. Need your help for some trade offers I could send. Whatchu think about this deep , 14 teamer (h2h, standard cats)

PG: J. Wall, Mike Conley, Knight, Patrick Beverly
    SG: Waiters, Burks, Reggie Jackson
    SF: Kevin Durant
    PF: Ibaka, Henson, Jason Smith
    C: Gortat, R. Lopez

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Pavel: I’m trying to find a hole in your team and I really can’t. Who you go after depends on who you think is available. I’d target a team that has several good PF/C guys and go for one. Jackson and Burks perceived value is pretty high right now so one of them plus one of your PFs or Cs for a better PF or C and a downgrade at guard is what I would go for.

  2. Patrick says:

    team a gets: Dirk

    team b gets: Bledsoe

who wins the trade just based on individual output for rest of the season?

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Patrick: I am shocked at how high of a level Dirk is playing at but it’s the same he’s always played. In any close call I like this I almost always take the player that is 10 years younger. But it was Bledsoe missing games earlier this year not Dirk. I’m surprised I’m going to say this but assuming I don’t need Bledsoes extra assists then I’m taking Dirk. A case could easily be made for either based on team needs though.

      • Patrick says:
        (link)

@Slim: for sure. very useful analysis and thanks for your opinion. i have dirk. so heres my situation: my SF position is screwed at the moment as i only have illyasova and tobias harris. i can slip harden into the SF spot but my only other SG is wilson chandler. chandler is starting to turn it on so maybe i don’t have a problem anymore. heres my team

weekly h2h, only one player per position + 2 util

        harden
        vucevic
        dirk
        lillard
        illyasova
        teague
        tobias harris
        jrue holiday
        spencer hawes
        wilson chandler

given my players, in this format, my starting 7 would either have to include: illyasova, tobias harris, or wilson chandler in the SG/SF spots. was hoping illyasova would easily take that spot but its not looking that way. should I trade for an SG or SF? or do you think one of those three are going to turn it on and keep it on?

  3. Shaft says:
    (link)

With the devastating (for my team) news out of LA about Steve Blake today, is there any reason he should stay on my roster? I really needed those assists from someone with SG eligibility. Both Jordan Crawford and Brandon Knight are available. Crawford has been playing lights out, but with rando’s return looming, am i better off with Knight ROS? Or take crawford now and drop him for blake when he’s back in 6 weeks? 10 team. 8 cat h2h league. What would you do Slim?

    • Shaft says:
      (link)

@Shaft: Sorry, meant Rondo*. Also, its a weekly league. Thanks!

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Shaft: Yeah it’s unfortunate but for a 10 team league probably not too devastating. Rondo is still a ways away and with the visit to Dr. Freeze pushed back twice now I’m worried we may not see Rondo for a while. If it’s assists you seek Crawford is your guy. But I’m not assuming Blake will be back in 6 weeks. ROS Knight is a much safer play and the way I would go. BTW in the last 2 weeks Crawford has faced BKN, NYK, DEN, MIL twice.

      • Shaft says:
        (link)

@Slim: Thanks, Slim! Maybe it’s just my distrust of Larry Drew or knight’s 38% FG%, but im worried Knight is destined for mediocrity. What’s so different this time vs the past two yrs in detroit? I want to like knight, I really do. I swear.

To your last point, i get that playing those teams is like being on steroids.. but that’s the beauty of being in the Atlantic Division (and the Eastern conference in general) right, haha? Get to play those suckers all year.

        • Slim

          Slim says:
          (link)

@Shaft: Yeah I know. I think we talked about Crawford before this year in a similar way to how we talk about Knight now. No one knows who is going to develop and who isn’t. Darko was after all drafted ahead of Carmelo, Bosh, and Wade. The good thing about the gamble though is when your right it’s fun to watch.

Yep that division is a terrible. Just saying there’s a good chance we are getting some inflated numbers. Crawford has been a great post hype sleeper. I think I’m allowed to use that term in fantasy basketball… But he still can’t be trusted to be a helpful fantasy playoff player and that’s pretty important to me. That’s really why Knight is the safe play.

Normally I would say in a 10 team league just ride the hot player but I feel a little differently about PGs. Even in a 10 teamer you usually can’t just add a 5-6 assist per game guy.

          • Shaft says:
            (link)

@Slim: ahhh. im torn. i usually avoid taking replacement players who have an expiration date. My other guards are conley, kemba, korver and lin. So im not completely desperate and I like having a guy who can dish out some nice assists that i can throw in the lineup depending on my matchup (which is why I was loving having Blake).

That said, i think i might roll the dice on crawford, knowing that he’s not a permanent solution. Maybe try and trade for a better SG in the meantime and just keep an eye out on knight to show me something. I might change my mind in a few minutes, so who knows. Either way, you’re the man Slim!

  4. Jake Van Zuiden says:
    (link)

Really pushing hard to get Deron Williams and/or Drummond. My roster is Wall, Westbrook, Rubio, Burke, Thompson, Iguodala, Brewer, Love, Cousins, BLopez, Ibaka, Gortar, Valanciunas, T Jones
His roster is Williams, Hill, Foye, Batum, Matthews, Henderson, Ginobli, Barnes, Thad Young, ZBo, Pau, RLopez, Drummond, and Sullinger

Can you please give me a few offers I could send him for either one or packaging them together would be great. Thanks!

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Jake Van Zuiden: Well… I’ve got Wall, Westbrook, and Rubio ahead of Deron. Love, Ibaka, Cousins all ahead of Drummond. If Deron and Drummond is what you want I would offer either a better PG and worse PF/C or better PF/C and worse PG. For example Burke+Ibaka if you wanted more PG action or Gortat+Rubio if you wanted more PF/C type stats. My advice would be to stick with what you have. Derons ankles are worth avoiding and Drummonds FTs are team altering.

      • Jake Van Zuiden says:
        (link)

@Slim: Well I probably should’ve mentioned that in my league there’s not ft %. Instead there’s FTM. There’s also an OREB, DREB, and DD category. My bad for not including that. Does this change your view on Drummond or no?

        • Slim

          Slim says:
          (link)

@Jake Van Zuiden: Yeah that puts him well above Ibaka. I would start by gaging his interest and trying to figure out how he values Drummond. Maybe try a Brook Lopez + Brewer feeler. I think the most I would pay is probably Ibaka + Iggy for Drummond + Matthews.

  5. matt says:

Question, would you trade hawes, thad young, evan turner for faried, stucky, and carmelo. Team wins is a category also and I want to unload my Philly guys thanks

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@matt: You would be getting the best player in Melo but not like you’d get too many more wins. ohhhh New York Knicks Slam! Faried’s minutes are wonky which makes absolutely no sense. Stuckey is a borderline option in 12 team leagues. I think you can probably get more if you piece those 3 out separately. That category seems very match-up dependent and who knows what could happen with a trade.

      • matt says:
        (link)

@Slim: I understand but I have jru, ibaka, ryan anderson, henson, eric gordon, marc gasol, oj, kobe then add those 3 guys. I was looking at it from a get a 1st round pick for 2 5th or 6 th rd guys and a waiver pickup. Cuz I got hawes off waivers. I know its prob one guy too much how about trading thad & turner for melo if he’d do that would you pull it? Im 18 gms in 1st place also.

        • Slim

          Slim says:
          (link)

@matt: Just because Hawes was free doesn’t change his value one bit for me. Pretty impressive to be up so many games with so many players having been injured. Yeah I’d try just Thad-Turner for Melo and see what happens.

          • matt says:
            (link)

@Slim: what I was thinking thanks. Ive used 7 claims every week that’s why im ahead. Lol

  6. Joe says:
    (link)

I already asked JB, but was hoping to get a second opinion. Would you please rank ROS (9-cat): OJ Mayo, Jason Smith, Reggie Jackson, Martell Webster, Tobias Harris, Danny Green, Alec Burks? Thanks!

    • matt says:
      (link)

@Joe: that’s nearly impossible to predict right now in my opinion.Someone’s may differ

      • Joe says:
        (link)

@matt: I’d actually remove Jackson and Green from that list, don’t see myself dropping them. Need to pick 2 out of Mayo, Smith, Webster, Harris, and Burks…

        • matt says:
          (link)

@Joe: Prob Mayo,Harris,Burks, webster, then smith..those would be my picks in that order.

          • Joe says:
            (link)

@matt: Put in a waiver claim for Harris, dropping Smith. Will find out in the next hour if I get him. Someone else picked up Burks in the last couple of hours. I was planning on picking up Webster but not sure anymore. I didn’t realize how few minutes Webster was getting with both Ariza and Beal healthy (as in, before Nov. 13ish)….

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Joe: Yea it’s tough to rank guys who are so drastically different. Top 4 in no particular order… Reggie Jackson has been very consistent. Jason Smith was playing fine with the Unibrow so I think he’ll be fine on Davis’ return. Tobias Harris is worth the gamble since they say he’s going to attempt to play again soon. The last spot… I’m done with Danny Green. I’d go OJ Mayo.

  7. John says:
    (link)

Hi. I’m currently ranked no.1 on my 9 CAT Roto league. I’m currently last in FG% and 2nd to the last in Turnovers. But as soon as Marc Gasol and Anthony Davis get back, I’ll be on track in FG% hopefully. When do you think Marc Gasol will get back? Thanks.

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@John: My best guess… Middle of January. Knee injuries for bigs can take a while. Marc is a tough guy so I think he’s going to try to play even at less than 100%.

  8. John says:
    (link)

What do you think of Glen Davis for Hawes trade? Which side wins? Hawes’ shooting is cooling off while Davis will now have Vucevic and Tobias Harris back soon. I heard that Rockets is asking for Hawes for Asik. I doubt Hawes will continue his double double attacks in Houston. I still got Ilyasova and Oladipo in my bench. Should I drop either of them for Asik (moving soon), Paul Pierce, Henderson, Knight, Valanciunas, George Hill, Nelson or Tobias Harris. I currently rank no. 1 and I’m just looking for backup. Thanks.

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@John: I would take Hawes in a heartbeat. Davis is playing decent in real life but he is a bad fantasy player. Do Not drop Oladipo. He’s only getting better. Tobias is worth the risk since he is saying he will try to play today. Ilyasova is a mess so I don’t have a problem dropping him to see how Tobias does. Some pretty nice options available. Knight and Jonas are the next two I would try to fit on my team.

  9. Jon says:
    (link)

    Team A gets Bledsoe
    Team B gets Favors
just considering overall value, who wins?
I’m pretty scared of Bledsoe’s injury, and favors been pretty consistent with percentages, even though he’s not blocking much shots…
and with Bledsoe’s style of play.. I’m pretty concerned that he might injure himself again (hopefully not)… what are your thoughts? whould you trade away Favors for Bledsoe?

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Jon: Probably more need based than just best player. Favors is dealing with a bad back so I don’t consider him much safer. If I felt good about my other bigs and I needed another PG I would have no problem with that trade. Favors FT% is a pretty big negative too.

  10. jason says:

In a 10 team H2H league with 3 bench spots and 13 starters with these categories: FGA, FGM, FTM, FT%, 3PTM, PTS, REB, AST, ST, BLK, TO
My team: John Wall, Eric Bledsoe, O.J. Mayo, Trey Burke, Victor Oladipo, James Harden, Paul Millsap, Serge Ibaka, Channing Frye, Jonas Valanciunas, Brook Lopez, Markieff Morris, George Hill, Dirk Nowitzki, Michael Carter-Williams, Jimmy Butler

On Waiver Wire: Amare Stoudemire, Tobias Harris, Tyson Chandler, Larry Sanders, Paul Pierce

Who should I add and drop?

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@jason: Amar’e, Tyson, Pierce are passes. I would try Tobias for Markieff. The reward outweighs the risk. George Hill doesn’t feel necessary considering all the assist guys you have. I wouldn’t mind giving Sanders a shot for him. You can probably wait till we hear some good news though.

  11. Sio says:
    (link)

who would you rather have ROS vucevic or ibaka? i’m thinking ibaka but that’s just gut feeling really.

    • matt says:
      (link)

@Sio: depends on needs but I rather have Ibaka. Hes late 1st rd value

    • Slim

      Slim says:

@Sio: Ibaka and it’s not all that close to me.

  12. Chasles says:

I need more scoring on my team
    i have some injured players
    here is my roster
jennings, tony allen, kemba walker, iggy, batum, love, mike plumlee, henson, pekovic, alec burks, kosta koufas, and asik
I m think about trading kema or koufas for a scoring guard
    what are your thoughts?

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Chasles: Losing Koufos is fine. I don’t like the idea of losing Kemba. Your already short PGs. Asik can go too. I imagine your waiting for him to be traded. Ok. Once Allen or Iggy gets back those are the 2 I would look to move for scoring.

  13. Bobby says:
    (link)

Worth dropping H. Barnes or Hickson to get Tobias?? I know Iggy will be back soon to punt Barnes to the bench. Smooth move or wait to see if the Kankles hold up?? Thanks slim!

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Bobby: Tobias is worth the gamble. Tough to drop either though. I don’t see enough minutes available for Barnes to get over 30 when Iggy returns and I would make that move. However Hickson is really boring to own and Barnes has way more upside. If your heavy PF/Cs then Hickson is expendable. If this league is shallow enough you can probably afford to take a wait and see approach with Tobias.

  14. John says:
    (link)

Glen Davis or Jonas V? I’m just looking for bench guy I can play whenver I needed.

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@John: I’d take Jonas. I never though Big Babys game was all that fantasy friendly and JV has seen an uptick in production and playing time since Rudy Gay was shipped out. I like JV to continue to improve.

  15. Frank White says:
    (link)

Sup Slim.. I was thinking about trying to trade OJ Mayo to get Jared Sullinger.. I need a bigger guy but do you think it’s fair or do you think I should hold Mayo through the hard times??

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Frank White: I don’t have a problem with that at all. OJ Mayo looks lost and he’s replaceable on the wire. cough… Terrence Ross …cough. Sullinger adding 3’s to his game makes him a solid play. Just know your not going to be gaining any blocks. So if that’s what you need you should look elsewhere.
